the same effects by incorporating the right kind of space planning. Use of every inch productively along with minimal space cramping furniture involves the use of multiuse cabinets, niches in walls, light weight glass shelves along with towel rods on shower cubicle doors and collapsible cabinets. Lighting Lighting has become an important factor in bathroom design, largely thanks to the emergence of LED technology. Instead of a single overhead light, it is now layered throughout the room creating a warm ambience at the same time demarcating various task zones. Whether it is the motion-sensor lights installed at the floor level and glowing LED strips concealed within decorative wall niches or tucked under joinery, or an oversized lampshade or chandelier to bling things us, lighting is an extremely evolving trend that needs to be looked into for a maximum visual impact.

Colour Play Clear shapes and colours create a relaxed atmosphere especially when time is of the essence. Matt tones like silk light blue, taupe and beton give an impression of space and clarity creating a feel good atmosphere. While whites and neutrals will probably never go out of style in the bathroom, those in the know are introducing colour and having some fun in the process. There’s colour in tiles, grout, and stone, and even in high-gloss vanity joinery. Blush pink is definitely making a comeback, and the concept of one colour or one finish all over in a small bathroom is also becoming popular. Smart Bathrooms While we all aspire to create beautiful bathrooms, we’re still firmly focused on product functionality. But instead of the focusing on aesthetics or function, these two elements should come together to reveal a new world of intelligent bathrooms. We’re talking smart, sensor-activated toilets with self-cleaning functionality, seat warmers or night-lights and hightech showerheads with customizable spray settings. Other ingenious bathroom products designed to take indulgence to the next level include touchscreen mirrors with integrated speakers and USB ports so you can tune in while you’re zoning out in the bath.

There are also electronic mirrors with LED clocks, and magnifying mirrors with automatic de-misting functionality. ‘Smart’ is clearly the ‘it’ mantra of today and the bathroom segment isn’t going to stay behind. Not to be left behind, come the products that enable us to follow the trends. Now a days, in the cut throat competitive world, a few notorious brands stand out and constantly keep conjuring up crafty new innovations. A few of these are.

Despite the use of washing machines (and thank god for those), we find that the back and forth agitating movement of an electronic machine can damage the fiber and texture of certain clothes overtime. Sans the rough and harsh toss, turn and tumble movements, the Delicair is ideal for cleaning embellished apparels, handknitted sweaters, fancy lace articles or clothes. It is also energy and water efficient along with an easy-to-use electronic panel. In addition it is space saving and available in different colours and installation styles. If you frequently hand wash clothes and feel the need for a mechanized as well as a gentler cleaning process then this highly effective and functional sink by Aquatic is perfect for you.

The unorganized players manufacture sanitary ware items using conventional technologies and cater mainly to the mass market or low-income strata group, whereas organized players employ latest world class technologies for production and majorly serve to premium and superpremium market segments. These days, manufacturers are increasingly scaling their production capacities to preser ve water, advancing manufacturing processes and focusing on innovative technologies to produce ergonomically convenient designs. A shift from traditional colour palettes to vibrant and unique colours has been observed. The concept of luxury too has shifted towards creating wholesome experiences for oneself, spending time preciously, making life easier and enhancing the quality of everyday life. What steps have you taken towards sustainability? The depletion of natural resources and rise environmental alarms have been prevalent not only in India, but around the world. n the Tribeca South Historic District, of New York City, WORKac has renovated and constructed a series of spacious loft residences behind a beautiful old castiron facade building. Popularly known as ‘the stealth building’, the name is inspired from the fact that it has a hidden rooftop structure that contains three storey penthouses which are meant to be invisible according to the city’s Landmarks Commission. Being located on a highly visible corner with a low two storey building across the street meant that the building’s roof would be visible evidently. As a solution to this, Workac has designed a roof that involves three roof top projections that hide behind the three obstructions; the triangular pediment of the historic Carey Building next door, the circular pediment and an abandoned elevator bulkhead at the top of the building itself. Thus, the dynamic roof structure is completely hidden from the street below.

Each apartment houses an in between space that contains storage and bathrooms and also connects the bedrooms to the living spaces. Elements such as futons, seating areas and a herb garden are making the apartments seem multifunctional. The building contains three 1650 square foot apartments and a 1750 addition with the roof that gives the penthouses a 3,400 square foot area. The bottom most floor of the penthouse consists of three bedrooms and a family room.

he resort’s design blends the indigenous stories of Phuket’s four fictitious clans united to form a village named Keemala, with the decadence of an upscale resort. The architecture is a stark contrast to most hotel accommodations and is designed by Thailand based talent Architect Space. Keemala’s fantastic cottages, tree houses and pool villas are designed around the unique topographical conditions. Set into the hillside and making use of slopes offering sea views, streams, waterfalls and indigenous trees, it creates the ultimate paradise for guests. It utilizes the natural surroundings as an inspiration and a base to innovate a totally different hotel accommodation type for Phuket. The overall design leverages on two major components: nature and culture. The majority of the building materials are natural products and the resources found on site have been recycled. Materials used also include artificial products that have natural forms, or are partly made of natural products.

