Providing kids with a well-rounded meal or snack can be overwhelming. Then, trying to make it affordable and appealing to your little, is it even possible?! Good news, it is, and the fit team is here to help! Check out our top tips to simplify this common challenge.

Round It Out

• Keep the USDA MyPlate in mind when building a plate. This is a great visual to reference when making choices.

- Make your grains whole-grain.

- Vary the color of your fruits and vegetables for different vitamins.

• Pair carbohydrates with proteins to make them more filling.

- Scrambled eggs and whole-grain toast

- Whole-grain crackers and cheese slices

- Pasta and canned tuna

- Rice and chicken

• Dairy can be added in many ways!

- Try cheese, yogurt, or milk to add a quick dose of dairy.

• Choose water or milk for your drink.

- Hydration is just as important as the foods you choose. Milk and water provide the most nutrition and hydration to kids’ bodies and brains.

KEEP IT COST-EFFECTIVE

• Don’t be afraid to buy off-brand. The foods are usually the same in taste and nutrition levels.

• Choose “in-season”, frozen, or canned produce.

- If possible, pick fruits canned in 100% fruit juice.

• Buy value packs and freeze the leftovers.
