"Thegoodnews isfeelingsdo passevenwhen theydon'tfeel liketheywill." the time You probably won’t see immediate results and you’re going to want to give up but don’t. You’re a whole being having a human experience. That’s the beautiful thing about life. You are here living it. There may be deeper and deeper levels of emotional healing to be discovered. Do your best to live in a way thathonorsandsupportsyourcontinued journey of emotional healing. This will allow you to experience ever expanding emotional healing that can improve your physical, emotional, and mental health, well being, satisfaction in life, and connectiontoyourselfandothers.

Sit with your past, present and future: Look to your left, acknowledge what has happened in your past and say to yourself, “I’m not longer living here.”

Nottoofarawayonacablejustrightaboveareanothertwobirdshoveringoverthiscrow.Hovering and pestering to break this crow’s stillness. See, these birds are like our intrusive thoughts, they’re there, annoyingly hovering over our heads, pestering, trying to capture our attention. Acknowledge they are there but they shouldn’t disturb your awareness to being present This may be one of the hardest things to do. You are likely experiencing a range of deep feelings such as sadness, grief, or rage. Those aren’t fun emotions and it’s tempting to want to ignore them or rush through them. It will be uncomfortable but acknowledging tough feelings is part of healing. The good news is that feelings do pass even if it doesn’t feel like they will. Do not, DO NOT, compromise your values: If in your heart of hearts something doesn’t feel right to you, don’t do it. Don’t compromise on your internal code of ethics, as this will leave you feeling empty and full of regret. Life doesn’t work like a movie. It’s filled with gray areas. Trust your instincts and do whatever you want so long as you can look yourself in the mirror with appreciation and love. Practice self compassion and self gratitude: It’s pretty hard to heal if you’re beating yourself up all the time. You don’t have you self deprecate, feel guilty One of my favorites is the self compassion meditations I do throughout the day is to say five nice things about myself. Praise yourself for finishing a task, eating a healthy meal, maybe it’s as simple as getting out of bed. Praise yourself! Yes, that’s right thank yourself. Despite the emotional pain you’ve experienced that’s leading you on this emotional healing journey, you have made it this far.Gratitudeandself compassiongohandinhand.Thejourneytohealingisn’ttheeasiestmostof

Look to your right, acknowledge your future commitments, tasks, goals and say to yourself, “I am no living here yet”. Look forward, I know it’s awkward but close your eyes, take a deep breath in and as you start to release that breath slowly open your eyes and say, “I am here right now.”

This is your currently reality. Accept it. I’m sitting here in my backyard and on the light post cables is a crow sitting, minding its own business just being presentenjoyingtheweather.

Reach out to others for support: Support from others is critical to healing after a breakup or divorce.Youmightfeellikebeingalone,butisolatingyourselfwillonlymakethistimemoredifficult. Don’ttrytogetthroughthisonyourown.Sharingyourfeelingswithfriendsandfamilycanhelpyou get through this period. People who have been through painful breakups or divorces can be especially helpful. They know what it is like and they can assure you that there is hope for healing and new relationships. Frequent face to face contact is also a great way to relieve the stress of a breakup and regain balance in your life Spend time with people who support, value, and energize you. As you consider who to reach out to, choose wisely. Divorce can be one of the most stressful and emotional experiences in life. Whatever the reason for the split and whether you wanted it or not the end of a relationship (especially a marriage) can turn your whole world upside down and trigger all sorts of painful and unsettling emotions. Even whentherelationshipisnolongerthriving, adivorcecanbeextremelypainfulbecauseitrepresents the loss, not just of the partnership, but also of the dreams and commitments you shared. Romantic relationships begin on a high note of excitement and hopes for the future. When a relationship fails, we experience profound disappointment, stress, and grief. Don’t fight your feelings: It’s normal to have lots of ups and downs, and feel many conflicting emotions, including anger, resentment, sadness, relief, fear, and confusion. It’s important to identify and acknowledge these feelings. While theseemotionswilloftenbepainful, tryingtosuppressorignorethemwillonlyprolongthegrieving process. Accept that reactions like these will lessen over time. Talk about how you’re feeling: Even if itisdifficultforyoutotalkaboutyourfeelingswiththerpeople, itisveryimportanttofindawayto dosowhenyouaregrieving.Knowingthatothersareaware of your feelings will make you feel less alone with your pain andwillhelpyouheal

