“SURPRISE!” Aha! I was overwhelmed from the voices of friends and family, when I stepped onto the 120 foot yacht at Newport Beach Dock. Dressed to impress in my spiffy tux, I thought I was going out for an evening with my lovely wife. Little did I know, she’d gathered a crew from all over the world, to celebrate my 50th birthday. How Deb managed to return to work at TheHomeMag, arrange a birthday video with greetings from across the country, create this cool James Bond 007 themed party (where everyone played a part in keeping it secret); AND keep the household running -- I really don’t know. But, it was amazing and I was really surprised. It is a memory I will cherish forever with the wonder of aha! This was a big “Aha moment” that clearly stated I was turning 50, and in this moment, I realized that crossing into this space didn’t mean I was getting “old” but that I was moving over the threshold into the next phase of “aha moments” awaiting me. A starch realization that half a century of learning got me here and would only compliment the next half century of new aha moments awaiting me. Knowing that I like to live each day as more extraordinary than the last, I reflected on what helped me get this far and realized it was the moments of wonderment that helped me live my best life. Good health brings you abundant energy to travel, visit family, take walks, enjoy sunsets, dive into the oceans, swim the sea and ski the slopes. 3. Relationships keep you alive. Have a best friend and if that best friend is your lover, partner or wife – that’s even better! I remember telling Debbie that I’ve always been lucky, but I believe my best luck was in finding her. It gave me total satisfaction and a lifetime love affair. 4. Connecting is what grounds you. Being a parent has changed my life forever with the most challenging

yet rewarding experience. I connect with my daughter Tayla daily on a heart to heart level and learn far more than what I could teach her. This connection is 100% attention with no phones, no television and no distractions. Find your “connect” and spend at least 5 minutes a day interacting with them. It keeps you grounded and connected. 5. Keep trying new things. New experiences make life’s journey exciting. Looking back I love remembering the good times, but even the difficult times have brought me understanding and learning to move forward. Plan to take yourself forward into something new on a regular basis. 6. Upgrade your life constantly. Plan your future with higher expectations. Create experiences that are worth the time and enjoyable. Stay in a better hotel, get a suite, stay longer than anticipated. It does not have to cost a fortune, but make your life remarkable with an upgrade whenever you can. 7. Give from your heart. Zig Ziglar teaches, you will get all you want in life if you help enough people get what they want. I love inspiring people to live their best life. Nothing beats that. But you have a gift too. Find it, use it and share it. See how it boomerangs back to you.
