Inspired by the majestic tree
that stands tall over the field behind our large ballroom, The Willows is an enchanted venue not to be missed. The twisting branches and dancing leaves of the curly willow that is our namesake capture the breeze that sweeps over the surrounding hills of Lancaster County. Tucked away in the rolling fields, you can host a cozy intimate party or a large celebration in our charmed space full of roaring fireplaces and lofty ceilings. It’s more than an event space—it’s a storied destination within a beautiful landscape. When you see the willow, you know you’ve made it.

Cassi and Eric celebrated their wedding on their own terms, starting with a ceremony at Terrain in Glen Mills. “We wanted our love, our relationship and our life together to shine through,” Cassi says. A suspended scroll not only featured the lyrics to Coldplay’s “Yellow,” but the song also played as Cassi walked down the aisle. Afterward, guests snacked on a fun dessert: milk and cookies.

SHOO-IN Mickayel’s mom gifted her these brocade Louboutin beauties and thrifted the bride’s colorful jewelry locally, which Mickayel still wears.

THE RUNDOWN
The DJ spun Haitian-Caribbean hits in honor of the bride’s background, and later, everyone sampled mini Italian desserts to celebrate Benjamin’s heritage. Naturally, a caricature artist also made an appearance.
24
Mickayel always wanted a big wedding, but Benjamin Passione (30 and a freelance artist) thought they should elope. The solution? They made it official at city hall with a few witnesses, then threw a reception for 136 guests two days later.
PAINT JOB The couple
painted mini abstract canvases displayed on easels for their guests that doubled as escort cards and favors.
TABLE NUMBERS “When my aunt asked me about our theme, I said, ‘color and art,’ ” Mickayel says. For table numbers, she bought decorative paper and, with her mom’s help, used mod podge to affix it to cardboard numbers. These sat on top of art catalogs from the couple’s personal collection. The bride’s aunt arranged the flowers. SHOP FOR RINGS Try on and purchase your wedding rings—then insure them. (Now it’s starting to feel really real, right?)
CHOOSE A POINT PERSON If you don’t have a wedding planner or day-of coordinator, task an attendant or family member to be the go-to so you can relax and enjoy the day.
DECIDE WHAT TO WEAR Shop for your attire and schedule necessary fittings—don’t forget accessories. Choose what your wedding party will wear too.

F I N D Y O U R W E D D I N G S T Y L E We know—you’re probably figuring out where you should even start. We’ve got you covered. Once you download the app, the first thing you’ll do is swipe on images you love in our Style Quiz. It’s a fun way to help zero in on your vibe. Once complete, you’ll have your very own Wedding Vision (more on that on the next page). K E E P O R G A N I Z E D Not sure what to do when? No sweat—we’ve put together a checklist for you, and it’s totally customizable. So if Uncle Jeff is officiating, we’ll take “find an officiant” off your list. M A R Y C H A T M A N : A simple note on your wedding website and a small, concise sign advising guests that you’re having an unplugged wedding should suffice. Say something like, “We want our friends and family to be present at our ceremony, so we ask that you put away all cameras and cell phones. We’ve hired an amazing photographer, so don’t worry— this memory will be captured and we can’t wait to share the photos with you.” It gets the point across without cell phone shaming.

I’ve heard that, as the bride, I should get my hair and makeup done last so it’s the freshest. Is this true?
My partner’s father passed away and we’re hoping to find a few thoughtful (but not too heavy) ways to remember him on our day. Any suggestions?
B R I T T A N Y L O : Not necessarily. I actually always pick my bride as the first client for a few reasons. First, if you need your hair blown out and set for your hairstyle, then you want to be able to let it sit for the longest amount of time so it holds throughout the night. Additionally, the beginning of the day tends to be the most relaxing—it can get pretty chaotic as the morning goes on. From an emotional standpoint, you might be a bit calmer if you’re taken care of first rather than stressing that there may not be enough time for you to get ready. Plus, you’ll be able to chill before getting dressed and make sure you love your look before pictures begin.
A L Y S S A L O N G O B U C C O : Your wedding day is a celebration of you and your partner’s love, so it should be a celebration of the people you love too. Even if they’re no longer with you, their memory can be honored in incredibly special and meaningful ways. Think of how your partner’s father would have liked to commemorate you two had he been able to be there, and work that into the day. Did he always hit the dance floor when Earth, Wind & Fire came on? Play something by the band as the last song of the night. Was he a big fan of family pingpong tournaments? Set up a few tables for a showdown during cocktail hour in his honor. Giving a nod to a deceased loved one’s essence—and personality—is the greatest tribute of all. ››

