The Temple of Holistic Learning!

Wandering on the dusty roads of the past and the promised streets of the future, we often try to find that place where one enters with nothingness and comes out with fulfilment. Despite constantly being connected with the hypothetical strings of reality, we often try to cling to the strings of fiction to find reality and make sense of it.

Considering this as a puppet show at a theatre, we all move in strings as pulled by the master, and we as humans try to break the shackles of strings to break the structure. Giving a sense of freedom in the core of the strings, the institution of learning moved from religion to redemption. Though both these words mean different but have a very reliable relationship with each other.

If thought about it conceptually, religion and redemption are based on beliefs and actions, respectively. While one gives the direction, the other provides the momentum to move forward.

While the master of the theatre pulled the strings to maintain strong control, the learning process started.

Humanity's attempt at redemption started from religion, and as society progressed, the institutions started to hold on to the cliff of learning and admiration.

Loosening those strings of control, the flagbearers of religion and redemption both started to take the form of institutions. And India is a huge and diverse country; the temple of learning started to flourish all over the country since the beginning of civilisation.

Being one of the most progressive societies humankind has ever witnessed, the renowned institutions started to take the form of educational institutions. Moreover, the light came to these institutions a few centuries ago, when the structure was opened with possibilities that defined realities to come in the future.

Later, these educational institutions became the forerunners of admiration in India, becoming the temple of learning, the road to redemption, where holistic development was the ultimate aim.

Connecting the dots of strings, realities, theatre, puppets, religion, and redemption, The Knowledge Review magazine ventured to find India's Most Admired University of the Year, 2022

While harbouring different temples of holistic learning, we not only found some of the most admired universities in the country but also curated some new learning styles that would enhance your learning.

So, pull out your string and start walking on your road to redemption through holistic learning.

Flip the pages and start the process of breaking the structure.

Also, have a happy read!

opportunities, ATLAS focuses on enabling entrepreneurial leaders who are empowered to innovate and become the job-creators of the future. Start-up days, Shark Tank and Hackathons are some of the various initiatives to develop entrepreneurs.

Carrying Forward the Tradition of Creating Global Leaders

The Indian education system has effectively produced all major global leaders, CEOs and CXOs of the world's leading conglomerates. It has also produced immense talent that has created an impact on the development of India and other countries across the world. However, the era of technological advancements has given birth to a new workplace culture where skills, effectiveness, teamwork, employability, abilities to mix and work in cross-cultural workplaces and thinking and acting global are essential. The real challenge in front of today's education system is preparing the youth for industry 4.0 by fostering innovation, transdisciplinary learning and 21st-century knowledge and skills.

Reimagining the new education policy for the Indian education system and

ATLAS's approach to cater to it, Dr Shahani says, "With the declining employability Index of Indian graduates, it's time for India to focus on employability, skill development, entrepreneurship and innovation. The Indian education system needs evolution which will require the reimagination of Indian universities as envisioned in the National Education Policy 2020 as well, and also required greater collaboration among government, industry and academia."

They have the freedom to choose from a plethora of electives from all five schools. This enables them to have a chance to explore a unique experience where design, management, film, media, and technology students find themselves under one roof to work together to find creative solutions to challenges faced by the world. Also, an added emphasis st on electives for building 21 Century skills allows them to become futureready visionary thinkers and leaders."

Leveraging Education for Societal Change

ATLAS encourages students to get actively involved in community projects from the ideation stage to

impact documentation and take on leadership positions to address social issues such as entrenched inequalities, protect human rights and create an inclusive world. " We also strengthen the capacity of our students to become independent entrepreneurs and develop innovative solutions to complex social problems through the Social Responsibility Internship Programs, research, and experiential learning. We envision enabling a community of student socially responsible global leaders who actively work beyond spheres of corporate engagements and become active change-makers on the ground," adds Dr Shahani.

leaders. In the coming few years, we would want to see ATLAS SkillTech University becoming an epicenter of learning for students in India and abroad and a place to nurture global leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs for the future."

Educator's Advice to the Future Educators

Advising the aspirants entering the noble profession as educators, Dr Shahani says, "Educational institutions are facing increasing demands to prepare students for rapid economic, environmental and social changes, for jobs that have not yet been created, for technologies that have not yet been invented, and solving social problems that have not yet been anticipated. To those who aspire to venture into this sector, the advice would be that we should always build an education that equips learners with the skills and competencies to address the unknown and the sense of purpose to shape their own lives and contribute to others."

Changing Educators Roles of in the Indian Education System

The Knowledge Review 21 19 |

EEducation has been a part of the Indian soil's never eroding culture. The change has played its role every now and then, incomplete without the struggle stories of great educators in India, which form the basis of the Indian education system.

