Lira Presents Spazio With W/M Connection

It Products Simpolo Gets An In-House Lab Today’s manufacturers must develop products quickly and inexpensively to meet the demands of a competitive marketplace. If not properly planned, third-party approvals can inadvertently delay product launch plans and increase overhead costs. With a well-equipped in-house lab, the development team can make product adjustments without delays. The key to comprehensive quality control is the use of an in-house laboratory. Having an inhouse, state-of-the-art laboratory is absolutely necessary to manufacture superior products. In-house laboratory allows for timely, accurate testing that ensures every product, from raw material to finished goods, meets all quality requirements. With a qualified lab onsite, Simpolo can save weeks or even

months in the product’s launch plans. The company can perform product testing in tandem with product development. There are many benefits to this strategy, including improved economies of scale, quick identification of product flaws, and quicker lead time to market with modified or new products. With this move, Simpolo is able to stay ahead of others in terms of quality and innovation. Simpolo has started the twin pressed double charged product with great success. Action Tesa Introduces 1.9mm Thin MDF

Action Tesa has recently introduced 1.9mm thin MDF that will be targeting the block board manufacturers to replace the 2.3mm - 5.5mm thickness MDF. The new range of 1.9mm MDF is also suitable for various other applications by replacing card boards/hard board with better quality, finished surface and product strength. Tesa 1.9mm MDF is made from hardwood which is eucalyptus that is well accepted in market. The company can give this product in 50 inch width in uncut form so that block board manufacturers can easily use laminate on its 50 inch width core. Duravit Presents The Nahho Flotation Tub

A special forte of the EOOS design group is drawing on archaic models to create new designs. Their latest design is the “Nahho” flotation tub for bathroom manufacturer Duravit. This new product follows the EOOS tradition whereby wellness always involves a special gesture. Specific requirements have to be met, in order to float in a bathtub. The most important pre - requisite is a totally relaxed, that is, totally stretched out posture to enjoy the feeling of weightlessness. To aid this experience the Nahho floatation tub features a special headrest which has been inspired by the “bushman” neck rest. Those who prefer to have their ears

underwater can simply remove the lower part of the bushman and slide down further into the bathtub. A specially developed sound module adds to the pleasure. The sound module uses bluetooth to establish a connection with a sound source and the sound is transmitted via structure-borne sound converters. Nahho thus promises optimum enjoyment of sound and music - both above and under water. Those also yearning for the evocative play of sunset light on the water will revel in Nahho’s gentle, indirect lighting. Everything to do with Nahho exudes peace and calm to enjoy total relaxation. ver the last 25 years, the Kajaria brand has become synonymous with innovation and customer satisfaction. Having evolved into a household name for tiling solutions it continues to delight consumers with dynamic offerings. Kajaria launched its in-house brand in sanitary ware - Kerovit - in 2013, showcasing an exhaustive range of bath solutions

Kerovit - Off To A Promising Start With Kerovit’s blend of unmatched functional innovations and state-of-theart designs, it is revved up to discover an unexploited market. BY ULKA MANJREKAR customers’ sanitary ware needs. The Kerovit product mix will comprise of single piece WC pans, wall hung WC pans, countertop basins, under-counter basins, full and half pedestals, EWCs, urinals and Orissa pans - making it a blend of manufactured and factored products. We also plan to introduce faucets to our kitty in the following months. Where is the company’s plant located? What was the investment for setting it up and how does it compare in technology/materials used in other international brands?

