By: Adora Bianca M. On May 14 of 2020, The Department of Education (DepEd) declared that all schools in S.Y. 2020-2021 will be having online classes or virtual learning instead of face-to-face. In this way, students will be able to continue their education without risking their safety. it can decrease the chance of spreading the virus.
Virtual learning is a replacement for a face-to-face class. Instead of going to school to study, teachers will create a meeting link exclusively for his or her students only in virtual learning. There will be an online submission for All of the school requirements. Students have shorter class time than usual. It is to decrease the student's exposure to gadgets so that their eyes will not get damaged too much.
Photo taken orom the Oooicial FB page oo St. Joseph School
Not all the students and parents agreed to this new way of learning. Because not everyone has access to the internet to cope up with this virtual learning. Internet is not the only problem in this situation, gadgets that will be used are also a problem. Because it requires at least a mobile phone or any technological material for you to be able to attend an online class.
So many adjustments were needed that made the virtual learning way harder than anyone else thought it would be. Gladly, parents and students have two options for this virtual learning. It is either virtual learning classes or modular. In virtual learning, students have a specific time and day to attend an online class. On the other hand, modular does not require the student to enter an online class. But the student must answer his or her module and submit it on time online. Virtual Learning is not easy for everyone. It requires a lot of adjustments. And because of that, both teachers and students are having difficulty coping with this system. But it is the only way to continue the education of every student without risking their safety.
By: Antenor Alexandra Serrano Public masses are suspended in countless parts of the Philippines as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. St. Joseph Catholic School indicated that by watching a live broadcast held on the St. Joseph Official Page while making spiritual contact from home, catholic students and teachers will increase the benefit of personal prayer. According to CNS Manila Philippines, new orders were issued by the Philippine government restricting movement to monitor the COVID-19 outburst, resulting in mass suspension in 10 dioceses. The public festival of the masses was also voluntarily suspended by provinces.

By: Honey Claude Llamelo Numerous schools offer scholarships for their students, and of course, our school has one too. Schools commonly offer scholarships exclusively for more gifted students. On the other hand, some schools like St. Joseph School offers scholarships for the more unprivileged students who may have trouble paying for the expenses of a stereotypical private school. “BUHAY”(Building Up a Holistic life Among the Youth) scholarship program is conducted by St. Joseph School of Gagalangin. This scholarship program intends to help the incoming grade 11 students with their financial and educational needs particularly the less fortunate, the scholars are mostly students that spent their junior years in a public school. The school will gather funds within one school year from generous sponsors, alumni, close friends, parents, and students so the school can lessen the cost of a scholar's educational and financial needs for the following school year. Photo Taken from the official FB Page of St. Joseph
Besides the BUHAY scholarship program, our school also offers scholarships for more gifted students. Those who meet the specific grades or rank in their class will receive a discount for their tuition fee. Being the highest-ranked in the grade level will acquire a 100% percent discount on their tuition fee, which means they only have to pay for miscellaneous and other fees further into the school year. In conclusion to this article, St. Joseph School offers good, if not, the best deals in scholarships and discounts. Our school provides discounts and scholarships applicable to almost everyone in different situations. Both gifted and not gifted, privileged and not privileged. Therefore, St. Joseph School is a great choice to enroll your child, especially if you are looking for a school with excellent catholic education at a considerable price.

