Scripture is full of these commandments from the Old Testament and throughout the New Testament; prayer is a steadfast expectation that God has for His people. Rick Thorp is the Founder and Executive Director of a multi-faceted prayer organization called The Joshua Group. The organization serves as a covering for numerous ministries that solely focus on the promotion of Christian prayer. He has been in church leadership for over 31 years and is a licensed and ordained minister currently serving at Tacoma Christian Center, a large inner-city church in Tacoma, Washington. Rick is the inventor of a unique prayer program for churches and groups called PrayerMap; is the publisher of Prayer Matters Magazine; and the Director of a grass roots movement called Prayer Move America. He is becoming known as an influential force in the area of prayer, revival and victory, and is a popular speaker that carries a strong anointing of God. He and his team conduct seminars and conferences on prayer and revival. Mr. Thorp also serves as a consultant to churches and groups that desire a stronger, more effective prayer ministry. TERRY HARRIS is the Founder and Senior Pastor of Tacoma Christian Center in Tacoma, Washington. Mrs. Williams is an active leader of her local church for nearly seven years where she is an evangelist, Bible College teacher and lead intercessor. She uses her powerful gift of ministering the Word of God to empower and inspire people to become all that God has predestined them to be. Antoinnette impacts the Kingdom of God by sharing her ministry gifts at Women’s Conferences, Intercessor Seminars and area churches. She lives in Federal Way, Washington with her husband Michael.

PEOPLE OF PRAYER This month was the kick-off of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia. Besides all of the televised sporting events, there are many highlighted stories about the athletes themselves. One such story is that of the only Ethiopian Winter Olympian - a cross-country skiing Ethiopian! (PS…there’s no snow in Ethiopia). Robel Teklemariam practices in shorts and improvised steel beams with wheels. He launches himself down the dusty streets of his hometown in Ethiopia. He said that there is not that much traffic, but it’s noted that he has to be careful of donkeys. Robel made a remarkable quote. He said, “For me, I’m a team of one, but I’m representing 80 million people. It gives me a lot of pride and honor. It’s the country that I love.” That is an awesome quote. I relate it to our responsibility as Christians to be honorable representatives of Christ and give it our all even if we have challenges and obstacles to overcome (like Robel who practiced skiing on hot, dusty pavement in Ethiopia). We as Christians should understand that as individuals filled with Christ’s Spirit, we have a great responsibility to carry ourselves well and represent Heaven in an excellent way. But not only should we walk in excellence as Ambassadors of Christ, we should realize that we represent millions of other Christians too. As a Christian, an Ambassador of Christ and a representative of the Christian community, let’s make sure that everything we do is bringing honor to God. RICK THORP, Publisher

Answered In June of 2009, I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Cancer. I never thought, not for a moment, when everything ended and all was said and done, I’d be thankful for having lived with cancer. With the pain came a deeper understanding of Jehovah Rapha; and with the help of the Holy Spirit, I have moved on as a Victor in Christ Jesus – thriving every day. I am now looking forward to the beginning of my “new lease on life” in 2010.
which says, “I shall not die but live, and shall declare the works of the Lord.” This started me on my journey to seek the Lord for my healing. He gave me specific instructions and placed prayer warriors in my path. As long as I was prayerful and obedient to the Word of the Lord, the enemy would not have the victory. The Lord led me through areas of my life where I had allowed sin to dwell and it had to go. Under the direction of the Holy Spirit, Pastor Rick Thorp, the Intercessor Team Leader from my church, and I came into agreement as I confessed and released everything and anything the enemy could use to try and keep me in bondage to the spirit of infirmity. That was just the beginning of the faithfulness God continued to demonstrate in my healing.