Wherever possible the design is environmentally sustainable and the construction complements the surrounding ecosystem rather than demolishing it, and creates a manmade surrounding. As a result, the residences, public areas, bridge, path and sculptures are inspired from natural forms of flowers, bird’s nests and symbolizing the items of the local people’s way of life like the use of vibrant colors, natural fabrics, and earthiness. The guest rooms are designed into four different interior types; Clay Pool Cottages which boast of interiors that are made of clay and dirt with the furniture is built in a combination of wood and other natural materials telling the tale of the ‘Pa-Ta-Pea’ clan.

amous for its cheese tarts, the Pablo is an Osaka based bakery and has branches open worldwide due to its popularity. With 38 stores in Japan and 9 stores worldwide, they make Pablo cheese tarts which are baked like a piece of art. Customers are able to watch the process of the cooking of these fluffy tarts at the front of the store before enjoying them in the back room. A warm palette of exposed brick with orange and yellow tinted wood paneling creates an inviting atmosphere. Quite evidently, the name of the store is inspired from the artist Pablo Picasso. The store recently opened a new outlet in the Hyogo area of Yokohama, Japan. The store is an eclectic mix of curved elements and greens used to give a fun and classy vibe to the interiors. A tunnel like passageway with the counter on one side and curved bracket like elements that span the entire height marks the entry to the store. The polished white top of the counter is complemented by the lush green vegetation on its side. The curved brackets are also accentuated with natural vegetation to recreate the feel of walking through a canopy of trees. The curves in the design are inspired from the process of baking which involves processes like churning, wrapping, stamping. As you pass through the passageway, you enter the seating area of the store which serves as a cafe. Perched on the black mesh of greenery above the seating area is the name of the store in silver block letters.

ver wondered what it would feel like if you had a hammerhead shark swimming in circles right above your head while you just lay there motionless and…unharmed! Conrad Maldives on Rangali Island provides that exact adrenalin coursing through your vein experience. Today, where residential luxury is limited to expensive frills, fancy pools, multi-cuisine restaurants and private beaches; this hotel has taken it a hundred notches higher by announcing the first undersea residence in the world aptly named Muraka, meaning coral. Muraka will allow travellers to sleep beneath the sea, fully immersed within the natural beauty of the Indian Ocean, thanks to a $15 million investment. There’s not much individualistic creativity in the luxury segment of resorts today. Similar furnishings, infinity pools, numerous multicuisine restaurants and what not. lthough most of us probably live in homes with more modest bathrooms, every once in a while it’s fun to gawk at some spaces that are truly over the top. Outdoor bathrooms often misconstrued as a design gimmick, are in fact uncannily useful when one needs to escape the confined spaces usually ridden with odors and moisture. For the most part, they are beneficial to places that hail of tropical climatic conditions and are also widely common in luxury resorts as well as eco resorts so that patrons can be close to nature. These 3 bathrooms, handpicked by us at The Inside Track, are a few spaces dreams are made of. his school in Bali would be like just any other school; with parents dropping of their children at the entrance, the kids running towards the gate waving good-byes and the sudden silence after the school bell. But once we get past this ritual and you enter its premises, you will realize that it is a school like no other. The Green School Bali is immersed in the jungle, wrapping both sides of Bali’s longest river, the Ayung, in the district of Abiansemal near Ubud. Not only is it completely surrounded by native plants and trees growing in their sustainable organic gardens, but the entire school campus is a complete bamboo structure with buildings that include classrooms, gym, assembly spaces, faculty housing, offices, cafes as well as bathrooms. The ‘heart of the green school’ is basically a combination of three huge bamboo huts situated lineally and the other spaces radiate form these nodes in a spiral manner. The spiraling bamboo stairs and roof structure give the huts an overall enchanting aesthetic. The several rice fields, gardens, a fish pond and compost toilets that add to the character of the school, are also situated radially. Local bamboo, grown using sustainable methods, is used in innovative and experimental ways that demonstrate its architectural possibilities. The bamboo is used to its true potential by using it structurally, as well as for decorative and recreational purposes, including flooring, seating tables, and several other fixtures.

ea is a very important part of the Chinese culture and locals drink it anytime and anywhere. The tea culture spread throughout China with all walks of life able to enjoy tea with the different grades of tea from the cheapest to the priceless. Tea preparation has since long become standardized. Every restaurant will serve tea and almost every Chinese household owns a small tea set, or a huge tea table. Even a simple meal is finished off with tea so its importance is obvious. For the Chinese, tea drinking and tasting are not the same. Tea drinking, to them, is for refreshment and tonic effect. One Teahouse, is a modern tea room in Shanghai’s Hongkou district. Designed and conceptualized by Minax Architects, it has 999 wooden sticks that surround the room, creating a sculptural interior. Minax Architects had a vision to create a space where drinking a cup of tea that would be elevated into an act of spiritual significance.
Not Your Usual Cup Of Tea This elliptical egg shaped tea house

Designed and conceptualized by MINAX Architects, it has 999 wooden sticks that surround the room, creating a sculptural interior
The 4cm x 4cm wooden sticks have been arranged by an identical center in the rectangular room and they are cut out of an oval space, with each stick having its own different angle and length. Through a gradual transition, the sticks transform the rectangular room into an oval that’s focused on the long table that points to the single round window. This cocoon-like space covers an area of approximately 18 square meters. On one side of the room, a round window faces the urban road, while a square doorway is adjacent to a garden on the other side. When the sunlight is reflected from the cut surface of every stick, an observer can define multiple layers of circles. Minax Architects inserted handmade wooden sticks of varying lengths into the oriented strand board walls of a rectangular room. Each stick is cut at a different angle and length to create the illusion of an ellipsoidal space. At the center of the space is a low “Yi Zhang” tea table by Shanghai-based furniture designers Minaxdo with seating for six persons. Contact web: www.minax.com
