Stewart, Longobardi unopposed Current trustee, ex-fire chief face no competition for Floral Park board BY B R A N D ON D U FF Y Two candidates for the Village of Floral Park Board of Trustees, Michael Longobardi and Jennifer Stewart, are running unopposed in the March 15 election. The two are running on the Citizens’ Party line. Stewart, a lifelong resident of the village, serves on the board and is seeking election for the first time. She was appointed last March to fill the remainder of Kevin Fitzgerald’s term, which was left vacant upon his election as mayor. Stewart is the liaison to the Floral Park Pool, Library and North End Civic Association, where she serves on the board. She is a special education teacher at the David Paterson School in Hempstead. Longobardi is running for the seat left vacant by Trustee Archie Cheng, who is not seeking re-election.

Longobardi has been a member of the Floral Park Fire Department as a volunteer for 31 years. He has risen through the ranks as high as chief, a position he held previously. In addition, Longobardi has served as chairman of the Village Fire Safety Program, training committee, by-law committee and department fundraising committee. Outside the department, he is a public accountant and has been involved with recreational programs and school associations. Longobardi is the brother of former Mayor Dominick Longobardi. Cheng, who has been a Floral Park resident since 1978, is not seeking re-election to a third term after initially being elected in 2016.
