Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS: A Forerunner of Glowing Future and Growing Opportunities
Editorial
‘‘
E
ducation is the movement from darkness to light.” – Allan Bloom, a renowned American philosopher, classicist and academician.
People often think that getting a fancy degree from a reputed institute will build one’s reputation, form a valued personality and most importantly, will make the person educated. But many spiritual leaders frequently raise the question that does an academic degree really makes one educated. Among the other blurry substances on earth, this remains an inexplicable question too.
Humanity: The First Footstep towards a Peaceful Future
It’s no more about who is more educated or who possess a more-valued degree. It is about the quality of education one is receiving, it is more about the knowledge one is gaining and the values one is learning. The moral, ethical and intellectual level determines a person’s actual depth of education. Though the world today is running after money and power, people are being a part of never-ending rat-races and losing the real values of life. That’s where corruption begins and that is the exact reason of humans turning inhuman., It is high time the educators and educational institutions move forward and take the long-needed step towards building humanity among students. Many socialists say that a man with an inhuman mind is of no use to the society irrespective of the number and nature of degrees he can boost of. Rather, an illiterate man with a highly human mind is more valuable in the community building activities. This is why the importance of humanity is rising. Ultimately, humanity is the only thing that can build a peaceful world and it is the first step indeed that should be taken by the institutes to cause an overall development of a student's face faction at large. In this regard the spiritual legend Swami Vivekananda had once very rightly said, “Education is not filling the mind with a lot of facts. Perfecting the instrument and getting complete mastery of my own mind is the ideal of education.” T R

