Ring the ship’s bell aboard a Victorian Sloop, swing through the hatches of a Cold War submarine and sit in the Captain’s chair on a Second World War Destroyer. Access to HMS OCELOT is by timed tour only. Wheelchair access is not possible for HMS OCELOT and is limited on HMS GANNET and HMS CAVALIER.* *Virtual tours are available.

Join retired Master Shipwright John North as he revisits the Dockyard of his youth and encourages his young grandson to follow in his footsteps - but with the young boy’s head full of Lord Nelson and the mighty VICTORY what will he do? Hearts of Oak uses more than 20 years of research and understanding to retell the story of the construction of wooden-hulled sail-powered warships at Chatham Dockyard.


Experience The Dockyard story through the Industrial Revolution and two World Wars Be inspired by the innovation and bravery of those who worked in the Dockyard and served with the Chatham Port Division and discover their contribution to the Royal Navy.

An architectural delight and BIG space for BIG things Take a trip up to the mezzanine floor of No.3 Slip and marvel at the wooden roof, then unearth an incredible collection of BIG objects on the ground floor including D-Day locomotive ‘Overlord’ and Midget Submarine XE8. The crash of waves and cry of gulls welcome you to the UK’s largest collection of RNLI Historic Lifeboats Discover over one hundred years of RNLI and Lifeboat history. A partnership with the RNLI Heritage Trust.

Built in 1704, Commissioner’s House is the oldest naval building to survive intact in Britain Visitor access to Commissioner’s House is limited to our special event days but access to Commissioner’s Garden is possible on almost all other days. ACCESS: The Dockyard is a large historical and industrial site which is generally accessible, but steps, slopes and uneven surfaces do exist. Due to the construction of the Historic Warships, with steps, ladders and hatches, access by those with mobility difficulties is not possible to all areas, ‘virtual tours’ of the vessels are available.