ADVICE
Make a grand entrance with mom by escorting her down the aisle.
PLANNING
B R I T T N Y D R Y E : If space allows, having two aisles is a great way to showcase both parties equally with a dramatic meeting at the altar. If you go this route, make sure you have a photographer and a second shooter to capture both of your entrances and reactions. Another popular option is walking down the aisle together to symbolize unity. If you’re torn between the traditional and creating your own twist, why not combine the two? One of you can walk halfway down the aisle solo, where you can then meet in the middle and take your final steps to the altar together.
MAKE TRADITION
In the spirit of #MakeTradition, how can couples personalize their wedding day looks? B E C K Y M U R R A Y : Start with your favorite item. What’s your go-to accessory or signature addition when you dress for everyday life? If you feel your best in a bold lipstick, don’t feel the need to go nude and natural on your wedding day. If you’re known for rocking quirky socks in your nine-to-five, pick a new pair just for the occasion. Personalization is just that: personal. Wear what makes you feel the most “you” on your wedding day, not what you think you’re “supposed” to wear. #MakeTradition is all about being confident in the customs you inherited while staying true to what makes you unique.
FASHION
How much should my venue inform the style of my dress? M A R K I N G R A M : Aside from your own personal style, nothing influences your wedding fashion more than your venue. Obviously, an outdoor daytime garden wedding and a formal evening ballroom affair require very different looks. A clean and modern warehouse pairs well with a sleek sheath dress, while a detailed ball gown is perfect for a fairy-tale château. Let the venue be your guide and find a gown that will complement the setting.

Summer solstice
Warm and sunny Summer Solstice was the perfect day - and the perfect theme - for Alison Bredimus and Matt Ruoff to start their married life together. With Harry’s Savoy Ballroom as the backdrop for their ceremony and reception, the longest day of the year kicked off when their daughter, Fiona, led the bridal party down the aisle. This celebration of eternal love and happiness continued on as the duo and guests enjoyed Harry’s festive atmosphere, delicious dishes and flavorful beverages for which they’ve become renowned. The entire day was flawlessly executed by Harry’s team and expertly captured by C Pruett Photography.

ALL ABOUT
FLOWERS WHAT MISTAKES DO COUPLES MAKE WHEN THINKING THROUGH DESIGN?
CAN DO Couples can hire Devon & Pinkett not only to execute florals, but also to help with any and all aesthetics.

WALK US THROUGH THE FIRST CONSULTATION AT DEVON & PINKETT. At the first appointment, we collect what I call “the bones” of the wedding. I gather an understanding of the location, the size of the wedding and the general vision for the day. We like to understand the dream and then connect it to reality, all with a realistic budget in mind. Depending on the range of service, we’ll put together a floral mood board or a full event design board. We like to use that time with couples to show them our designs versus telling them what their wedding will look like.
WHAT TIP SHOULD COUPLES KEEP IN MIND WHEN CHOOSING THEIR FLOWERS? Consider the scent! You might love lilies, but do you love the way they smell? Memories are marked by scent, so consider what smell you’d love to remember forever.
WHAT’S THE AVERAGE COST OF FLOWERS, AND HOW CAN COUPLES ON A BUDGET SAVE? In Philadelphia, the average cost of flowers is anywhere from $8,000 to $15,000, depending on the size of the wedding and the venue. To save, choose a time in which flowers are in less demand. If you’re getting married around Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Christmas or New Year’s Eve, the cost of flowers is going to be significantly higher. Another way to cut costs is to choose your setup wisely. If you want to save, do mostly smaller round tables. Long, wide tables are expensive to fill up, and when they’re sparse, they look forgotten—which is a faux pas, in my opinion.
WHAT ARE SOME WAYS CEREMONY FLOWERS CAN BE USED AT THE RECEPTION? The best way to reuse flowers from the ceremony is to have standing pieces (think: two large urns flanking the altar or space where you’ll stand). These two pieces can easily be moved to the reception space while you enjoy the cocktail hour. Also, if you want an installation around the head or sweetheart table, see if you can plan to use it as a backdrop in the ceremony space first. That’ll get you a bit more bang for your buck. If you or your family is hosting a brunch the next day, ask if you can repurpose the flowers by switching them from a rented vessel to a throwaway vessel. If you’d rather donate the blooms, consider hiring a repurposing company like Forget Me Knot (ForgetMeKnotFlowers.org), which serves South Jersey and Philadelphia. They’ll come to your venue, remove the flowers and put together flower arrangements for hospice care facilities or hospitals. It’s a beautiful, charitable way to start your wedded life.

