Sandebut Diego’ats the Fashion Week Hard Rock Hotel by Yasmin Santana

The night has finally arrived for San Diego’s emerging designers where they premiered their spring 2013 collections on the runway. The glamorous event took place at the stylish Hard Rock Hotel in the heart of San Diego’s Gas lamp quarter. The hotel is located in the fashionable nightlife district, which is well known for its entertainment, restaurants, art galleries and small boutiques. The event took place in a posh outdoor setting of the hotels rooftop where there was a runway built for the occasion. For this event the audience participated by casting their votes via a Fashion Week San Diego phone application to vote for their favorite designer. The contest will be judged by the audience on wear ability, creativity and overall appearance and craftsmanship. The designer with the highest score will be announced at the trunk show the following afternoon on October 7th at the Hard Rock Hotel. The winning designer will score an ultimate business package to help jump-start their career.

It is elegant, classic yet stylish and feminine. This piece is very reminiscent of the women’s 1940’s post world war two-era fashions.

San Diego’s Channel 6 Kristen Mosteller, who is an anchor news reporter, TV personality and host of “San Diego Living” at XETV, hosted the glamorous event. The news anchor and presenter was wearing a beautiful metallic gold dress piece from designer Stacie Mays collection. The dress was an asymmetrical shape, one shoulder, and one sleeve stunning dress. The first designer to open up and present her collections on the runway was NOIA by Evelyne. Her collection featured contemporary young women’s fashion such as dresses and jumpsuits with splashes of spring colors and strips with a touch of black laces and sheer chiffons. Her designs are ready to wear from daytime to nighttime. Dos Caras presented their spring resort wear collection with two male models escorting the models wearing beachwear lying on the runway to give it a beach time theme. The models strutted down the runway showing off the playfully chic swimwear. The swimwear had beautiful prints that included floral feminine suits and cover-ups to sexy Brazilian showgirl swimwear. The “Champagne Ladies” definitely made a splash on the runway with their debut spring collection. One of my favorites of the night was Jessica Faulkner’s collection. Her collection stood out for me because of how creative the designs and theme of the collection was. Her designs were a cross between modern contemporary and vintage flair of the 1930’s and 1940’s fashion era. The models wore an adorable small hat and heart shaped lips. Her pieces are very feminine, stylish and classic. One of my favorite pieces from her collection was the red two piece pants suit that can be easily worn by the career women to a night time dinner date.

8 | The LA Fashion magazine

Another adorable design is a gray and white-stripped pants and top for a casual but feminine daytime look.

Another amazing designer that impressed me with his gowns is Kenneth Barlis. In his opening scene his model glided down the runway with a gorgeous flowing red plunging neckline dress with a plumed red feather samba like headdress. This dress was my favorite of all Kenneth Barlis dresses of the night. The back of the dress has Kenneth Barlis name which was quite creative.

SYC ‘s designer Sameerah Yasmeen Corporal was another one of my top designers of the night. Her collection has classic clean cuts and a splash of bold color palettes for spring. One design I simply adored was her two-piece pant outfit with chic black and white top and bold magenta color pants. This look can be worn at a chic resort dinner to a day time out on the town look. Another one of my favorite pieces is a very elegant red off shoulder dress with a chic golden belt. This dress can be worn at the corporate lunch meeting to a romantic lunch date.

There were a total of 12 designers for the night, which also included jewelry designers: “Love is a Devil” and “Erin Rader” jewelry. I can say there is definitely a lot of talent here in San Diego. Overall the night was filled with glamour, entertainment and fun. After the runway shows the models, designers and crowd got a chance to snap photos as well as mingle before hitting the after party!

D

uring intermission of the runway show there was a mind blowing live performance by DJ Violinist, Jennifer “Spags” Spingola. Jennifer can be seen and heard opening for high profile runway shows and nightclub events all over the world.

The show ended with Andre Soriano’s collection, which happens to be another favorite designer of mine. The one dress I simply could not take my eyes off was a stunning and sophisticated shiny gold evening dress. This dress reminds me of Charlize Theron in the J’Adore Dior commercial. I can see this amazing dress on the red carpet or black tie elegant cocktail dinner. The second dress I couldn’t tear my eyes off is a stunning black evening gown with tutu like ruffled layers. The dress looks like a black ballerina dress and is simply beautiful. Mr. Soriano’s over the top glamour and creativity is reflected in his amazing gowns.

