Vision.
To provide a social platform where people come to widen their personal and professional perspectives.
Meet the Founder. Amanda Castro is a mother and entrepreneur born and raised in Ventura County, California. Her passion for helping others live in celebration of every milestone is rooted deeply within her personal and professional life. As time progresses, her background in communications continues to develop through her experience in networking and sales however, her love for writing has been with her since childhood. It was only until her early adult years where she truly grasped that under the surface, everyone has a story that others know nothing about. This realization demanded a new level of compassion and a deeper understanding of behaviors and feelings. And so, her research began.
The backstory. Fast forward to January of 2020, with the help of some of the most creative columnists and contributors - TKC published it's very first magazine. What the TKC team didn’t know was that the remaining 11 months of that year would be filled with unimaginable events that would shake the world. As events continued to unfold in what felt like the longest year ever, TKC was faced with a decision to pull back or push forward and figure things out along the way. Needless to say, they understood that more than ever their crusade was incredibly important and that dream of theirs had to quickly become a reality. Across the nation today, The Kind of Convo is a platform where various lifestyles and professions can come together to teach, learn, and confide in one another.

Often times, we get so consumed in trying to keep up with technology, social media, and hustle culture that we forget to connect with the people around us. Think about the core memories you have for a second. Do your most meaningful memories include a bonding experience or conversation with someone else? I bet they do. We know on many levels that we are social beings by nature and this issue is dedicated to celebrating just that through the stories, expertise, and flashback playlists of your peers. As you're reading through, I ask that you allow this issue to serve as a humbling reminder to pause, reflect, and appreciate how beautifully orchestrated life really is. I believe that through the ups and downs, every life is a life worth living and when you experience it with others, inevitably it becomes a life worth loving. So friends, my prayer is that this issue was shared with you and the people you love in the season that you all need it most. As always, now and forever - I wish you more memories than lists, more love than things, and most importantly... more human connection.

Which connection are you most proud of?
Hands down the connection I have with my daughter. I gave birth to her in my early twenties so in a sense, we are growing up together and I believe that is one of the reasons our bond is so strong."
What is the best question you have ever been asked? "Have you ever been in love?" because I love to explain the emotions you experience when you are in love.
What is one thing you are so glad you did in life? I am so glad I didn't silence my life long dreams. or become a "realist" after a few failed attempts.
What is one decision you wish you didn’t make?
It was for sure my decision to lie to my doctor about my mental state after giving birth to my daughter. Had I known what I know now, I would have been honest about my thoughts and feelings and gotten the help I needed much sooner than I did.
What's your go-to motivational song?
Save the world by Swedish House Mafia
What is the "failure" that you most cherish? Freezing on stage in front of hundreds of people. I grew a lot from that experience and to this day, I challenge myself to be a better communicator because of it.
Is it more important to believe or to know?
Sheesh! What a question. In my opinion, it's more important to believe. We will never have all the answers and that's okay. Taking a leap of faith and believing in someone or something is much more powerful than trying to prove who or what something is or isn't, including yourself.

DOUBLE TAP
BE AUTHENTICALLY YOU
into a healthy relationship with social media usage.
Social media can be a powerful tool to stay connected in your personal and professional life.
It’s 10PM, you’re laying in bed and you promise yourself you'll only scroll for 10 minutes. You scroll past some funny videos, your old friends from college, a motivational video and maybe even a conspiracy theory here and there (whatever floats your boat) and before you know it - it’s 1 o’clock in the morning. By this point- you’ve probably laughed, maybe cried, had a flashback, made a purchase and likely also compared your reality to some else’s life highlights.
For some, social media is used for marketing and business while others it is used to stay and be connected with friends and family all around the world. Whatever you use it for, there is a community for everyone and once you’ve found yours, it’s easier to set boundaries for yourself and the people you interact with. Here are some tips:
We’re all guilty of allowing social media to consume our attention at one point or another so believe it or not, it’s up to you to leverage it in a way that serves you.
UNFOLLOW
TKCMAG
MINDSET
Don’t sign on when you are feeling down about yourself. Don't be afraid to unfollow people. If they are trolling and/or not your vibethe solution is simple…UNFOLLOW, BLOCK, or REPORT.
Share the light of your life and when you feel inclined to share a not so positive experience, present it in a way that could help or inspire rather than tear yourself or others down.
SUPPORT OTHERS
Connect with like-minds to build positive community. If your values align, support them with interaction (like, comment, subscribe) or purchases.
TIME LIMIT
Don't allow social media to be a distraction. Keep your phone on the other side of the room, place it on "DND", or completely /temporarily delete an app until you reconnect with life outside of your screen. Give yourself a daily time limit and once you’ve reached it, close the app and continue on with your day.

