That gets even more challenging for those who have sensitive skin or conditions that will not take a one-size-fits-all approach. That’s when Jaime Pereira, the woman behind Glow Jar Beauty, a Canadian brand based out of Vancouver Island, enters the scene.

Who is Jaime Pereira, the human being behind Glow Jar Beauty?
I am a proud mom of two amazing girls, Mia (9) and Victoria (6). As a mother, my family is my top priority, and I love spending time with my husband and girls exploring the beautiful natural landscapes around Vancouver Island, and baking any chance I get. Professionally, I am the founder and CEO of Glow Jar Beauty, a skincare brand that I have sustainably grown over the last 6.5 years, that is focused on leading with education, community, and quality. I am so proud to have all our products Made in Canada by incredible formulation scientists, who understand my standards of an intentional ingredient list, fragrance free facial care, noticeable results, and sensitive skin safe.
How did Glow Jar Beauty start?
Glow Jar Beauty was launched as a side business when I was 8 months pregnant with my youngest daughter. While my mom was undergoing treatment for leukemia, I found that most skincare products were either too expensive, filled with unnecessary ingredients, highly fragrant, or not compatible with sensitive skin or skin conditions like my own, such as psoriasis or eczema. My natural curiosity led me on a journey to understand what ingredients are necessary in a skincare product’s formulation, and at what percentage, to achieve the desired results without causing irritation or sacrificing affordability or environmental mindfulness. Over the last 6.5+ years, I have taken many courses and become a Certified Skincare Consultant, all to better support our finished product, that women like myself can trust and afford.
What challenges do you face as a small business owner? What tips would you give to someone who is just starting?
As a small business owner, one of the biggest challenges is standing out in a crowded market. My tip for anyone starting out is to stay true to your values and your unique vision. Be patient, stay focused on your goals, and NEVER compare yourself to other brands or compromise on quality or integrity. As a mother, it’s natural to feel the pressure to excel in both your career and your family life, but it’s also essential to take care of yourself, be proud of your accomplishments, and enjoy the journey.
The beauty industry is very competitive, what makes Glow Jar Beauty different from other brands?
At Glow Jar Beauty, we lead with education first, helping women to learn their skin better, and how to apply the right products which results in an incredible change to the skin at any age. We believe in the power of biocompatible ingredients to nourish and heal the skin, as less is truly more. We also offer personalized skincare consultations to ensure that each of our customers gets the tailored support they need to achieve their skincare goals.
We are also very aware of our impact on the environment as a product-based business therefore, we take our time to innovate new products, test with our community, and work with an organization to enable the safe collection and recovery of ocean bound plastic waste. Our annual contribution supports clean environments and creates sustainable jobs in the global south. Every piece of plastic we sell, we collect so for us that is our plastic caps, lids, and PET bottles, everything is accounted for.
How did the idea to offer skin care consultation come to life?
This idea came to me during the Covid-19 when I found myself spending hours every day in my Instagram DMs, speaking with women in our community who were looking for help with finding the right targeted skincare solutions, and how and when to apply them. As a busy mom juggling many responsibilities, I understand how hard it can be to find time to prioritize daily selfcare, especially when it comes to skincare. So, in between making snacks, crafting, and taking care of my girls, I began to take courses and learn more about skin biology and how different ingredients react with the skin. I eventually created a 1:1 course that helps to educate women on their skin, how to apply products, skincare layering, skincare budgeting, and most importantly skin health. The course has transformed so many women’s lives by giving them the knowledge, confidence, and support they need to take control of their skincare routines and stop endlessly searching for the next trend. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the positive impact this service has had on our community, and I am committed to continuing to help women cut through the noise and provide personalized skincare consultations to support our customers in achieving their skin goals.
How does a skincare routine done right can impact someone’s life and confidence?
Once a client came to us with concerns about dry, dull skin and sun spots. She was 47 and, while she had already purchased several of our products, I learned that she was not layering them in a way that optimized their performance. She also did not make some necessary tweaks to her foundational skincare habits. Through our 1:1 skin consultation service, I was able to listen to her skin history and then clearly lay out a step-bystep routine for her to follow and stick with. Over time, she saw a remarkable transformation, her skin was brighter, more radiant, and the sun spots had noticeably improved. It was incredibly rewarding to see the positive impact on her confidence and overall well-being! Our point of difference is coming from a place of service over selling, answering questions and providing full clarity on how to layer products to maximize their effectiveness, as well as recommending additional steps to help achieve the desired results.
What is the process for creating each of your products right here in Canada?
At Glow Jar Beauty, we pride ourselves on our 100% made-in-Canada skin and body care products. We source our ingredients from ethical and sustainable suppliers, carefully formulate our custom formulations in small batches with our Canadian manufacturer, and package them in eco-friendly, recyclable materials. Continually monitoring Health Canada Cosmetic Regulation changes, 3rd party testing, and following GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and our relationships with our Formulators is what sets us apart as a brand. Our products are then shipped directly to our customers with care and attention to detail.
Where did the inspiration come from to create The Pineapple Body Oil, included in The Summer 2023 Jilly Box?
The inspiration for our Pineapple Body Oil came from my love of Hawaii, which I know Jillian shares, as well as the desire to create a product that could instantly transport you there, even in the middle of winter. I wanted to capture the essence of fresh pineapple in a bottle, and that’s exactly what we did with our carefully formulated blend of nourishing plant oils and a phthalatefree scent bursting with a subtle yet tropical summery aroma. It’s the perfect way to give your skin a healthy, glowing boost while indulging in a little slice of paradise. We are thrilled to have it included in The Summer 2023 Jilly Box and we hope it brings a little bit of the island life to everyone who uses it.
What is your favourite part of creating beauty products?
My favourite part of creating beauty products is hearing stories from women daily who have finally found a skincare routine that is easy to use, and boosts their confidence. Unfortunately, our society tends to view aging as something to be feared, and women especially are often bombarded with messages about the importance of looking young. I believe in celebrating and bringing more representation for women over 40+, and to help take the word aging out of the beauty industry, and simply focus on optimal skin health as we age vibrantly!