The membrane surrounding the nucleus of education has developed over the years, leading to changes in understanding, strategies, ways of teaching, and perception of education. Widening its scope, it has led to new approaches in teaching techniques along with an increase in expectations from educators. Shaping the young minds to become responsible adults, they are expected to be versatile, respectful, and unbiased, and the list goes on.

Creating Rapport

The bond between teacher and student should be based on trust and understanding. Knowing the student on different levels is considered important for educators as it helps them to understand and teach better. It also involves a part of the overall development of a student. This does not necessarily include getting straight A's on every test, but it surely does involve building a better personality as a person in life.

Up-Grading

The time when A grades were only what mattered is long gone. Today it's more about learning, understanding, and experimenting. Excelling in different domains has become evident, and those 180 areas of intelligence are more widely believed and accepted than ever before. Instilling the confidence to excel in the desired field is crucial as it carries an ability to change a life. This is the responsibility shouldered by educators.

Accepting the student and believing in their ability gives them the confidence to accept and soar through the skies of the competitive world.

Method of Teaching Progressively reaching the global mark, the Indian Education System has involved technology which has provided great help to both educators and learners.

According to the research, the visual presentation of any study positively affects students as any material presented in visual and auditory format is recallable 50% compared to just reading it, where the memory stored is only up to 10%. Using this research, educators are using digital methods for better teaching and learning process.

Knowing Psychology

As it comes from everyone, teens are the most problematic young people in the world, or are they?

Going through an understanding of the world, changing thoughts, physical changes, and shift in responsibilities, teenage life is probably one of the most difficult ones. Most of the teens going to school spend almost more than half of the day with their class and teachers. The observance is a quite vigilant aspect in such a setting. An educator has the privilege to notice the changing behaviours and discipline the students. Specifically, in Indian Education System, these changes are quite noticeable.

Educators often try to converse with young adults about their problems and show them how to deal with them better. Including child psychology and understanding of cognition, prosses have become mandatory for educators to understand their students better and help them.

Online Education:

Online educators have a huge fan base and immense respect among the community of educators. The credibility and teaching prosses involved are looked forward to by many, the general opinion being it is easier to understand and grasp. Though teaching online could be extremely challenging as there is no direct interaction between the teacher and the learner, it is something that has surfaced and has been loved by students during the pandemic.

Indian educators have always been famous for learning things; however, a shift can be seen where understanding and learning are more valuable than mugging up the information.

Conclusion:

The educator is not the only one that comes in class, writes on the board, reads a few things, and goes away. The educator is the person that comes and observes his students, knows what they want and is aware of their needs along with their academic progress. Educators' role in the Indian Education system is no longer just academic but has spread out to that of shaping one's life and further shaping the nation.

CMR UNIVERSITY Bengaluru

Chasing the Growth ARC that Defines the Future of its Students

When Albert Einstein said that creativity is nothing but intelligence having fun, it really meant catering to the passive skills like passion, curiosity, etc., that creative person instills in themselves. However, in this modern world, that seed of creativity had to be sowed somewhere and at some time.

Creativity, on the other hand, is not just limited to the field of arts. Intelligent people have seen doing creative things in scientific discoveries and even in making a fruit named technology startup to a bigger than life company.

But the question often arises, where do these creative people get that idea, and where are these passive skills

developed? Well, in this formal education structure, the seed of creativity is sowed during the very first step of formal education.

Catering to that need for the instilled creativity and the other necessary passive skills to make the future generation a complete package of intelligence, having fun with creation to have a global impact, CMR University was started.

With a humble beginning and small beginning in the backyard of the CMR family, CMR started its first kindergarten and, over the years, contributed to making education fun and the younger generation creative.

The Ethos of CMR University CMRU's strength and backbone throughout the years of its establishment have been - the late Sri Chikka Muniyappa Reddy , a visionary and educationist in whose memory the CMR Jnanadhara trust was established as a tribute in the year 1991. The Trust strives to deliver quality education through its institutions of learning.

With a small and humble beginning as a kindergarten school in the CMR family's orchard, it has now reached the major milestone of establishing its

own private university, CMR University (CMRU), Bangalore. CMR is a private university in the state of Karnataka, established under Act 45 of 2013. The University has established state-of-the-art campus in Bengaluru equipped with all amenities that provide an intellectually stimulating learning environment.

CMRU is the first Indian Private University to implement Design Thinking problem solving approach across all its Schools. Students of disciplines as varied as Management Law, Engineering, Architecture, Science, Humanities etc., all study methodologies of Problem-solving via Design Thinking processes and focus on creative solutions to some of the most pressing and important global and local challenges.

