parades?

Pranav

My favourite experience at training parades has been seeing the cadets improve in areas like abseiling and also getting over their fears. It has also been good to see how they have formed friendships with boys they have probably never talked to before in initiatives like Capture the Flag, leading them to an easy 2 0 win against CUO Wong’s 12PL.

Duncan

Meeting and connecting with students that I otherwise may not have yet, and forming new connections through fun and engaging initiatives that appeal to all cadets.

What has been your favourite experience at AFX?

Pranav

My favourite part of AFX is getting back from trek and knowing that you have passed arguably the hardest part of camp with the boys at the campfire.

Duncan

Sitting down after a day of trek and taking in the landscape and surrounding environment of AFX is very calming and a good way to relax and escape from everyday life.

What advice would you give future cadets?

Pranav

I would say that they should use their first years in the Corps to put themselves out of their comfort zone and try things that they have never done before.

Duncan

Be proud and grateful of the rich history of the Cadet Corps and the wealth of opportunities provided, the experiences and memories you will make within the Cadet Corps are one of a kind and should be embraced.

What has been your favourite experience at training

What has been your favourite experience at training parades?

Radman

My favourite experience during training parades is getting to know all the boys within the platoon through the various initiatives provided. Along with training parades preparing the cadets, they create the initial bonds and connections with everyone in the platoon that are sure to last over the years.

Alex

My favourite experience at training parades is watching my cadets immerse and experience all the challenges and highlights I did as a first year. Seeing them progress in their understanding of the TKSCC and maturity has been really rewarding.

What has been your favourite experience at AFX?

Radman

Looking back at all the challenges you overcame today and sitting around the campfire at night knowing you are alongside a bunch of other boys who have become some of your greatest mates.

Alex

My favourite experience at AFX is Trek. The careful balance of saving your energy and having fun running across mountain tops with your platoon is unparalleled to anything at camp Allowing you to further connect with your peers and cadets as you collectively cope with the challenges.

What advice would you give future cadets?

Radman

To acknowledge the experience as much as you can and get involved as much as you can. Not many schools get the same opportunity and many people take Cadets for granted after they have left school as they realise it’s a once in a lifetime occasion.

Alex

My advice would be to learn as much as you can in your first year. Ask questions and understand the intent and reason behind each and every activity. The more information and knowledge you gain, the better off you are in promotions.

A WORD FROM CAPT TYREE & THE Q-STORE PLATOON

PADRE'S WEEKLY BIBLE VERSE

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9

"Corps is a life skill, initially you may not realise it as one, but in 20 years, you'll recall what you've learnt and be grateful for the values instilled by the Corps."

This verse from Joshua reminds developing leaders to demonstrate courage in and out of the corps. As God commands us, it is essential for cadets in all their activities to bear the strength of character to say and do the right thing, even in the face of adversity. As leaders and followers, it is important to remember that as long as you stand up for what is right, you will have nothing to fear.

WORD FROM RSM WO1 SMITH & ADJT CUO HORNE

Corps is an enriching experience that presents cadets with a variety of opportunities as well as a range of challenges to overcome.
A

SIGNALS INITIATIVE

What is the initiative being run?

The Signals initiative involves teaching 2nd year cadets the basics of RATEL and radio. This allows them to properly communicate in phonetics, utilise the net, and understand the theory behind the intricacies of radio transmissions

What values of the TKSCC are learnt?

The ratel workshop allows cadets to grow skills in communication and confidence, as it allows the development of clear and accurate communication with RATEL.

How may the skills learnt in this Initiative be applied to AFX?

The skills learned through the ratel workshop allows cadets to properly utilise a radio, such as in emergencies. Holistically supporting the clear communication of information to Staff, CDTCMD, HQ and etc over large distances.

SPECIALIST PLATOON SPOTLIGHT

DRONES & ROBOTICS

What does Drones & Robotics do?

Each home training, the platoon works on refining their own skills over drone flying and the Robomaster S1 robots, additionally designing and building obstacle courses for exciting initiatives in preparation for the AFX The Drones & Robotics platoon also plans out other activities that aim to provide both an enjoyable and equally challenging experience for other platoons.

What is Drones & Robotics' role in TKSCC?

The main role of the Drones & Robotics platoon is to immerse all cadets with an educational yet unique experience with the basics of both drone flying and robotics through new technology. In doing so, we provide a fun learning opportunity to all cadets in order to enrich the TKSCC experience

Why should you join Drones & Robotics?

As a part of the Drones & Robotics platoon, you get to work with some of the most innovative tech in the TKSCC, including that of the likes of the Robomaster S1 and DJI Phantom drones We also hold the unique position of being the first Drones & Robotics platoon in the history of the TKSCC, giving us full liberty to shape the history and traditions of the platoon to our liking whilst also providing an enjoyable and educational experience to all platoons within the Corps all being great reasons to join the platoon!

SPECIALIST PLATOON SPOTLIGHT

ROPING

What does Roping do?

Roping platoon teaches first and second year platoons how to abseil safely during training parades so that Cadets feel comfortable and confident in their abilities. This year the boys in Roping have gone through professional training which will ensure that all ropers are certified abseiling instructors. During camp week Roping platoon runs two abseiling walls at Roping camp and a high ropes camp at Base camp.

What is Roping's role in TKSCC?

Roping’s role in the TKSCC is to ensure the safety of all cadets well completing activities such as abseiling or high ropes. We aim to give cadets an opportunity to challenge their comfort zone in a safe and friendly environment. We want all boys to find enjoyment in their Roping activities whether it be through doing a fun activity or overcoming a personal challenge.

Why should you join Roping?

Being a Roper provides you with so many opportunities to learn new skills and have fun while challenging yourself. You are also given the rare opportunity to be taught by professionals and to earn certification as an instructor.

At the start, 8 PL's CDT Matthew Crisp takes the win on a starting game of 21 Sticks. During a tense round of the CTF, 8 PL's Rocco Colosimo captures 6 PL's flag, bringing a hard-earned point for 8 PL. At last, after a tough match and a Platoon Number Shouting competition, during which 8 PL was louder, 8 PL ultimately brought home the first point for B COY in the 1st year company competition!

CAPTURE THE FLAG WINNERS

Rousing Speech

Shall we allow our audacious enemies to violate with impunity upon our territory? They, 20 Platoon, dare contest us and our dominance. Will you permit them to flee? They who carry terror into the hearts of your friends? You will not. March to them. Tear from them the patches they attained, the dignity they defend and the reputation they constructed. Familiarise them that a malediction follows those that violate the great 16 platoon. I have complete confidence that if all do their duty, we shall ride out the storm of war, and outlive the menace of tyranny, if necessary for years, if necessary alone. The result of our efforts? Unclouded glory.

FINAL

A draw. 16 PL would not go on to achieve "unclouded glory."

Both platoons hid their flags so well that the match ended in a draw.
