Meet the winners of the 2017 Readers’ Choice Awards or the 13th year, we counted on the community to identify the best of Hilton Head Island and Bluffton, and the results were swift and decisive. The voting platform had a new look this year, allowing businesses to post photos or logos during the nomination phase in The Island Packet’s Readers’ Choice Awards — a survey of the best people and businesses in southern Beaufort County. This year just over 51,000 votes were cast. We encouraged people to pre-nominate individuals and companies that they felt best deserved the recognition, and we then created a database of nominees. More than 7,600 people voted in the contest. Voting took place online, with participants selecting their favorites from the list of nominees. Many businesses used Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites to encourage their fans to participate in the Readers Choice contest and support them in the ballot box. There was no end to the creative ways people worked to drum up support and build awareness — kudos to the creativity displayed. Inside this special section, you’ll find a list of all the categories and winners for southern Beaufort County. Northern Beaufort County had its own Readers Choice contest, and those results are published today in The Beaufort Gazette. Voting ballots were available at www.islandpacket.com and www.beaufortgazette.com. The 150-plus categories included everything from best Realtor to best grocery store to best pizza. We’ve printed a list of The Island Packet winners on pages 24-25. All voting was conducted online, and people could vote once per day during the 10-day voting window in May. After we tabulated the results, we contacted the winners, and some of them decided to celebrate their success in this section. Many winning businesses are thanking their clients in this section by offering special promotions, so check out their messages. All of our winners will receive an official Readers’ Choice Award that they can display in their business for all their patrons to see. Watch for next year’s Readers’ Choice Awards, and be sure to cast your ballot for your local favorites.

A hotbed for Lowcountry arts, festivals, exhibits and workshops The Arts Center of Coastal Carolina is a professional showcase for performing and visual arts, producing Broadwaycaliber theater throughout the year and also presenting world-class musical artists, top-notch dance companies and more. When most customers think about Liberty Wallcoverings and Window Blinds, chances are it conjures up visions of cookies — peanut butter, chocolate chip, and the delicious smells of other fresh-baked favorites that owner Ruth Iannazzo offers up daily. “She’s done this for the last 35 years,” said John Iannazzo Jr., about his mother’s baking habits.
