OVERVIEW

WHAT IS WISE & WHO IS ELIGIBLE? Work Internship and Student Experience or WISE is an enrichment program open to all current TKS students from grades 10 to 12, as well as university students visiting their parents* at KAUST for the summer. WISE will run from July 22 to August 16, 2018, with opportunities across many KAUST departments. Upon successful completion of the program, Interns will receive a certificate and stipend at the WISE award ceremony. * Parent/s must be a KAUST resident


OVERVIEW

WHAT IS WISE & WHO IS ELIGIBLE? The work internship program gives college and university students the opportunity to translate classroom learning into practical experience. They will gain valuable new skills that will help prepare them for their future professional career. Student Experience is a program that introduces high school students to the professional workplace. Students have the opportunity to explore areas of interest that they might pursue in university while adding to their resume for college or job applications

INTERNSHIP POSITIONS, SUMMER 2018 WISE provides internships across a diverse range of departments at KAUST. There are 70 internship positions available in the research and academic sector and the administrative and finance sector. You can view information about these positions in this brochure.


CEMSE

COMPUTER, ELECTRICAL & MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES & ENGINEERING (CEMSE) DIVISION CEMSE is one of three academic divisions at KAUST. The division is responsible for the organization and coordination of four degree programs: 1. Applied Mathematics & Computational Science 2. Computer Science 3. Electrical Engineering 4. Statistics This year, three internships are available: one in the Student Internships Team and two in CEMSE Communications Team.

BESE

BIOLOGICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE & ENGINEERING (BESE) DIVISION BESE is one of three academic divisions at KAUST. Research at the BESE Division brings students, faculty and researchers together to push the frontiers of science through collaborative inquiry into issues of global and regional significance. This year, six internship positions are available in the SAUDI ARAMCO-KAUST Center for Marine Environmental Observations.


SAUDI ARAMCO-KAUST CENTER FOR MARINE ENVIRONMENTAL OBSERVATIONS TEAM - 6 POSITIONS

RESEARCH & PLANNING TEAM - 1 POSITION

UNIVERSITY LIBRARY TEAM - 2 POSITIONS

UNIVERSITY LIBRARY INTERN The Intern will:

Skills & knowledge needed: Technical skills e.g. graphic design skills for a person interested in a marketing and promotion project An interest in libraries and/or information management would be beneficial

CORE LABS

CORE LABS - VISUALIZATION CORE LAB The Core Labs provide state-of-the-art facilities, training and services to the KAUST research community, collaborators and industrial partners. These centrally organized, shared-user facilities provide direct access to specialized research equipment operated by expert staff with advanced degrees in science and engineering. The Core Labs consists of ten laboratories that are strategically located throughout the academic campus to enable users to transition between labs in a matter of minutes. This year, two internships are available in the Visualization Core Lab.


VISUALIZATION CORE LAB - 1 POSITION

VIRTUAL REALITY CONTENT DEVELOPER (UNITY3D) INTERN The Intern will: Create a compelling demo/3D content within Unity3D, using a scientific dataset Document workflows within Unity3D

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY The Information Technology (IT) Department is responsible for the management and operational support of the entire IT Voice, Data and TV Network, SAP ERP Enterprise Solution, all software applications, and global research network connectivity. IT also provides critical technology support for KAUST faculty, staff, students, community, partners, and other institutions including the Research Park partners. This year, five internships are available in the following IT teams: End User Computing, IT Consulting, Information Security and End Point Technology.


END USER COMPUTING TEAM - 1 POSITION

COMMUNITY LIFE DIVISION The Community Life teams are passionate about helping each individual and family find their sense of place and belonging in the KAUST community. They build and nurture a culture of community by providing access to services and resources that bring value to the lives of residents; and by helping residents engage in personal interests that connect them to their neighbors and environment. This year, internship positions are available in the following teams: Community Engagement, Housing & Guest Services, Recreation Services, Transportation, Food Services and KAUST Health.

SAUDI AFFAIRS Saudi Affairs facilitates national development and collaboration in Saudi Arabia with a focus on creating and nurturing talent for KAUST and for the nation. Saudi Affairs administers an extensive portfolio of activities related to national development and social responsibility. Saudi Affairs is instrumental in strengthening KAUST's impact in Saudi Arabia and also manages the University's marketing and communication function. This year, fourteen internship positions are available across the following teams: Marketing Communications, the Museum of Science & Technology in Islam, the Office of Social Responsibility and MATJAR.


MARCOM DESIGN TEAM - 2 POSITIONS

FIRE LOSS PREVENTION TEAM - 2 POSITIONS

FIRE INSPECTOR INTERN

The Intern will: Engage with key stakeholders (KAUST Departments and Contractors) to ensure that fire and life safety measures are implemented correctly within KAUST buildings and projects Assist the fire protection inspectors and engineers in carrying out their daily work Take part in guided development in the understanding of basic fire and life safety strategies and fire engineering concept Manage a basic work related project to deliver an outcome

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS Government Affairs provides a full range of services to the whole KAUST community. For e.g. the Embassies Relations team forms the link between KAUST and Saudi Arabian Missions abroad, as well as in-Kingdom foreign embassies and consulates; the GA Center provides support on a whole host of services from iqama and visa issuance and renewal, to helping the community acquire a driving licence or import their pet. PSE

PHYSICAL SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING (PSE) DIVISION The mission of the Physical Sciences and Engineering Division is to create knowledge pertaining to matter at all scales – nano, meso, macro; and in all forms – from bulk, divided colloids and fluids, and the interaction of matter with external stimuli in order to design new materials and technologies to address the issues of our times. This year, an internship position is available in the KAUST Catalysis Center.

INTERN FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS)

INTERN FAQS What are the work hours? High school students are expected to work six hours per day while university students work eight hours Can a TKS Student use WISE hours for CAS (Creativity, Action, Service) credit? Students have the option to forego his or her stipend to meet CAS requirements For students studying abroad, does WISE arrange for travel and visas? No. WISE is offered to students who are visiting KAUST for the summer. Travel and visas back to KAUST for the summer must be arranged by the student or parents Will the student be paid while participating in WISE? All students accepted for the program receive a stipend.

HOW TO APPLY FOR A WISE INTERNSHIP TKS students can visit the WISE Internship Fair, Tuesday 30 January, 8.45 am - 10.15 am, at the MOSTI Conference Center (Building 19) in order to gather information about the internships on offer, meet representatives from the host departments and take the opportunity to make a great first impression. Applications can be made from 30 January by visiting wisekaust.workable.com. The application deadline is 10 February. Interviews will take place end February/early March, with offers being made by mid March 2018. Queries can be e-mailed to wise@kaust.edu.sa.
