How do you perceive the changes in the Indian lighting industry over the past couple of decades? The primary change has been in terms of how consumers are looking at electrical and lighting products over these decades. Earlier, a lighting product was simply a utilitarian device that simply served a purpose. The consumer would rather let the electrician choose the product without being involved in the buying process. There’s been a sea change in this attitude. Now, right from switches to cover plates to doorbells to accessories like extension cords, spike guards, etc. consumers have become aware of what they need. For the new age consumer, quality in terms of finish, durability, safety is considered a given. For them, a really top quality product is one that is aesthetically superior and which complements or enhances their living or work environment. The other change that is very visible is the range of options that a customer has today in terms of colour, finish, price and more. As they say, the only limitation is imagination, and that’s true for the situation today. If a consumer wants something, more often than not, a product like that would exist in the market. Can you tell us about the innovations that you have introduced over the past decade? Goldmedal can claim to have introduced some interesting products and concepts in the Indian
market. We were probably the first in the industry to introduce glass modular cover plates in a various shades. Over the years it has become very popular with almost every company now having its own range. We were also the first company to introduce Radio Frequency (RF) remote controlled switches and systems. Most other companies used Infrared (IR) technology which was cumbersome to use and had physical limitations. Our latest innovation is the Home Automation System which can be activated in your home within 24 hours. The wonderful part of this technology is that it can be installed even within your existing wiring. This saves a considerable amount of time and money as there are no new wires to be installed and the installations can be carried out by any competent electrician.

Choose a Spot Behind the big sofa in the living room, the main bedroom wall, the wall spanning a veranda, the wall climbing beside the main staircase, the wall behind the work desk, or the work desk itself - where to create a photo frame display is a personal choice. You could even pick a dedicated big table in the living room to place the frames on. Keep it Uneven In overall flow, a distinct display can be achieved by hanging the frames like tiles/bricks, or in a lattice form. You can also choose differentlyshaped frames - square, oval, wide, rectangle - and create a tight collage with them. A careful clutter of frames, i.e., letting them overlap a bit while standing on an open shelf, is a trendy idea too. However, if you like them more evenly-placed, a good trick is to choose frames dipped in a bold colour, like a blood red or a lemon yellow, and letting them hang against a contrasting wall, which could be anything from white to light green. he planning and designing of green ventures to restore the ecological balance in metros has become a prime necessity. Mumbai being one of the metros that record very high air pollution levels according to the reports of World Health Organization (WHO), the need for green expanses is the need of the hour here. In this regard, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the prime civic body in Mumbai had recently invited multi-disciplinary design teams to design a marvelous makeover for Maharashtra Nature Park being mindful of the city’s steadfastly depleting biodiversity. Maharashtra Nature Park, once called Mahim Nature Park is situated near Dharavi, the largest slum in Asia. It has a forested area of 37 acres which was a former garbage dump beside the south bank of the Mithi River.

The plan of the project of redesigning this park had to prospectively take care of environmental guidelines as well as the construction regulations. The competition also required the planning for the construction of a non-motorized bridge across the north bank of the Mithi River. The prime objective for both the projects which are interlinked is directed at the restoration of the Mithi River in the near future.
This competition added to the spectrum envisaged by the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan with a view to encourage participation of the citizens themselves in the advancement of the city. It had 2 stages and one, with an interim stage suggested by the jury during the course of the competition. The result of the competition was finally declared on 16th January 2017. The team called City Collaborative consisting of Ratan

after successfully completing several rounds of the competition. The idea of the MNP makeover and bridge was driven by the overriding vision of the regional circumstances where the Mithi, its flood plains and the entire estuarine delta were envisaged as the extended program. The team believed that the Park and the Bridge could not be viewed in isolation. Keeping this in mind, their approach had been a long term, multi-dimensional one,

addressing the concerns of the river, the encroachments, the people in the neighbourhood of the park, while being very sensitive to the existing flourishing eco-system of the park. They attempted to understand and harness the resilience, investigate the issues, remediate the problem areas and provide recreation but not at the cost of the existing ecosystem within the Park.
Their regional strategy is to reclaim the flood plains of the Mithi, suggest viable slum redevelopment options where more land is available to phytoremediate the the water naturally and provide more open space for them. For the bridge, their interventions were deeply respectful of the tides within the estuary, the mudflats and their avian visitors and the bridge is placed with supports aligned to
part of the investigative/educative intervention, seeking to understand the problem while educating people and scientists on the causes of the same, in the least invasive way possible. There are many international sanitary ware companies that have entered the market. How are they performing? How are they competing with Indian brands? Indeed many international companies particularly those from Germany and Italy have entered this market, nevertheless the Indian brands like Kajaria are also are making their presence felt.
There has been an increase in the premium segment in the sanitary ware industry. Which according to you is the leader in this segment and which are some their best-selling products?

Today there is a concept of ‘complete bathroom solutions’ offered by brands. Are consumers opting for these concept bathrooms or are they still mixing and matching? Despite the fact that some brands are providing complete bathroom solutions, however they do not always come up to the promise of high end bathrooms. Therefore, mix
and match is a more preferable option amongst customers. We generally mix and match with Aqua Viva, a German collaboration, for their bathtubs, fittings and jacuzzi and VitrA, a collaboration from Turkey for their WTs and basins. Which companies are providing high quality water saving bath fittings today? Is there a great demand for such products? There is a considerable demand for high quality bath fittings, however, water conservation is yet not in vogue. Though some brands promise water conservation, they do not live up to the expectation of it.

Panasonic Unveils Radiant Cooling Air-Conditioner