Kerovit showcased an exhaustive range of bath solutions in 2013, which is now gradually evolving into a 360° bathroom solutions provider

which is now gradually evolving into a 360° bathroom solutions provider. Kerovit’s product portfolio is designed to cater to the aspirations of the discerning buyer by providing them with stylish, classic, innovative yet economical bath solutions and is synonymous with simple elegant aesthetics, enduring style and subtle luxury that knows its value. In an exclusive interview with The Inside Track, Mr. Dhirendra Joshi, General Manager, Kerovit Sanitary ware Pvt. Ltd. talked about the brand Kerovit and what it will bring to the table. What need do Kerovit products fill in the market, and in what product categories does Kerovit plan to operate in India? Any company looking to introduce a new brand into the market has to take into account that the Indian consumer is extremely self-aware and knowledgeable. As a consumer group, we are probably one of the most discerning when it comes to making a purchase decision. We scrutinise, analyse and compare possibly every feature, benefit and price point before making a final choice. We demand top quality and aesthetics as well as a competitive deal - this is where Kerovit comes in.

Kerovit products appeal to the cultured Indian consumers’ design sensibilities - which tend to be inspired by European design innovators like Italy and Spain. We cater to the segment that aspires to follow international trends but at the same time does not want to burn a hole in its pocket. Being an Indian brand with the backing of one of the most trusted names in the building materials industry (Kajaria), Kerovit products value and respect the Indian psyche’s sensitivity to value for money. That is what will make it the ultimate choice for our

It is only after consolidating its position in the market that ceramic tiles major Kajaria has now diversified into sanitary ware and is poised to enter the faucet segment. The company has already set up a sanitary ware manufacturing plant at Morbi, Gujarat with an annual production capacity of 7 lakh pieces. These products are being sold under the brand name ‘Kerovit’. The brand was launched during AceTech last year; however the commercial production began in April this year with an investment of Rs.50 crores. Kajaria’s faucet plant at Gailpur in Rajasthan will have an initial capacity of 15 lakh pieces per annum, while the commercial production is slated

to commence by February 2015. For a better collaboration among these entities, a new holding company named Kajaria Bathware has been created under Kajaria Ceramics. The two segments - sanitary ware and faucets - will be managed by the new holding company. Kajaria carries a long legacy of trust; therefore any product from the house of Kajaria, including the entire range of Kerovit bathroom solutions, bears the parent company’s hallmark of quality and sustainability. Kajaria Ceramics has received the ISO 9001 for quality management, ISO 14001 for environment management, OHSAS 18001 for safety and health management, SA-8000 for commitment to society, ISO 22000 for Food Safety Management System and ISO 50001 for Energy

of a brand fit for Kerovit. Could you highlight the features, design and innovations that Kerovit products will embody and what will eventually set them apart?

Management across its various production facilities. These certifications speak volumes about our relentless focus on environmentally-conscious practices and our sustainability credentials. Kajaria’s membership to the Indian Green Building Council also reassures consumers and stakeholders that each product is consistently created through an eco -friendly process. What has been the response to the launch, and how do you plan to scale the brand? Our products are designed to cater to the savvy Indian consumer who is well versed with international design trends but is also looking for the best value; hence we have positioned Kerovit as a brand that offers ‘affordable luxury’. When we say affordable luxury we mean the best of quality, design and functionality as well as value for money. We encourage our customers to compare us to the other brands available in the market at the same price points, because with Kerovit we have strived to create an indigenous product that ticks all the boxes when it comes to global standards. Price is still an important factor but we do not consider it a constraint for our target audience and by no means does it supersede the quality

or functionality aspect. Keeping this in mind, we have moulded the price aspect into secondary consideration for an added benefit. Another factor that has helped us position Kerovit into a name that suggests style, class and value is the appointment of Nargis Fakhri as the brand ambassador. Since Kerovit is synonymous with a blend of simply elegant aesthetics, enduring style and subtle luxury, Nargis Fakhri, who portrays a promising new hallmark of sophistication and a seamless blend of indigenous as well as international appeal, resonates perfection in terms

Kerovit WCs are a perfect blend of technology, innovation and style. Some of the superlative features of these WCs include swirl flushes, soft close, quick release and easy-clean lids. Aside from these USPs, the WCs are stain-resistant, bacteria-resistant and hygiene-friendly, available with rimless basins, water-flow control, concealed cisterns and push-to-flow features, amongst others. One can opt for wallhung or one-piece WCs depending on taste, preferences and space availability. Along with the 10-year warranty, the products are crafted to be a veritable asset for any bathroom. How does Kerovit plan to compete with other Indian and international players in this crowded market? Based on our experience with Vitra which is an international sanitary ware brand, we conducted a market research and found the existence of untapped demand. It was then

