Featured Indie Artist: Singer-Songwriter, Bailey Elora
Interview by The Heat Seekers
The Heat Seekers: Tell us a little bit about yourself?
Bailey Elora: My name is Bailey Elora and I’m a singer-songwriter from Denver, Colorado. My favorite food is potatoes, in any form, but mainly mashed. I am 21 and still only have my learners permit, because driving scares me for no realistic reason. I absolutely detest talking about myself (which is VERY ironic, because I’m a performer so it’s kinda the whole job, and I’m literally doing an interview about myself at this very moment???). I am also an avid coffee/tea drinker with a collection of 30+ mugs.
THS: How long have you been a performing artist?
BE: It’s honestly been so long that I can’t remember, but I think I’d say around 7 years.
THS: What made you decide to be serious about music?
BE: I’ve always been serious about music, if I were to say otherwise would feel like an insult to myself and all the effort and love I put into it. I think it’s better to ask when I decided to make it a career, which would be when I was around 16. I saw tons of performers and artists out there doing music for a living and thought that’s an option??? I can do that as a JOB??? Because genuinely the idea never occurred to me until that point, I didn’t realize that you could have a job that wasn’t your typical 9 to 5 and once I did… I think that’s when everything changed for me.
THS: Which people have had the most influence on your music career and why?
BE: First off, my dad because he’s the “man behind the curtain”, so to speak. He’s my driver, my manager, and soooooo many other things… Basically he does everything. He’s also my biggest supporter (except when he has opinions on my music… I RESPECTFULLY ignore those).
The “second” would probably be, all the people that have doubted me and my art, because I truly think you are nothing without your haters pushing you forward.
THS: What would you say is the #1 key to success in the music industry?
BE: THICK SKIN!
You HAVE to be able to use the insane amount of metaphorical bricks thrown at you to build the stairs you use to climb higher or you’ll never evolve into a bigger and better artist. Mean 10 words and negativity will always follow you, you just have to learn how to work with them.
THS: What advice can you give other individuals who want to follow in your footsteps?
BE: Work hard, always, but allow yourself to enjoy it. Sure, it’s important to care about what you do and to not slack off if you want to get anywhere with it, but it’s important to take care of yourself and your mental health as well. I’ll be honest, I’m not always the best at that, but I continue to try to be because I know I’ll be a better artist (and person) if I take care of myself.
THS: What does a typical day in your week look like?
BE: I would love to say, it’s all music all the time, but the reality is that I have a day job. I get up, normally before the sun, work 8 hours and come home. Then I take a shower, a nap and then the craziness starts. Most nights I have SOMETHING going on. Band practices, writing sessions, important emails (and sometimes interviews like this one). I also have non-music things like Chiropractor visits, grocery shopping, meal prepping, hanging out with friends, concerts… etc. Obviously, I’m a little short on down time, but when you really enjoy what you do, it’s not so bad.
THS: What keeps you going when things get tough in the business?
BE: I’m fueled by Boba and my innate need to prove people wrong. I love showing how willing I am to work for what I want and that I won’t cower to a rough situation…but I’m also human, so that’s not always how it goes down.
Sometimes, I simply have to take a break. I buy a Boba and spend some time unwinding, just let myself be free for a little bit. One of my favorite quotes is, “Just because they can carry the load, doesn’t mean it’s not heavy” and I think that’s really important to remember.
THS: What’s next for you? New music?
BE: My band and I are continuously writing music, so we always have something new. We released our single “DRUNK RN” ft. BROTH3R in September, which we absolutely love. Most recently though, we finished recording a new song at The Spot Studios (in Evergreen, CO) and it’s got this sort of more gentle sound that I think everyone will really like. There’s no release date yet, but It will probably be out some time in early 2022.

THS: What’s better, singing karaoke or singing in the shower? And Why?
BE: While I do LOVE a good karaoke session, I’m more of a shower singing girl because it’s one of the best places to write and try out new music…
I can also cry along to All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version) without ANY JUDGMENT, so there’s that.
THS: If you could open for any artist or band, who would you choose? And why?
BE: Hands down, Halsey! Because I love her.
THS: What’s your all time favorite song lyric?
BE: You Make Me Smile by Blue October, “My words, they pour Like children to the playground Children to the playground”
THS: Is there anything else you’d like us to know about you?
BE: Hmmm… well I’m a Type One Diabetic, not sure if that’s very interesting, but now you know!
