Adon Olam for the Coronation Scout group go camping!

Immanuel College, together with United Synagogue and Wienerworld, announced the release of a new arrangement of Adon Olam, commissioned for the forthcoming Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. The recording features the combined talents of the Immanuel College Prep School Choir, members of Mr Levey’s Year 8 Boys’ Choir, and choirs from other Jewish schools.

Adon Olam is a hymn that has been part of the Jewish daily and Shabbat liturgy since the 15th century. The new adaptation, composed by Stephen Levey and arranged by The Portnoy Brothers, features a musician ensemble based in the Ukraine, providing all the strings and orchestration. The recording also includes the voices of 200 primary-school children from five Jewish schools in the London area, who were invited to learn the song and participate in the recording.

King Charles III has always been a stalwart personal friend to the Jewish community, and this new recording of Adon Olam is a tribute to the community’s affection for the Royal Family.

The single has been released on all streaming and download platforms, along with a video. Proceeds from the release will go to charity.

“We are thrilled to be a part of this historic recording of Adon Olam,” said Stephen Levey, Immanuel College’s Director of Music. “It is a privilege to work with such talented musicians and singers from the Jewish community, and we hope that this new adaptation will bring joy and inspiration to all who hear it.”

The 20th Finchley Scout group was delighted to hold camp over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Some 75 campers with children included Beavers, Cubs and Scouts who enjoyed an activity-packed time at the camp site. Children learnt to be responsible by packing for camp and helping set up tents, making a Scout village and preparing for meal times.

Activities included, archery, aeroball, crate stacking, fire lighting, pioneering and a group camp fire where everyone enjoyed roasting marshmallows and hot chocolate. ‘Coronation’ themed activities took place too including making lego crowns and an invitation treasure hunt. A group of Scouts took part in an expedition challenge and a presentation was made for the first ever Kings Scout award.

Camp leader Debra Morris said: “We are so pleased everyone had a fun and positive weekend making life long memories. A lot of planning was involved, we are so grateful for the help of parents, leaders and children for making it a truly wonderful camp to remember. Children enjoyed taking part in outdoor activities, forming new friendships and building on current ones. There was a special atmosphere from start to finish.”
