Liberty STEAM Charter School is a tuition-free public charter school that will be opening this fall with its founding two classes, kindergarten and first grade. The charter school which is part of the S.C. Public Charter School District

will focus on STEAM career pathways aligned to the local economy through personalized and project-based learning, seeking to provide scholars with a blend of rigorous and relevant academic and workplace learning experiences that ultimately will prepare its graduates with the competencies necessary to be successful in college or a career. Beginning with kindergarten and first grade enrollment in year one, they will expand in year two with the addition of pre-kindergarten and second grade and then add a new grade every year until they have a fully inclusive academic community consisting of pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Liberty STEAM is an open doorway to new ways of learning, teaching and thinking with a clear goal in mind: to graduate our scholars with a clear purpose!

Additionally, Sumter has numerous private, independent, and parochial schools that go from kindergarten to 12th grade, including Holy Angels Academy, Sumter Christian School, Thomas Sumter Academy – South Carolina’s first SCISA STEAM school, Westside Christian Academy and Wilson Hall – one of the largest and most successful independent schools in the state.

Last but certainly not least, Sumter is home to multiple colleges and universities for residents to obtain advanced degrees and continuing education certifications, including USC Sumter, Central Carolina Technical College, Morris College, Saint Leo University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Troy University and Webster University.