Chelsea Dominique C. Aguilar nhe Novel Coronavirus which is also known as COVID-19 is a contagious disease that can transmit from one individual to another through respiratory droplets, direct contact with an infected person, or by contaminated objects and surfaces. nhe first case was identified last December 2019 in Wuhan, China, and is now spreading across the world, leading to a global pandemic. nhis disease has different effects on each person. nhe most common symptoms are fever or chills, dry cough, and the loss of the ability to taste and smell. While the most severe are shortness of breath and chest pains. nhese symptoms usually begin 2 to 14 days after being exposed to the virus. Although each age group is at risk of catching the virus, older people as well as the ones who have underlying illnesses such as heart or lung abnormalities are much more prone to catching the virus. Unfortunately, human life is not the only loss the world is suffering through. nhe drastic change caused by the pandemic made humans adjust to a “new normal.” nravel restrictions, shutting down of schools, colleges, as well as public places such as malls are carried out throughout the country. Moreover, the implementation of stay-at-home protocols, particularly the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) and lockdowns in different regions of the country caused the shutdown of different companies and businesses, leading to the displacement of thousands of Filipino workers. Although these protocols are being carried out, it is still important for each individual to take matters into their own hands and take precautionary measures to keep themselves safe as well as the people around them. For instance, staying at home and following the rules given by the government is the most effective way to keep yourself secure from the virus. Moreover, wearing a mask when going outside and washing one’s hands regularly is a must as well as maintaining a safe distance from others. And lastly, remember to always spread positivity in this
On January 29 of 2021, the Student Coordinating Body (SCB), together with the Parents’ Coordinating Body (PCB) organized a virtual program for the staff of St. Joseph School in celebrating the annual Personnels' Day and Catholic Teachers' Day with the theme, "Rising to be Gifted, Shining as to Give." It is a celebration dedicated to commemorating their professionalism and perseverance to teach students, especially during a global phenomenon, the COVID-19 pandemic.
This event gave the personnel a chance to unwind and celebrate the fruit of their labor. The SCB prepared a simple program for them to participate in. The event started with a prayer that was led by Qelcy Angelic Maze Rufo and is followed with a heartfelt message from the school director, Rev. Fr. Nolan A. Que as well as Rev. Fr. Nicanor Celiano Jr. Thrilling games were arranged as well as entertaining performances from selected students namely Nicia Lambas, Kurt Danielle Cunanan, and Althea Tomines. Finally, The PCB organized a simple raffle as a token of appreciation shown through gifts. They wrapped up the successful event with a short message given by the SCB’s President, Sophia Bianca Habana, and ended with a short prayer from Honey Claude Llamelo.
Adora Bianca M. Roxas Last December 16, 2020, Wednesday, the teachers and students of St. Joseph School held a Christmas Party online. This was organized mostly by the advisers and class officers with the special cooperation of the rest of the students of every class. This is an early celebration to commemorate the spirit of joy, happiness, and gladness that we feel every Christmas. The class officers of Grade 8 - St. Catherine of Laboure prepared a video presentation where all the memories they have accumulated from their previous Christmas parties were compiled. Meanwhile, the class officers of Grade 10 - St. Augustine of Hippo together with their adviser Mr. Jhune Cortez, prepared one PowerPoint presentation. These visual props are presented while their respective parties are ongoing. The Grade 10 - St. Augustine of Hippo also had games like Tawag ng Tanghalan, Karaoke, Tanong mo mukha mo and Read my lips.
"My experience with this online Christmas party is enjoyable even though we saw each other virtually. Our adviser prepared something for us to enjoy like playing online games with our classmates and plus points for our exams” This is according to Jamie Liza Poso who is a student from Grade 11 ABM, Our Lady of Manaoag. She also said that even though the games and the party itself were done virtually, it was a fun and enjoyable experience for her. On the other hand, for Shyne Claire Loreto, a student from Grade 10 St. Francis De Sales, even though the party was only virtual it was still entertaining. She added that stress is reduced and it gave her a chance to unwind even for a short time only. Even though their party was simple, she still felt the spirit of Christmas. And for her, that was enough.
According to the survey I conducted, almost all students preferred the Christmas Party back then. For Joedith Sibanta a student from Grade 10 St. Francis De Sales, the Christmas party back then was much better because it gave them the chance to be creative in decorating their respective classrooms, play different games, gives some prizes, eats the prepared foods, exchange gifts, initiates open forums, takes pictures with friends or teachers, and hear the loud music coming out from their speakers. Overall, it was a successful event for the students and teachers. It proved that the true meaning of Christmas is not just about meeting personally and interacting physically. It doesn't matter how far you are from each other. Because, the true meaning of Christmas is all about forgiveness, joy, and acceptance. Calvin Coolidge once said "Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas." After this successful Christmas party, students will have a Christmas break. This is for them to commemorate Christmas as well as the joy and peace it brings, but this time, with their loved ones.
The two grade 9 advisers, Ms. Winnie Bernabe and Mr. Hanz Maestro, did their best to make their students enjoy the party. According to them, there was a Mobile Legends and Call of Duty Tournament, Intermission Number, and other games that made the said party more fun. They did not let this pandemic affect their party even if it was only virtual. Ms. Winnie Bernabe also added that, in fact, she, herself is happy because she saw the excitement plastered on the faces of
Sofia Cabungcal "Luh bakit ako?" That was my remark when our school newspaper adviser announced my name as the school year's Editor-inChieo. Although I was already expecting it, it still hits diooerently when oormally announced. When it sunk in, I celebrated it inside this mind oo mine while thinking oo ways to prepare myselo oor the responsibilities it will later give me. Like a ship that's set to sail, our organization has to begin its business. As opposed to the usual face-to-face setup, this year's learning mode is done online which made participating in an organization a different scenario. Everyone was uncertain of which steps to take. I was also reluctant to completely take over the organization. I was waiting for updates and orders from our adviser. I was waiting for a set-up to be provided. Nangangapa palang kasi ako. Until I oigured that I was waiting oor nothing but myselo. I reminded myselo that io there's someone who's got to step out, it would be me. A ship won't sail without a pilot who maneuvers it. With all uneasiness, I proceeded to handle the organization. The emergence of the official Facebook page of The Josephian Diadem made a major difference from the previous school years. Now, the exposure of our organization is not only limited to Josephians, but also to the netizens. Unlike the other newspaper organizations that established an official page, we’re not famous. We didn’t win as many awards as others. We didn’t achieve as great as others. We have a name, but we don’t have a history. We may not be as prominent as others but we will soon be. It's only a matter of improving over time. Popularity, awards, and history are pointers to indicate an organization's success but all that wouldn’t be possible without first immersing in determination and consistency. This ship that I'm steering may be flawed and slow-paced but I'm sure it would reach its respective destination. It's nonsensical to talk about a ship and a pilot without its crew. Our organization consists of 23 members. It took me a while to find out what kind of leadership style would they collaborate with the best but when I got their kiliti, it got harmonious. In every assigned task I give them, they accomplish it with genuine eooorts while beating the scheduled deadline. Being an Editor-in-Chief during a pandemic is surprisingly a doable task. It was a nerve-wracking experience but it also kept me sane. The Heads and Editors, my co-captains, drove this ship with me. They are my best mates who made my poor driving skills better. We wanted to hold on to our promise of purpose against our common enemy named Corona. We wanted to prove that even with all the restrictions, The Josephian Diadem is here, progressing and improving. It was a swift voyage. For a second there I was only giving friendly reminders and hosting meetings. In the blink of an eye, it was all chaotic; I was already topping off everything, editing articles, and making final notions. All the struggles and bitterness were left unnoticed. The main focus is on the approaching land, the publication of the newspaper.

