Just recently, Hurricane Irma totally wreaked destruction and havoc on my beloved BVI (British Virgin Islands). Road Town, the largest town on Tortola, is in ruins; shops looted; people desperate; thousands of yachts smashed to bits.

During one of the big hurricanes years ago, I was down island dropping off a charter, and I missed the opportunity to book dock space during the approaching hurricane. By the time I got back up to BVI, not a single slip was available. With the help of a whole bunch of sailors, we dug a canal from the sea into Parakeet Bay and all helped get 6 catamarans into the mangroves in the nick of time. The handful of us unfortunate souls had to buckle down in Parakeet Bay (scary stuff living in that water) for the onslaught. The bunch of us battled right the way through the hurricane pulling drifting boats off our yachts, but we managed to survive, exhausted, but in one piece with our yachts still intact. With Irma, I would not have been so lucky.

Fortunately, they did not suffer too much damage, but I did observe many friends agonizing over the decision to stay and ride out the storm or leave for safer territory. hills. They tried to get out at the last moment only to be hit with 8-hour traffic delays, and ended up being stuck in the car with their pets for the entire duration of the storm. INDECISION! Years ago, someone gave me a little black book and said read this. “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. Up until then, my Dad had always shown us that hard work was the only way to earn money, and even then getting rich was no guarantee. I remember the part in the book relating to salespeople and their struggle with indecisive prospects saying, “I need to think it over.”

Going back to when my wife called me about moving to the BVI to charter a yacht; we knew immediately that we had to take up this opportunity.

There was no hesitation. And once we had decided, the universe conspired to make the transition an easy one. All of our training and courses necessary for us to take the job fell into place like clockwork. It was like it was meant to be.

But when Sean called about starting a home improvement magazine, we knew instantly that that was our next step. No indecision there. Within a week, we flew to Florida to start a

new life creating TheHomeMag brand. We started by just getting in front of home improvement business owners, explaining this new concept, (all home improvement adverts, no editorial) and selling advertising that we knew would blow their businesses out of the park with the leads it would generate. And we were constantly rejected by people that needed to think it over. TheHomeMag has been going strong for 15 years now, and there are 49 branches across the country.

You know what I have observed? The business owners that look you in the eye and decisively say, “Yes, I think this could work!” For some reason, that’s what happens.

Decisive decisions tell the universe you believe in a better future. In my opinion, it always appears to work that way. The ones that are half-hearted and second guess their decisions get a half-hearted response. In life, whatever decision you make, once you say “Yes!” Make sure you go all out to make it work. Don’t second guess yourself. Be fully committed. Life always favors the brave!