When the doctors first said I had cancer, I was told I was going to have to do eight months of chemotherapy and three to six weeks of radiation. of light. A metaport was surgically placed in my upper chest area to allow the chemo to be administered through a tube in a vein in my neck. This process also allowed me to taste the bitterness of the chemo. The medicine would slowly drip through the IV into my system. This process took three hours and I had to repeat it every other week for six months. After chemo I felt exhausted and oftentimes even nauseated, but God kept me! I learned gratitude, gratitude like I’d never known before. I looked around at all the people who were receiving treatment – some had been on chemo for years, while others, it was their first or second time being diagnosed. Throughout the weeks and months you get to know people during treatment. We all had cancer in some form or fashion and it was difficult for everyone, but, it was really hard for people who had the same diagnosis as me. We were undergoing the same treatment yet how we responded and looked differed completely. God kept me in the spiritual and in the natural; God kept me and it was noticeable. I would see friends and everyone just thought I cut my hair shorter. No one looking at me could tell I had cancer. It is a testimony of just how much He loved and cared for me. I learned many wonderful truths about God’s mercy and grace during this time. The promises of God became real to me. I was
Prayer experiencing God for myself. It was wonderful. All around me I would see people get worse and even pass away, but God kept me. I now have my own testimony. God and His Word are real. I have tasted and seen that the Lord is good. It’s only because we serve an awesome God that I’m here. I take nothing for granted; my life has purpose; my identity is clear; and I am stronger than before. My life changed for the better in ways I could not have ever imagined. He turned every bad situation around for my good! I used to believe my hair -brown, wavy and halfway down my back, was a significant part of my personality. How I styled my hair was a major statement about who I was and how I was feeling. Once I lost my hair due to chemotherapy, I lost that symbol of my beauty. I had just managed to grow it back into a cute, short hairstyle when the radiation treatments resulted in losing about four inches off the back of my head and I had severe radiation burns. I was never told to expect to lose my hair a second time or that I would have such burns from the radiation. So you can imagine when it happened, the enemy tried to use it to his advantage. But it was too late;

Over the last three months, we have touched on numerous issues in regard to revival and the quest of seeing the unrestricted move of God in our cities and regions. Some of the key learning points of the series are: • God has been giving territory to people to possess since the creation of man. • God plants His people in different areas and regions of the earth to spiritually dominate those areas for Him. • The Holy Spirit and power was sent to the earth on the Day of Pentecost after the resurrection of Jesus. • Prior to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, the Apostles and other followers of Jesus were in one accord in prayer and supplication.

Joining together, on a regular basis, with like-minded people that yearn for the manifestations of the Holy Spirit is one of the major keys in seeing revival. Ask God to lead you to find those with this passion. Start to speak your interest in seeing the move of God come and notice how God brings people around you with similar interests. He is connecting the Body of Christ beyond congregational and denominational walls; He is letting His remnant of spiritled believers find one another around the common purpose of revival. To summarize the Apostle and Disciples’ mindset: • They loved Jesus and were dedicated to the advancement of the Kingdom of God • They desired everything that God had for them and were obedient to that call • They had faith that God would do the things that He said He would do • They were fully committed to prayer and supplication • They were joined together with like-minded people who were sold-out for God I encourage all readers of this article to take on this mentality. I challenge each and every one of
you to find a group of like-minded people and begin to pray like your life depended on it. Get involved with believers that are filled with a spirit of revival. Plug into groups that are tenacious about the Kingdom of God. Educate yourselves about these things through books, conferences, and electronic media. Become involved with local, national, and international prayer organizations. We have in our hands the ability to dominate our cities, regions and nations through the powerful Word of God. Nothing should stop us from participating in this revolutionary move of the Almighty. We are the ones God has entrusted the earth to in order to flood it with His Spirit, His power and His glory. Introducin The TEARS Foundation was started in 2002 by its Founder, Sarah Slack. Sarah and her husband, Sanford, experienced the stillbirth of their son, Jesse Curtis Slack on November 14, 2000. Through the loss of her son, Sarah decided to turn her tragedy into an opportunity to reach out to other families who have lost a baby and make a positive impact in her community. Since its inception, The TEARS Foundation has served hundreds of families in need with both financial and emotional support services. The vision for The TEARS Foundation is to meet a national need and provide its program across the U.S. TEARS offers a free support group for bereaved families who have experienced the death of their baby. They also have trained “Peer Companions� available to talk over the phone or meet with you. A Peer Companion is a bereaved parent or family member who has also lost an infant, has at least two years through their grief process, and has completed the TEARS training. Prayer involves action! It’s a conversation with God and an opportunity that He gives His children to become intimately acquainted with Him. Prayer enables believers to build a relationship with the Lord. Prayer is an expression of all believers’ dependence on God. It affirms His promises to the redeemed to release His spiritual power. When we pray by the leading of the Holy Spirit, we become the vessels that He has chosen, through relationship, to release His power. We have to agree with this responsibility He has given us and act on it for the power to come forth. God is a God of systems. He has chosen human beings on earth to participate in His system. God created man in His image. The physical creation of man was instrumental and specific to His purpose. God wanted a people with a mind, body, soul and a mouth to be involved in His system. The Creator is perfect in all He established and all that He does.