Couples often feel pressured to know exactly what flowers to use. Leave it to the experts. If you just show us your desired shapes, sizes and styles and mention your favorite flowers, we’ll take that into consideration—and be able to suggest a few beautiful flowers you may have overlooked or didn’t know about.

THEIR STORY Kelly Kurteson (30 and a retoucher at Anthropologie) and Michael Cammarata (28 and a musician) have a way of making something old into something new. Exhibit A: Michael proposed with a repurposed ring made from his grandmother’s diamond and Kelly’s great aunt’s ring setting. The pair looked to the past for wedding design inspo. “Our style is a mix of contemporary and ’70s glam,” Kelly says. Cool style (like Michael’s bolo tie), classic tunes and shades of red filled the day. — LO U I S BAR AGO NA

FELINE FRIEND Kelly and Michael’s cat, Kevin, not only played a starring role in their engagement, but also joined in on the fun during their wedding celebration. CAKE The newlyweds cut into a rich coconut cake complete with strawberry compote, mascarpone whip and vanilla buttercream. SIGNAGE Playful illustrations of the couple’s cats welcomed guests to the ceremony at New Liberty Distillery, framed by deep red roses, dahlias and cascading greenery.

RECEPTION When it came to the party, Kelly and Michael kept their decorations minimal. “The distillery is in an old stable, so we wanted to let that shine through,” Kelly says. SIGNATURE COCKTAILS Partygoers sipped the aptly named Yada Yada Cammarata, a pomegranate and rose water drink inspired by the pair’s hashtag. KITTY COOKIES At the reception, Kelly’s mom presented the newlyweds with a purrfect surprise: cookies baked to look like their cats.

THEIR STORY “When I was young, I pictured lime green and hot pink for my wedding,” Gabrielle Rosenfeld (30 and a writer and entrepreneur) says. “As I matured, it became emerald green and rose gold.” With that refreshed color palette in mind, Gabrielle and Jesse Santiago (36 and a wine and spirits distributor) looked to vintage opulence for design inspiration, choosing velvet for the bridesmaid dresses and the invitation suite, and finding old pieces in honor of their love of antiquing. In keeping with the couple’s candid humor, guests took home TP favors reading: “For when you cry from happiness and pee from laughter.” — LB

CENTERPIECES Gold trumpet vases filled with white tulips and greenery combined vintage glam and neutral minimalism. ESCORT CARD DISPLAY Guests found their seats by selecting calligraphed cards affixed to emerald-green ribbon hanging from a custom box. SETTING Delaware residents Gabrielle and Jesse tied the knot at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, in part because of the city’s meaning in their relationship. “Our first overnight trip was to Philadelphia,” Gabrielle says. “And PAFA’s mix of old and new, historic and modern, reminded us of our own taste.”

