Nakama Anime Society gathers to watch, praise anime NAS tackles anime together! Nakama Anime Society, also known as anime club, is a club organization with the purpose of bringing SHSU students together. NAS establishes a friendly, fun community for fans of Japanese animation, provide a creative outlet for many and foster an appreciation for the Japanese pop culture. Nakama translates to a close-knit of friends who are basically family. New friends, friendly and supportive officers and laughter await new prospect members interested in joining Nakama Anime Society. Additionally, special events are
announced to members each year. Those interested can join through OrgLink by typing our organization’s name in the search bar, and submitting a membership request which will be approved in less than five minutes. The club meets every Wednesday at 6:30pm in room 304 of the Lowman Student Center. Questions can be directed to the President of Nakama Anime Society in person or via email, which can be located under the organization’s name through OrgLink. At every meeting, members and officers discuss
and promote anime shows that have been voted, previewed or watched. Currently, members and officers of NAS are viewing and discussing the animation, story and traditions behind each of the four anime shows that have been voted for this semester. NAS will help those who are new to Sam Houston State University feel right at home. Interested? We invite you to come to one of our meetings, make new friends, create memories with those who share a common interest and learn more about the Japanese culture and traditions. Phi Chi Theta keeps it professional at SHSU Phi Chi Theta is one of the largest co-ed professional business fraternities in the United States. Phi Chi Theta was founded as a women's business organization on June 16, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois. Today, Phi Chi Theta comprises 37 collegiate and alumni chapters across the United States. Originally founded almost a hundred years ago, and has been on Sam Houston campus for over fifty years, Phi Chi Theta prides itself on the long-lasting traditions of our members. Our goals are reflected in our stated purpose: “To promote the cause of higher business education and training for all individuals; to foster high ideals for everyone pursuing a career in business; to encourage fraternity cooperation among people preparing for such careers, and to stimulate the spirit of sacrifice and unselfish devotion to the attainment of
such ends.” Phi Chi Theta requires its members maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5, have a declared major in a business or economics related field and be able to attend every Wednesday meeting. Members of Phi Chi Theta are honest and loyal, strive to high standards, and are in constant pursuit of self-improvement. Phi Chi Theta believes that people who hold these values not only improve their own lives but the world around them as well. Bearkats lift for glory, looking for members The Sam Houston State powerlifting team is back and ready to take the platform. After a great finish at Collegiate Nationals last year in San Antonio, a total of six lifters also took home medals and scholarships as well. The team is under the coaching and leadership of greatly talented coaches Michael Hafenbrack, and Ashlee Hafenbrack. After a long three months of offseason workouts and the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, the “Badnews� Bearkats can finally start their season in its newly renovated weight room. SHSU Powerlifting was
established in 2004, and they have been in the old HKC weight room ever since. With the help of SHSU Rec Sports and Sorinex, the Bearkats are now able to have a completely new set up consisting of nine new squat racks, and nine new benches. With all of this new equipment the team can now get their workouts done a lot faster and still have time to work on their academics. This season the Bearkats will have a total of five competitions. The first one being the Muscle Beach Classic in October. Following, the Longhorn Open in November, and at
the end of the semester the Kats will travel to San Antonio and compete in the Collegiate Cup. In the Spring, the team will help the last of its members qualify for the 2018 Collegiate Nationals, which will take place at the Hall of Champions in College Station at the campus of Texas A&M University. Project Sunshine provides smiles to children in need Project Sunshine is a national, non-profit organization. The SHSU chapter has been bringing sunshine to children in need in the Huntsville area since 2005. The student-run organization works year-round to provide free recreational and social programs to families who have children living with a wide range of disabilities, along with their siblings. Student volunteers devote their time, energy, talents and hearts to improve the lives of the children and families they serve. In order to support these families and restore a needed sense of normalcy despite any diagnosis, the organization hosts activities such as park days, parades, movie nights, festivals,
field trips, and so much more. These events are fun-filled for the children, their siblings, their caretakers, and the student volunteers. In everything they do, the organization prides itself on its ability to always uphold their motto of “bringing sunshine to a cloudy day.� If you or someone you know may be interested in Project Sunshine, contact President Amanda Simmons at aks044@shsu.edu.

Lambda alpha Epsilon is a co-ed academic criminal justice association. If you are interest in a future career in law enforcement, forensics, victim services, or any aspect of criminal justice, this is the organization for you. We offer hands on experience for every position in the criminal justice system such as field tactics, legal aspects, firearms, and forensics to ensure that you have the skills required for your future career. LAE also offers numerous group
activities such as weekly socials, prison tours, physical training, and multiple community service opportunities to grow each of us as individuals and as a whole. So, if you are looking for a group of likeminded individuals who are working towards similar goals, stop by the LSC room 320 every Tuesday at 9:15 pm to start and check us out.
Secular Student Alliance helps expand perspectives Secular Student Alliance is a community of students from all world views looking to expand their perspectives, engage in healthy debate, and explore the opportunity that secularism
provides by protecting freedom of religion for all. We work to educate the campus and community on the separation of church and state, as well as advocate for it. We also provide a
community for members who are non-religious in which they can connect and discuss experiences together. Alongside secularism, Secular Student Alliance takes an interest in science, politics,
critical thinking and reasoning, community service, intersectional issues, and world news. Whatever your background, world view, or experiences may be, Secular Student Alliance has a place
