Why Teamwork Makes Teams Work We have all seen the cheesy motivational posters on teamwork and team building. The response is usually universal….”it is not applicable to me and my team.” However, I respectfully disagree. I believe that all the things those posters say do apply, and I am putting them to the test.

This month, I left it up to my team to completely close and put together our June issue. I went to the Bahamas for a week to sport fish with our printers and other TheHomeMag owners. It was so good to be back in the Caribbean after so long. (As a quick reminder, my wife and I ran a charter boat in the British Virgin Islands for five years before starting TheHomeMag.) From there, we went to France for the French Open. What an amazing experience. We were able to get up close and personal with Novak Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka. From

there, we went to the South of France to relax in the sun for a few days, and we then headed even further South to Ibiza for three days. What happens in Ibiza stays in Ibiza. Then, back up North to the Champagne region of France to sample the local product, get one last gorge of bread and cheese, and then Au Revoir France.

This entire trip was possible because of the team I have. When I leave the office, things actually improve because my team wants to work harder to prove to me that they are in it to win it. Last year, we broke sales records when I was gone, and the same thing happened again this year.

My sister and my publisher teamed up to watch my daughter while we were gone. What a blessing to have their efforts working together towards one collaborative goal. Because of the

trust I have in my team, I was actually able to relax the entire trip. Life is better with a team. “None of us is as smart as all of us.” --Ken Blanchard I continue to learn so much from my team and truly believe that their efforts and wisdom have made me a better person. We spend a lot of time developing, coaching and mentoring our team. After trips like this, it brings a smile to my face to see this team working out.
