CA XOsoft and Arcserve 12.5 - Site to Datacenter backup data replication Summary: This document outlines a process for installing and configuring CA Arcserve 12.5 with data deduplication file store (DDD) option and XOsoft for site to datacenter replication. This document is to be used for sites that will not use tape media and is using CA Arcserve 12.5 or higher. This document assumes that the audience has the basic skills and knowledge of CA Arcserve 12.5. The creator of this document is in no way affiliated with Computer Associate (CA) and is not responsible for any adverse affects, performance issues, or downtime that may occur by performing the steps in this document. In other words - "Use at your own risk!" Layout:
Requirements: • CA Arcserve 12.5 or higher (baseline) • XOsoft 12.5 Engine • XOsoft 12.5 Control Service/Manager Note: All baseline installation files will be located on \\corfile1\dsl Naming Convention: The following naming convention must be followed. Arcserve's data deduplication folders (DD) folders will be named 3 digit site code + DD + # i.e. "LABDD1" Note: the name can NOT be more than 7 characters long. Arcserve's index deduplication folders (DDI) folders will be named 3 digit site code + DI + # i.e. "LABDI1" Note: the name can NOT be more than 7 characters long.
DD and DDI folders will be place in a main folder named the as server name i.e. "LABBUS01" Arcserve device group will be named like 3 digit + GRP + # i.e. "LABGRP1" XOsoft Engine Install:******** Site Only ******** 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11.
Double click the setup.exe Click "Install Components" Click "Install CA XOsoft Engine" Click "OK" to the language setup Click "Next" at the welcome screen Accept the license agreement then click Next Enter the user name and organization then click Next Choose the default installation path then click Next Use the "local system account" then click Next Click "Install" Click "Finish" when the installation is complete.
CA Arcserve 12.5 Deduplication Device Setup:******** Site Only ******** 1. Create the folder structure for the deduplication data. There should be a main folder on the root of the dedicated LUN or disk. Follow the naming convention specified above. 2. The main folder should consist of the data and index folders for the deduplication device. (Example 1) shown below is an example of how the folder structure should look. 3. Login to the Arcserve Manager 4. Click "Quick Start" --> "Administration" --> "More on Devices" --> "Device Configuration" 5. Select the "Deduplication Devices" option then click Next 6. Select the appropriate server then click Next 7. Click "Add" to add a deduplication device. 8. Enter the name, description 9. Enter or browse to the "data file location" that was created in step #2. 10. Enter or browse to the "index file location" that was created in step #2. 11. The above step should can be used in the datacenter setup but should only be done when necessary and removed afterwards. Note: If the setup is left in place while the ca tape engine service is running, it could lock and prevent replication of files that needs to replicated. This part is for the Datacenter installation and configuration. This section is only relavant to the datacenter and should only be done by the datacenter teams. Go to Services Manager and start the "Computer Browser" service Double click the setup.exe Click "Install Components" Click "Install CA XOsoft Control Service" Click "OK" to the language setup Click "OK" if required components are needed Click "Next" at the welcome screen Accept the license agreement then click Next Enter the user name and organization then click Next Choose the default installation path then click Next On the SSL configuration take the defaults and click Next Use the "local system account" then click Next On the control service role screen take the defaults and click Next Click "Install" Click "Finish" when the installation is complete.