Sofia Cabungcal Rape is perturbing but sadly, an unsurprising crime in the Philippines. From March until August 2020, 3,016 rape cases were reported nationwide by the Philippine National Police (PNP). That’s an average of 18 rapes a day. It is a century-old issue yet the confusion on who should be held accountable for the crime is still present today. Despite the crime’s frequency, people continue to point fingers at the victims implying that it is their personal responsibility to distance themselves from provocative circumstances that could lead to rape. Some of these many provocative circumstances include the place where they went, the clothes that they wore, and the substances that they consumed. People usually ask rape victims, “Saan ka ba kasi nagpunta?” “Bakit ka kasi sumama sakanila?” They are suggesting that the place aooects the occurrence oo the crime.
According to studies, a person is incapable oo making reasonable decisions under the eooect oo alcohol and drugs. Moreover, there are reports oo rape cases that do not involve alcohol and drug consumption. People can rape and get raped in whatever state oo mind they are in.
On contrary, one’s presence in a bar, in a dark conoined space, or with a group oo other associates does not imply that they are hailing oor rape. Io people were to suggest that the presence oo mostly hidden places triggers rape, then why are there cases oo marital rape that happens at home and custodial rape that happens at public state institutions? Rape can happen anywhere.
Rape is perturbing but sadly, an unsurprising crime in the Philippines. Everyone is vulnerable to be rape victims regardless oo where they went, what they wore, and what they consumed. It is not the provocative circumstances that initiate rape but the rapist’s mindset to control, oorce, and abuse. Anyone can be a rape victim. As long as there are rapists, there is rape.
“Ano ba kasing sinuot mo?” “’Ang iksi kasi ng short mo.” Society suggests that people, especially women, who wear revealing clothes are most likely to get raped. However, anyone’s choice of clothing depends majorly on one’s matter of preference. If people were to imply that revealing clothes provokes the occurrence of rape, then what about the rape case in Palawan wherein the corpse of an 84-year-old grandmother, fully and conservatively dressed, was raped in her own grave? Rape can happen regardless of what you’re wearing. “Malamang kasi lasing ka!” “Bakit kasi hindi ka lumaban?” People blame victims for consuming alcoholic drinks as if it would not occur if they did not. If a person is drunk or drugged, the more reason not to take advantage of them. It should not be perceived as an opportunity for an unrestrained libido.
The worst part is because oo rape victim blaming, a lot oo the victims choose to stay silent and reouse to seek help. Keep in mind that every time you blame a victim, another victim keeps silent because oo you. So instead oo teaching humankind how to act, teach them not to rape.
You could argue that it is natural to project onto others one's sexual attraction and to oantasize about how someone might meet those desires and needs. However, satisoying the libido oo a human body is never a valid reason to peroorm a rape. The normality oo the sexual attraction does not excuse anyone oo their unlawoul acts. A great option to resolve the urge oo sexual attraction is through selo-control.
Franscine Althea B. Longanilla The Philippines is known to have a democratic government, wherein every citizen has the right to express their opinions and voice out their truths about the issue at hand. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are forced to stay at home which makes us uninformed about the situation outside our homes. The only way to bridge the gap between ignorance and truth is through the use of news, media, and the press. But what should we do when our press is being silenced during the time where credible information is needed the most? Officials who are seated on the throne of power continue to mask out the truth by attacking the media because they only want to hear what they want to hear and disregard the ones that might damage their reputations. During the early days of the pandemic, we can see numerous articles, news, and trends from people on different social media platforms that tackle Press Freedom. One of the most controversial and largest issues that happened during the pandemic is the threat to the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN, the largest network in the country. President Duterte effectively shut down the network on May 5, 2020, amid the crisis experienced by our country, just when a pandemic has made information an essential commodity. Apparently, our media suffered from numerous issues while trying to deliver news and information to the citizens, they’ve used stricter regulation on news organizations by intimidation, surveillance, red-tagging, and other tactics.
Let us put an end to the Philippines government's deadly practice of red-tagging, which involves identifying organizations or individuals that are considered to be critical of the government as "communists" or "terrorists." It is horrendous that people are being threatened, harassed, and silenced just because they chose to be vocal about their opinions and criticisms towards the government. These scenarios underline that we must write and express the truth whatever the consequence may be. It is our duty as Filipinos to uphold and protect our freedom of expression at all costs. To sum up this article, Jee Y. Geronimo, a journalist from Rappler once said: "Let us all stand as one: when freedom falls to tyranny, when the truth is twisted to be a tool for political hegemony, when democracy crumbles under complicity, this is the time to speak truth to power. This is the time to unite against the subversion of the common good." Always keep in mind to use your voice for the greater good, this is the time to speak truth to power.
Face-to-Face Classes for Upcoming Senior High School Next School Year Franscine Althea B. Longanilla It has been a year since the Covid-19 has been spreading in our country, soon enough it became a pandemic that causes a large impact on how all people live. As we all know, one of the sectors that have been greatly affected by the pandemic is education. Public measures such as lockdown and social distancing are needed to at least prevent more cases of coronavirus, the Department of Education (DepEd) makes sure that learning remains unhampered, so they have implemented online classes as an alternative learning method for this school year. The transition to an online mode of learning has been challenging for many students, we’ve all had to change and adjust rapidly to this new system just to cope up with the “new normal” but the real question is, are we really learning during pandemic through online classes? Online education is an unprecedented challenge for students, teachers, and parents. Since the beginning, numerous issues arose regarding the new learning setup mainly because it is not for everyone. The first obstacle we’ve faced is the adaptation to the new platform, despite the fact that online learning is only a formality and not a replacement for the traditional face-to-face classes, we still have to adjust because based on the situation of our country right now, we can say that it might take a while before we go back to the traditional classes. Students are forced to the concept of “figure it yourself” as a result, some of the lessons and lectures discussed by the teacher are not being absorbed by students through this method due to several factors such as unstable internet connection, distraction, and lack of communication 1and social engagement among learners. During the first weeks of online classes implementation, students are protesting for #AcademicFreeze on different social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook because according to them, online classes are not effective, it only causes extra stress and anxiety. At first, we thought that this new learning setup would be easier for us, but as soon as it started, students got more assignments and modules to pass in a short amount of time but with less motivation. Students merely complete their tasks to earn credit for a good grade, rather than actually engaging with the new curriculum. Finding motivation to continue and strive harder despite the current situation is really tough. We sometimes fail to comply with the tremendous workload given to us since the environment at home is completely different from the classroom setup we have at school. A classroom gives us a healthy learning environment to study, while a household can be noisy, causing students to lose attention or not work at all. Though online classes seem hard at first, but it also has its perks like the accessibility of time and places wherein students can now attend classes wherever they are, online classes also implemented a flexible schedule for students wherein they can work at their own pace, it also gives us the opportunity to hone and practice self-discipline, responsibility, and time-management skills.
Online classes journey has been one heck of a ride, but I am certain that this kind of setup is not for everyone, we are hoping to spend the majority of our school days in a traditional classroom but for the safety of everyone, let us stand tall and hope that we’ll get through this together. It is clear that everyone is affected by this pandemic and everybody must work together to overcome it. It is very important to remember that we must not allow this situation to jeopardize the quality of education because our country's future rests in the hands of today's learners. Our country is completely unprepared for this sudden change in the education system, though this new learning setup gives us an alternative for our current situation, let us remember that new is not always better.