THEIR STORY Elizabeth Crowder (30 and a librarian) and Andrew Serota (32 and an attorney) seamlessly blended both of their passions into one wedding. The couple welcomed guests to the Philadelphia Glider Council, a nod to Andrew’s lifelong love of flying. “From there, I tried to artfully combine our interests into something cohesive,” Elizabeth says. THEIR STORY As a wedding photographer, Grace Winter (28) has a few connections. She and her partner, Rory Wolf-Bielawa (27 and a contractor), chose the Down Town Club because she has photographed there often. “I planned everything with amazing vendors I’ve met through work,” Grace says. This included working with her florist on the wood arch topped with greenery as well as the bouquet, complete with rosemary. THEIR STORY Rachael Kennedy (29 and a retail recruiter) and Joe McGinnis (32 and works in radio promotion) met after Joe worked for Rachael’s parents, both DJs, so it was only fitting for the couple to fill their wedding with music. “Our theme was rockstar chic,” Rachael says. For their save-the-dates, the couple made each guest their own mix CD, topping 100 different mixes (that’s more than 1,000 songs!). The innovative ceremony seamlessly led straight into the reception, where Joe took over DJing duties with even more playlists. — LB

FIRST DANCE Being the music lovers that they are, Rachael and Joe listened to what she says were “hundreds and hundreds” of songs to find the right one. In the end, they chose Neil Young’s classic “Harvest Moon.” SIGNATURE COCKTAIL Texan friends helped concoct the spicy Manheim Mule, the couple’s innovative tequila and ginger drink. FAVORS Just as they would at any good concert, guests took home custom wedding merch, including koozies and T-shirts.

THEIR STORY Kate Thomas (28 and works in corporate retail) and Matt Englebert (27 and a business solutions architect) turned their wedding into a celebration of the different things that feel like home—not the least of which is their dog, Koda. “We’re obsessed with her, simple as that,” Kate says. “We incorporated her into everything we could, including the invites.” The pair tied the knot at Rehoboth Beach because Kate spent time there growing up. “Delaware is small, but it packs a punch,” Kate says. “The beach is my home.” — LB

SEATING CHART DISPLAY Partygoers found their seats by selecting photos of themselves with Kate and Matt. “We found pictures that really represented our relationship to our guests,” Kate says. “It was like an art piece showing us with all of our favorite people since birth.” WHISKERS AND WHISKEY The couple’s pup graced the invitation suite and greeted guests with a celebratory smile on the signage next to Matt’s custom whiskey bar.

RECEPTION After the ceremony, everyone headed to large sailcloth tents. Soft blue taper candles, cross-back chairs and neutral place settings topped tables. SWEET FAVORS Guests took home mini-size apple pies in jars handmade by Kate’s godfather, Eric. “He makes the very best pies, and having him make that many was really special,” Kate says. “People raved about them afterward.” WHEELS UP Kate and Matt hit the ground running in their unusual ride: a rickshaw.

THEIR STORY For Courtney Harringer (26 and a physician assistant) and Jeffrey Grudzinski (30 and an anesthesiology resident), flowers took on a greater meaning than simple decoration. “We filled the chapel and the hotel with spring flowers, which exemplified the idea of new growth and new life as we came together for our wedding day,” Courtney says. “All of the arrangements were stunning without being traditional.” The pair even completed their cake with fresh flowers picked straight from their florist’s garden. — LB

