Because of this, Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state disaster emergency on Friday morning. The executive order increases the resources to protect New Yorkers against the paralytic disease.

At a press conference, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman said there is no health crisis. But, he said the county is not brushing oﬀ the situation.

More than two decades after the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11 killed 2,996 people, including 56 North Hempstead residents, the town hosted its annual memorial service at Manhasset Valley Park on Sunday morning.

Ofcials presented a $250,000 check to fund Donald Street Park’s recently completed restoration proj ect in North Hempstead Monday.

In 2007, fve Building Depart ment ofcials were indicted after a 16-month investigation by then Nas sau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice for receiving favors and pay ments in exchange for granting per mits without inspections.

Zuckerman shared a similar sentiment. He said the partnership between Kaplan and the Town gov ernment paved the way for their commitment to improve the park.

She clarifed she was referring to issues the Building Department faced 15 years ago.

On July 11, DeSena, a Republi can, held a press conference outside the Building Department calling for an audit, saying she conducted a com plete and thorough review into the de partment she called scandal-plagued.

State Assemblyman Charles Lavine (D-Glen Cove) has asked the county Legislature’s Public Safety Committee to investigate allega tions of corruption within the Nassau County Police Department after a detective allegedly took money in an illegal Mafia operation.

“It would be absolutely improper for the Legislature to insert itself into an active federal investigation,” he said. “However, if Assemblyman Levine is so concerned with crime in New York he should consider repealing the dangerous bail reforms enacted by New York State Democrats.”

Before making any more changes to state bail laws, legislators should also consider the catastrophic toll on the lives of those arrested who cannot aﬀord bail and their families beginning with lost jobs, eviction from homes and broken families.

This is true in both civil and criminal cases. Small businesses and most individuals in many cases cannot afford the cost of taking on large corporations with an army of lawyers at their command. Try suing Amazon, Apple or Facebook if you doubt this.

Critics blame cash-less bail for an increase in violent crime. But no evidence exists to support the claim that New York’s bail reform is responsible for increases in violent crime, which have occurred nationwide, including in jurisdictions without bail reform, during the Nassaupandemic.Countyrecently reported that authorities rearrested about 7% of defendants who were released without bail during the second quarter. But that included nonviolent crimes such as possession of controlled substances, larceny, criminal mischief and not showing up at trial.

In most other shows, an army of electricians, plumbers, contractors and decorators troop through a property, redoing everything about it from cellar (if there is one) to chimney top (ditto), and rendering it unrecognizable in the process. But — and here’s the part that drives my husband wild — it all somehow gets done for about $50 in labor, and maybe $35 in supplies.In short, unbelievable. Not even close. Even the venerable granddaddy home improvement show of them all, “This Old House,” is getting harder and harder to believe.

put his party in a weak position with swing and suburban voters. The Republican Party wants the 2022 election to be about such issues as crime and inflation and instead Mr. Trump continues to keep the party on defense. The Trump wailing about 2020 has caused deep divides in the party and is causing party candidates to break away from their still popular formerSomepresident.Democratic partisans will tell you that the Roe v. Wade controversy is enough to get the party over the November finish line. But that decision, by itself, is not enough to turn the tide totally in the party’s favor. The passage of so many meaningful laws at a time when the public has little or no faith in government has given the party’s image a major boost with many voting groups. Laws that help so many different groups are a bonus prior to any election.

This coming November will be a challenge to both political parties, but the Democratic Party needs its own trifecta to help them come out on top. The ﬁrst thing that works in the party’s favor is the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court throwing out a woman’s right to choose under Roe v. Wade. The second part of the trifecta is the passage of three major bills by the Democratic congressional majority that will improve the lives of millions of Americans. And the third part of their political hopes is continued

Another thing I like about this show is that they use believable ﬁgures —last night’s construction had a budget of $71,000 which got completely used up.

In last night’s episode (Season 1, Episode 6), they were still together in their small home, even though the husband had utterly failed at reinstalling the toilet in the main bathroom. The episode was actually titled “The Toilet is Still in the Hallway.” The couple had apparently been friends and sweethearts since childhood, but there is a limit to everything.

“I’m glad you realize that. And second?”“Ifyou tried, I’d be gone.”

In the meanwhile, it makes for quite an amusing time.

I watched it all, riveted by the awfulness of what this couple was living with, but eventually I noticed that my husband was shaking, sitting on the couch with me.

In the ﬁnal analysis, I’m watching these shows like some people watch traﬃc accidents, just to see how bad things can get.

