What responsibilities does your rank entail?

“As a CUO of a first year platoon, we are mainly responsible for all administration and planning of activities during our training parades at school We also work closely with my Sergeant to ensure that our platoon is happy, adequately trained and safe as we prepare them for camp and passing out parade On camp, our role remains similar as we also pick up the responsibility of leading our cadets through trek.“

EQUIPMENT TIPS for AFX

CUO WILL ROGERS

“Ropes. Thick Ropes. Thick ropes are gonna help you sleep so well throughout the whole AFX.”

LCPL HARRY ROWE

“Make sure to take chairs, especially a chair with the back. It’s so comfortable to rest on it during AFX.”

CPL JEREMEY BLATCHFORD

“If you are a sigma cadet, you will probably take extra tent pegs. This can make your hoochies more stable and comfortable while you rest or sleep. ”

A Trip into the Past War Comes to Gowan Brae

During the Second World War, Gowan Brae became a significant site. Starting in August 1940, it was initially used for training purposes for the military. By December of that year, Major General HW Lloyd, the Commanding Officer of the 2nd Australian Division, established the divisional headquarters there In September 1942, Lieutenant-General Iven G Mackay succeeded Lloyd. Lloyd returned to his position with the 1st Australian Division from December 1943 to May 1945, after which the 2nd Australian Army resumed control until they finally departed from Gowan Brae in January 1946

The King’s Sch

During this time of occupation, the troops were involved in considerable maintenance work on the grounds. Many of the roads and drainage work that had fallen into disrepair were renovated, replaced, or added to during the years of the Army occupation

During that period, Senior officers lived upstairs, and downstairs became offices A wall was erected dividing what had been the drawing room into two rooms. Lloyd used the former library as his office and what is now the Harrisford Room was the Officer’s Mess. The Museum, which was in the Pool Room, was dismantled and apart from some of the display cases, nothing remains of the Collection Wooden Barracks were erected, one of which is still used for laundry sorting at Gowan Brae

In September 1946 a plaque was unveiled as a reminder of the time Gowan Brae played host to the Army during a time of conflict.

FOOD SECURITY

“I was so tired today but thanks to those snags that food security made, I can still continue the activities for today. It is so delicious that I had six of them thanks to spare ones left.”

“Who doesn’t love food security’s snags? People love it so much that every week, a bunch of CUOs come over to have some.”

“I am enjoying so much to be part of food security. Everybody is enjoying the food I made, especially CUO Jamie Wang.”

What is TRAINING doing today?

What are you guys doing today?

“Today, training platoon is conducting an 'amazing race' style activity for two platoons. There are different stations situated around school grounds, with different initiatives at each. Once a station has been completed, the platoon is sent to the next initiative, and they return to our base in TL2 after completing three total initiatives. The fastest group to return receives a prize at the end as a reward for their efficiency.”

How does this help the cadets in TKSCC career and AFX and after school?

“All our initiatives are structured around ideas of teamwork as well as testing the mental and physical fortitude of cadets. Every platoon who passes through our initiatives must work together to quickly and correctly complete activities, preparing them for the quick critical thinking and physical endurance necessary in various facets of their TKSCC lives. This holds especially true for the upcoming AFX, as cadets must bond well with the 'family unit' of their platoon to survive and thrive there.”

MESSAGE FROM RSM

“You don’t need to enjoy or like cadet corps. However, you need to follow the rules. You gotta respect the rules, and people before us who were participating in TKSCC and also respect the organisation. If you respect all of these, your life as a TKSCC cadet will be much easier.”

PADRE'S WEEKLY BIBLE VERSE

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

– Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)

This passage from Isaiah 41:10 gives cadets a great sense of encouragement by reassuring them that they are not alone in their struggles and hardships. It develops resiliency and determination by instilling faith in divine support and confidence in their abilities.