PRIORITIZE YOUR TOP MUST-HAVES
Before you write a single check, figure out how much you can afford to spend. That’s where we come in—with The Knot Wedding Planner app, we’ll help you settle on the right number for your celebration and offer suggestions for how much of that budget you should put toward each part of your wedding, from catering to cake. Plus, we’ll help you turn money to action with
When it comes to wedding planning, there’s no shame in playing favorites. Before you do too much research, sit down with your partner and make a list of each of your celebration priorities. The goal? This is all about compromising and figuring out what’s going to make you and your partner the happiest. Once you have your list, move forward with booking those vendors first and spending your money accordingly.
selection, opt for a high-impact item, like a wow-worthy charger plate or patterned tablecloth. Anything else will likely go unnoticed by your guests and isn’t worth the up-charge.
GO FOR GREENERY It may sound harsh, but the best way to save money is to slim down your guest list. Each person you invite adds to your budget—you’re likely shelling out at least $100 per person between catering and entertainment—so compile your invites thoughtfully. Consider giving a plus-one only to couples that are engaged, married or living together. Then, if you still need to size down, put a few hard-and-fast rules in place, like “no coworkers.” The tighter you keep your count, the more money you’ll have to put toward other details, like a string quartet for the ceremony.
HIRE A WEDDING PLANNER This may seem counterintuitive, but hear us out. Spending up front on a knowledgeable wedding planner can pay off big time for your budget and your sanity. A skilled pro will help you navigate everything from vendor selections to contract negotiations, ensuring you’re spending smart throughout the process. Another bonus? They’ll have a handle on venues and services in your area, so they can help you score insider-only deals and achieve coveted looks for way less.
Good news—this piece of advice is totally on trend. Big blooms often up the price per arrangement, so stretch your floral budget by opting for a greenery-heavy look instead. Utilize a textural mix of greenery for larger moments at your wedding, like a hanging installation. Then, concentrate your flower usage to areas that will be center stage in photos, like your bridal bouquet.
OPT FOR A ROAMING DINNER If you’re hoping to save on catering, and a bare-bones buffet isn’t really your style, look no further than the roaming dinner. Basically an all-night cocktail hour, an up-and-at-’em dinner consisting of passed bites and serve-yourself stations is a fresh (and frugal) take on the traditional reception meal. You’ll save some money since there’s less waitstaff needed, and guests will get to mingle all night instead sitting down for a formal meal. Just make sure the variety (and amount) of food guests would expect of a traditional dinner is still there, with lots of options.

PLAY UP YOUR VENUE DÉCOR Choosing a party spot with good bones is a priority when looking to make the most of your money. Getting a great deal on a ballroom won’t matter if you have to then spend big to cover up ’80s wallpaper and flooring you hate. You want to make sure your chosen venue feels 85 percent of the way “there” without having to add anything extra. When touring potential locations, pay attention to things you can’t tweak easily (or without spending a fortune), like good lighting, an open space, inoffensive wall coverings and decent flooring. From that “blank” slate, you can then work with your vendors to come up with décor accents that fit the space’s characteristics (and your budget), instead of working hard to disguise them.
SKIP THE RENTALS Trust us, no one is going to remember whether you chose silver or gold flatware on your wedding day. When it comes to rentals, it’s best to work with what your venue has to offer. While it may be necessary to rent some items, when it comes to purely stylistic choices, avoid upgrading unnecessarily if your budget doesn’t have the wiggle room. If you must elevate your venue’s basic dinnerware
Stick with the tabletop items your venue has on hand to save big on rentals.

STYLE + PLANNING
It’s important that the photographer and the couple are on the same page about what they value in wedding pictures.
The photography industry can be complicated to navigate as a newly engaged couple, and hiring your wedding day photographer is arguably one of the biggest decisions you make throughout your entire planning journey. After all, this will be the person or team responsible for capturing all those emotional, tangible moments (not to mention all the beautiful details you’ve spent months planning) that will allow you to relive your day 10 or 20 years from now. Don’t stress—we’re here to help you out. We’ve rounded up our best advice to guide you in narrowing down your style and finding a true-to-you photography pro perfect for capturing every second of your unique celebration.
and contrast-y editorials of a favorite fashion blogger, then maybe you’ll want to seek out a photographer with a flair for the exaggerated and dramatic. By pairing your aesthetic choices (hint: you figured these out in step one) with the “vibe” you desire, you’ll end up with a photography blueprint that you can then easily articulate to potential pros to help explain your goals when it comes to your wedding pictures.
The first step to finding your dream photographer is a fun one (seriously!)—just go get inspired. Spend some time poring over any and every kind of imagery you love, such as sunny home décor shots, a fashion blogger’s Instagram feed or moody avantgarde French movie posters. Save each image that draws your eye as you go—then, once you have a good collection of inspiring photographs, take a step back and try to narrow in on what draws you to them specifically. Is it the soft pastel color palette? The offthe-cuff happy grins of the people in the picture? The interesting angles and perspectives? The more you familiarize yourself with what details you like, the easier it will be for you to eventually identify that same quality in a potential photographer’s portfolio.
DECIDE ON A “FEELING” Once you and your partner have figured out what inspires you image-wise, dig deeper and dissect what feels most authentic to your relationship and celebration, and how you envision your eventual wedding album looking. If you’re a timeless couple that has your heart set on formal, Vanity Fair-like family portraits, you may gravitate toward a more classic photography style. If a lot of your inspiration ended up being fly-on-the-wall images that bottle an authentic moment in time, then lifestyle photography may be the right choice for you. If you fell in love with the sharp