PROJECT ETHOS P

roject Ethos hit off LA Fashion Week on Oct. 12, 2012 with yet another prominent event that distinctively mixed fashion, music and art walk. You heard right—the Downtown LA Art Walk, to be exact. The two phenomena joined forces at the historic Exchange LA to showcase the hottest emerging designers and street artists on the block. For the first time ever, Ethos arranged an indoor display of the brand new 2013 FR-S Sports Car with the help of its official sponsor, Scion. “We haven’t done an event in Downtown since 2006, so to be here six years later is pretty cool,” said Ethos founder and CEO Jason Peskin. Doors opened at 7PM as guests showed off their polished looks to photographers standing alongside the red carpet step-and-repeat. This time around, Ethos brought back an art gallery where media, curators and buyers could mingle before the main event. The gallery featured the artworks of Tanina Jackson, Max Neutra, Amy Baca Lopez, and many more. Guests then headed up the red carpet staircase to catch the live show. At 9:30PM, the Ethos emcee pumped up the crowd with a warm welcome and cued for the first fashion show to begin. Lights dimmed and all eyes glanced to the top of the stairs as the first runway model made her way down the steps to the center of the runway. Energizing music vibrated the room and lights suddenly brightened while camera flashes captured the first piece of Jose Galeana’s collection (Galeana Designs).

Marialia Pacitto (Marialia) was next, followed by Jennifer Krischer (Linden), Icelandic pop band The Charlies took the stage next and delivered a vibrant performance that kicked off the second fashion show.

Fashion Institute of Technology of NYC alumna Felicia Barth-Aasen ended the show with (Collective 26), a high-end contemporary women’s line that featured timeless looks that are wearable in today’s American culture. It was a mix between bohemian and grunge– messy but in its own way very sheik. One of my favorite pieces from this collection was a form fitting blue-knit dress that was simple in shape but so intricately designed, bottomed with an exaggerated see through fringe. The thick fabric headbands definitely added a cool, hipster vibe to the whole collection.

EXODUS by Mike Vensel

“My last collection was inspired by ancient Egypt. I started thinking about the story of Exodus with Moses leaving the desert. I thought it would be interesting to explore collections that had some dark undertones or some religious themes to it. Religious themes that are universal religious themes; themes that aren’t necessarily Muslim, Christian or Jewish themes…they are kind of something that is born of that region and have developed a monastic look. “

“Exodus” is the Spring Summer 2013 collection by Los Angeles based designer, artist and producer (Concept Los Angeles), Mike Vensel. The collection is inspired by the mass migration of the human race in search of a better life and freedom from religious restraints. The collection picks up where Vensel’s previous collection ended. Traveling back to Egypt, on a journey through the desert where a blank-slate is established, a new world is born. Through Vensel’s designs and vision, a story unfolds of women dressed in hooded, veiled and caped monastic themed garments that walk the runway. The simplistic-elegance of Vensel’s collection is composed primarily of silk charmeuse, chiffon and modal. Each garment displays Vensel’s true genius with drape, as beautiful silhouettes take shape and possess a fluidity and movement when met with air. “I spent six months doing research and really working on the concept of the collection. It’s an A to Z process, there’s creativity involved with every aspect of it”. – Mike Vensel In keeping with Vensel’s previous color palette the designer chose pure white, cobalt blue, and obsidian black as the primary make up of the collection. The designer also chose to interject muted colors as well. Vensel’s Spring Summer 2013 collection demands to be worn, it simply—demands to be lived in.