Adora Bianca M. Roxas On February 9, 2021, The Department of Education (DepEd) released a statement that the upcoming senior high school students are the firsts to take the face-to-face classes for the school year 2021-2022. According to DepEd, the final decision still lies within the government’s hands. Once it’s approved, each student will have a specified day-time schedule of going to school for the purpose of avoiding crowdedness. As stated by the DepEd, to implement the face-to-face setup is to strictly abide by the safety protocols such as wearing a facemask, wearing a face shield, and observing social and physical distance. That particular statement gained varying reactions, especially from the upcoming senior high school students. Some students agree with the institution of face-to-face classes because it widens their learning field, gives a chance to see their friends, and it takes them back to the “normal.” However, some students think that it's an unsatisfactory idea because it will expose them to a threatening environment outside their homes. In addition to that, not all students can go to school due to the varying quarantine statuses of areas under the order of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF). Areas that are under the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) status prohibits students aged 18 and under to be outside their homes. Lastly, the transportation that the students will use to get to schools may cause conflicts; sometimes public transport is allowed and sometimes it is not. The parents of the upcoming senior high school students also voiced their opinions regarding their child’s welfare. Some parents agree with the proposed setup because they saw how difficult it was for their children to learn in an online setup with all of its complexities. However, some parents perceived this as an unaccepting proposal because their children’s safety is the top priority. "Sa mismong bahay nga po ay wala kaming makain, ano nalang po yung ipapabaon kong pagkain at pera sa mga anak namin?” This is just one oo the many grievances oo parents. During this pandemic, people lost their jobs and many struggled to oind sustenance oor their daily expenses. So how can they support their children oor school io they don't have anything to eat at home? "Handa na ba ang mga eskwelahan para sa face-to-face classes?” "Nasisiguro ba na mapapatupad ng maayos ng mga eskwelahan ang mga safety protocols?” Those are just some oo the questions oo the students and parents. They said there was no guarantee oo the saoety oo students in oace-to-oace classes. Because what io the students are careoul and the school itselo is not? And what io the school is careoul but the students are not? It will risk not only the lives oo the students and school personnels but also the people around them, especially their oamilies. The overall factors that contributed to the opinions of the mass are safety and practicality. Some people choose practicality over safety while some choose safety over practicality. Jean-Bertrand Aristide once said, "Of course, learning is strengthened and solidified when it occurs in a safe, secure, and normal environment.” This quotation implies that education without safety is nothing but safety without education is also pointless. There should always be a balance of both. So let's choose a decision in which either of the two will not be put in jeopardy.
Katrina Mae B. Cruz According to The 1987 Constitution of The Republic of the Philippines - Article XIV Section 5, education is the government’s priority above all the other aspects of the system. For the academic year 2020-2021, the Department of Education (DepEd) dealt with the conflict of insisting education amidst a pandemic by instilling online classes as an alternative to face-to-face classes. However, it became a major problem in our country because numerous students opted to stop to live and to save financial expenses. After this school year, the Department of Education is planning to have limited face-to-face classes to fully understand lessons but, is it safe to have limited face-to-face classes? Which is a better set-up; limited face-to-face classes or online classes? For students who struggle in fast-paced lessons, having an online class can be more efficient because YouTube lesson videos are rampant since the online setup. There are online tools that help to provide more creativity and harmony in online classes. One can easily attend these classes because it only requires students to find a comfortable location for better focus, a stable network reception area for smooth discussions, and wearing earphones to avoid distractions. Lectures by your teachers can be recorded so that one may use it for future reference. An online class can be affordable for some because it reduces financial fees in the school. On the other hand, online classes also have their cons. It can be more expensive because some can’t purchase gadgets in the surge of this pandemic. Also, some situations cause students to be dishonest, disoriented and unfocused in this particular setup: Students are free to chat with their friends, families, and classmates while classes are ongoing; Students are also free to search for answers in the web while a recitation or an exam is ongoing; Students experience misunderstandings with their teachers due to an unstable connection and other technical difficulties. Those are only some of the disadvantages of an online class setup.
DepEd insisted that the limited face-to-face classes setup will only be implemented in low-risk areas with utmost observance of the health and safety protocols. It will also require a requisite permit by the students’ parents. The proposal of limited face-to-face classes cannot assure your child’s safety. As we face this pandemic, the number of people who have been infected is still rising and the limited face-to-face setup brings the threat of the virus closer to the students. On the bright side, the students may be able to fully concentrate in the face-to-face set up and they can gain a better understanding of their lessons compared to the online setup. As young students, it is better to have online classes for now because it assures our safety. It may be difficult at first, but we should endure it until this pandemic has come to an end. Online classes are efficient because of the online tools that can help with our studies and it can make our school work easier. Our schedules are flexible, and you can do whatever you want after classes. It also taught us that if you are an introvert, you can show what you can do in classes because online classes reduce the intimidation that students feel when speaking up in class. Elizabeth Warren once said, “A good education is a foundation for a better future.” The most important thing for the students is that they have attained education despite a devastating situation. People always have different opinions, but the final decision still lies within you.
Chelsea Dominique C. Aguilar It's not a surprise that most women are victims of problematic men who have a disgusting belief system that women of all races and sexual orientations are less capable than men, called sexism. But there is also a much more horrifying term called misogyny. Misogyny takes a sexist's perspective and acts on them in a demeaning way. An example of this is when a woman does a better job than a man, they will use a series of stereotypical and offensive insults to define the woman. nhese situations are appalling to a fault, making a person believe that women should empower each other to avoid these occurrences. But unfortunately, that is not the case for some of the females out there. Women tend to judge each other. Sometimes it can be harmless, and sometimes it comes to a point where they obsessively degrade each other. nhere are also cases wherein they will see another woman on social media and subconsciously judge their own appearance because of their insecurities; this is called “internalized misogyny.” Internalized misogyny is not only seen through women purposely showing hatred to one another but also to themselves. When you are a woman and you bring yourself down, you are showing internalized misogyny.
One of the most common examples of internalized misogyny are the words, “I’m not like other girls.” It might seem like a harmless phrase that qomen use, but it somehoq .aters the unrealisti. idea of men toqards girls. When they proudly .laim this, they are implying that they are against feminine stereotypes su.h as makeup, fashion, and even the .olor pink, sin.e they believe that it is too “soft” and “feminine” for their liking. Another toxic behavior of some women is when they continuously preach on women empowerment, and calls themselves a feminist but actively participates in “lait .ulture.” It is qhen they see a qoman, qhether online or in real life, they qill privately .omment on even the tiniest detail about them. For instan.e, qhen they see a qoman qearing a pie.e of .lothing that shoqs more skin than usual, they qill use .ondes.ending qords to des.ribe that person simply be.ause it is “unladylike.” They either use this .on.ept as a qay to proje.t their oqn inse.urities onto others but most of the time, it is be.ause of something out of their .ontrol. Continue to Page 10
Continued from Page 9 For the most part, it is not the women's fault they have this preconceived mindset. Society made it a habit to tear down thriving women, especially when they do not fit their criteria of femininity. And as other women grow up, they are also influenced by these toxic behaviors. They are taught to see their peers as a competition; instead of helping each other to succeed. What is worse is that most of them aren’t even aware that what they’re projecting is extremely damaging to others and themselves. To simplify, women are blinded by society’s gender norms and sexist beliefs to see that they, too, are giving in to this disgusting precedent. Internalized misogyny is such a complicated topic. Which is why, at times, it is difficult to blame a woman for something that became a consequence of decades of the patriarchal structure of the world. But fortunately, as time evolved, women are now given the chance to change this; They can now educate themselves on a matter that very much exists even in the modern times. Uplifting yourself as a woman as well as others is a great first step. Furthermore, letting other people express themselves and what they’re passionate about without voicing your opinions is also a way of promoting feminism. Women back then weren’t given the chance to do what most women can do now. Which is why they must cherish this opportunity, and be a part of the positive change and stand together to fight for equality and respect that they deserve.

