‘‘ Women: The Powerhouse of Inspiration
T
he more we say about women, the less it appears. Some say women are mothers, some say sisters, some say wives, some say friends, while others say that they are the powerhouse of inspiration, motivation, encouragement and aspiration. We say, “Women are women”, they are their own identity, and not their fathers’, husbands’, friends’ or anybody else’s. Even though they are trying hard to achieve their dreams, be independent, build their own identity and show the world their capabilities, something is holding them back; our typical society with our typical thoughts can be one of the prime reasons behind that. As per reports recorded through a survey in 2017, it apparently seems that in India about 58% of women still require permission to visit the local grocery store. And, almost 80% still seek for permission from a senior family member to visit a health care center. The word “Empowerment” might seem too heavy to express, we feel, that’s a term by which women should be defined with. Though the women in this nation still rarely have the freedom to choose even their husband, the nation is making huge efforts towards the development of the country and also the upliftment of women. “She” will soon, rather “She” is already in the forefront of the industry, making major changes in the world and turning every “Impossible” into a “Possible” thing. Whatever might be the situation, no matter how worse it turns, education is the tool which has the power to eradicate any terrible situation and bring in positivity into the scenario. Education and knowledge are the two most important items which can take the world forward and make it more civilized and most importantly, a better place to live in. And, the powerhouse of inspiration, i.e., the women are using this tool and moving ahead towards the formation of a better world. T R

of having Stronger Female

Literacy
T
he continuous and sustainable development of any country and nation primarily depends upon the kind of citizens it possesses. In simple words, it directly depends upon the growth of its citizens. Any person’s growth and survival depends on various parameters such as their personality development, kind of communication i.e., skills of communication, hygiene etc. but most importantly their education. In Today’s male dominant society where there exists more number of males in corporate etc., it’s good to see the contribution of male in the national development but males’ contribution is not enough. This development can be further enhanced with women empowerment, especially with stronger female literacy. This is because if women will progress, they can provide a good foundation and base so as to say serve as a helping hand. The benefits are not merely confined to it. It is a known fact that females possess a different mindset, thinking skills and have the ability to think about any problem with a different perspective. When it comes about decision making, we always prefer men but if we make women a part of it, they can actually penetrate it with a different approach and can give us various solutions which might have been little difficult if we would have taken only men’s opinion. Even at family level, since mothers’ are not educated though they possess a different vision but as it is not polished, they are not confident enough to participate in it. Hence, merely men of the family are involved for deciding the future of the issues confronted with while educated mothers are proficient enough in teaching their children, imparting values and giving a new direction, new shape to the future of their children. To bring a message change, even a single inspiration is enough. Say, even if you provide good education to a girl and she achieves a big stature, she provides a massive boost and motivation, a light of optimism and hope for the other aspirant girls and women. She conveys a strong message that even they can achieve what they desire for, it does not matter how difficult the struggle is.
18
The ultimate point is, “They can achieve what they dream of”. The best example is of Sudha Murthy. Prior to her, female candidates were not allowed to apply for the job in Tata Company but she took it as a challenge, based on her good academic performance and confidence, she made it possible and became the first female to work in Tata. She was the initiator and since then, the number of women working in Tata has increased. Even a big company’s trend of not recruiting women was changed as she was literate enough and had a challenging approach. The same applies to every female. When a woman achieves a big stature or a position, she opens the doors for other women as she is aware of the inherent struggle she went through i.e., struggle of establishing own self, struggle of rejection from the society and struggle of proving herself. She knows the problems that she went through; how she solved them and also possible methods she could have adopted to make her path easier. As she is literate and experienced, she understands the right way to eradicate similar problems for women empowerment. The fundamental point, through which everything initiates, is “Female Education”. Women education also benefits as when due to education, if a lady achieves something big, she gives a shock, a stimulus to those primitive and conservative males to change their mindset towards the image of women and their empowerment, giving them a new prospect to think. Though they may not accept such women but at least can side line them which open the door for other females as now, they would have less people who would have retarded them. Very rightly said by Nelson Mandela - “Education is the best tool you can use to change the world”. T R

n all realms of life, it takes courage for a woman to stretch out her limits, to express power and to fulfill her potential. Now she is also a proud breadwinner caressed as central figure at home shouldering responsibility with her male counterpart. This monotony broke off significantly after world war two and till today the dazzling effect can be seen.
The United States of America has always been seen as the exemplary model of gender equality. Attesting to this statement, several women have emerged as global leaders in business today earning the title of most influential

