ZWISCHENZEIT art exhibition by Julia Rehme & The Krank
ZWISCHENZEIT The shutdown: social distancing, exceptional state of the economy. During the recent weeks and months, our personal easiness, our normality and the system in which we exist have been thrown off course. Our processes are restricted, and the effects on our daily lives are countless. In their exhibition ZWISCHENZEIT, Julia Rehme and The Krank refer to this current, unprecedented situation. On the one hand, they show works that deal directly with the consequences of the shutdown in relation to political and social issues. On the other hand, for the first time, they present works that arose from a deep inner dialogue, which could only have been made possible by the uniqueness of the time. What is the normality we now want to return to?
about the artists
JULIA REHME Julia Rehme was born in 1982 in Osnabrück. After her graduation in design she decided to move to Berlin where she further developed her artistical range and learned tattooing. Today you can see Julia's works on canvas and paper as well as on skin. In 2014 she founded the studio NOÏA|Berlin. Nowadays the studio hosts an international team of artists. With the establishment of NOÏA she achieved the vision of creating a place that combines tattooing, art and design. Julia's artworks are characterized by an abstract expressionist imagery. Even though she is guided by her intuition in the painterly process, her serial works often pursue a specific theme. Julia deals with the relationship between coincidence and structure. Through non-objective painting, she represents a moment out of infinity and deals with the origin, destruction and decay. This leads to energy-charged areas of tension, which dissolve again and extend beyond the edge of the picture into infinity. The elements of a microcosm merge into a symbiosis, before they divide again and sort later in the macrocosm. With her works, Julia reflects on the laws governing people and nature.

about the artists
THE KRANK The Krank (b. Greece, 1988) is a Berlin-based artist & curator focusing on paintings, murals, art installations, performances & social art projects. His creative flame was firstly spread as a graffiti artist in the urban environment in the early 2000s. He studied fine and applied arts in Athens (2009), which led him in a new rapprochement of his primary visual language and art practice. The peculiarity of The Kranks work is the stringent black-and-white aesthetics as well as the iconicity of indecipherable hieroglyphs, fragments of letters, newly arranged words black on white and white on black. His riotous gesture in combination with his influences of the abstract expressionism art movement became his personal signature in his paintings. Based on his concept ideas he enriches his visual storytelling by adapting different mediums into his work such as fabrics, cardboards, woods and plastic, creating bold installations both indoors and outdoors. The artist regards himself as a seismograph of society and articulates social grievances and group psychological phenomena in his works. His ideology revolves around conscience and humanity. Through his provocative projects, he tries to develop an ethical state within the complex structure of modern life, aiming to gain a deeper understanding of the true essence of reality. It is his duty to capture the most sincere interpretation of the world by opening up a dialogue for alternative visions with a focus on social responsibility. www.thekrank.de info@thekrank.de instagram: @thekrank
