GREETINGS FROM OUR
PRESIDENT On behalf of the members of The Junior League of Austin, welcome to our 47th annual A Christmas Affair “A Night of the Nutcracker”! Each year the A Christmas Affair committee produces a themed holiday market combined with special events to create a unique shopping experience. Proceeds raised during A Christmas Affair provide much needed funding that makes our signature programs and nonprofit partnerships possible. The Junior League of Austin is a dynamic women’s leadership organization committed to ourmission of promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving thegreater Austin community. We partner yearly with a diverse group of 25 to 30 local nonprofits to provide funding and volunteers. Our members also serve the Austin area community through our signature programs: •
Food in Tummies: Providing backpacks of nutritious food to two elementary schools in Del Valle Independent School District
•
Coats for Kids: Distributing new and gently used coats to over 30,000 children each December
•
Kids in Cool Shoes: Matching elementary school children with a new pair of athletic shoes
These programs are entirely planned, led, and executed by our members in their capacity as volunteers with our organization. In total, the women of The Junior League of Austin will provide nearly one million dollars in funding and spend over 160,000 hours volunteering in our community this year.
The Junior League of Austin is grateful for your continued support. We look forward to seeing you in the future volunteering at Coats for Kids and celebrating female chefs at Austin Entertains. Thank you for kicking off the holidays at A Christmas Affair this year! Sincerely,
Shannon Creekmur 2022-2023 President

A NOTE FROM OUR
SUSTAIN I NG PR E S I DE N T Grit and resilience have powered The Junior League of Austin through nearly 90 years in operation. The last several years are yet another testament that our members will thrive despite unknown and ever-changing circumstances, remaining steadfast as a mission-based organization committed to improving our community through effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Our purpose’s impacts are immeasurable, considering the individual development that our members gain through service and the benefits of more than 100,000 hours of active voluntarism and significant financial contributions to nonprofits each year.
This League year returns with more in-person events utilizing our own Community Impact Center for membership and community programs. The distance and strain that our remote/hybrid approach created will be replaced with focus on member engagement — fostering an inclusive environment that demonstrates we are better together — and continued progress on our community work. As any League year goes, we will respond and rally for what is ahead.
Without our steadfast supporters, this organization could not deliver upon what is needed in Central Texas. And our sustaining membership — 1,200 and counting — are some of our best advocates, counselors, and supporters. Sustaining members are gifts to the organization — supporting our membership with their current roadmap, helping guide for future plans, and continuously evolving along the way.
I am honored to serve as Sustaining President and work alongside this year’s Board of Directors to continue our vision of strengthening our community through creative solutions to current and future challenges. I invite you to celebrate and honor The Junior League of Austin traditions and help support new offerings that further amplify our impact in Central Texas.

Letter from the Chair
A
I welcome you to waltz down memory lane at the 47th annual The Junior League of Austin’s A Christmas Affair Night of the Nutcracker! This year is sure to evoke nostalgia as old traditions are revived and new ones are made with friends, family, and loved ones. Holiday colors are accented by pops of periwinkle and mixed with touches of elegance and sparkle. We hope you enjoy shopping en pointé at our market days, chassé away during parties at Palmer Events Center, or floating down a river of marzipan and candy canes to our children’s events, where Santa himself will be waiting to take photos with your family at our Community Impact Center (CIC). I am honored to be this year’s A Christmas Affair Chair, but I must tell you there are 97 Sugar Plum Fairies who made this dream come alive. These extraordinary women of The Junior League of Austin (JLA) worked around the clock pouring their hearts, talents and energy into this beloved event. Their dedication and passion for improving the Austin community is truly amazing and inspiring. “Thank you,” doesn’t do it justice, but I thank each of you from the bottom of my heart!
To our sponsors who believe in our mission, thank you for your support and generosity. Year after year you go above and beyond with financial contributions to make our holiday market a thriving fundraiser. The money raised at A Christmas Affair (ACA) directly benefits our Austin community by supporting the League’s 32 community projects and three signature programs: Coats for Kids, FIT – Food In Tummies and KICS – Kids In Cool Shoes.
ACA would not be possible without our JLA volunteers, the women who join the League year after year to support the Austin community and power this event; our sponsors and partners; more than 200 merchants from around the nation, and of course our patrons — the members of our community who come back each year to support ACA, donate by buying raffle tickets, attend parties with loved ones, and shop our incredible merchants during Market Days. Thank you for believing in what we do. Last but not least, thank you to my incredible family. My husband, Kyler, who supports me and believes in me no matter what and who is always willing to help. To my daughter, Gray — my little Gray Bunny and future Junior Leaguer — I cannot wait to see the difference you will make. And to our newest addition, Baby Briggs, may you follow in our footsteps. I love you to the moon and back! From ballrooms to battles, boats to ballets, and an unforgettable tree, we welcome you to our grand house — a house built on goodwill, great memories, and 97 strong women passionate about serving their community.