ocated in the state of Perak, Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) is the place where students from all over the world come to pursue an extraordinary career. It offers one of the most enigmatic and atmospheric location in the country. It sits on a wonderful land with its 400hectare campus surrounded by verdant hills and with dotted lake. Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2017 named Perak as one of the world’s top 10 regions for the year, placing the state in the same company as Taranaki in New Zealand and The Azores in Portugal. It is only a two and half hour drive from Kuala Lumpur. The campus is also accessible by train and bus. UTP is the first and only private university in Malaysia to be rated a maximum 5-star overall rating in the QS (Quacquarelli Symonds)™ University Ratings System. It has
Cover Story a potpourri of faculty, staff and students from more than 60 countries all around the world. The campus is designed from the open space to well-decorated and connected network of indoor and outdoor spaces. Lab and academic facilities are integrated and connected to encourage interaction. As a student, one will experience a sense of belonging to a learning community. A Perceptive Leadership The university attributes its achievements due to the solid foundation laid by previous Vice Chancellors Datuk Dr Rosti Saruwono and Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin Kasim and the dynamic leadership from immediate past Vice Chancellor Datuk Abdul Rahim Hashim who drove the research and excellence agenda for the last few years. The university has also marked many milestones over the last two decades, including accolades and recognition for the standard of teaching, the quality of academic programs and research achievements. These milestones and achievements would not have been possible without the direction of PETRONAS and the leadership of UTP’s previous Vice Chancellors, as well as the contributions of the university Board, Pro Chancellors and Chancellors, past and present. Their experience, influence and guidance cannot be overstated – the university is where it is today thanks to their support and assistance. PETRONAS has connected UTP to a global network and given the university the corporate culture of an international company. Other people recognize PETRONAS standards which gives its graduates recognition of excellence as well. This is especially important for the seven-month internship the university arranges for 1,500 undergraduates every year. Professor Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib as the newly appointed UTP Vice Chancellor will drive UTP forward towards global prominence. University’s Exceptional Financial Aid The university plays a key role in seeking donations and forging new partnerships with individuals and organizations. With the establishment of its foundation, Yayasan UTP or YUTP, in 2007, it supports UTP’s future development as an academic institution of excellence that promotes creativity and innovation. It also provides opportunities for the next generation of students to pursue knowledge, especially in an effort to promote and enhance education, in the fields of engineering, science and technology, as well as it helps to prepare them for a career in the increasingly challenging global economy. Career Opportunities UTP offers a seven-month internship program which is recognized by Talent Corp as the best-structured internship program offered by the educational institutions in Malaysia. A degree from UTP is a first step towards a bright career in the sector of oil and gas, energy or any of the science and technology related industries. It offers multiple opportunities for the students to learn directly from prospective employers – through internship stints, industry talks and visiting lectures. More than 600 local and global companies offer internship opportunities, including PETRONAS, Shell, ExxonMobil, Schlumberger, Halliburton, Technip, BASF, GE Oil & Gas, Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team and Hitachi Ltd. A student can apply the fundamentals of their studies to complete real-world engineering and technology tasks and projects. They gain confidence and understand the complexity, challenges and revel in the thrill of working life. Events of International Reputation World Engineering Science and Technology Congress (ESTCON) is a biennial event organized by UTP. It is an excellent center of stage for knowledge sharing and intellectual discussions; for all academics, researchers, scientists, engineers, interest groups and industry experts from all around the globe. Each ESTCON will feature different theme that is relevant to the current world affairs. For ESTCON2018, it will cover a wide range of fields in innovation, engineering and technology as well as in humanities addressing the latest trends and challenges that the world is facing in embracing the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Words of Trust “My experience during my undergraduate studies was an important push in the right direction. My lecturers were personable and we were able to have meaningful dialogues. One of the professors used to tell us that one goes to university to school the thought process besides gathering academic knowledge. This holds very true – apart from studying, I learned a lot through my interactions with the campus community”. - Dr Chan Tuck Leong, Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering 2001, MSc in 2004 and PhD in 2008 “I look at my learning in UTP from two perspectives, from the academic and soft skills angle. The academic learning helped me on all the theory to be applied when I entered the workforce while the projects, assignments and group tasks were vital for my soft skills development. I learnt to manage time, work in a team and carry our presentations”. - Muhammad Shafiq Shahrul Amar, Bachelor of Technology in Computer & Information Sciences in 2006 “UTP offers a platform for personal development. Here, I have the chance to develop my sporting abilities, especially in athletics. The management has been very supportive all these years. I have been exposed to people from different cultures, I learnt leadership and sportsmanship, and I am being prepared for the current global environment. Here, I have found friends who make me feel at home and who have made me feel like family”. -Previna Arumugam, currently pursuing Bachelor of Technology in Petroleum Geoscience “After completing my BSc in Electronics and Biomedical Engineering I started work as a teaching assistant at my alma mater the University of Gezira in Sudan. It was here that I learnt that PETRONAS was offering scholarships for staff of some Sudanese universities to further their studies at UTP. Although I had not heard of UTP, I applied and secured a scholarship to undertake my MSc in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. I completed this in 2011 and subsequently commenced with my PhD in the field of Biomedical Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems. In the time that I have been at UTP, the university has helped shape my personality in terms of leadership, project management and communication skills. I have grown academically through meetings with other academicians at conferences, workshops and seminars”. Team Skills: An Organization’s Top Priority
W
hen employees join executives in truly owning the responsibility for business, an exciting new sense of teamwork takes hold” – Punit Renjen
When new individuals join a workplace, one of the most important things they observe is if the other employees have a good sense of teamwork. A lot of companies have multiple groups working on different sections of the company. Upon achieving a certain level of balance, team work always yields best results for the company. But for this spirit to be seen in every person, it needs to be initiated from the senior most level of the company. With the right efforts and steering in the right direction a business or organization can become capable of growing to greater heights. Implementation of Team Skills In a lot of cases, team work needs to be gradually built into the team. It is necessary to have it implemented from the senior most position to the employees. They need to undergo trainings throughout their careers which will showcase how they're going to endure various situations. This gives one an idea of how the individual will fit into a team. Compliment and Reward Goes a Long Way In an organization, employees work towards various goals that they personally have, but largely focus on giving the company their best. In a lot of instances they achieve things that are worth giving them some credit. The best thing one
26
can do is give them some recognition for it. It can be in the form of verbal appreciation, official declaration or even in the form of a gift. Gestures like these can encourage the employees to work even harder and provide efficient results. The way one reacts to another’s success can speak a lot about the entire team's thoughts. Positive feedback can only do well for all the members of the team. This helps in building up a company’s persona and works towards attracting more employees. This can only mean more manpower for the company yielding better profits which is always a necessity. Brainstorming towards Success When there is a group of individuals working on the same thing, it is essential that they know how each one of them works on a particular thing. One can only know this when they share their ideas and listen to others ideas as well. When creativity is shared it always results in something better. It is important to know that each individual of a team plays a noteworthy role and have their own share to contribute in a project, activity etc. To build an effortless brainstorming ability, it’s necessary to have a couple of activities that can act as a mean of breaking the barriers. It can be a simple activity of games or music. It helps individuals break the monotony of work and bring forth their creative side, which continues to stay on even when they start working. This helps in bringing out their full potential and eventually providing good results JUNE | 2018