WOMEN IN BUSINESS personalities for the same. Starting with social platform Facebook, many female employees are excelling in their designated post. One such amity is Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook. She anticipated and made the company’s IPO as much up to 100 billion USD. Being criticized for her step at the beginning, she has been able to show that how prowess decisions can amplify the resources. As a reward to her finesse anticipation, she has been made a member of the Board of Directors at Facebook. Another victor in this field is Virginia Rometty. Popularly known by her nickname ‘Ginni’, she is a cerebral Business executive. Agility contributes to immense experience Experience is valued more than any quality in the business world. Some individuals question about the agile stamina of a woman. Few individuals question about maintaining the same status in professional life by women after a certain age. To answer them, Savitri Jindal, an Indian Businesswoman pioneering at the age of 67, is chairperson emeritus of Jindal Power and Steel Ltd. She is displaying impeccable governance and quality leadership through her long-term experience. She is sought for every decision making crediting her vivid knowledge. Taking Adversity as a Measure to Expand Time and business graphs never remain same. It is as gliding as waves in the ocean. The way we choose to tackle that phase is important. For several years, Businesswomen have stood like pillars protecting their organization from adverse time. This can be stated by an incident recalling Irene Rosenfeld, CEO of Kraft. When the economic world was hit by global recession, many businesses were torn apart. Small and medium term businesses were unable to mitigate themselves from the bizarre of low cash economy. Kraft ltd., then under Irene, decided to split into two groups. One was Grocery business and another was Global snacks business. Though the initial months were excruciating, later it regained its graph. Today, it is one of the most celebrated businesses in North America. Thus, a daunting attitude can not only save the organization, but also lead us to ways never discovered before. Serving as an Inspiration Women working and taking the lead not only defines the shift in thought process from orthodox to heterodox, but is opinionated as tremendous source of positivity in and around the organization. Their nonchalant attitude promotes peaceful discussions and avoids unnecessary chaos in

decision making. Chanda Kochhar, CEO of ICICI bank, has led the banking industry to a new scale and has made ICICI to emerge as one of the largest private sector banks in India. She is serving as a role model for many entrepreneurs in the country who are incepting their business at an investment of small amounts and planning to make it big. Legendary figure Lila Poonawalla, an Indian businesswoman, philanthropist and humanitarian worker is an idol of success through struggle and dedication. Losing her father at an early age of three did not make her determinations weak. She continued working tenaciously and was the first Indian girl to complete mechanical engineering. She has given extraordinary contributions in the field of humanism and education for girls aspiring for professional carriers. With being CEO of Tetra Pak; a global company dealing into packaging for 90% beverages of the world; she has shown zeal for technology and innovation. She has been awarded as Padma Shri Bhushan, the highest civilian award by President of India and also Kings Award from Sweden recognizing her diligence in the business world and noble intent. Women are truly a source of courage and wellspring of compassion and are blooming with the same zeal as Business executives and professionals. Mahatma Gandhi, a renowned figure, once said “Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an Indomitable Spirit.” In his words this indomitable spirit is really what separates women from men. T R

Success of a nation

uccess of a nation at higher end is more than the success of few individuals, or organizations and cities. A nation’s success in real sense is encompassing more, may be all these together and it should be viewed in 360 degrees. As a fact, a nation is not defined by its borders or boundaries of land mass, rather it epitomizes citizens and hence the success of a nation relies on the wellbeing of its citizens especially the women. In nutshell, women
36
empowerment is a perquisite for making a nation successful. As rightly said by Swami Vivekananda, “There is no chance for the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved, It is not possible for a bird to fly on only one wing.” To achieve the status of a developed country, no doubt India needs to transform its colossal women force into an effective human resource and this can be made possible only
through the empowerment of women. This is one dimension of the change, where equal opportunity in education, employment and social status to women is becoming crucial for the development of a nation. Further, as a follow-up, the second dimension of change is, permitting women to take the front seat in the journey towards development, leading the organizations and institutions, and providing chances in the upper ladder