Kendra by Kerovit

that we thought of venturing into manufacturing and production by setting up our Morbi plant. The decision to choose Morbi was essentially driven by availability of raw materials and labour. Though there has been significant modernisation on factory floors, sanitary ware plants remain largely labour intensive. We have the added advantage of collaborating with a local partner who understands the sentiments of the workers. With Vitra, we are only targeting the premium segment while Kerovit has been introduced to serve the mid-segment, so it is more of a backward integration for both brands to complement each other. Eventually, Kerovit will be

25

competing with other major players but we believe that competition is low and there is scope for everybody to grow. The market is largely untapped and is now opening up. What will be your marketing and distribution strategy? How will you create a brand connect with the design community and trade? For our brand we believe that retail is the best way to reach out to the market - in fact Kajaria’s extensive distributor network is the reason why we have been able to take this venture head on. However, selling through retail and having exclusive retail outlets is a costly affair so we created hubs - in the form of distributors. We have already appointed 23 distributors and 10 more are expected to come on board. In addition, we are also in the process of appointing dealers and attaching them to these distributors, termed as a distributor-dealer policy. It helps us further our reach more effectively and quickly. Distributors are kept in a close circle - like first-hand business partners and we maintain daily contact with them. They will

Kim by Kerovit

help us build and leverage the brand to the end consumer. In terms of revenue where do you see the brand at the end of one year and five years of operation respectively? We are quite upbeat about our sanitary ware and faucets venture. In the first year, we are targeting revenue of around Rs. 45 crores and we expect a quantum jump next year onwards. design are the values which inspire people and give them the freedom to design their homes according to their own individual taste. We at The Inside Track met the new man in charge at Villeroy & Boch, Mr. Amit Gadkari - Country Manager & General Manager - Bath & Wellness Division & Tableware Division for greater India for a candid interview and to discuss the upcoming plans and strategies of the company. Please tell us about the bath and sanitary ware industry in India. The Indian market is constantly growing and is offering us great opportunities especially in the project business area. The bath and sanitary industries are primarily segmented into two markets - the unorganised, which normally consists of local players and the organised market which consists of international players. There is a shift and growth in both markets; companies operating in the unorganised market are getting focused and organised and are growing at 30% YTY. While the organised market is growing at 20% YTY, adapting to local customer needs and demands and offering products at various price points. While most companies in both sectors are targeting volume based strategy, Villeroy & Boch is contributing to the premium segment offering premium and innovative products that give additional value to

A couple of new approaches to business are on the cards. Villeroy & Boch has a unique advantage of offering products across sanitary ware and tableware which no other player in the market has. We also have a third division which is the hotel and restaurants division with its specialised range of tableware products. This is 100% project driven. Thus our approach now is more integrated for both projects and retail sales. We are presenting V&B as a complete home solutions brand. In addition we are also generating consumer pull by working closely with architects, interior designers and other influencers. What is the market positioning of V&B and what is its USP? The Villeroy & Boch vision and positioning is to be a preferred brand in the premium segment of the bath and wellness industry. Our USP is our European culture and we therefore offer confident, sustainable and inspiring products combined with modern innovations and techniques. The combination of innovation and tradition is at the heart of Villeroy & Boch’s brand strategy and has been key for the company’s more than 265 years of continued success. We offer a piece of European innovation, design and industrial history. Also our innovative products e.g. Quaryl, CeramicPlus and DirectFlush are important contributors towards our success. How do you differentiate your products from your competitors? What differentiates us most from our

Villeroy & Boch is represented by its products in 125 countries. In view of fundamental changes to the global market and consumer structure, the corporate strategy at the start of the 21st century is focused on increasing Group internationalisation and globalisation.