Party. Their early overconfidence has turned into deep worries about the fate of their candidates. While the party regulars are counting on a House majority, a Senate majority dream is on shaky grounds, due to the nomination of candidates with controversial backgrounds. In most of the states with expected close contests, the Democrats have raised large amounts of money and have more appealing candidates.Because of the Democrats’ good fortune, the Republican Party has made a last-minute decision to come up with a platform of proposals, instead of relying on inflation and crime to carry them to victory. Most of the new ideas to come are actually the old planks of a once moderate party. Elections are a horse race and the favorites can be losers if the turf gets too bumpy. And any gambling addict will tell you that nothing is a sure thing until your horse passes the finishing pole.

For one thing, the “Before” situations are so completely dreadful that I even ﬁnd the “After” inﬁnitely better. My favorite excerpt so far features a young husband who has gutted the living room, raised the roof joists and somehow installed what he thinks is a supporting beam. (Spoiler: he is wrong.)“Oh my gosh, what happened?” says the star and creator of the series, Jasmine Roth, with forced cheeriness.

I recall with fondness the quaint, old, 13,000-seat Forest Hills Stadium where I ﬁrst saw Bob Dylan in concert. Those pretty green tennis courts are a thing of the past.

After she moved to San Francisco as a freelance writer for Japanese magazines, she became a senior textile designer for home furnishings in New York City for more than 25 years.

Williston Day returned to a big turnout in 2021, the ﬁrst fair since 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.Zolezzi said last year the chamber originally had 200 spaces for vendors, businesses and community organizations. However, the total number exceeded that by a considerable margin.

Additionally, Hans Asperger, the Austrian physician it was named after, was a Nazi collaborator who handed over his autistic patients for extermination if he deemed them not of use to the Third Reich. Referring to someone as “having Asperger’s syndrome” is the equivalent of telling them the Nazis would have considered them worthy of life. It is utterly abhorrent.

What is not talked about is why public college costs increased as state support declined. In addition, colleges spent money on staﬀ to meet federal and state compliance requirements, improve facilities and add programs to attract students during a demographic decline, meet increasing competition, and discount tuition to supplement ﬁnancial aid funding.

More disturbing is that the law that created the council is designed to ensure that those who try to speak over and for disabled county residents can sit on it instead of anyone with the actual life experience of being disabled.At the discretion of the county legislature’s presiding officer and minority leader, some or all voting seats can be filled by “a representative of an organization that provides services to or advocacy on behalf of” disabled people.The Legislature apparently thought it had to allow for the possibility that, among the handful of disabled categories listed in the law, there might not be a single disabled person in all of Nassau County capable of filling a seat. This is absolute infantilizing nonsense.

I shouldn’t have to explain this to Outlaw or any of your readers, but portraying autism or any other disability as something to be fought against or overcome (rather than accommodated) is deeply ableist, and that video alone proves that SCO views its autistic clients and the autistic community at large with nothing but paternalistic contempt.

When I asked a federal oﬃcial at a meeting of college presidents why the interest rate on federal student loans was higher than the commercial rates for home mortgages, and why they charged interest on the interest payments, he said the government was using the money to pay down the federal deﬁcit! About 25% of all debt is debt accumulated on interest.

Nassau’s advisory council falls far short

The Biden Plan is a good start because it focuses on those most in need. Biden Plan 2.0 should focus on the policy concerns about costs and loan administration detailed above.

Firstly, the very name of the council is ableist. “Disabled” is not a dirty word, and using person-ﬁrst language (“people with disabilities”) both treat it as one and suggest that one’s disability is an accessory that can and should be separated from one’s identity.

Many of these so-called “colleges” have closed, but the ill-gained money can be traced. Fourth, student loan debt should be eligible for bankruptcy protection, just as every other form of debt is covered. Federal and private student loans for educational purposes face an unusually high burden for discharge and this should be changed. Amending the 2005 Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act would be a way of reducing the debt without incurring the current costs of forgiveness.Fifth,theBiden Plan should address the problems in the federal administration of the income contingent reimbursement program and the Teacher Loan Forgiveness program. Both have been mismanaged.Sixth,the Biden Plan provided an opportunity to advance a policy objective concerning college graduation rates,

Imagine if institutional eligibility for government aid was based, at least in part, on predicted and actual graduation rates. Colleges would be more accountable for the students they admit, the academic and other support services they provide to foster student success, and their retention and graduation rates, especially of students who enrolled with the assistance of federal student loans. They also should be held to account for their cost structures by boards of trustees, accrediting agencies, and both state and federal student aid programs.

These students deserve the Biden “break”.But the Biden Plan does not go far enough. First, there should be more support for college and ﬁnancial counseling for students at under-resourced public schools. Second, there should be funding to strengthen community colleges, the

Wink said he hopes the commission follows the same process as the independent redistricting commission for North Hempstead, which recommended bipartisan maps ahead of time to the town board that the public was able to see.