EDUCATOR’S VIEWPOINT
of socio political positions. This will enable them to play crucial leadership and execution roles. This type of change will definitely act further as a catalyst and empower women still more and pave a path way for a more promising and sustainable growth of a nation. As the first dimension of change is more fundamental and bigger in scope and in some sense encompass all of women population in a country, the second dimension of change is more pivotal, comparing smaller in volume but will have an affluent impact. A women’s way of thinking is different and is inclusive of many factors; progress over prosperity, next generation centric, passion in caring for the needed puts them all together to drive a nation towards success. At a broader perspective, the first dimension of change can be thought of a fundamental tactic and the later as strategic. The fundamental change needs to be systemic and the broad domains where women need typical improvement are Education, Financial independence (via employment and entrepreneurship), Legal equality and Decision making opportunities. Women Education is paramount at the root and the education here is not meant the mere transition of a Bachelor’s or a master’s degree. As education is the spine of any empowerment, it should completely be reframed where students will not just learn books but are to be educated to live a great life and to be noble citizens of the Country. Education should not be treated as a way to get better marriage proposals, but as tool to lead the economic independence of women. In this

high-tech era, we see that women all over the world are challenging and changing gender inequalities by occupying key managerial positions. The legal equality and decision opportunity are yet other important aspects on women empowerment. The decision making opportunity has again two components; the first one is about how well the opportunity is given to women and the second is on how well the women are being prepared to exercise this opportunity successfully. While the first goes with the legality in some sense, the second is more on motivational and value based education. It’s high time that we should stop the portrayal of women as objects for lust and pleasure and for the service of man community. The women in complete sense should be treated with respect and dignity. They should be given total independence of their own life inside their home and also outside at their work. Finally coming to the more visible change, where women take leadership roles in India. According to a recent study, women in Indian corporate boards contribute a mere 12% compare to that of 15% across globe. However, the good news here is that, this has been increased from 4.7% to this level in just a couple of years. Being in a board or the CEO of a corporate or startup certainly provides the framework to execute; to make decisions and in certain sense have a wider impact on decisions. The advanced countries like US have higher percentage of women in key leadership roles and in top 500 companies, women hold 19.9% of board seats. Again, Norway, France
and Sweden lead the way globally, with about 46%, 34% and 33% of board members being Women. Women being in front seat driving all-encompassing growth and development is not just a vision, or a dream. It is the reality across the globe and more and more success stories are emerging in these days. To name a few unsung heroines, Shireen Santosham, Chief Innovation Officer, city of San Jose California has been succeeded in effectively shaping it as one of the pioneering smart city model for the world. CEO and Cofounder of Connecthings, is another example of woman power influencing the success of a nation through technological advancement by facilitating smarter inter-device communications. We cannot deny the fact that women have a unique contribution in the economy of our country even with unfavorable “women-men” ratio in the upper governing positions. Finally, the women empowerment that fuels the nation’s success is not merely accomplished by women education alone; rather the men need to be equally educated on the same virtues and values. I would urge here strongly that, we the educationalists should remould the culture and curriculum of books which take knowledge beyond the classrooms, practice integrity and responsibility and make them as living examples of moral ethics and values. As India’s first prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru said “When women move forward, the family moves, the villages moves, and ultimately the nation moves towards success” T R

woman is like a tea bag – you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water.” - Eleanor Roosevelt, the longest serving first lady of the United States of America. Humans are known for their intelligence, creativity, and the ability to think. Though men define strength, women are actually the ones who not only define power, rather establish it every moment. Being a mother and carrying a child in the womb for nine months is not something easy to do. And, not just giving birth to a child or taking care of her family, “SHE” can do more, much more than ordinary men can imagine. Every moment, women are breaking the stereotypical thoughts of the typical men. Even though the society is male-dominant, there are women who are achieving milestones and setting a benchmark for the rest. Here’s the list of the most influential women who are redefining women empowerment every day.

Malavath Poorna Climbing up to the peak of Mount Everest is still almost every man’s dream, for women, it’s still too far. While the rest of the world just dreamed to achieve it, a 13 year old girl made it to the peak and hoisted the Indian flag at the summit. Malavath Poorna is the youngest woman to reach the peak of Everest. Most interestingly, she was just a month older than the world’s youngest Everest Climber – American Jordan Romero. The impressive thing about Poorna was that she climbed the peak from the difficult route, i.e., the Tibetan side. Chhavi Rajavat The more we say about these women, the less it appears. All we want in our life is comfort, isn’t that true? But, the goals of Chhavi Rajawat is something more, much more than average people can imagine. She is the first woman sarpanch in the Indian history with an MBA degree. We surely hear about people who quits job to start a new venture of their own. Chhavi, on the other hand, ditched her well-paying corporate job in India’s biggest telecom firm and started her journey towards making some positive impact on the society. She chose to become the sarpanch of Soda, a village situated 60 km from Jaipur, Rajasthan. Her tireless efforts have helped the place to be benefitted by