when it comes to execution of any plan or project. Learn and Let Others Learn In order to have employees’ cooperate and build a better rapport with the senior executives, the seniors themselves need to make sure that they are approachable. This needs to be established right from the very beginning. When a senior member of a company approaches the members of a particular team, initiating the conversation in the right way with a clear focus on the message that needs to be conveyed is very important. The senior be it the team leader or manager needs to be a good listener as this is the ability that will allow them to hear more ideas to be heard, ultimately it can bring out ideas that can be taken into consideration. The senior has to make sure to treat other employees with the necessary respect, because respect is never a one way street. A boss needs to understand that even though the others are people who work for him, it’s also their company and they are allowed to make some of the decisions or pitch in their ideas. If they don’t seem right, politely declining and putting up an alternative thought can also give the employee an idea of how things work in the office. Humor Leads to Better Creativity Workplaces are meant to be a place where new ideas are born, implemented and put out into the world. No matter what field an individual works in, it requires a decent amount of creativity and a list of rejected ideas. When people are given the space to work to their complete T H E

capacity, it gives everyone better results. But there are times, when the mind freezes and faces a blockage of ideas. Instead of adding on to the mounting pressure, a break of a few minutes along with meaningful yet humorous conversations and most importantly a supportive environment on behalf of the seniors and team members can help the person bounce back almost instantly. The mind is definitely a web of complex and simple ideas. In order to keep it working to its complete potential it requires a gentle nudge and nothing more. A person also learns to trust the teams’ creative ideas which eventually add on to a better result. Following the 70:20:10 Strategy When a company is established and the employees help build it up, one must remember that this all was a result of everyone using their own individual abilities and skills combined to form one giant showcase of ideas. For anyone to be a part of the team, it requires a 70:20:10 concept of learning. This simply means that 70 % learning happens through daily tasks, 20 % through conversations with the team members and 10 % through any training that the company asks employees to take up. These are the skills that need to be learnt practically as no institute and imbibe it into an individual. And, life without skills is hard to imagine and difficult to live. T R