Once again it is the brand which is at the centre of this process and which - as an authentic piece of European culture and innovative strength - is fascinating consumers in the major growth markets of Asia and America, offering complete bathroom solutions and winning reputed international awards every year. What is your bestselling product in the bath and sanitary ware category? In India we have our breakthrough

product called Purestone, which is a super success in high end retail, and in institutional sales Subway and Subway 2.0 are doing wonders. I can only tell you that worldwide our most successful products are DirectFlush and Subway 2.0.

We announce new products every year in February at the Ambiente, Frankfurt which is a trade show for homeware brands. The products are then available globally. In India, our bestsellers are in line with our position which is that of a premium lifestyle homeware brand. Hence in each category, be it porcelain, stemware or cutlery, our best sellers are the premium collections.

What is your most innovative product in the bath and sanitary ware category? Currently our most innovative product is the rimless DirectFlush WC. The conventional flushing rim is replaced with an intelligent water flow that rinses the entire interior of the bowl, without oversplashing. Conventional WCs have a narrow flushing rim, the interior of which is most difficult both to view and to access. Instead of this flushing rim, DirectFlush WCs are equipped with a small splash guard, allowing the WC bowl to be easily and hygienically cleaned. And even without manual cleaning, t h e WC s o f t h e i n n ov a t i v e DirectFlush generation are exceedingly hygienic. With a water consumption of only 3 or 4.5 litres, the innovative

and comfort: easy to clean products e.g. rimless WC DirectFlush and materials e.g. Quaryl and CeramicPlus and Shower-WCs e.g. ViClean-L. Spacious shower areas and rain showerheads make showering a wellness experience. We have shower bases for various different installation situations e.g. Architectura MetalRim. Naturalness in the bathroom is another trend: wood fronts in the furniture, harmonious shapes and colours, e.g. My Nature. Lighting concepts away from the ceiling light, to integrated lighting in furniture, mirrors and products such as shower toilets, fuel-efficient LED lighting, dimming, e.g. More to See 14 and My View 14. What do you expect from the future?

flushing technology maintains high flushing efficiency and ensures the rinsing of the entire bowl, so soiling can be avoided from the outset. As the open rim is completely glazed the WC can be particularly, quickly, easily and thoroughly cleaned. The WC innovation DirectFlush thus meets stringent hygiene requirements, not only in hospitals or in busy public buildings, but also in private homes.

India is an emerging market and due to its huge size and social structure it is a challenge, no doubt, but we are well set up in the country and we do believe in our plans and in achieving our goals very strongly. We aim to

be the first choice when it comes to premium, luxury bathrooms and the sanitary ware segment. Also we are constantly looking for extending our innovation portfolio. Therefore more of our collections will be equipped with the DirectFlush technology in the future. How are the Villeroy & Boch tableware products faring in the market? How often do you introduce new products in this segment? Which are some of your bestsellers? Since we opened our first tableware shop at Palladium, Mumbai last August, we have added three more shops - UB City, Bangalore, Quest Kolkata and Jubillee Hills, Hyderabad. This will be followed by Emporio Delhi in October. Our tableware products have been very well accepted and appreciated in these markets. The brand awareness has been strong amongst the luxury shoppers in India given that we have a global presence in 112 countries and our customer base are world travellers.

Can you outline some of the features of the latest bathroom and wellness products of Villeroy & Boch? The recent trends are changing in the Indian market. Customers prefer quality and innovative products, and most companies are investing in research and development to offer the same. Further trends for the bath and wellness are - hygiene

27

It is the quality, German make and design of Villeroy & Boch which distinguishes it from the other products in the market