Cultivatenewfriendships:

create many hopes and dreams for a life together. After a divorce, it’s hard to let these aspirations go. As you grieve the loss of the future you once envisioned, be encouraged by the fact that new hopes and dreams will eventually replace your old ones. This is an opportunity for you to tweak thosehopesanddreamsandgetwhatYOUreallywantoutoflife.#5Giveyourselfabreak Give yourself permission to feel and to function at a less than optimal level for a period of time. You may not be able to be quite as productive on the job or care for others in exactly the way you’re accustomed to for a little while. No one is superwoman; take time to heal, regroup and re energize. This is a time that you need to understand your limits and give yourself some grace. You will get backtoyou...it'soktotaketimetoheal.

Get outside help if you need it: If reaching out to others doesn’t come naturally, consider seeing a counselor or joining a support group. The most important thing is that you have at least one place where you feel comfortable opening up. There are even online counseling services now... so if the thought of having to go to a therapist's office is embarrassing or scary - you can now get some help fromthecomfortofhome.

henIwas10, it seemed like cancer was hitting my Mom’s side of the family back to back. I would accompany my mom when she would visit my aunts at the hospital or in their home with hospice. I would listen to the conversations with the doctor or caretaker and it never would sound hopeful. We lost 3 of my grandma's sisters to cancer. Then, in 8th grade, my Mom’s cousin, CeCe, was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was just a few years older than my mom. She was the life of every family party. She was loud, fun, and hilarious! We miss her deeply. After CeCe's passing, I started asking why were we losing our family to diseases?Noonehadarealclearanswerotherthan“itjustrunsinourfamily.”

Fastforwardtocollege,Itooktwocoursesthatopenedmyeyes:ToxicologyandNutrition.Ibegan to understand more about why my family became sick. Food and environmental toxins are what I believe contributed to their sicknesses. Years of exposure and accumulation without cleansing are a recipe for disease. My grandma's sisters all worked in the fields and factories where they were exposed to dangerous chemicals such as pesticides. I come from a Mexican family. At gatherings and celebrations we ate so much meat, chicken, pork, rice, beans and tortillas. Like most families, we had cake, cookies, and drank sodas at parties. "It runs in a family" was suddenly a clear answer to my question. I finally started to examine what foods I've eaten all of my life, especially since childhood.IalsolookedattheproductsIusedonandaroundme.Iwascreatingdiseaseinmyown bodyandIdidn'tevenknowitbeforethosetwoclasses.

Onemonthbefore graduating from SJSU, I received a text from my Dad that my mom was in the hospital for high blood pressure. All that went through my head were the memories of my aunts and cousin. I could not lose my mom to disease. I prayed to God that night and asked Him to take care of her I knew changes to her diet and lifestyle would be most beneficial, and I also knew I neededtomakechangestoo.

What decision did you have to make before breaking a cycle? First, I made myself aware that the cycle of whichever circumstance was going on - was no longer serving me. Then, I had to accept that I was worthy of a better life than the one I was living. Often times, we allow our circumstances to become a part of our identity and forget that just because we live a certain lifestyle or we’re brought up in a certain environment doesn’t mean we shouldstaythere.ESPECIALLYifit’sdoingmoreharmthangood.

What have you found are some of the hardest things to overcome as a parent or as a person? I think initially some of the hardest things that I’ve had to overcome as a parent are realizing that I was going to have to unlearn some of the things that were drilled into me. Whether it be the way you liveorthewaypeoplethinkyoushouldlive,if you stand firm in who you are, you will not onlyliberateyourselfbutalsoyourchildren.

We must recognize that a cycle has two paths: one way will break the cycle and heal you and your family for generations to come and the other will keep your family wounds open long after you are gone. It’s time to recognize you deserve more and you have everything you need within you to achieve it Once you decide to break away, how did your healing begin? I didn’t do it alone I leaned into prayer and church. I allowed myself to be poured into which ultimately helped me grow and take things less personal so that I could remain tender hearted with tougher skin. That played a hugerollinmyhealing.