THE INFLUENCE OF TECHNOLOGY IN THE EDUCATION INDUSTRY
R
esearch by the Institute for the future entitled “Future Work Skills 2020 have indicated that students should be developing broad competencies such as sense making, social intelligence, novel and adaptive thinking, cross cultural competency, computational thinking, new media literacy, transdisciplinary knowledge, design mind set, cognitive load management (which is the ability to discriminate and filter information) and virtual collaboration. With the notion of building competencies for the future, the advent of Industry 4.0, the fact that students today are born into a digital world, it only points to the fact that traditional teaching methods should evolve to cater to future needs. Digital disruption is everywhere. Classrooms, lectures and textbooks are giving way to innovative new teaching methods. One of the major advancements is digital distribution, which means students can experience more personalised content and enjoy greater access to university courses. We have seen this in the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) offered by a variety of providers including Coursera and EdX. University students are demanding more from technology in the classroom and the campus. Digital natives are entering university with greater digital expectations – they want high performing technology in their educational and administrative experience which reflects the connectivity that they experience in their daily personal lives. The kinds of new technologies emerging have the potential to transform the student learning experience. Let's consider the technology that has helped shape the education industry. At it's very core is blended learning. At its simplest, blended learning is “the integration of classroom face to face learning experiences with online learning experiences” (Garrison and Kanuka, 2004, 96). It forms the core of which a whole array of technology can be stacked upon. It marks the start of an educational transformation and how we think about education. Blended
30
learning makes learning more collaborative and rides on the concept of getting students more engaged. It provides pedagogical variety in teaching methods and promotes retention. The online element of blended learning requires a platform where learning out of the classroom takes place, called the Learning Management System (LMS). The rise of the LMS, made flipping learning (or better known as the flipped classroom) more popular. It allows for teachers to deliver instruction in a more engaging form, including videos, audio clips, comics, simulation, gamification and interactive games such as puzzles, drag and drop, games etc. Students can now learn online at their own pace and do some learning activities online before coming to the face to face class, allowing for personalised learning to take place, and for learning boundaries to widen. This could be reading an article, watching a video, listening to a podcast or completing an activity such as a quiz. Participating in a discussion thread is another popular flipped learning method where students can do their own research, post their thoughts, and reply to their peers in a respected full way. This creates a good level of engagement and collaboration among students. Blended learning has also transformed the role of the teacher to a facilitator where they create content for blended learning, facilitate the students learning and encourage collaboration, crowd learning and crowdsourcing for information. Teachers can use technology to create, implement, and measure personalized lessons. They can use the digital tools to gather immediate feedback and use the information to customize subsequent lessons. With technology, the mode and design of assessments have also changed, allowing teachers to design flexible and innovative assessments such as virtual discussion threads, blogs, wiki's, video based assessments or even a comic created with animation software etc. This mirrors the world that the students live and will potentially work in, and

students are further motivated when they engage in task that they perceive as preparing them for the real world, indirectly developing a host of useful competencies for the future. Mobile learning is also moving at a rapid pace as smartphones become a norm. Students can access the content anywhere anytime at their own pace. Teachers are now using the many apps available in the android and iOS platforms to aid the learning process, create excitement in teaching and engage students. Apps like Kahoot and Socrative creates a gamified presence in the classroom and engage the students. Technology also allows for learning on the job or real-world learning to take place. This is super critical in the age of industry 4.0. Once a student has learnt a topic online or face to face, they could reflect their thoughts online, complete a piece of assessment online, collaborate with their peers online and then collaborate with fellow working students from various organisations online and apply their new-found knowledge to their real world of work and share their findings or issues for further discussion with their peers. This form of crowd learning is very powerful and fuels innovation, which is so apt in the advert of Industry 4.0. Another form of application is when industry practitioners connect to students via video streaming platforms to share their knowledge or to mentor students. This is the best way of learning as knowledge is up to date and relevant, supported by technology. Use of videos is another powerful form of learning. Students today are one of the biggest video curators and consumers. Videos are the best way to engage learners. Videos can be self-made or sourced from channels like YouTube. In addition to this, use of social media in teaching and learning helps to build collaborative communities, increases participation and encourages debate. Today it has become a norm to integrate social media into the LMS or into students learning. Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality is another hot technology shaping education today. Augmented Reality animated content in classroom lessons could catch students' attention as well as motivate them to study. Some examples could include adding extra data, fun facts, historical data about sites or events, visual 3D models, would give students a wider understanding of topics. This is in addition to making the content more interactive and engaging. With Virtual Reality, learning can be immersive and similar to the real world or it can be fantastical, creating an experience not possible in ordinary physical reality. This makes learning and assessment more meaningful. Other technologies such as Google Translate are equally powerful for studying foreign languages without a dictionary or for use by foreign students. Another powerful development is the use of analytics in education which can help to transform back office functions, allowing administrators to create a 360 degree view of the student to enhance their university experience. It also allows the teacher to offer a more personalised learning experience to the student. Technology is certainly reinventing and reshaping the education experience of all students. The future classroom will no longer look the same as it is today. We are entering exciting times and learning will be more sophisticated and competency based as we progress. T R

