Stakes high, vote begins Congress, state gov to be decided BY B L A N K S L AT E M E D I A E D I T O R I A L S TA F F Great Neck residents will be voting on a variety of state and local elections, including a gubernatorial race between Gov. Kathy Hochul and U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley), Nov. 8. 3rd Congressional District Democrat Robert Zimmerman is running against George DevolderSantos to represent the state’s 3rd Congressional District. The seat is currently held by U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-Glen Cove), who lost in the gubernatorial primary against Hochul. Zimmerman, who is running on the Democratic and Working Family Parties lines, is the co-president of ZE Creative Communications on Bond Street in Great Neck, a public relations firm he started 33 years ago with Ron Edelson, and a Democratic national committeeman. After graduating from Brandeis University, he worked as a congressional aide on Capitol Hill for Congressmen Lester Wolff, James Scheuer and Gary Ackerman. Additionally, he served on the board of the American Museum of Natural History as a government representative for 20 years. Continued on Page 51

2 days later, no final library vote totals Slate of candiates opposes 24 proxy ballots with Asian surnames: sources BY R OB E RT PE L A E Z Objections have reportedly been filed by a slate of candidates in the Great Neck Library election to proxy votes, 24 of which have East Asian or South Asian surnames, sources told Blank Slate Media on Wednesday. Rebecca Rosenblatt Gilliar informed Blank Slate Media of the objections on Wednesday that were submitted by candidates Jessica Hughes, Christina Rusu and Sara Rivka Khodadadian. Both Gillar and Lancman said they were not present in the room for the objections and counting of ballots but had representatives and sources in the room who disclosed the infor-
mation to them. Hughes is running against incumbent board President Liman Mimi Hu while Lancman, Rusu and Karen Hirsch-Romero are running in an atlarge election for a vacant seat on the board in a race marked by culture issues. Khodadadian is running against Kim Schader for an expiring seat on
the library’s nominating committee. Both seats on the board have fouryear terms while the committee seat is a three-year term. Sources said that more than 3,000 in-person votes were tallied at the election machines on Monday from 10 a.m.- 10 p.m. while more than 330 proxy votes were submitted to the liContinued on Page 50