Each look transfixed the audience, as models walked the runway. The collection stayed true to the designer’s aesthetic and was distinctly, Vensel. To learn more about the collection seen above please visit: mikevensel.com by Dana Elizabeth

Style Fashion Week presents

LUIS VERDAD and DAR Sara’s

O

ctober 15th, style fashion week has officially begun where two designers showcased their ready to wear spring 2013 fashions. The venue was held at the beautiful historic Vibiana in downtown Los Angeles. The former cathedral is currently used to host corporate as well as private events and runway shows. Upon entering the cathedral you are instantly enveloped in its old world charm and elegance. The church has over one hundred thirty year history and has a stunning garden courtyard that is perfect for outdoor events. As guests began to arrive at the venue one special guest in particular made his appearance and drew in a lot of attention, the Los Angeles mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa. The preshow event was held in the garden courtyard of the Vibiana where invited guests got an opportunity to snap photos and socialize over cocktails. The inside of the Vibiana was converted to a runway with gorgeous surrounding baroque style elegance and columns reminiscent of old European churches.

2013 SS Collections

L

ouis Verdad was the first to present his denim collection for spring/summer 2013. Designer Louis Verdad, a MexicanAmerican designer out of Chicago Illinois draws his inspiration from the societal women of Mexico. He is best known for having dressed Madonna in the past and having dressed her for the now infamous Britney Spears kissing scene.

He combines his love of vintage glamour with the contemporary classic American woman. There is nothing more American than demin and his fashions reflect the California chic for the upcoming spring/summer 2013 collection. Guests enjoyed cocktails and appetizers by additional sponsors; Lawry’s & Kabuki, and a Hosted Bar by Jameson Irish Whiskey & Tequila Loca as well as coconut water by, O.N.E. Coconut.

When Luis Verdadd asked about his beautiful collection and the inspiration behind it he explained that it was about, “Denim, Denim, Denim, the American woman. I wanted to show a side of the denim that could be very stylish when denim is paired with a beautiful shirt or beautiful pants”. 22| The LA Fashion magazine

In Luis Verdad’s collection what stood out for me is how many different ways denim is used. It can be used formally, casually, business chic, flirty and classy. You can mix and match different pieces such as a pop out color blouse paired with denim bottom piece or vice versa. His collection reflects the modern woman inspired by a retro 1950’s and 1960’s look.

by Dana Elizabeth Noticeable themes arose on the runway including varying shades of dark hues, mainly black. Sequins appeared in several of the designer’s collections. Several designers chose to incorporate feathers, and different embellishments to enhance their collections. A variety of silhouettes and style-lines graced the runway leaving the audience with plenty of eye-candy to choose from. The close of the night, unfortunately, left the audience somber—but not empty handed. The highly anticipated performance by Carly Rae Jepsen was canceled due to a flight delay but VIP audience members left with a gift bag provided by sponsors: NYX Cosmetics, TC Charton, La Fresh, Amore Pacific, Laundry, Wi Spa, Crunchyroll, Naked Princess. Now in it’s fifth year, Audrey’s Night Out was a success, despite a few minor details. The producer for the night Andrew Patterson (Producer for America’s Next Top Model) delivered an event that was beautifully organized, and well received. It’s apparent that with each passing year, Audrey Magazine continues to deliver. With anticipation and yearning I cannot wait to see what Audrey Magazine has in store for the year to come.

The next collection to make its debut is Dar Sara, a Dubai based designer. He designs a variety of evening gowns and wedding gowns. The opening to Dar Sara’s collection was very dramatic and theatrical with a performance from two of the models dressed in armour. It was purposely done for the theatrics and the music for this show was very dramatic. All that came to my mind while observing this collection was Lady Gaga’s style combined with old Hollywood glam. The heavy detailing in his pieces are simply amazing and his use of fine fabrics and craftsmanship. Dar Sara draws his inspirations from old Hollywood movies, glamour, theatre and movie stars. Some of his pieces look like costumes and are worn to make a fashion statement and gain attention.

I can see Lady Gaga, Madonna and Beyonce wearing these fashions on stage and that is what he was inspired by in this collection is Hollywood theatrical style outfits. One of my personal favorites of the night is the show girl style mini dress with the black elegant peacock style feathers around the neck. It is very reminiscent of the flapper women of the 1920’s and old Hollywood glamour. The heavy use of feathers, chains, organza, chiffons, silks and beading are apparent in his fashions. It is to reflect the over the top style of Hollywood , special effects, the glamour combined with theatrics that make this collection so spectacular. I have to say this the fashions showcased by this designer tonight was absolutely amazing as well as very creatively designed. The night ended with Dar Sara’s theatrical runway show as the models all gathered on the runway for photos. by Yasmine Santana