M.A.D School: Changing Perceptions with Creative Ideas
“We think, creativity without thinking is no better than a blank canvas. The survival of the fittest is an adage of the past. Right now, it's about thriving with forward thinking” There are many schools that lay claim to be teaching technical skill sets, but only a few can hone the strategic thinking skills. In this world the chaff is always separated from the wheat, the world rejects the ones that can't think strategically. Strategic thinking can get you on the top of the world and helps the ones that are already perched on the top. Evolving continuously is their motto and they plan to stay ahead of the digital game. It actually takes a lot more than just planning to truly thrive. The M.A.D school imparts the students with the skill set, the know-how, the experience and all that many other schools promise but can't do justice to. The exceptional creative and strategic skills taught in this school are way beyond the imagination of the other school. M.A.D. School by Chatsworth Mediart Academy was established in 2003 at Singapore. This school offers very unique MAD formula, a powerful program that integrates marketing, advertising and design. This school has partnered with industry professionals and leaders, and hence their curriculum evolves as the market evolves. Change is constant; to stay ahead of the game, they

They also work with 4As (Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies in Singapore) and Workforce Singapore to place students into marketing roles in local companies by funding up to 90% of their salary and upgrading of digital marketing skill sets. Professional workshops in Creative Thinking There are various workshops that this school organises for its students, and one such workshop is the creative thinking workshop, where students are taught the method to construct, create and develop ideas that can be applied across 'n' number of mediums and platforms. Through such workshops students are made to understand the difference between effectiveness and creativity. They learn how creative process fit into the planning process. LANGUAGES & THE
‘BROW N I ES’

anguage impacts our daily lives, no matter what our race, religion, class, caste, age or gender is. Since its inception, language has always helped us to express our feelings, desires, and queries to the people around us. Learning a new language was once considered nothing more than a hobby, but as the world continues to become increasingly connected, learning a language other than one’s native tongue is now considered to be a necessity. Advancing technologies have afforded us the ability to communicate, no matter where we are in the world, amplifying the importance of foreign language study. If we are travelling, whether for a business purpose or just for pleasure, a willingness to adapt to a new culture is essential. Adaptability includes being ready to communicate with new people in various languages. It will be nothing but unjust to expect the people, of the country which one is travelling to, to understand and communicate in one’s native language only. Being unable to communicate to people makes it extremely difficult to adapt and get along with those whom we meet. After all, men’s biggest fear is to be lonely and not able to speak.

The ability to communicate in multiple languages is now becoming important in the increasingly integrated global business society. No matter what career we choose, if we have learned a second language, we always have an additional advantage. Communicating directly with the new clients and companies in their native language is one of the first steps towards founding a long- lasting and stable international business relationship. Being able to do this automatically puts any multilingual person miles ahead of his or her peers in the competition for jobs. Learning to communicate fluently in multiple languages not only gives people a sense of acknowledgment & appreciation from the people interacting to, but also provides an additional job security and advancement opportunities in today’s uncertain economic times.
• Language skills are best for business
Advantages of learning foreign languages
Gone are those days when a commodity produced in a locality was to be consumed by the closest of the boundaries nearby in almost all the certainties. In an exceedingly shrinking world, most of the businesses simply cannot flourish if they are not aimed and addressed for the people across the globe. Now a day, multiple businesses work closely with establishments in other countries; and it is thus very obvious that they need several kinds of workers who can aptly communicate in multiple languages and understand other cultures as well. A workman who knows German or French, the Chief of a company who knows Spanish or Turkish, or a salesman who knows Russian or Chinese can work efficiently and affluently with many more cases and in many more circumstances than someone who knows only one language at the most.
• Opening up a plethora of job opportunities
• Personal and recreational satisfaction
Learning a new language always opens up a ton of career opportunities. Speaking two or more languages certainly improves our employment perspective. As the world is changing fast, many countries around the world are hiring global-minded people who can at least speak one foreign language. Even in small companies, chances are there that the ability to speak a second language will set us apart from the other applicants.
Of course, along with the other reasons for learning a new language, no one can deny the fact that it is always fun to pronounce a word with resonances and tongue rolling. Some languages have certain social connotations that invoke feelings when heard or spoken. For example, German—it helps us to understand how to pronounce words when ordering an apfel strudel (Apple Strudel) or asking for the way to the autobahn (Motorway) or in French- saying Bonjour means (Hello). This feeling of competency and control can alleviate much of the stress. Further, it helps indeed in establishing healthier connections and crossculture friendships as well.
• Establishing connections and cultural friendships Dealing with another different culture enables people to learn and gain a profound understanding of their own culture. It helps to develop our interests in the poetry, literature, films, music or other aspects of the culture of people speaking a particular language and belonging to a particular place. It opens our window to another new world, another opportunity to know people belonging to another set of cultural tradition. In addition to the offer it makes, it also helps us in understanding what others think about our own cultures too. It can thus be very aptly said that it facilitates the exchange of perspectives across the globe. Foreign languages expand one’s worldview and limit the barriers between people as barriers create distrust and fear. Foreign languages expand one’s view of the world, broadens one’s mind set, liberalize one’s experiences, and make one more flexible and tolerant. In a nutshell, it makes one confident and ready for any challenge that the world can offer.
38
Regardless of the reasons for learning a new language, we should always explore new linguistic territories. Strong language skills are such an asset that promotes a lifetime of effective communication with a long-lasting impression. Learning multiple languages will always serve to enhance the quality of life, and even if we never use that language in any practical circumstances, we almost certainly will enjoy the time spent educating our self. Language learning is a unique art in which we rarely have to spend much money to find a passionate instructor or fellow learner, and the adventure of understanding a new tongue is one experience that no one can forget any sooner. Therefore, we must foster an environment that promotes multilingual learning. T R