open your mouth to pray, you have an effect on the atmosphere. Hebrews 11:3, says, “by faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God, so the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” The sound of the Word of God created this world! The sound had an immediate effect on the atmosphere; the invisible became visible. Perhaps you think this only happened because it was God. Remember, Jesus was a man who walked the same earth that we are on today. He understood His Father’s system and submitted to its perfection. Jesus, as a human, had to open his mouth all the time to change the atmosphere. He could not accomplish His Father’s will without opening His mouth. He had to prepare the disciples for what was to come and demonstrate the releasing of spiritual power to influence the people on the earth. Jesus prayed in order to bring God’s Kingdom to earth. Prayer was the source of power and was necessary for this to happen. It stands true to this day. The power of prayer is necessary and it must come out of the mouth of man.
The mouth is powerful in so many ways! The sound of prayer takes place in your mouth - not your mind. ARE YOU ON THE WALL? By Roxanne Miles
God has commanded His people to pray. Scripture is full of these commandments from the Old Testament and throughout the New Testament; prayer is a steadfast expectation that God has for His people. Prayer is at the very core of expressing a real relationship with God. Every time Paul wrote a letter to the early church, it included a directive to pray; it included instructions for prayer; it assumed that prayer was the cornerstone for keeping faith alive and releasing God’s power upon the earth. We have lost the ability to experience some of the fire of God simply because we have failed to keep prayer as the core responsibility of Christianity. In Isaiah 62:6-7, God says: “I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: Ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence, and give him no rest, till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.” I want to challenge you to replace “O Jerusalem” with your household, with your church, or with your city. God uses everyone in His Kingdom to preserve and enhance it. So the question is simple. Which walls has He put you on? What aspects of His Kingdom has He entrusted to you? Has He given you children, extended family, a ministry, a church family, or leadership in any aspect in the community or church? If so, then begin to see yourself as the watchman over that territory. As someone who has been given much, much is required of you to care for what you have been given. (Luke 12:48) As a watchman you are to “never hold your peace day or night”. You are not to “keep silent” before God. You are called to give Him no rest until He
establishes His Word and Will. This is His desire. This is what God expects out of people who are called His own; those who represent Him on this earth. He expects your prayers to be bombarding His throne room. He expects your prayers to continue until your children, your ministry, your influence in this world through positions and jobs; until everything you oversee is a reflection of how God designed it to be. Ultimately, God will end up being recognized and praised because of the work of your hands and the prayers of your voice that have let God have His way. If nothing you oversee gives you a sense of fulfillment and healthy pride, you have to ask yourself, “am I settling for less than God’s glory?”, “am I too silent about what I shouldn’t be?”, “have I failed to stay the course of prayer until what God wants to be established comes forth?”. We have to look at ourselves and be honest about whether we are fulfilling our responsibility to the Kingdom of God. God wants to transform your life and circumstances, as well as the aspects of this world that He has made you a steward of. We know that in Ezekiel 22:30, God looked down at the Israelites whom He had made His own and had to make a startling concession. “And I sought for a man among them that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it. But I found none.” Who does God find standing in the gap for you? For your family? For your ministry and calling? For your job and career field? For your community and city? If no one else, shouldn’t He find you? I define a diligent seeker of God whom will be
rewarded (Hebrews 11:6) as one who is as a security guard, who is constantly looking at the camera screens, studying them for a sign or indication of where to put his attention. This type of guard will follow up on any activity that is out of the ordinary. He will seek to prevent a problem before it develops. This is compared to the security guard in so many films who is asleep or distracted while the enemy sneaks in to kill, steal and destroy. We all know that the enemy has that purpose for us (John 10:10), so our defense is to be watchmen for ourselves and those God has put in our life to protect, train and support. Watchmen stay awake, are vigilant; they have all senses roused and keep themselves from being so inactive that they make themselves obscure, ineffective, or non-existent to the Kingdom of God. What good is it to assign a watchman to a post who doesn’t take the responsibility to heart and who performs so poorly that no harm is prevented or foiled? It is hard to confront ourselves, but we must consider what has snuck into this world on our watch that we could have prevented had we been watching and praying. This role of watchman doesn’t come without a cost. It requires that a Christian be open to grow spiritually and to sacrifice time and human comforts. Even though we come into the Kingdom just as we are, we are called to be transformed to LOOK, SOUND and ACT like the new creature He made us to be. We have to train ourselves to listen to His voice and see the world in a more mature fashion than we did when we didn’t know any better. There are many “blind” Christians in this world. They are people who are content to continue to see and respond to only what is before them.