Ash Couture and Quynh Paris Show at Style Fashion Week

The two uniquely distinct female designers, Quynh Nhu of Quynh Paris and Ashna Karla of Ash Haute Couture, showed their collections back to back on the runway to a packed house of viewers at the historic Vibiana converted cathedral in downtown Los Angeles during Style Fashion Week. Quynh Nhu’s line Quynh Paris featured bohemian inspired pieces and a blend of various cultures from across the world. Quynh, a graduate of the French Fashion school Mode’ Art International in Paris, uses her Parisian background to blend different aesthetic elements together such as floral embellishments, oriental detailing, and galaxy inspired prints. Her niche for 30| The LA Fashion magazine

combining categories is even apparent in her haute couture and readyto-wear collection names including: “We are the World,” “From One Season to Another,” and Blurred Nature. “Her collection seemed to transform from an underwater aquatic vibe to a futuristic space odyssey adventure. Next the pieces underwent a dip into an oriental phase and finally ending with a flowing bohemian style full of pastel colors and high to low hem lines.

GoInesa ‘GG’Gharachedaghi Wears Nima Shiraz

Editorial For The Los Angeles Fashion Magazine Photography by Barry Druxman

The Los Angeles Fashion Magazine’s November feature showcases the work of the wonderfully talented, and charming San Francisco based designer, Nima Shiraz. The Bay area designer has teamed up with his muse and star of the Bravo TV series, The Shah’s of Sunset, Goinesa Gharachedaghi also known as GG for an unbelievably stunning editorial. We had a chance to sit down with both of them on set to discuss everything from GG’s new hair extension line, to Nima’s unique design aesthetic. First we sat down with the beautiful, lovely, and very kind GoInesa Gharachedaghi, ‘GG’ where we had the opportunity to ask the fashion maven and Louboutin lover, about her sense of style, what she had to say about filming the first season of Shah’s of Sunset, in addition to the unique way she and Nima Shiraz met. The LA FASHION: You are a proclaimed fashion lover and from the show it’s evident that you love designer brands. Who are some of your favorite designers, and why? GoInesa ‘GG’ Gharachedaghi: I love Alice and Olivia very much and I also love DVF (Diane Von Furstenberg). Alice and Olivia is very fun, they have clothes that really fit my body and they design clothing that is loose fitting, yet still very feminine and sexy. LAFM: If you could endorse or work with any design house today which would you work with? GG: I love Alexander McQueen; I would love to work with the design house. That would be a dream for me. LAFM: What is your association with the following brands: Sansli J. Clothing, and GG Hair extensions? GG: Sansli, which means Luck, and J, which is the first initial of my niece’s name. So the brand is, Lucky J. Because my niece was born on

54| The LA Fashion magazine

7/7/7 at 7:11 so she is a little lucky you might say, I kind of wanted to put her in to the label, so that was my way of doing so. LAFM: Are you designing for it?

“I’d like people to know that you can be sexy without having to wear tight clothes, without having to reveal skin, and to just be yourself”

GG: I’m 100% hands on with the designers, and I have a vision and concept for the brand, it’s about being sexy at any size, and any weight. LAFM: How soon might we expect to see the full collection? GG: I’ve been working on and off for about a year, it has been put on hold for the moment, especially with the release of my hair extension company. Hopefully by the time the new season airs I’ll have something ready for the general public. LAFM: Can you tell us a bit more about GG Hair extensions, when did that launch? GG: It launched a little less then a year ago, we created this hair extension line that is so revolutionary…it’s so different, nothing has ever been this simple to put on and take off, I’ve worn hair extensions on and off for years, every kind from the sewin, the clip-in to the glue-in kind. What makes my hair extensions so different is the way they go on. It’s almost like a crown, and then it shapes to the form of your head, then you pull your hair through and style as usual. LAFM: How did you get involved with Nima Shiraz? GG: It’s a little funny, Nima found me on Facebook, actually and we both really connected with one another. You know he’s also Persian, and I don’t want to sound one sided but when you are of a certain culture that’s only just really beginning to get recognition for it’s culture, when someone reaches out to you of that similar culture you want to be there and help them and sort of say, “let’s do something together”. So when he contacted me I was on my way to San Francisco and since he is based out of San Francisco so we decided to meet that weekend. It was fate, perfect, and once I saw his designs I fell in love. Since then we’ve been really working with one another to support each other, his designs are simply amazing. LAFM: What do you want the fashion world to know about you as a person but also as a style icon and fashion maven? GG: I’d like people to know that you can be sexy without having to wear tight clothes, without hav-

