On this Saturday, Sept. 18, the H Street Corridor hosted the 2010 H Street NE Festival. Crowds of people came out to enjoy live music, happy hour specials, vendors and food. This years event was larger than ever as the area welcomed new faces, restaurants and performers. Mikael LaRoche, a resident of the area and Howard University student, has been attending the event since he moved to the area in January 2007. “I live on 12th Street NE and this area is changing and becoming more diverse. When I first came it was primarily African American, now it’s much more colorful,” said LaRoche. “This year’s festival had a lot more vendors, more people. On lower H there was a rock and roll band and further down there was a caterer from Trinidad. You got a greater since of the diversity, it catered to the different colors and family types.” At the festival, Gallery Oonh displayed “Art Cars” along the center of H Street. The cars featured colorful dramatic elements like the red, white and blue mannequin arms protruding from the 80’s Chevy in “Take My Hand.”
