"Erin Hanson’s highly attuned perception of the world’s colors and her particular talent for sharing her vision through largescale oil landscapes executed in a dynamic style she describes as 'open impressionism' has earned her uncommon success." - The Artist Network
ERIN HANSON is a life-long painter, beginning her study of oils as a young child. Her passion for natural beauty is seen in her work as she transforms vistas familiar and rare into stunning interpretations of bold color, playful rhythms, and raw emotional impact
Her frequent forays into National Parks and other havens of nature include backpacking expeditions, rock climbing, and photo safaris. Hanson's unique painting style has become known as Open Impressionism, which is now taught in art schools around the world.
With thousands of collectors eagerly anticipating her work and millions of followers online, Hanson has become an iconic, driving force in the rebirth of contemporary impressionism, and she is recognized as a prolific, modern master.
Erin Hanson is the creator of the contemporary painting style "Open Impressionism," which is being taught in art schools and colleges around the world Open Impressionism is a blend of classic impressionism and modern expressionism, with a dash of plein air style
Hanson has spent 20 years developing the unique techniques of Open Impressionism, which involve minimal brush strokes and the impasto application of paint Unlike traditional oil painters, Hanson does not build up the painting layer by layer; instead, she lays her paint strokes side by side without overlapping and works to get each stroke "right the first time."
The clean brush strokes give a mosaic or stained-glass appearance to her paintings, while also conveying a sense of movement and spontaneity. She uses a limited palette of only five pigments to create vivid, un-muddied colors that ignite the imagination.
Open Impressionism continues the work of impressionists and postimpressionists like Monet and van Gogh. The purpose of each painting is to capture the fleeting and momentary light seen out of doors, especially during early dawn and sunset. Like other impressionist painters, Hanson's work appears more abstract when viewed up close and "goes into focus" when seen from a few feet away
Impressionist painter Erin Hanson invites you on a visual, coast-to-coast tour of the lush, colorful landscapes of America's diverse and fabulous wine country regions. (10 x 12 in)

First, we scan Erin's original oil painting using a state-of-the-art 3D Scanner, located in our dark room next door to Erin's studio. This allows us to create a detailed, topographical map of the painting that captures every ridge of every brush stroke -- so detailed it even captures the canvas texture.
Next, our SwissQ printer lays down 20 individual layers of UV-hardened ink, gradually building up the height of the brush strokes until the print has the same exact texture as the original painting. The color and varnish layers are then printed on top of the texture.

One of the hallmarks of an Erin Hanson painting is her expressive use of texture. Impasto has been used effectively by impressionist painters since the birth of the art form and takes years to master.
An Erin Hanson original oil painting is like a rare, multifaceted jewel made of color and light.
Erin's unique style of painting in oils is known as Open Impressionism.
The term "impasto" is an Italian word meaning “dough, paste, or kneading.” With impasto painting technique, Erin applies paint thickly to the canvas, breathing life and vivacity into the scene through her brushstrokes. Erin works in what is called "alla prima" (wet-on-wet), meaning the painting stays wet during the entire process of painting. Erin works quickly, placing each brush stroke in precise locations on the canvas, like placing tiles on a mosaic, capturing the ever-changing light and movement of the natural landscape.
The result is a richly textured painting that is rich in vibrant color and unbridled intensity.