ing to reveal skin, and to just be yourself. You can feel just as sexy wearing pajamas as you would wearing an evening gown that’s worth thousands of dollars. It’s all in how you feel, and I believe that sexy is how you feel. Your fashion sense should be real in your mind, so you can create it on your body. LAFM: We know you love Christian Louboutin – Is there any other designer shoes you simply must have in your closet? Do you plan to lend your name to a shoe line in the future? GG: Well, from the show everyone knows I love Louboutin’s and I also really love Jimmy Choo’s, and who can forget Alexander McQueen of course. As far as putting out a line of shoes, that would be amazing! I would love to do so one day. LAFM: Do you believe in wearing something more than once? The LA Fashion magazine | 55

Photography by Barry Druxman

56| The LA Fashion magazine

GG: Yes, I do. I mean it would be abnormal to say you never wear something twice. For the red carpet that’s a different story, you know? That’s with any person who has to walk the red carpet it’s a part of your job to be diverse and show your sense style. As far as everyday goes, I wear the same jeans, I have like a hundred jeans and I always wind up wearing only two pairs. That’s just reality you can’t, not wear the same thing twice. LAFM: Do you have anything you want to say to the individuals that have made comments about your style choices? And anything you want to say to those who have passed judgment on you regarding the show? GG: I think passing judgment is the easiest thing one can do in the world, and you know it’s actually really gratifying to me when I meet some of my fans in real life and they say, “oh my gosh, GG you are actually really nice in real life’. It’s really kind of nice to hear that, I would just like people to keep watching and follow not only my story but the other’s as well. As far as my fashion sense, I’ve been really lucky in that I’ve never had anyone as far as fans say anything negative about my fashion style, so I’ve been really lucky in that regard.

LAFM: Nima as a designer can you tell us who or what are some of your influences? Nima Shiraz: Well, there are quite a few things, theater for one, theater has always been such a huge inspiration for me and there are designers that I am inspired by, Alexander McQueen would be a classic example of that. But you know I find inspiration in the weirdest of places. My practice is not to look at what other designer’s have done. It’s not for me to look at what someone else has created, and then try to replicate that for me I approach a new look and a new gown with the goal of being original. It’s always just an idea that comes to my head, I can’t say I have literal inspirations but I can say that I look at the work of individuals and I am inspired to create something beautiful, and I’d say McQueen is one of these individuals who has inspired me.

LAFM: How do you feel about what’s been said about you and the cast as far as representing the Persian community, other’s have said perhaps not in the best light, what would you say to those individuals? GG: You know the people who were saying the most negative comments before the show aired was the Persian community... we are a very deeply rooted and historical culture and we’ve kept a certain face to hold that culture. I think a lot of Iranian’s were scared, wondering are people going to see the truth? But the truth is that we are just normal people. We have fights, we have break-ups and I think once the show aired people saw that. They’ve come up to me and said, “Oh my god, we love the show we thought it was going to be like the Persian version of Jersey Shore, but it’s not like that at all”. I think that people have realized it’s not that big of a deal, and I think people should keep watching and to be honest at the end of the day people can decide to think whatever they’d like.

Following our interview with GG, we sat down with Nima Shiraz, under a canopy of blue sky getting to know the San Francisco based designer. The tall, charming and fashionable Shiraz talked about his design background and how fate played a part in how he and GG first met.