TECHNOLOGY: Revolutionizing Education Industry
&
Making Learning more interesting
T
he art challenges the technology, and the technology inspires the art.” – John Lasseter, a famous American Animator and Filmmaker, and also the Chief Creative Officer at Pixar.
It is true that we – humans are increasing our dependency on technology day-by-day. It is one such component which is not only getting into our veins instead it is entering into our blood cells. The time has arrived that we can hardly imagine an hour without technological devices. Despite having numerous effects, technology offers multiple positive effects which create the foundation for our discussion, i.e., technology and its influence on the education sector. How technology is revolutionizing the education industry are as follows: Internet and its influence on the Young Minds Since its inception, the internet is influencing every sector that exists on earth. It is not just making progress or helping things to move ahead faster; it is penetrating the minds of humans. Gone are the days when the internet was just a public utility. Today, it is more personal. From personalized newsfeed to dining choices, the internet is becoming intelligent and making things easier for public life. In the education sector too, the internet is getting into the nerves. Nowadays, students hardly sit with a giant dictionary book while looking for a word’s meaning, they “Google” it or type on the search bar of any popular search engines like Bing, Yahoo or Google. Those enormous books of Encyclopedia are getting extinct now. There is hardly anything on this planet that the internet cannot help us with. With the internet, life is easier, and knowledge is free. It appears that internet asks people, “If you are looking for something, the answer is here.”

Learning on the Couch Old blackboards and chalks are rapidly vanishing with the emergence of the smart-classrooms. Students are adapting to the new technology-based education system where teachers are referring to learning videos instead of book chapters and asking students to learn from computer-based study modules with slideshows, mini video clips, and other online study modules. Slowly, it will vanish too, and there will be the rise of personalized educative techniques. With the personalized approach of educative methods, teachers are organizing online lecture sessions and online doubt clearing sessions for students. These online educational programs are encouraging people to study from anywhere, anytime. Some people start working early due to economic pressures but desire to study further, and that is where technology comes into the scenario to help people study at their own time while leaning on the couch. On the other hand, there are places where schools are far from reach; their technology can make an outstanding impact with online schooling programs. Soon a day will come when schooling can be done at students’ own pace and their place. Implementing Analytics for Better Learning Technology is renovating software and the entire IT industry. There are well-updated and well-equipped schools which are implementing analytic software to observe and track students’ learning processes. With such software, teachers are keeping a note and monitoring each student's learning process, style and progress. With the influence of technology, educators and even parents might organize virtual study groups to help pupils learn and exchange knowledge with losing time for traveling. It is a well-accepted fact that discussion widens up the views and opens a new perspective towards everything. It is believed that these online study groups with the influence of analytics will help students to learn better as well as teachers to track students’ progress better. Higher Learning from the High School level Isn't the entire education system transforming? Educational institutes, even high schools, and colleges are introducing high-tech courses like nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, automation, and robotics to enhance students’ interest and knowledge about the subjects at a very early age. The institutes are introducing students to robots and robotics at much lower levels to expose them to the practical learning experience and get hands-onexperience while learning something. The education is redefining itself and technology is the fuel to that. T R

