Race for Senate with Haber likely B y J oe N i k ic Village of Flower Hill Mayor Elaine Phillips announced Thursday that she will run for state Sen. Jack Martins’ 7th district seat after she was nominated by the Nassau County Republican Party. “I am honored to be nominated to run for the state Senate in the seventh district,” Phillips said. “I believe that, as a member of the state Senate, I would be in a position to continue my work to reduce property taxes, protect the environment and provide every child with an opportunity to succeed.” The announcement comes almost two weeks after she said she went to Albany to meet with Martins and members of the Republican Senate Conference about a potential run for the 7th District seat. Steven Liebman, 50, was arraigned Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead

The sheriff’s officers came to Liebman’s house at 17 Tatterson Street at 3 p.m. Tuesday to serve him with civil court papers, police said. Police later determined it was a BB gun. The officers retreated and called Nassau County police at 3:25 p.m., police said. Police blocked off roads in the area and surrounded the house with multiple police cars and an ambulance. Liebman surrendered and was arrested at 11:20 p.m., police said. The police department’s Bureau of Special Operations,

A Roslyn High School student named Joshua said he had to spend Tuesday night at his aunt’s house because the street where he lived was closed.