LAFM: What is your design background? NS: I am actually self-taught; I’ve had tremendous support from seamstresses who’ve taken the time to help me, to teach me techniques. They’ve spent a lot of one on one time with me because they are passionate about the brand. But because I don’t have the proper training, I don’t have a limitation in terms of a frame that I am not allowed to step out of. The LA Fashion magazine | 57

So with design, I come up with the weirdest ways to create my gowns. The way I drape them, the way I sew them…but that being said, I am obsessed with making the work look clean and flawless I just don’t do it in the traditional way that other trained designers do. LAFM: What can you tell us about your relationship with GoInesa, ‘GG’ how did you two meet? NS: I heard about the show Shah’s of Sunset and I, myself am Persian, and I was immediately drawn to the series because the show is centered around these group of Persian friends living in America. So I found myself drawn to these people and as I watched the season I got to know the characters better and they all seemed to be very decent, nice people, so you know a few months passed after the show. Then one night I noticed that, GoInesa and I had a mutual friend on Facebook, so I sent her a quick message thinking she probably gets thousands of messages and I simply asked her if she would allow me to the opportunity to design a dress her one day. Then to my surprise the next morning I had an email response from her and she said, “You know Nima I’m actually on my way to San Francisco right now, let’s meet”. So you know it was sort of—fate.

LAFM: How did you two approach working with one another? NS: So when we met, I had chance to sit with her and we talked about how she saw herself and what her style is, we focused on what material’s she felt she loved, and we decided to design a gold gown that originally was going to be worn in Dubai, but instead she decided to wear the gown in Los Angeles. She had said, ‘You know Nima I want to bring more media presence to this piece and I think this dress would be perfect for the red carpet in Los Angeles”. So when that happened I designed her another gown, the red gown we are shooting today… Then from there we talked and I said, why not get a local fashion magazine to shoot you in these gowns and this way we get to establish you as a fashionista in the industry and we decided to team up, and we agreed I’ll continue to make gowns for her and she will continue to be this fashion icon on the red-carpet, which in return will also help to brand my label, Nima Shiraz as well. LAFM: What do you love most about design? NS: One of the things I really love is the actual execution of the design. You start with this idea, and then being able to pull an actual gown out of a garment bag, seeing a person’s reaction to the gowns is a great experience. The confidence I see on a woman’s face, you literally see that they feel beautiful, that’s all that matters. In the end you know that they feel like a star, regardless of whether or not they are actually one. LAFM: Everything right now is custom made? NS: Yes, all of my pieces right now are one-of-a-kind gowns, custom made for each client. I really work with my clients to design them a gown or gowns that they want to wear again, I try to design their dreams and turn them into reality. LAFM: Do you have plans to put out a collection? NS: I have started working on a collection of wearable gowns, I want it to be unique—it may take me some time to fine tune it because my expertise are in couture, but I do plan on rolling out a collection of ready-to-wear shortly. I do know it’s going to be high-end and I definitely will be starting to participate in fashion week soon.

LAFM: Do you think you and GG will possibly collaborate on a line together? NS: That’s an interesting question, but you know I live by the saying, never say never. She’s a great person, she is really professional and loves fashion and I really enjoy working with her. It is a possibility, and in away—you are putting ideas in our head now, Dana. LAFM: Is there any one style icon, or celebrity you would love to design for? NS: I would love to dress Charlize Theron—she is flawless, she is fabulously beautiful, stunning, she is gorgeous. She is the whole package, she has the looks, she has such personality and I fell in love with her when she was featured in the Dior campaign. There is just something about her. I would love to design a gown for her. But that being said there are also so many wonderful, talented women I would design for, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman the list goes on and on. LAFM: If there were one quote, or phrase that best describes you as a designer what would it be? NS: I think there was an Alexander McQueen quote that said, “When you see a women in one of my gowns, you want everyone to turn their heads and ask the question, who is that person…” I think that is something I hope to also accomplish. It’s really about bringing that surprise element; really putting on a show that I think best describes my design philosophy. -Dana Elizabeth

One of the first designers of the night Flynn Skye presented the collection for spring/summer 2013. Her collection features a lot of bohemian inspired prints, light airy fabrics and definitely wearable pieces that are easy to mix and match into your wardrobe. This collection includes a lot of stripped summer dresses, rompers, and mini dresses that are more of a casual daytime look. The LA Fashion magazine | 66

LAFashion Week

ends with major style!