Are you an extrovert, introvert, or somewhere in between like me? Regardless, networking is and will always be your most crucial form of marketing. It requires sincere connections with the right people and has somewhat of an art to it. With that being said, have patience and don’t overthink things. Building a solid network of people takes time. Be clear on your purpose and before you ask for anything in return, always give value first. Further, find confidence in knowing that you can’t say the wrong thing to the right person because the right person will ALWAYS hear you differently. Now while I could give you a list of “what to say” or “ways to pitch your business”, you’re inevitably going to learn these things through experience so instead, let’s dive into some tips about human nature. Happy networking!
Secrets to working the room like nobody's business: Become the MVP: Referrals are the most successful way to grow your business. By becoming the MVP of somebody’s network, they will begin to introduce you to the people they want to gain status from. How do you do this? You help everyone you know with whatever your service is and because they already know you can bring value, they will make connections on your behalf. Everybody wins here. Mirror their body language: Limbic Synchrony is a recipe for instant connection and a great way to communicate empathy and attentiveness. The good news is that it’s already built into our brains so when you are networking for business, you can use this to scale rapport. Are they mirroring you? If so, you've likely established a genuine connection. Keep it moving: Always be in a rush and ask for permission to connect again. For example, “It was great meeting you. I’ve got to be on my way but is it too much to ask that we exchange info so we can discuss this further?” By presenting them with the opportunity to say no, you are giving them back the power - in turn, proving trustworthiness. Use their name in conversation: This is such a small thing but can make all the difference in connecting with someone you’d like to learn from. Not only does it keep the person you are speaking to engaged, it can also be seen as a sign of respect and importance. This will go a long way in networking. Have fun: Don't put so much pressure on yourself. Feeling comfortable while networking takes time, practice, and effort so you may as well enjoy the journey. People are drawn to good energy!

On a scale of 1-10, how well would rate your relationship with your finances? If the answer is anything less than 10, we encourage you to tap-in to what The Money Mom has to share about financial literacy. .Jenna Meza is a mother, woman of faith, and respected mentor in the world of entrepreneurship. Her heart for helping others achieve financial freedom is what continues to fuel her nationwide teachings in financial education and leadership development. If you are looking to jumpstart your path to financial literacy, be sure to use these 6 steps to financial freedom. In addition, if you'd like a complimentary Financial Needs Analysis - scan the QR code below to secure a virtual appointment with her team! Let them know “TKC Magazine” sent you to be included in future giveaways and workshops!
Budget Tell your money where to go instead of wondering where it went. We like to follow the 50/30/20 Rule. 50% - Living Expenses 30% - Financial Goals 20% - Flexible Spending NOTE: If any one of these categories falls short, that is a clear indicator that more household income needs to be made/budget needs to be re-evaluated.
Build Wealth
Invest in your future by compounding your money using this simple formula: The Rule of 72: 72/RoR = # of yrs. for money to double RoR (Rate of return): The % at which your money is growing. EXAMPLE: 72/1 = 72 years vs. 72/10 = 7.2 years Assess your risk. There are 3 ways your money can grow: Fixed: Low and guaranteed return. (ie. Bank Accounts, CD's) Variable: Unknown and volatile return. (ie. Stocks, Mutual Funds) Indexed: Protection from down market. (ie.Life Insurance and Annuities)
Emergency Fund Set aside 3 months of income to prepare for unforeseen expenses such as medical bills, unemployment, car repairs, property damage, etc. This fund will allow you to recover from an emergency without derailing your financial strategy or forcing you into debt. When the inevitable occurs and you dip into this account, you must immediately rebuild until it is full again.

Proper Protection
Life insurance is a defensive strategy for all stages of life that is designed to protect against loss of income and other financial needs that come up after one's passing. There are two types: Term: Provides a death benefit for a specified period of time (Premiums are affordable as it provides one component - a death benefit that will expire). Once the policy has expired, you may no longer have the same insurable need. For example, your mortgage may be paid in full and/or your children may have left the nest. NOTE: Renewing a term policy once expired may be costly. Permanent: Provides a death benefit for your lifetime. Allows the option for long-term care and tax-free growth/income which can be used for retirement, to send children to college, purchase real-estate, etc.
Make a list of your debts, outstanding balances, interest rates, and monthly payments. Eliminate debt using the most effective strategy for your situation. Snowball Method: Regardless of your interest rates, make all minimum payments while focusing extra payments toward the debt with the smallest balance. Once a debt is paid, roll that payment (min. + extra) toward your next debt with smallest balance. Repeat until debt-free. Avalanche Method: Regardless of your balances, make all minimum payments while focusing extra payments toward the debt with the highest APR. Once a debt is paid, roll that payment (min. + extra) toward your next debt with highest APR. Repeat until debt-free.
Jenna Meza, Ventura County Reduce taxation to control how much money you keep.
There are 3 ways your money can be taxed: Taxable: Taxes paid yearly on interest, dividends, and earnings. (Mutual Funds, Savings Accounts, CD's) Tax Deferred: Taxes paid when you take distributions in retirement. (IRA, 401k, 403b, TSP, and Annuities) Tax Exempt: You never pay taxes on your earnings and/or distributions. (Roth IRA, Life Insurance Contracts)
Will: Identifies a guardian for your minor or special needs child and set forth how your property should be distributed. Health Care Directive: Identifies who will make health care decisions on your behalf if you are unable to do so. Power of Attorney: Identifies who will handle your affairs (bills, taxes, insurance, etc.) if you are unable to do so.

