here needs to be a huge change in the way we interact with the world, and for this to happen we need to understand a sneaky tendency of the mind, which is - If I give you 10 beautiful compliments followed by one negative comment, your mind will only cling to the negative comment. It’s funny how our mind works. Due to this we often find ourselves focusing on what’s lacking in our lives. We are mainly focusing on things we don’t have in our life. The usual human behavior is the gap finder behavior. We all do it. We are trained and conditioned to look for the gap, the weakest link, our weakness and we try to improve on it. This disease of always finding fault affects our relationships, our parenting and the happiness quotient in our lives quite adversely. Truth is, it is a bad strategy to live life. No matter what you have, there will always be something you don’t. We pride ourselves on being self-critical and being able to give ourselves a good critique, before anyone else does. We think it’s a very intellectual and mature thing to find faults; we call it attention to detail! Yes it is intellectual, but intelligence is linked to our minds and from the mind, we can only get transactional results. If you want transformation, you need to drop to the heart space. It is here, that we celebrate our strengths and have gratitude for our gifts. The environment in this space is a fertile ground for transformation. If we can change our focus to look at our strengths, to see what we are good at, what we enjoy doing and then create a life around those strengths, we will be truly able to live a fuller and content life. Personally, when I coach clients, or even when it’s about me, I see that 90% -95% lives of most people are completely fine. They however choose to magnify the remaining 5-10% which is not acceptable in owing to that fact that we let that spill over our entire lives. When we focus on what we don’t have, it makes us feel inadequate and small which is not the right thing to do. When we shift our focus to what is actually working, it puts us in an empowered state and gives us the confidence that we are strong, and powerful. It reminds us of all that we have accomplished in life and leaves us inspired to raise ourselves again. But, how does one know what are our strengths? I have a great exercise for you. Ask yourself these questions. 1) The last 4-5 times someone has complimented you on something you do so naturally and effortlessly and so well, what have they been complimenting you on? 2) What are those things that when you do, you get a sense of deep joy and satisfaction? Cooking, helping others, facilitating, solving math problems. etc. 3) What are the ways of being that give you immense joy, pleasure, happiness, adventure, content, etc. This will not give you an exhaustive list, but it will give you an idea of what your strengths are. Focus on those, do more of those and you will see that your life will start blossoming, and also the unhappiness, fear, and insecurities slowly loosen their grip over you. You will be pulled to become the best version of yourself lovingly and gracefully. The way to live life is not by being pushed by your fears but by being pulled by your vision.

sciences, and commerce, the college values the importance of research. It initiates the students into research and encourages them to be involved in various research projects. In order to inspire the students to think critically, the faculty members strive to lead by example and undertake various research projects. The introduction of the Innovation Projects by the University of Delhi has been a real boon for the college. Almost fifteen faculty members and sixty-six students have successfully undertaken six innovation projects as research investigators. One such project was selected for special display at Antardhvani (DU annual festival) and two other projects led to the publication of two edited books which offered a sound platform to students to publish their research findings. Several of these Innovation Projects were based on the concept of community outreach which developed in the students a huge understanding of social awareness and responsibility. They constructed the first of its kind online portal (www.enablethedisabled.in) that allowed instant communication between its registered members. One of the projects took the students outside the comforts of their classrooms and led them to conduct extensive household surveys and work as facilitators with slum women to skill them. Placement and Career Opportunities The college is actively involved in the placement cell, which is a combination of experienced teachers and young minds. ounds very familiar, very common today. But maybe just a couple of decade’s back this seemed like a distant thought, a fantasy.
Remember Star Wars and those other sci-fi movies where one just touches the glass and it transforms into a touch screen that gives you all the information or a robot following all the given instructions. But all this is almost real now. We are rethinking about all the things that we do and how we are doing them. All this comes together as artificial intelligence. Artificial Intelligence or AI has always been there at least I feel that human beings always had the idea of lifeless objects coming to life always wanting more and accurate information and thus we as humans have put an extension to our imagination and intelligence. Anything that could move has caught the attention of the human eye, it could something as simple as the toys that were operated with keys and as they were wound the sudden movement caught the attention. AI or Artificial Intelligence though formally founded much later has always been the mirage of the human brain which was brought into concreteness through a lot of research and it also went through a lot of winter periods where there was a lot of criticism to the entire execution and implementation of AI. The entire driving force behind this was to create a properly automated and educated world where machines might prove to be like a true humanizing experience. But however close we get to be humanized ultimately the human touch is what may be missing. The question then arises whether the machines created by humans who are supposedly the dominating species on Earth, today will exceed human intelligence tomorrow. The answer is that it is very likely that machines will be much more smarter than us, which will give us almost error free results by the end of the century. We still have a long way to go so as to conclude the pros and cons of AI, but there is no need to fear…..do we feel insecure when we see a dew drop on a flower or how much ever we are prepared for a natural disaster we still are far away from assumption. Yes I still believe it is a tool and should be used as an effective tool. JULY 2019

