DEFINING MODERN WAYS OF LEARNING
W
e have come a long way with the way one learns.
When formal education came into the picture for children, parents were aware about the importance of learning in their child’s life. This led the foundation of schools and reputed universities worldwide. While some countries then still followed their self-developed methods of educating their younger generation, the European influence defined a proper education structure, giving formal education a framework in the form of schools, universities, and institutions. Walking ahead in the times of the Industrial Revolution, schools, colleges, and universities became a necessity for everyone. Industries started to rely more on these educational institutions that equipped the students with a complete understanding of the subject. Little did everyone know that the educational institutions now had a purpose to
education: to find employment opportunities for the upcoming generation. Though this education model clearly had some loopholes, but the needs of the human race recovering from the two World Wars were not just limited to education but survival, progress, and lifestyle. Moving towards the end of the 20th century, the world realized that educational institutions like schools, colleges, and universities were not enough. Addressing this unique need in the educational space, entrepreneurs endured into creating a society that specialized students in training them for jobs that they were suitable for. Different coaching centers, private tutors, and even educational societies were set up to meet various industries’ expectations across the world. Entering the 21st century, the internet set up its own educational institution. Still being in the growing stages then, the internet served as a medium of information. Soon, the ever-increasing demands and the awaking of the population to be more personalized created a gap between the various industries and people. While industries focused on closing this gap, they grew exceptionally well, redefining and restructuring everything we see today. However, in the efforts of closing one gap, the gap between educational institutions and the industry increased. With the internet being at the core of everything in this modern world, new-age entrepreneurs decided to provide the students with necessary tools that educational institutions failed to deliver.
Entrepreneurs mixed education and modern technology to create something that would help the world close the gap. EdTech companies became more vibrant when learners demanded special attention to the unique fields of their interests. EdTech companies made a name for themselves in the changing business paradigm of this modern world. However, the required boost came in when the world was forced to stay in their houses during the COVID-19 pandemic. EdTech took up the responsibility to keep the learning process going even during such uncertain times. In this edition of The Knowledge Review, we set out on an endeavour to find ‘The 5 Best Education and EdTech Companies in Spain, 2022,’ that are defining the modern ways of learning and education across the globe. This edition will provide you with detailed insights about the companies and what innovative measures they introduced to enhance the education and learning experience. Have a happy and insightful read!

echnology is the gift that just keeps on giving. Though educational institutions have been inculcating technology into their pedagogy for some time now, most of the schools and universities have now realised the significance of digital transformation in the education world amid the COVID-19 pandemic. With the increased use of online classes and video conferencing solutions, it is time to implement and build technology that will appropriately transform the way learning is offered to students. The role of technology has become much more predominant, and its impact will be felt much more comprehensively in the field of education. But education is far from being the only field which has felt the full might of the tech revolution. From entertainment to work, from healthcare to shopping, every aspect that affects modern life has come online. Our lives are ruled by technology in many sorts of ways.

entertainment to work, from healthcare to shopping, every aspect that affects modern life has come online. Our lives are ruled by technology in many sorts of ways. So, it would be appropriate to state that individuals who have a better, more indepth understanding of technology can, not only have more employment and career avenues available to them, but also can play a major role in the way we progress as a society. Who knows, the future might demand each and every individual to have a detailed comprehension of some or the other subsidiary of technology. To advance into the future with a confident and competent outlook, we need institutions that can leverage the tech to teach the tech to aspiring individuals. Individuals who, after receiving the right guidance and tuition can harness the full might of this ubiquitous force and use it for the betterment of our civilization. And to train these individuals, we need institutions that build a trainable mindset and inculcate the right kind of skills, competencies, and knowledge to turn them into tech wizards. In this context, schools like Ironhack School really manage to help people who need to get a job and wish to start a career in tech.

Now that the situation in Spain is improving, with more people getting vaccinated, the Madrid campus is open and people can take advantage and use the Barcelona facilities to study and work from there. Ironhack’s curriculum remains the same, it is taught in person or online. But, of course, the company uses collaborative tools and Zoom for online classes. It has improved its ‘Career Week’, in order to make sure its students are ready to work remotely. The Future Awaits… The future is already here and Ironhack is not about to slow down anytime soon. Ironhack School’s goal is to make education and work in tech accessible for everyone.

Tips to Motivate Students Study During the
Pandemics? W
e are living in unprecedented times; people are being forced to stay at home and become digital citizens because of the COVID-19 pandemic. With schools, colleges, and other educational institutions undergoing significant structural changes, students may feel lost, confused, or frightened about their future. The transformation of technology in the education sector has helped a lot during the pandemic to connect students with tutors.