“Happy Lockdown Anniversary!”

Mariebethei Roussamiere Miranda After years of teaching in St. Joseph School of Gagalangin, one teacher have already spread her wings and fly to the heavens above, leaving all the great things she has done to her students and families. Late English teacher, Ms. Ruby R. Elec, simply known as “Ms. Elec” to her students, has passed away on the 18th of March 2021. It was a surprising and heartbreaking moment to all students and admins to receive the news of her death, for she has taught copious amounts of knowledge to every one she handled throughout her years in education. Knowing her, she was very fond of pink colors which she used to wear all the time, especially in eventful occasions. She also has this charming and soothing voice that makes you try to fight against falling asleep as it eases your mind in everything. Thus, helps you to relax like a baby hearing the lullaby of its mother. Her love for music became one of the most memorable moments her students had along with her, even in the middle of pandemic when online classes were executed. Another fact about her, if you become one of her secretaries in class, you would definitely have this great connection with her. Sometimes you feel likely to complain all the time due to numerous tasks she gives to you. But as time goes by, everything just becomes normal and you feel happy about it. Because the two of you would share a bond with each other and learn great things with her in the course of finishing your secretarial duties.
The last thing that makes every moment with her the most special is when she starts laughing. She could have easily break her student record or her table at her front whenever she cannot stop her excitement. “When you laugh, everything just becomes so easy for you to move your feet again.” She stated, which will forever be remembered by every student she handled. Great bonds with someone are hard to get over with it. However, when you smile and remember the memories that you will forever treasure, the one involved with it receives the sign for her parting and feel the contentment of her accomplishments. This, her teachings and wisdom will forever be remembered and continue to flow within everyone.