They live by responding to what life brings their way and have more of a “survival” mentality. They wonder how there is so much evil coming into their lives that disrupts their comfort and peace even though they “try to be good”. This mindset occurs when a Christian is missing out on understanding the way God has established His Kingdom to operate –and failing to understand their responsibilities in it. Scripture lets us know that how we see the world is determined by our spiritual condition. Our sight can be worldly and nonproductive or it can be spiritual and effectual. We have a choice to make. Jeremiah 5:21 (KJV): Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not: Matthew 13:14 (KJV): And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: Mark 8:18 (KJV): Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember? “Blind”, in the Greek, means to petrify, to indurate, or to render stupid or callous. Basically, it is to harden and refuse to see anything in a new way that is different than habit has taught you. When Christians close themselves off from the realization and desire to know spiritual things, then they become set in ways that keep them outside of true spiritual understanding. Conversely, to see is to be able to perceive, regard and take heed of a spiritual reality. When you can see what God is orchestrating in the Spirit, and know that your words carry power in the spiritual world, your prayer life will become
FEBRUARY | are you on the wall? vibrant. You will understand how to pray in ways that line up with what God wants to have happen and you will see the results. We are meant to understand more than we did when we first came into the faith. We are meant to see more than nonbelievers do. God is clear that spiritual understanding comes with spiritual maturity which is born out of obedience and faithfulness to pursue a deep relationship with God. We are given the opportunity to see spiritual things and to act upon them, however, we have to actively watch for what God is revealing. We need to seek out what is “really going on” in order to effectively prevent attacks on our own lives and those in the territories we protect. The spiritual insight to do this effectively only comes through a relationship with the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our prescription lens by which we see the truth of what is going on around us. The Holy Spirit was imparted to us at salvation. The Holy Spirit alone knows God’s Will and how to direct our prayers to be effective. We only know what to pray because of what the Spirit in us knows and tells us. Romans 8:26-29 (KJV): Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Blind people don’t know for what they ought to pray for themselves or others, but watchmen are put on the wall to fulfill that responsibility. Seek your heart, and talk with your Lord and King. What has He put in your life for you to watch over? Determine today that you will hold that responsibility in good consciousness and refuse to keep silent until God’s Will for what He has entrusted to you is established. which still stands today as an example and command for all believers: Ephesians 6:18 (KJV): Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; 1 Thessalonians 5:6 (KJV): Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. Colossians 4:2 (NIV): Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. When God looks down at you, your home and your community, and is determining what blessings to release or which judgments to pass, He should never say, “there was none” whom He could call on to pray. He should never even say there is only one or there are only a few. He should look down upon His people and look along the walls and find a multitude of believers ready and watching; He should find listening Children who are praying for His Will to be done, His Kingdom to come. It is a key point to recognize when it was that Paul and Silas sang, prayed and praised. What time was it? Midnight. What are most of us doing at midnight? Sleeping. Midnight is usually not a time that people pray. Most of us are worn out. It's time to rest; it’s time to sleep. Bible says that they used “supplication”. The Greek word supplicate means, “to humbly make earnest, sincere requests unto God”. They were asking with a humble heart. The origin of the Daniel Fast comes from the Book of Daniel 1:8, where he “purposed in his heart… would not defile himself with… the king’s delicacy. At the moment Daniel was serving Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, in his palace after they were conquered by the Babylonian army. As it was their tradition to offer the animals as sacrifices to their gods, Daniel did not want to sin against the LORD by eating the food that had been defiled by idol worshipers, hence in Dan 1:8 he requested that the king’s servants not to provide him with the palace food, and Daniel “requested… that he might not defile himself.” As a result, in verse Daniel 1:17, God mightily blessed Daniel and those who fasted with him, “God gave them knowledge… skill… wisdom.. and Daniel had understanding…” Hence, this was how the Daniel Fast came about. So the Daniel Fast food list consists of eating only fruits and vegetables for a period, and abstaining from wine, meat and processed food. Foods to include in your diet during the Daniel Fast