Faculties across the world took uponworld have not only taken the difficult task of transitioning and adapting to online modes of instruction but also Multitasking by learning new technology, advising, having online office hours, attending meetings, and responding to students who requested Zoom meetings became the new norm irrespective of the working timeworking hours, and much more.
• More engagement: Some parents lack communication with their children because of their heavy working lifestyle. Even amid a coronavirus outbreak, it is one of the most effective strategies to encourage kids to improve their grades. This will only happen if we maintain open lines of communication with students and give them assistance when they require it.
prizes available, such as praise, additional time in bed, or a trip to the playground. Keep your rewards simple and focused on something you can offer again and again. Use incentives to persuade students to do something they might not otherwise do. Initially, give frequent and minor prizes, and then progressively increase the time between awards as pupils begin to see the inherent benefits of their conduct.
Everyone joined together with one common goal in mind: the benefit of the pupils. As we look ahead, we must make decisions with a long-term perspective in mind. Faculty must walk a fine line between keeping students motivated and maintaining their own morale. Student motivation will be a major difficulty regardless of which learning paradigm is used: online, blended, hybrid, or a variety of other possibilities.
Kids are so energetic and filled with curiosity, and the most important thing is that they do not know how to manage their time. The engagement of parents makes it easier to schedule study time and fun time. Relation between the parent and child becomes stronger with strong communication. Parents are idol people for the kids from birth, and they learn more from the parents than the other tutors.
Kids are aware of the exact conduct that is being rewarded. Give rewards for efforts rather than results. Give surprise rewards every now and then to boost their morale. Make the rewards timing and type unexpected. People are more likely to persist in the conduct that leads to the reward if they know a reward is available but do not know when they will get it.
• Below are a few things that can be done to keep students studying during the pandemic. • Progress monitoring: Setting goals and keeping track of progress are essential motivators because they affect both the likelihood of success and the importance of the activity. Have a discussion with your children about setting goals. When students participate in such discussions, they get ownership of the goal, making it more valuable. Determine how you will know if the learner progresses toward the goal and when they have achieved it. We can similarly track the positive learning behavior of the students and improve according to that. Having a measurable objective is essential for determining whether you have achieved it.
20 | Jan 2022
Have communication with tutors: Communication between parents and teachers should be ongoing and have clear communication channels from the outset. Keeping parents active on a regular basis fosters a sense of community that helps both the child and the school. Because one of the strongest indicators of student outcome is parental expectations, clear and high expectations should be set from the start. Parents can become more engaged and involved in virtual class and online school activities if communication is good. Firm parent-teacher contact improves children’s academic performance and fosters a sense of community.
Working with older pupils on a plan outlining what effort and outcomes will result in incentives is a good idea. Conclusion Being motivated during the pandemic is a challenging task for everyone. Pandemic made every industry come on the knee and start doing activities from home environment. People appreciated it at the start, but it has become a nightmare for every single person at some point. Students have taken it very differently because staying at home is the last thing they do at this age. Motivation is needed at every stage of life, and it becomes important when you are stuck in a situation like the COVID-19 pandemic. - Rahul Manoj Thakar

he COVID-19 pandemic was announced in the initial stages of 2020. Since then, we’re observing significant changes in our lifestyles on a daily basis. Almost every industry is encouraging work from home. Moreover, a major change in the education industry was seen as the learning paradigm shifted from classroom learning to digital learning. But now, it seems like offline learning will be back in fashion. The education sector was severely affected by the online modes of learning. It was particularly difficult for teachers and students as they had to shift from the traditional

way to a newer, digital learning method. It was tricky to get used to the online approach, but everyone got used to it and was comfortable with time. For a while, it became the new norm in the education industry. As the pandemic is under control, many institutions are planning to start offline classes again. Here are some strategies to implement in order to smoothen the transition from online to offline. Socio-Emotional Support According to a scientific brief released by the World Health Organization (WHO), the global prevalence of anxiety and sadness soared by a staggering 25% in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the coronavirus pandemic, most students have become socially awkward and isolated. Because they spent two years studying from home and being in their comfort zone, they are not thrilled about going back to school. Sitting in a packed classroom and being in physical contact with fellow students could be overwhelming for some. Therefore, socio-emotional support should be provided to all students. Proper counseling for mental health support is essential during such uncertain times. It is also necessary for parents and students to be on the same page about their child’s mental health. Students should feel protected in school environments, especially after adapting to drastic changes in their lifestyle during the lockdowns. Many students could develop fear and anxiety depending on their experiences, leading to poor academic performance and delicate mental health.
28 | Jan 2022
Restoring Routines and Group Activities Now that offline learning could be back in the educational sector restoring the old routines is very crucial for enhancing their learning experiences. Physical education should be given to students like in the olden days. Students need to stay active and have fun outside the classroom. Activities like games and sports are amusing and give students a break from classrooms and textbook studies. Apart from physical activity, it is vital to restore students’ verbal skills. In the past two years, students have hardly communicated verbally for studies. All the assignments and projects were typed and submitted in digital classrooms. Schools need to work on students’ reading and writing skills. Also, it would be an additional benefit if group activities were introduced to help students socialize again. Considering all the factors, students and teachers should be given enough time to adjust again to the traditional means of teaching. It was already a hassle to get used to the online structure, so switching back will be tricky. Encouraging Blended Learning Initially Going to school every day and learning like everyone did pre-pandemic is not as easy as it sounds anymore. Every person has their own speed of learning and transitioning. Therefore, introducing blended studies during the initial stages could be helpful. Blended learning, sometimes referred to as hybrid learning, mixes online instructional materials and chances for online participation with traditional classroom approaches as blended
courses bring more flexibility in terms of class location, time, and speed. COVID-19 Prevention and Control Protocols The most important thing for schools and universities is to ensure they have a COVID-19 strategic preparedness plan. The pandemic is under control, but it can surprise us once again. As we’ve seen multiple variants of COVID-19 spreading across the globe, newer variants might likely spread again. If there are hundreds of students in one building and one of them gets infected, it could put the school or university in a critical situation. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), infection prevention and control (IPC) is a scientific strategy and practical solution for preventing infectionrelated harm to patients and health care personnel. WHO discusses approaches that can help limit exposure to the disease and lower the likelihood of transmission among pupils, students, instructors, and non-teaching staff at school in the context of schools and learning. EndNote Switching from traditional offline learning to online learning was inconvenient for everyone, including students and teachers. Now that they must transition from online to offline, it will create a nuisance. To make sure they get back to offline learning and teaching, giving the proper support is the need of the hour. The strategies mentioned above will smoothen the transition process, giving them ample time to get back to traditional back-to-school learning.