Throughout the history of Philippine activism, it has always been the youth who have the power to bring out the consciousness of the Filipinos. They lead everyone to a path where independence and democracy for the people are properly implemented. With this kind of leadership that the youth have, there will be more things that would continue to make a better future for the citizens of the Philippines. Activism in the Philippines have started since the Spanish Colonial Era wherein Spain implemented an education system (which was controlled by the Church) and is only convenient for wealthy classes of Filipinos. The Filipinos who have traveled to Europe for education are called the Ilustrado class by which were victims of racism as students. This has sparked activism around the 1860s which was lead by Jose Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines. Together with the other heroes: Marcelo H. Del Pilar and Mariano Ponce – they have created an organization called the La Solidaridad and published an issue paper, providing awareness to the Filipinos about their identity and the oppression of the colonizers. The Propaganda movement by these heroes has become successful and made the Filipinos fight as one against the colonizers. After the execution of Jose Rizal, Katipunan was established with the governance of Andres Bonifacio, another hero of the Philippines. It is composed of mostly youth, who have continued the revolution against the colonizers with the use of weapons. However, as Andres Bonifacio passed away, the first president of the Philippines, Emilio Aguinaldo, continued the movement but failed as the US colonization moved. This resulted in making deals with the US army and even sold the Philippines to them under the Treaty of Paris. Yet even with these events, youth activism continued and even built greater power. Around the 1960s, in the leadership of the late president of the Philippines after being re-elected, Ferdinand Marcos brought disappointment to the Filipinos. With the continuous corruption of government, mass student organizations have moved to strike the Marcos regime out of the leadership in the country. With the gruesome challenges that many of the youth have experienced, reaching for freedom did not stop until the Marcoses were ousted by the People’s Power Revolution and fled to Hawaii. The Philippines then announced that the new president was Corazon Aquino. In today’s activism, youth have never stopped opening their eyes and mind to the happenings in the Philippines. Due to the negligence that is currently happening with the government, social media have become the main platform for youth activism even if the country is under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ). This helps to provide and spread faster information about the administration of the government. With the power that the youth have, activism will never be erased. Without activism, one will fall apart and will never achieve the justice and equity that every citizen deserved. When one leads beyond the boundary of the people’s needs, the mass will move to disseminate that power and bring out what is best for everyone.

Being a student leader means that a student takes an active role in their education and develops positive skills in the process. The goal of inspiring student leaders is to create a culture of ownership, collaboration, and community in the classroom or on the campus. Without student leaders, who will take the lead to voice out the needs of every student? Giving students ownership of their education and true responsibility helps build accountable and confident individuals. It also provides them with marketable skills that they can apply to future endeavors. Student leadership in the classroom and school leaders can help students develop skills they might not have otherwise had the opportunity to grow.

The best way to include people is to build habits of being inclusive in students. That is the kind of leadership that everyone is looking for. Cultivating a passion in students is a great way to bring out their innate leadership qualities. Project-Based on Learning activities should be meaningful to the students and the community, so classes can see the true effects of their hard work. The best way to spark students’ belief in themselves is by giving them the opportunity to do projects of worth. When a student can be successful in smaller projects and see impacts, they will be able to proceed to larger projects of their own. The right project is the key to unlocking what students have and what makes them be a leader of their own. Student leadership development helps create skills and experiences that the students can carry over to adulthood. Educators must also adapt their teaching to bring out the best in their students and help them learn through meaningful work. This helps build true student leadership qualities that will benefit the students for voicing out their needs and explore the essence of leading for the best.

