What is Wellness to You?

fresh perspectives always matter

What do you think wellness is about? I’d love to hear your thoughts because I felt a little conflicted, or rather... I paused to ponder whether wellness is more about finding and doing what’s best for you, or primarily doing what’s best for others. It’s a great question, and does reflect a mental health aspect.

Focus on You

It could be argued that similarly to a flying situation, the airlines advise that in case of an emergency, an individual put their own oxygen mask on first, before attempting to help anyone else, even their own child. But, doesn’t that feel like a comical idea considering as a parent your instincts are to prioritize your kids? However, it’s pretty much common sense that we will not be sufficiently able to take care of any children, if we don’t first take care of ourselves.

SXSW Journey

But (and here’s the big but)... what about being purpose driven and living to take care of others? I personally believe both perspectives are valid and accurate, and feel majorly inspired by these kinds of deep conversations that were being had at SXSW. It’s honestly been a while since meeting quality people felt so easy, and what a refreshing traveling experience. It was clearly a meeting of the curious, the creative, and world changing entrepreneurs; all taking in the showcase of art and commerce, flowing in an energy of utmost innovation.

Fresh Perspectives

This conference reminded me what travel and conferences are all about. Seeing a city like Austin, being around fresh ideas and connecting with such a diverse group of individuals definitely reminded that a big part of wellness is keeping your curiosity high, and channels for inspiration open. Travel is a sure way of achieving this element of well-

ness, and South by Southwest in Austin, Texas delivered in multiple ways. I’m going to briefly share what the trip highlights were for me and would love any future recommendations sharing your experiences around Austin, TX travel.

The Austin Proper

Hotel: Well designed hotel that attracts a great crowd; food was yummy and the service was overall excellent. Food: Aside from The Peacock Restaurant I visited at the hotel for breakfast and cocktails, I ventured to Flower Child, The Well, and La Condesa for food. Everything I had was amazing and I’d highly recommend each for casual meetings, networking and grabbing a bite while you’re in the area. Event networking: SXSW had the most incredible people. My Creative Studio Tiny Elephant, and I will definitely have new friendships that we’ll keep in touch with, as well as new business opportunities that became available just from being interested and open to new conversations. Fun: Y’all... Texas is fun and Austin did not underperform. Between the live music events and complimentary event massages at Austin Deep, there was never a dull moment we had on this trip. The Music Festival was highly impressive and the energy among attendees felt electric. Celebrating it’s return after a two year hiatus, I’m happy to report SXSW is back with a fresh battery to rejuvenate the mentally hungry and those seeking creative stimulation. If that is you, I challenge you, (and it makes sense to think about), in your own wellness journey, what inspires you to be your best self? Or where do you go to reset or get strategic to think outside of the box? When have you last tried something new to keep you feeling excited? If anything I’ve said resonates, I highly recommend attending SXSW next year, if you have the opportunity.

Enjoy Life

Additionally, as Spring and Summer approach, I’m feeling the continued vibe to enjoy some of the best weather in Texas, and stay mentally aligned via other Texas based events like Fiesta in San Antonio! Keep an eye out on The Hotel Guide’s social media for more fun updates and travel tips.