The Necessity of Understanding
Higher Education T
he aim of higher education is to make a person to play his part well as an enlightened member of society. Rabindranath Tagore said, “The higher education is that which does not merely give us information, but makes life in harmony with all existence”. India has a large higher education sector and it has world’s third largest position in student population, after China and the United States. This is a remarkable achievement. It has significant advantages in the twenty first century knowledge race. But the challenges that the system faces is exceedingly high, daunting, and at times looks insurmountable. The challenges confronting the Indian higher education system are challenging, complex and have different hues. One of the fundamental weaknesses of the system is lack of transparency and recommendations have been made to mandate high standards of data disclosures by institutions on performance. Higher education system not only there for trains you in your field, but it also trains you to think analytically, understand subjects that are complex and have the ability to communicate them in an effective way. Additionally, it instills important skills like self-discipline, organization, and being able to finish a task from beginning to end. It also helps to turn you into a more professional person with work-related skills. Since you learn broad range of skills, you could end up in a field you didn’t necessarily study for. This can open up new and unexpected opportunities that might have not become available to everyone. The main goal of higher education is to provide a direction and purpose to one’s life. If you aim to go far in that chosen direction, you need to set the stage for achieving higher education for yourself. We can draw a simple analogy here.

A person who knows to drive a motorcycle hits the road with ease, but only in his motorcycle. Preparing for a jump in one’s career: If you joined your organization at the most basic level and you are ambitious to climb the ladder, you need supportive skills. These extra skills are gained by putting your time and energy in a course that gives you extra edge to score higher in your career ladder. In short, making time for achieving higher education in your chosen filed will directly reflect on your career prospects and you can definitely aim for promotions and perks in your work field. Higher skill gain: After exploring the benefits that one can achieve in one’s workplace let us now go beyond that circle and see how higher education can benefit. These days nobody sits with a single job in hand throughout his or her lifetime. Everybody likes to taste success at new destinations. To have confidence in emerging out from one’s familiar shell and taste unexplored waters, it needs lot of courage doubled with knowledge. We can get this only from higher education. All the skills and specializations derived from higher education help a person to explore unexplored territories and achieve higher excellence in life. Intellectual development: The more you study, the more you broaden your horizon and hence your perspective undergoes a serious transformation. help in community and societal development and has the capability to build a citizen friendly nation. Ideas and innovations that are garnered from people who have sought higher education provide a global competing space for the entire nation. Motivation to pursue one’s passion for a subject: If we like to prepare a chocolate cake, we try to find out the recipe and try it at our kitchen. Probably, the next time we may try to add some more ingredients to make it more delicious. Another time, we may add a touch of experimentation to give it a better look. So, every time the cake you make gets a higher level of transformation than the previous. In a similar way, a person pursues higher education out of passion too! If he loves to specialize in a subject, he would love to study more and gather more knowledge out of his previous degrees. That gives him a better edge than the rest pursuing similar interests. Nowadays, the education system is undergoing a drastic change. We can see that the rank-based conservative system of education is being replaced by a much friendlier, grade based system of evaluation and merit. Scores are graded and not evaluated by marks. This helps a student to lessen the pressure on rote learning and gives way to a much broader perspective of rational thinking and open mindset. It creates space for better interaction and discussion about knowledge being taught. This is in the main stream. To achieve higher education at all levels of society, we have to think a little away from the main stream branches too.
JULY 2019
Manickam Ramasamy CEO Conventional thinking can be replaced by vocational learning that may not be so famous in the first place, but holds equal importance for a society to thrive. We can see the rise of many vocational and trade schools that offer specialization in many branches of non-conventional learning and they are formal courses too! Certificates and academic degrees are awarded even to these higher education courses and stand an equal chance to promote good higher education literacy in the country. The privatization of higher education in India has certainly increased the bar when it comes to standards in learning, but is not reachable to all classes of society. To ensure that it is reaching out to the larger population, students must be encouraged to avail scholarships and study loans at banks with cheaper repayment interests. Also, a credit based higher education system as discussed before has the capability to transform the whole education system and take on research and development prospects to an all new level in the country. With increase in literature and government actively spending on school and college education, the number of enrolments of students in higher education is also on the rise. It is very essential that we encourage students not to just look at the fancy side of a job and a good salary, but build an attractive career and track record with a good higher education. The country can see all round development if more number of people specialize in the subjects they choose because they can be assets for the future and the country depends on such scholars to rise in global competition.