DO YOUR RESEARCH Now’s the time to hit the web and find the pro who will bring your day to life. Browse The Knot Marketplace for photographers (and other vendors) in your area and price range, then peruse their portfolios and social media channels to identify if they’d be a good fit for your day. As you browse, ask yourself questions that are good indicators for a successful “match.” How do they capture the moments that are important to you? Have they shot in a venue similar to yours (bonus points if they’ve worked at your venue before)? Do they seem friendly and personable with their online audience? If available, check out reviews from past couples as well. Then, go ahead and send an introductory email with a bit of info about you and your soon-to-be spouse, your event (don’t forget to include your date!) and the vision for your day—you can even attach a few inspiration images you love from their portfolio, if you’d like. Once you’ve chatted about specifics (like whether their cal is even free to shoot your wedding), schedule some time to talk with them either on the phone or via video chat before signing on the dotted line so you can get to know each other on a personal and professional level. Why? You’ll be spending the most time with them on your wedding day, and you want to feel comfortable as they capture some of your and your family’s most emotional moments. ››

Ask about any additional fees that could add up too, like having to pay for your photographer’s travel and lodging. Finally, settle on an image delivery date and make sure it’s reflected in your contract so you know exactly when you can expect your shots.
PREP FOR THE DAY OF
140
FINESSE THE CONTRACT To get the most out of your photography investment, you’re going to want to make note of several important points when choosing your package and reviewing your contract. Most photographers offer a variety of services to suit their couples’ individual needs. This can include everything from day-of edits and digital proofs to adding a second shooter, scoring tangible prints and ordering a gorgeously assembled album. With all those options for customization, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and feel unsure about what you actually want or need. When you’re ready to make things official, present your chosen photographer with your budget and rough day-of timeline and get their opinion on the best package for you. The amount of time they spend at an event or the number of shots they provide you with may be flexible, so see if you can find a middle ground that works for both of you. Now is also the time to inquire about the cost of any add-ons you’re
Instead of putting together a detailed shot list for your photographer, pass along your final day-of timeline a few weeks ahead of your wedding and give them an idea of what images you’d like captured (like a picture with each bridesmaid or detail shots of the heirloom jewelry you’ll be wearing). Then, let them do their thing! As long as you’ve provided a schedule that you’ll (mostly) stick to, they’ll be able to budget for time spent on your details, dance floor and everything in between on their own accord. Ahead of the wedding is also the time to give them a heads-up on any familial or friendship intricacies they should be aware of, like divorced parents who may want separate family portraits, a grandmother that needs to remain seated for shots, or a groomsman and bridesmaid that don’t get along (hey, it happens). If you’re hoping to get your wedding published online or in a magazine, relay that to your photographer as well. This way, they’ll know to put a little extra emphasis on snapping shots of all your amazing details and will likely come armed with gorgeous styling accessories, like ribbons, linens and more—all with the goal of helping your wedding day aesthetic truly stand out.
BE RELAXED AND READY Guys, take a big deep breath with us now. You’ve put a lot of work into finding and working with the right photographer up until this point, so—like with all your pros—it’s time to put your total faith in them. In the week leading up to your wedding, reach out to re-confirm all the important details (like your venue location, day-of timeline and any surprises you’ve planned for your guests or partner) and answer any lingering questions they may have, then chill out. The only thing that’s left for you and your partner to do now is enjoy yourselves and go get hitched— your pros will happily take care of the rest.