Unlike other brands, Villeroy & Boch is the only brand that offers a complete tableware and homeware solution. Thus we offer porcelain tableware, cutler y, stemware, gifting accessories such as vases, candle stands and more. We also have table linen, cooking products as well as a kid’s range of porcelain and cutlery. Our competitors either have only porcelain or just stemware or just cutlery. How does Villeroy & Boch plan to capture a larger market share? What will be your marketing and distribution strategies? Our plan in India is to open 16 stand alone Villeroy & Boch shops within the next three years. In addition to opening stand alone shops, we are also evaluating opening shop in shops within the retail area of our bath and wellness dealers. This will be a unique concept perhaps the first time in Villeroy & Boch’s history. In India, it could be a reality since the brand is positioned at the premium end of the market in both tableware as well as sanitary ware (bath and wellness). Also the customers are the same. Can you tell us about your presence in the building ‘projects’ segment? Which top realtors do you work with and what are some of the popular ranges here? We are present at almost all luxury projects - be it with the Lodha Group, Sobha developers, Avighna, DLF housing, Runwal developers, Oberoi Reality to name a few. We have developed a range of sanitary ware products targeted at building projects which are competitively priced yet maintain our premium image. In addition we have been very innovative and have introduced products using a cutting edge technology such as Vi Clean - our rimless flushing WC which is an award winning product. for its awe inspiring designs and amazing quality and finish during Acetech 2013 in New Delhi. The collection of wash basins will initially have four nature inspired exclusive designs namely, Düne (inspired by sand dunes), Seerose (inspired by petals of water lily), Golden Cut (90° geometric cut design) and Kristall (inspired by natural crystal). The collection provides a subtle, visual reminder of nature, and each design connects people with emotions and memories associated with nature. In an exclusive interview with The Inside Track, Mr. Chirag Parekh, Chairman Managing Director of Acrysil Limited talked about the launch and the plans ahead for the company.

Can you share a brief account of the genesis of the Sternhagen brand? Born in 2012, the fast growing Sternhagen brand is designed in Germany and made in India. Launched in Las Vegas (KBIS 2014) and New Delhi (Acetech 2013), I envisioned Sternhagen as the brand where ‘Art Meets Engineering’ reflects the changing tastes of India and the world. ‘Art Meets Engineering’ is also the brand’s design philosophy and positioning baseline. Sternhagen brings together the best of German design and engineering with world class Indian manufacturing. Sternhagen’s functionality and aesthetics complete every luxury wellness experience.

The Indian market demands high quality products and innovation in the bathroom and wellness space. In that, we are targeting the rapidly growing high end market and the well informed as well as discerning buyers in India. Innovation is in the DNA of Sternhagen, starting with our specially developed material created by Germany’s best material R&D team, to our product designers who were inspired by our positioning of ‘Art Meets Engineering’, to create designs based on the principles o f t h e n a t u re m ove m e n t o f ‘Bio-Mimicry’. Our short term goal is to appoint selected dealers and distributors panIndia to increase our availability. We are also launching our 2014 ad campaign in carefully chosen publications to increase awareness and our share of voice in the coming festive season. How do you plan to penetrate the market with Sternhagen products; what kind of distribution system do you have in place? We are focused on building our distribution network across the country, so we can reach aware and discerning buyers across India. We are looking for dealers and distributors who will work with us as

At Sternhagen, we believe in building and growing relationships with our partners, hence we are carefully selecting our partners. We have our products live in Mumbai and Delhi now. They will be available in Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Chennai before Diwali. We are currently selecting dealers and distributors in the North and East of India. What are the different products (or segments) that you plan on introducing in India? Are these customised specifically for Indian tastes? The Sternhagen brand is designed in Germany and made in India. It’s meant for discerning Indians who hate compromises and not just appreciate but demand the highest quality and innovation in the products they own. We launched our 2014 collection which is a perfect marriage of functionality and aesthetics and comes in two categories. The first one is Sani-Q wash basins which are engineered from the innovative Quar tz composite material - ‘Sani-Q’. Developed especially for sanitary use, and to make every Sternhagen sink last generations; owning it is just like owning a piece of art. Sani-Q has properties of being harder than ceramic; also being heat, stain and