A.I. and Machine Learning and its Impact on Education Technology
A
.I. or ArtiďŹ cial intelligence and Machine learning are some of the terms which are creating a buzz all around the world. The importance of machine to our lives has given its growth at a rapid pace. A.I. and Machine learning are the next level of the technological revolution where the machine meets human knowledge and intelligence. It sounds interesting and complicated too. But in a true sense, it has a great deal of importance in almost every sector of our lives, including the education system. That means the machines will be ďŹ lled with human intelligence to understand the level of human intelligence! Let us simply the factor for a better understanding. Inclusion of A.I. in Human Lives It is very interesting or rather relatable to say that the importance and the presence of machine and the technologies related to them, were in ancient days too. There are quite a number of examples scattered all around the world to vouch for it. But the expansion of this unique technology in recent times has a colossal effect on our lives. AI and machine learning is currently crucial part of our lives we at times don’t even realize we are using it at an extensive

Tech-Talk level. When anyone calls an Uber or Lyft for a ride, he/she gets to know the details of everything, from the distance to the expected reaching time, the car's location, name and number of the driver for contact, and these are nothing but simple way ML providing information to the users. Facebook is a perfect example for A.I. conducts which scatters from suggesting the names by identifying the face for tagging a person, or offering relevant pictures to create a particular album. The shopping sites too suggest probable preferences as per one’s previous searches and browsing history. All these are nothing but getting the help of the world of A.I. and M.L. for us. Impacting on Education Technology When A. I. and M.L. have left no stone untouched, it will be underestimating the power of A. I. and M.L., if they are not thought for the educational advancement. In fact, it is making quite an improvement in this sector. Till the recent past the world was only known to one method of leaning and that is interactive and mostly instructive between the teachers and students. But this method includes some faults and Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence can deal with them professionally, to create a positive impact on the students. Let’s get to know how? • A school or any institution allots one teacher for a good number of students, and these students can be very different in their personalities, and the weaknesses and the strengths of these students are different. But it is not possible for a teacher to understand them all while focusing for the course. • There is still very limited recourse in this world to educate the specially abled students. The scarcity of teachers and the proper equipment and method of teaching them, are some of the major issues. But A. I. and M.L. are the powerful resources which can solve these issues perfectly and efficiently. • ‘A teacher for every student’ is a concept that is still farfetched for this massively populated world. But with

the artificial intelligence, it will be easy to provide the teaching guide for every student in every corner of this world. • Elimination of bias attitude of a human teacher is one of the best parts of A.I. and Machine learning. The fact is understandable that, it is difficult for a teacher to see every student of him/her in the same light. There are preferences which can reflect in the method of teaching or providing grades. • Leaning at one’s ease and in own pace is the most scientific method of learning, rather than pushing the students to learn something in an allotted time, as every student has their own ability to grasp something. This factor gets denied in our education system. But when there will be the option for ‘a teacher for each student’ and the teacher (A. I. and M.L.) will be most patient todeal with the need and ability of each student, study will never be a nightmare for the kids. There are already a number of apps which are proving assistance to be a great help for the kids for learning, which one can avail for better learning. But there are still a massive scope to enhance the quality of the sector of education through A.I. and machine learning. Some of the institutions have already started with the procedure of adding the help of A. I. and M.L. in their training process, but the majority of world institutions are still to improve in the latest aid of technology. The future is too promising for the coming generation to avail the opportunities to learn in the most unique way possible to become more resourceful for the need of the time. A report suggested that “While 16% of U.S. jobs will be lost over the next decade as the result of artificial intelligence and technology, 13.6 million jobs will be created during that time due to the trend.” So the need for A.I. educated students will be escalated in the future and it is high time to get our future generation prepare for it.