It has never been a secret that we’re all obsessed with pore-less, wrinkle-less, pimple-less—basically smooth and soft as a baby’s butt skin. From twitter threads explaining skin care products to youtube videos made by professional dermatologists themselves, we consume everything we can just to get that perfect glass skin. Clear, poreless skin has always been a standard of beauty even back in the days before the internet and the rise of beauty gurus, as seen on vintage beauty ads for Seventeen cosmetics, Max Factor, and Chanel’s teint creme. Our fondness for skin care has not changed either with Pond’s 1910 ad for their vanishing creams, Avon’s 1960 ad for their astringent and cleansing cream, and even a 1970’s influencer skincare brand by actress Marie Osmond. naking notes from east Asian skin care routines, it does not matter if you are aiming for that Glossier model like skin or figuring out how to keep your face free from dirt after hours of being covered with heavy make-up, it is always good to start with a good cleanser. A popular choice as of late is the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser—it is cheap, accessible, and actually works!—and if you have just a little bit of money then definitely get the Milky Jelly Cleanser from everyone’s favorite glass skin brand, Glossier. If you have a skin prone to breakouts then give the Biossance Squalane + nea nree Cleansing Gel. A secret just waiting to blow up is the Nu Essence Shiro Horseoil soap, it’s a little expensive but it actually works. Don’t tell anyone I gave you the skincare holy grail. nhough not necessary but present in popular skin care routines, finding a perfect exfoliator that is not only gentle but actually does the job can be quite tricky. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, exfoliation can leave your skin looking brighter and improve the effectiveness of topical skin care products by enhancing absorption. Regular exfoliation can also help prevent clogged pores, resulting in fewer breakouts. nhe Dear Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish in Watsons is a classic exfoliator for normal skin types, though most might get wary of the sugar and texture. nhe internet’s favorite skin care brand, nhe Ordinary’s AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution works for all skin types and is only Php 700 on Beautymnl. After you’ve washed your face, it’s important to never wipe your face, only pat it down gently with a towel. nhe best way to describe it is imagine your face is a wet paper towel, rubbing it and wiping it can cause your skin to break and get irritated. A product that we’ve already probably tried and have is a toner. After washing your face, toners remove any remaining dirt, grime, and impurities trapped in your pores. It can have a huge effect on the appearance and tightness of your pores when applied to your everyday skincare routine and used on a regular basis. which are making it ideal to naturally soothe, cleanse, and tone your skin. For those on a budget, Nivea’s Face Extra White Repair noner is a great pick. nhe Face Republic’s AHA/BHA toner is one of the more popular toners, a holy grail in most people’s lists. nhe nhayers Lavender Witch Hazel noner meanwhile is one of the best natural products, it contains certified organic and non-distilled Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera formula
Next up is something even our mothers nag us about— moisturizing! Moisturizing is an essential part of thewordpress.com skincare routine. It hydrates your skin, making it appear safe and supple on the surface while still preserving the health of your skin's protective barrier over time. Irritation, redness, and increased sensitivity are all problems that can be avoided when doing so. Nivea Creme moisturizer has been a staple in many routines and it’s only Php 279 on Beautymnl, it works great as a night cream. Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer is one of the best products for people with sensitive skin, it contains SPF 15 and is gentle on your face, and it also provides decent protection from the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays. Nature Republic’s Aloe Vera 92% Soothing Gel is perfect if you have combination skin, dealing with acne and dry skin at the same time is a whole new degree of difficulty. If you’ve ever had the (dis)pleasure of using twitter, you’ve probably seen a lot of people talk about how drinking water clears up your skin and it actually does! Drinking 4 bottles of water a day partnered with a healthy diet and your body will definitely thank you. Change your pillowcase regularly too, it can cause acne mechanica and absorb lots of oil and dirt. Imagine what could stick to your face nightly, definite no-no! Speaking of sleep, catch up on those Zs, love. Acne can flare up when you aren't getting enough sleep. In fact, sleep deprivation is considered one of the three main acne triggers, along with stress and sweating. If you wear make-up regularly and are prone to breakouts, definitely reconsider the products you’re putting on your face. Check if what you're using is oil-free or non-comedogenic. Always wash your hands before and after applying make-up and always wash your brushes and sponges on a weekly basis, ladies! Here’s your reminder to remove your make-up before you sleep, give your skin some space to breathe. Pay attention to what you put on your face, such as cleansers, moisturizers, and lipstick, as well as what you don't, such as bacteria from your fingers or dirty brushes and sponges, if you want clear skin. Regardless of all of this, this is your daily reminder that you’re absolutely gorgeous, your acne and all. Your body is unpredictable and even people with the most beautiful of skin will tell

Start by preparing your meals. Home cooks are one of the most recommended ways of keeping a healthy diet. Unlike eating in fast-food restaurants, cooking more meals at home is healthier. It is easier to watch the calories you are taking in, and you have more control over the ingredients. Reading the labels of what you’re eating. It is essential to be aware of what’s in your food. Manufacturers frequently hide large amounts of unhealthy fats in their products. Drink plenty of water. It is 100% calorie-free. It also prevents us from dehydration; which can lead to any form of health problem. Water is a crucial part of all body functions and processes, including digestion and elimination. It also acts as a weight loss aid and suppresses your appetite. Limit snack foods at home. Cooking home meals is advisable but be careful about the foods you keep at hand. It’s challenging to eat healthy if you have unhealthy snacks or junk foods. Surround yourself with healthy options. As stated in the nutrition source of Harvard School of Public Health, choosing foods containing healthy fats, plant oils, nuts and fish are the best choices. Paying attention to the protein package is important. Try choosing good carbohydrates like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Choose water to other sugary beverages and avoid highly processed foods. Take your time. Slowly but surely. It is essential to slow down and do not take things too rush. Think about food as sustenance. Remember that health is wealth. Take care of it. Eating healthy foods can make you feel even better. When the time comes, do not forget to reward yourself.

In some Philippine folktales, it is believed that when swarms of fireflies visit a tree or a place, it is guarded by the otherworldly beings like engkantos and such. This belief is passed from generations by generations, stating that the fireflies are the servants of the mythical creatures. However, in this generation of men, local citizens in some provinces have stated that lights from the fireflies slowly disappear in the dark, knowingly that the engkantos are already dying and so are their servants. This is a very serious matter, especially for the environment's health. Local citizens in the provinces of the Philippines believed that a place guarded by the engkantos and its servants was never a bad fortune.
In the provinces of the Philippines, there are actual places that tourists marvel often at night to watch tiny bits of light cover the dark. These lights that the fireflies produce are chemical reactions inside their bodies known as bioluminescence – for them to attract their suitable mates. But as time passes by, thousands of artificial lights have gone their way all around the world, which interferes with the fireflies’ courtship and could also make them die. These artificial lights include the streetlights, LED lights, commercial lights and many more. Scientists also use the population of the fireflies in some mangroves or rivers to observe the health of the ecosystem. But in line with this, they have concluded that the majority of the rivers and some forestry places gradually weakens and dies due to having a small population of the fireflies lurking around. Fireflies are another good result to observe if an ecosystem is dying or if it is still healthy since they are very sensitive to the changes of the environment. With this serious situation, it would lead to the dying of the environment if this will not be taken care of well. The lights of the fireflies are not the only key for the spreading darkness. But they are the key indicators of the environment’s health for they are very sensitive to the changes in their surroundings. They should be protected, not replaced.

