PERSIMMON FESTIVAL Mitchell, Indiana

September 21st—28th, 2019

Main Street Activities are September 23rd thru the 28th The theme for 2019:

“Mitchell Around The World”

Andy Mullen and Suzanne Patton

On behalf of the Greater Mitchell Chamber of Commerce, it is my sincere pleasure to welcome you to the 73nd Annual Persimmon Festival. The organization of the festival is carried out by volunteers. It is one of very few week-long festivals in the State of Indiana. For a small community like Mitchell, many people are willing to help with whatever is needed. I invite you to take extra time to enjoy Mitchell’s historic downtown district, which is filled with unique businesses, antique shops, restaurants, and the restored Mitchell Opera House. Please visit the many local businesses that continuously support the community as well as the festival. You will see many as sponsors in this book as well as throughout the week at different events. My theme for this year is “Mitchell Around The World”. Our small community has reached to countries all over the world, making a difference, and visitors from across the globe have made Mitchell their home, creating a diverse community unlike any other. Our grand marshall of the 73nd parade is Dan Bortner with the Department of Natural Resources. Dan has worked tirelessly to help promote Spring Mall State Park, and help bring new visitors to our community. I wanted to thank the countless volunteers who make this week possible, the strength of our community truly is our people! Andy Mullen, General Chairman of the 73rd Annual Persimmon Festival

Y CHERR TRY A IDER C HAKE! MILKS

Andy Mullen is serving as General Chairman for the Persimmon Festival. He made Mitchell his home in 2005 after marrying the former Amber Little. He is currently the director of sales at Spring Mill Inn. Andy is a 1991 recipient of Sagamore of the Wabash Award. He is also an honorary Indiana State Speaker of the House for the state of Indiana, honorary Indiana State Fire Marshal, severe weather enthusiast and self-proclaimed biggest Cubs fan in Lawrence County. Andy has been married to his wife Amber for more than 14 years. It was his wife’s love of the festival that has brought him here today. Suzanne (Carnell) Patton is serving as second co-chair for the Persimmon Festival. Born in Livonia, Mich., she migrated to Mitchell in 1976 when her parents opened the Ben Franklin store. She became a Hoosier upon graduating from Indiana University. Suzanne and her husband Marvin currently oversee operations at the local Ben Franklin/ Ace Hardware store. She proudly serves as a trustee for the Mitchell Public Library, is a member of Tri Kappa and attends the Free Methodist Church. She is a past recipient of the Lawrence County Walk of Excellence awarded for women in business. She is the 2017 Greater Mitchell Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year. Suzanne enjoys participating in local 4-H activities, is a member of the Spring Mill Stitchers and a volunteer at the Mitchell Opera House. Suzanne and Marvin have always treasured festival moments with their two children and look forward to making new festival memories with their grandchildren.

GRAND PARADE

Saturday, September 28th at 2:00p.m.

This year is the 73rd Annual Persimmon Festival with the theme

“Mitchell Around The World”. The Festival Committee began working on the 2019 Festival before the end of last year’s festival to bring another September gathering full of activities for all ages to enjoy with family and friends. The committee and the community take pride in the Grand Parade as the busy week is wrapping up. On Sept. 28th, The Parade Chairperson Vicky Schlegel invites all to come out for the annual Persimmon Festival “Grand Parade”. Vicky has been working on many new confirmed entries along with several of the regulars such as emergency equipment, horse riders, tractor collections, cars, and expect to have a variety of high school bands. There will be the “Circle City Sidewalk Stompers Clown Band” that will perform during the parade and will provide another performance at the conclusion of the parade at the Main Stage. There will be walking characters too greet and put smiles on the faces of children and adults alike. See the many beautifully prepared floats to fill the streets and add a variety to our parade. We welcome all to come out and enjoy this year’s Persimmon Festival Parade. Vicky Schlegel has entry invitations out and for contacts can fill out Entry Forms on line at www.persimmonfestival.org, or email: mitchellpersimmonfestival@gmail.com and 812-797-7984 for further information.

*THE PARADE IS HELD RAIN OR SHINE*