The Pedagogy and Philosophy

learning environment, CMRU has two important Programmes to enhance and explore the abilities of each studentcentered learning.

Taking Challenges, Head On CMRU is at par with the changing dynamics of education globally in offering a holistic environment, having conversations on intersections and inclusivity, promoting learning through practicality, and offering more functional knowledge than theories. Post the unprecedented lockdown, CMRU has been focusing specifically on the Mental Health of its students.

Aiming to make the Indian youth mentally equipped to adjust to the newly and rapidly changing environment, the Department of Psychology from the School of Social Sciences and Humanities has set up a Well-Being Center, which includes a comfort zone and non – judgmental space assured for the students to

engage in personal cum professional conversation with the staff.

While facing the challenges put forth by the global changes in the education system, CMRU strives to "Strongly hold on to the promising aspects of the Indian Education system and leave behind the unpromising one."

While illustrating the overall outlook of the university, Dr Sabitha Ramamurthy says, "CMRU highly acknowledges the latest National Education Policy and strives to adhere to it. CMRU focuses heavily on the instructional core and learning process. It deploys digital education at the right amount for accessibility, learning and teaching. We strive to build a strong, trustworthy relationship between parents and teachers. We are continuously seeking to build new approaches for the betterment of the students."

Innovative Design Thinking Programme

The Design Thinking Programme (DTP) was introduced mandatorily for students across the Schools to learn through design-led innovation. DTP acknowledges the human being's function with varied perspectives and emotions and offers engagement and dialogues that are academically relevant. Secondly, the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) provides students with opportunities, learning

management at the university believes that all students should have a plethora of learning opportunities, workshops and transformative experiences during their time at the university.

While sharing the operations of the management and staff, Dr Ramamurthy asserts, "The faculty at the university operates on friendly terms moving away from the notions of a conventional college teacher. The faculty engage in meaningful discussion on contemporary trends, policies and changes with the students and incorporate it into the courses that

they are handling. Rather than the chalk and talk method of teaching, we are adopting research-based strategies to help the students learn better."

5 Ways

Teachers Help in Students Holistic Development The Knowledge Review 21 37 |

Whenever you think of building a house, every brick used to make it has equal importance in making the house. Similarly, the basis of educational development holds a major part in the student's character and morale.

Teachers are the guiding light to students and their educational journey. After parents, teachers are often considered as child's second parents. Covering their academia, they have a huge influence on the child's personal development.

As each child is unique and needs to be dealt with differently, teachers play an integral part, especially in the early stages. They tend to have an impartial approach toward students, which creates a healthy environment for students to observe, learn and inculcate those in their own lives too.

A competent teacher encourages the overall development of students. Teachers have the chance to groom children into future leaders through education. That's where the holistic approach comes into the picture. Holistic development refers to the growth of students in areas less discussed like social, emotional, mental, and intellectual aspects for their growth as a person.

Let's take a deeper look at the five ways how teachers accelerate students' growth toward holistic life.

Positive affirmative environment

Students need an affirmative approach to them. Students have a rebellious urge, so shouting or yelling was an oldschool method to teach, but it's not recommended today. Teachers need to create a healthy and positive manner that encourages students' creative side. Teachers can take interactive activities like debates, quizzes, competitions, tests, and many other methods that could be used to make it fun for students.

Embracing the emotions of students

When it comes to students, important steps begin at home and then at school. The first few things that need to be looked at should be treating children with kindness, compassion, and love. Their curious minds question and learn by stumbling at every step. These early years are for making mistakes and learning from those mistakes. The Comfort zone needs to be a safe place for students to express their emotions without any hesitation or embarrassment. Teaching them to forgive and forget is the most important thing to be taught early in life.

Emotional and Mental Well-Being

The development years are most vulnerable and crucial in the aspects of affection. The security they feel is built on the attachment they feel with the trust, which leads to a strong foundation for future emotional links for their future. Both parents and

teachers must maintain a secure and friendly environment for their holistic growth.

Mindful Teaching

Students have an inquisitive mind that leads them to questions, which helps them share them in class. Open discussions for doubts and queries make classroom interactions open and engaging. Students develop confidence and attain a comprehensive exchange of thoughts and knowledge altogether. Motivation from students helps them learn from their mistakes and acknowledgement and encourages success.

Allround Academic development

Holistic development ensures students receive academic lessons and schooling where they understand their emotions and mental stress. Alongside teaching them to build healthy and functional relationships as well as inculcate team spirit and resilience.

Build such a system where students aim to achieve greater heights in their careers while being a citizen who looks forward to contributing something to the country. Hence, holistic development is important right from the beginning of the school year.

Teachers and principals need to focus on bringing a co-creative curriculum integrated to ensure the holistic growth of students on a daily basis from the early years.