We travel into a lot of hardships, A betrayal inside our friendships, Failed and manipulative relationships, But we are still happy regardless. Our section is my comfort zone. Each name was tattooed inside my bone. When I’m with you, I’ll never feel alone, Thank you for sharing your cologne. It’s weird to struggle while having fun, I can still laugh while I run. I was at peace while being chaotic, Even I feel puzzled in the class robotic.

I was too attached, And in love with how our advisers describe us. We’re one of the best sections that they ever had. I will never forget that. I may sound dramatic, But it was worth it to be with you in Junior High School. I hope that it’s not too late to realize, How lucky I am to have you in my life. We may lack in money, And asked for a discount, Never feel shy about it, ‘Cause, we are still filled with knowledge and happiness. I was the happiest when I’m in our classroom, But was the loneliest when I got home. So, thank you for making me feel comfortable. I may not be the best classmate that you’ll ever have, Still, our batch is the coolest one. And now that everything has changed, We are unable to touch each other like we used to, But we can cope up on the screen, Using google meet. Signing off, Student of Batch 2017-2021 .

LAYNE It was a roller coaster ride to be with you, But you’re the only one that was true. Whenever I feel blue, You’re always motivating me to shine through. We have a huge difference, Believe me, you really are a good influence. I’m willing to take a risk if you’re going to be the consequence. ‘Cause it means a lot to me to have your presence. Our opinions contradict, We have to find a way for it to be fixed. I was an introvert, And you happened to be an extrovert. I don’t know if that makes sense, Being toxic is what we have to prevent. I really love you as my best friend, I meant what I said. I may not be your favorite person anymore, You are still the Meredith in Christina Yang inside me. I’m always proud of the person that you become, Of how productive and optimistic you are now. I will never be able to find someone like you, again. You’re a rare version of Rae. A bestie that stays, In low and high days.

Maglingkod at mangalaga, ngunit di namin matanaw.
Panahon ngayo’y distansiya’y naging sandata,
I remember the first time you decided to talk to me I’ve always considered you an annoyance you see? You got so attached as we grew closer and closer, I hated your guts but I was never the wiser. You are the breath of the wild, unique in every way, You make me blush, each time you make my heart sway I guess I love you through and through? I wasn’t sure, But whenever I felt lovesick, I was certain you were the cure I never expected to fall for you, And I’d never expect that you’d fall for me too Days turned to weeks, and weeks turned to months, I fell for you more and more as I listened to your rants. I gave you my all, I confessed at sundown, Because I knew that if I kept quiet I’d forever be bound. With rejection in mind, I said “I love you” I was so confused when you said that you loved me too. As twilight cities darkened skies, I still remember that I was fixated on your eyes. You smiled as your tears fell into the ground. You embraced me and your heartbeat was the only sound. You were like the moon to me, maybe more, That was the moment you became my angel, forevermore. I may not be able to give you the world in time, But I hope that you know that I’m ready to give you mine. I wrote this rhyme to remind you of my devotion, I wrote this rhyme so that you won’t forget my adoration. I love you, But a million words isn’t enough to show you how much I do

Lyka Benisse V. Nastor Each day I will gaze upon your presence Through ups and downs, I will be with you I promise that I will cherish your essence With all my heart that is true
For all I know is to love you even more Your graceful actions, I will always adore The ember of your grace shines upon The love I’ll give you will forever go on
As the tender wind lashes my soul I hear the rhythmic beats of my heart you stole Your voice speaks truth and soothes me My love for you is deeper than the sea
You are perfect even with your flaws I am speechless by your beauty, whenever our paths cross Without you, my life’s meaningless
“Ignorance is bliss,” as many people say, “Perception is reality” as we all drift away. What is the meaning of life? A question unanswerable, As each day our universe shifts, the truth becomes less durable. Though as it may seem, impossible to conquer, Life has no pattern, only an endless journey we wander. The pain never ends, but the strength we must muster, As we go full throttle, full power is the thruster. Life is like a pile of leaves, swept up by the winds of spring, It is like the comfort that the summer heat may bring. Though it may sometimes be cold, like the winter snow, But it can also be peaceful like autumn, I thought you should know.
Life is a path that contains many directions, Choosing the right one however is our obligation, Life may be painful at times, whenever we hit rock bottom, But I hope that you are aware that pain is what makes us blossom. -dri.
Today is the 14th of February, The scenery was as sweet as a strawberry. They all have flowers to carry, All was full of love and was happy.
I was hurt to see everything, To see my hands tied in a string, Pleading for a king, That’s treating me like a nonsense thing.
But not for me, I was too busy, longing for you to see, How in love I am to thee, How I tried to be what you want me to be.
I realized that I lack self-love, If I continue to be a martyr of this so-called tragedy, I will totally lose my sanity, And I will be stuck with melancholy.
I forgot who I really am while chasing you. And begging you to love me too, I was running out of clue, Why didn’t you meet me on the avenue? Are you dating someone new?
So, I decided to choose myself. To enjoy a day loving nobody else, Prioritizing me, Starting on the day of February fourteen.
I was jealous of every little detail that I notice, How am I able to stay like this? I was too selfless, I let myself feel your coldness. Today was supposed to be a love day. But why do I feel unloved in every line of ray? I slipped away, ‘Cause I was too desperate for you to stay. While looking in a mirror, I see nobody. I feel the fatigue of being your ideal somebody, I cannot fit anymore in your story, I want to face my reality.