in between therapy sessions, here are some mindful tips for when you feel...
Doubtful
REMEMBER YOUR WHY - look at the lock screen on your phone and read your affirmations immediatley.
Sad
REFLECT ON PAST WINS remember you've survived 100% of your worst days.
Angry
MOVE YOUR BODY - dance, hit the gym, go for a walk, stretch.
Tired
LISTEN TO YOUR BODY - Rest is essential to every area of your life.
Uninspired Practice verbalizing your feelings and channeling your emotions into something that will move you forward. We know it's easier said than done but the understanding of our own emotions is crucial and the earlier we learn this, the better off we will be. This type of emotional awareness can allow us to process our feelings more effectively, making It easier to process the positive/negative reactions of others when directed toward us.
CLEAN SOMETHING - Turn on your favorite podcast and organize your car, your home, your office space, anything. Clean spaces will allow for a creative and calm flow.
Irritated
PAUSE- Respond with kindness rather than reacting with emotion.
Anxious
BREATHE - What you are feeling will pass. There is a solution to every problem. One moment, one deep breathe at a time.

James: Don’t play the guessing game and communicate often. The needs of your relationship will evolve as the two of you experience more life together. We learned this the hard way and it put a major strain on our relationship because one of us would often feel like we weren’t doing enough. Therapy helped us work through this. Trish: You beat me to it! Therapy was and still is a non-negotiable for us. We also learned each other's love languages in therapy and it has helped us in so many ways. I really believe learning that is the reason we are able to be there for each other no matter what’ life throws our way.
Talk that talk to ME Pro Tip: "The ideal seven days (in a relationship ) includes time alone, time with each other, time with your own friends and family, and time with collective friends and family" -Jay Shetty
Here are some ways to keep the spark alive, the Rodriguez way...
Never stop dating each other - T: "The first thing we put in our calendar every week is "Date Night". Sometimes it’s a movie after the kids go to sleep and sometimes it’s a night that requires a sitter but either way, we make it a priority to spend quality time together so we can let loose and relax." Be adventurous - J & T: "Experiencing new things together is crucial. It creates memories and brings you closer as a couple. This one time, we went zip-lining and James had to hype me up because my knees started to buckle. I didn't know I was afraid of heights but he talked me through my nerves and we definitely laughed about it after. Good times." Sex it up - T: "Have passionate sex often. This is normalized talk between us that usually comes up when we are watching a movie for some reason… haha. We ask each other, "How can we switch it up?", "What are we comfortable trying?", "Has anything changed?" etc. We also have a code word for when one of us just isn’t in the mood. I won’t tell you what it is though so don’t ask." Plan for the future together - J: "Not only does it give us something to look forward to as a family but as we accomplish little things, we get to celebrate each other along the way. This is huge for us, especially right now when we are working toward buying our first home." Group gatherings - T: "Spend time with others. I love to see James socialize. I get to admire a different side of his personality and also rescue him from a bad joke here and there. #savedyourlife" Do an everyday task together - J&T: "Not to replace the alone time we each have (very important) but here and there we will work out or cook dinner together. It’s so simple but doing those things together makes it feel more like a mini date than a chore. You’ll know when you’re having one… a deep and meaningful conversation. These conversations carry much more substance than the usual small talk. They are thought provoking , mentally and sometimes emotionally stimulating. The flow of a conversation like this is hard to describe because it cannot be planned or forced. Whether intentional or not, an inevitable bond is formed, reconnected, and/or strengthened after a talk like this. Something important to keep in mind is not everyone is ready for a deep conversation or likes to have them so you must always respect the boundaries of others and understand that the term “meaningful” is different for everyone. Throughout your lifetime, you’ll continue to gain perspective and as conversations grown deeper, you’ll be able to understand the different layers of who someone is and why. The beauty in that is that its discovered in the act of someone telling a story during a time when they felt safe.