Accessorize in Style Found your dress? Now it’s time for the fun part: adding accessories you love. Here, the comprehensive guide to pulling off a totally personalized look. BY SHELLEY BROWN
PATKRSS20_Sect_11_(155_158).indd 155
CLASSIC Simplicity is key to nailing timeless bridal style. For sparkle that won’t clash with a classic gown, invest in understated jewelry like pearl drop earrings, diamond studs or a thin tennis bracelet you’ll want to wear long after your wedding day. To make a more dramatic statement, consider crystal-encrusted or pearl hair clips, or a long, sheer veil with lace edging that matches the fabric of your gown. Looking to infuse a pop of color into your streamlined ensemble? Give a nod to the “something blue” tradition with a pair of baby-blue heels or a sapphire pendant. Another thought: Pair a black-velvet sash with your dress. It’s a bold accessory that creates a sophisticated contrast and accentuates your waist.

FASHION + BEAUTY

FASHION + BEAUTY Layer on lots of different bracelets for a cool, mismatched effect.
RUSTIC Give a nod to your outdoor surroundings with nature-inspired details in a stonewashed palette. Lush flower crowns with a mix of blooms or sprigs of baby’s breath are a great place to start. To add some sparkle to your ensemble, go for antique gold, rose gold or pewter jewelry embellished with raw gemstones or crystals. If you’re going all in, skip the fancy heels and opt for distressed boots in leather or suede. For fall or winter nuptials, keep warm with a faux-fur coat, denim jacket or textured knit wrap.
Saying “I do” with your toes in the sand? A seaside locale calls for effortless wedding attire and fun, colorful accessories. Freshwater pearls, tropical statement earrings, cowrie shell bracelets and delicate layered necklaces are right on trend. If you’re feeling bold, a straw hat decorated with local, fresh flowers makes for a cute photo. Where footwear is concerned, less is more. Forgo shoes altogether or swap out your heels for embellished sandals. If you want the added height of a heel without any of the fuss, white or metallic grosgrain wedges or platforms offer more stability on the sand than traditional stilettos or pumps.

ROMANTIC A touch more luxe than a rustic wedding, gauzy fabrics, floral embellishments and soft, pastel hues emphasize the dreamy feel of romantic nuptials. Whether you’re wearing a sexy, curve-skimming dress or a frothy, embellished ensemble, consider wearing a long, sheer veil for a dramatic detail that won’t distract. Or, channel your inner Renaissance heroine with a boho Juliet cap veil plus floral accents. Polish off your look with lots of whimsical jewelry (we love pieces that incorporate oversize flowers, butterflies and even bees), or focus on one statement piece, like a pair of ornate chandelier earrings.
158
VINTAGE This style can refer to a wide range of time periods, so first narrow down the feel you’re going for. Is it the sophistication of the ’50s or the glamour of the ’20s? If the former, a birdcage veil is a totally retro option and works with a variety of dresses. If you aren’t crazy about the idea of wearing a veil, hair combs and headbands with classic touches like lace or pearls also add polish to any hairstyle. To channel the glitz of the Roaring Twenties, opt for feathery and beaded headbands, art deco statement accessories and swinging fringe details. Vintage style also lends itself to old-fashioned jewelry. Repurpose your own family heirlooms or browse local estate sales and vintage stores to find special pieces with an antique vibe.

In Pennsylvania there is a three-day waiting period to obtain the license, which is valid for 60 days in that state. In New Jersey there is a threeday waiting period to obtain the license, which is valid for 30 days in that state. In Delaware in-state residents must wait 24 hours; out-of-state couples must wait 96 hours to obtain the license, which is valid for 30 days in the state of Delaware. If either party has been previously married, he or she may be asked to present a divorce decree or death certificate. No general health requirements or blood tests are needed. LAST LOOK
We were in the middle of our first dance and realized we pulled it all off,” Alexandra says. “We put a lot of hard work into our relationship and wedding planning. After losing Michael’s mother the year before, we dealt with tremendous grief. Our smiles show just how grateful we are to have each other on this ride.”