We had an amazing conversation with Rocio about generational teachings, modern-day parenting, and how to fulfill such an important role that comes with no handbook. The care and expertise she offers to her clients and the parenting community is the kind of coaching many parents are seeking today. Sincerely Listen
When you sit down to make your schedule, be sure to pencil in family events and quality time first. Consider these things nonnegotiables. Everything else gets planned around that.
Time with Zero Distractions
Let it be about them. No interrupting. No explanations. No rebuttals. (keep your phone away)
Open Mind
The point of listening is to understand. After you’ve completed the listening process, if a solution is needed, you can both discuss possible strategies. However, often the person will solve their own problem if you just listen. Hint: You can ask," Do you want my advice? or do you just want me to listen?"
Patience No problem solving. I know this feels difficult especially when you feel like you can help with your experience but just listen attentively.

I created Hello Indie as a response to Covid when I noticed how much of a toll the uncertainty of the world was taking on my clients. I thought to myself, “what if I could somehow fuse life coaching (something that would boost the mental health of my clients) and financial planning (something I'm expert at)?” With my clients in mind, the desire to make this a reality in such uncertain times grew stronger and stronger and eventually my purpose became more and more clear. I knew if I could bring this to life, it would help shift the mindset of my present and future clients. So from then on, I made it my mission to help people reach their financial goals and feel secure about doing so, no matter the circumstances. Today, Hello Indie is no longer just and idea. Everyday, we live out our dream in service to others and make it a priority to help the people around us do the same. Our holistic approach breathes direction & meaning back into the lives of our clients and business partners as we guide them through their goals and dreams. To bring this to life, we created a modern system that is designed to combine financial and life goals while evaluating the short and long term effects of each one. So tell us, what are your goals and dreams? Is it to buy a house? Have a family? Send your kids to college? Retire early? Start a business? Travel the world? Make a difference in your community? Wide-scale philanthropy? Whatever it is, our team of experts are ready to help you design your best life with you casted as the main character. With you, our vision will inspire people to do the things that inspire them, so that together we can change the world.

Celebrating culture is especially important in today’s world. Doing so, opens up ways to teach and learn remedies, rituals, recipes, prayers, and traditions from all around the world. What better way to connect with someone than to introduce them to the ways of your homeland in both big and small ways. Take note that being well cultured will not only help you have a better understanding of of the world but it will also help you develop your own opinions and traditions. So, we invite you to help us celebrate the many cultures that make our communities so beautifully diverse with some ideas on how to keep tradition alive. But first, let's get educated!

Ways to keep your culture alive
TKCMAG
Tell a story you were told when growing up. Although you probably can’t tell it as good as your grandma, keeping these memories and/or folk tales alive keep people connected long after they leave this earth. Understand the religion you were raised on . Sometimes you will not agree with the religion you were raised on and that is okay but it will allow you to better connect with the people in your family and help you form your own beliefs. Cook a meal using a traditional recipe - and master it! Write these recipes down so they can live on through the generations. Attend cultural events. What better way to walk get a glimpse of another culture and community when hopping on a plane isn’t an option.

ABSORb EARTH EARTHING
WITH SAM GARCIA Earthing, also known as grounding- is the practice of balancing our body’s electrical current by connecting directly to the energy that comes from the earth. For this energy transfer to take place, it’s believed one must have skin contact with the surface of the earth. Modern day scientist believe that this ancient holistic practice can be applied to benefit people in various ways. Let me point out that the following information is based off of group research conducted by our team and should not be taken as medical advice. After reading this article and conducting your own research, you should find a professional to guide you in your new earthing journey! One barefoot in front of the other, lets dig our toes in… Consider this technique if you experience one or more of the following symptoms: Anxiety Depression PTSD Chronic Pain Inflammation Cardiovascular disease Insomnia You can easily practice this technique daily using one or more of the following methods: Go for a barefoot walk on the beach, in mud, or on the grass. If you must wear shoes for safety reasons, opt for a soleless leather bottom shoe or sandal. Garden with your bare hands in your backyard or create a small garden for your windowsill. Go outside and hug a tree or lay directly on grass or dirt. If going outdoors is not an option for you, you can use an alternative "grounding product" which can be purchased online.

Tips
Incorporate these into your healing journey:
1. Be consistent with the amount of time you "earth". 10-45 minutes is ideal. 2. Find a guide and use your resources to learn about best practices. 3. Journal your journey so you can measure any improvements.
Once you've learned to ground on your own, invite a friend or family member for some peaceful and intentional connection. We want to know if you give this a go! Tag us @thekindofconvo to be entered into a giveaway for a free grounding mat!

Are you an audio-book listener or a hardcopy reader? Regardless of which you prefer, the importance of exchanging stories is essential to human connection. Why, you may ask? Well, when you're on the receiving end of a story you are provided with an opportunity to widen your perspective. That means your opinions, views, and imagination continue to form while you process your productive day reads and even the spicy night ones, too. What's even more amazing is that the words you read are coming from an entirely different mind, in an entirely different time, in an entirely different place.