October 21st, the final day Fashion Week Los Angeles finally comes to a close at Sunset Gower Studios. The fashion event presented three designers showcasing their spring summer 2013 collections down the runway. Anthony Franco, Dina Bar-El, and Nathanaelle Couture. The party continues on as celebrities, fashion elites, media and invited guests celebrate the final day of fashion week and fashion weekend. Just Fashion by Public Counsel was one of the top sponsors of the day and invited guest to the show. Public Counsel Law Center is one of the largest non-profit law firms that fight to make a difference in the community. What can be better than fashion, glamour, cocktails and a good cause? The preshow continued as guest lounged around the open bar provided by Diabolo and Little Black Vodka. Guest enjoyed delicious gourmet appetizers, free makeup application by Napoleon Perdis Makeup Academy, received free Wella hair care products, and got a chance to mingle while enjoying great music and a party atmosphere

Dina Bar-El was one of the first to showcase her designs down the runway. Her designs offer timeless women’s eveningwear and as a former model Dina really has an eye for fashion. She understands what the woman is really looking for. Her designs were one of my favorites of the night. The colors were season appropriate with splashes of bold colors such as shocking blues, orange and yellow gowns. The dresses were very elegant and sophisticated and ranged from dinner date to prom date.

Anthony Franco specializes in men and women’s eveningwear. Some of his pieces for the night were just beautiful and I especially loved the jeweled bustier, which seemed very sexy and glamorous and was a crowd favorite. Some of my other favorite pieces were a multi-colored trench coat, which is so different than the traditional trench coats and very sophisticated. I really loved the women’s evening dresses and pant suits the most. I found that what caught my attention the most was the men’s wear.

The last designer of the night to showcase her designs was Nathanaelle Couture. Her designs were very feminine and delicate looking with a very vintage period style appearance to them. She uses a lot of lace, silks, and delicate fabrics. She specializes in women’s ready-to-wear lady like fashions. Some of her designs have been featured on the red carpet. All in all it was a fabulous fashion filled weekend at Sunset Gower Studios. After the runway show came to an end, models, designers and guest had an opportunity to mingle before hitting that after party in town.

Style Fashion Week ends in Style with

AlexisMonsantoandFurne One On October 19th, Style Fashion Week came to a close and what a way to end such a fashion filled week than with these two amazing designers, Alexis Monsanto and Furne One. Upon arriving at the historic Vibiana church in downtown Los Angeles crowds were already gathering around the beautiful cathedral. This event was

going to be like no other this week. The preshow was held at Vibiana’s outdoor court yard where there were appetizers, cocktails, gelatos and more for the invited guests. There was a lot of anticipation in the air as crowds of media and fashionistas started to fill the already crowded courtyard.

The first designer to showcase his talents on the runway was Alexis Monsanto. Alexis Monsanto’s creations can be seen gracing the red carpet on celebrities such as Charlize Theron, Jessica Alba, Megan Fox, Hallie Berry just to name a few. TV giants such as Oprah Winfrey have also been seen wearing some of his accessories. He draws his inspiration from the elegance of

The beginning of the runway show opened up with Las Vegas style performance. As soon as the first model strutted his designs on the runway you were instantly captivated by the glamour and femininity of his designs. The fabrics were soft, flowing and delicate giving it such as graceful feminine look. The first thought that came to my mind was societal women at the Hamptons in the summer. Lime green oversized hats which resembled that of high society women. The accessories worn for this collection were crystal chandelier exaggerated jewelry giving it a regal appearance. The runway show ended with a performance, which seemed something out of the Las Vegas Cesar’s Palace show followed by a shower of confetti.

The last performer and much highly anticipated designer of the night was Furne One. Furne One, the Dubai based designer, is known for its elaborate attention grabbing costume style fashions. Some of Furne Ones famous clientele include Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Nicki Minaj, and Katy Perry. He draws his inspirations from the fashions of the West and the Eastern cultures of the globe. The crowd in the room was to full capacity for this last show that almost filled the Vibiana. The excitement in the air resembled that of a concert as the crowd cheered loudly as the show began. I really have no words to describe how beautiful his fashions are. This designer is known for his

over the top glamour designs that puts Lady Gaga to shame. The main colors used for his collection are nudes, gold’s and silvers with elaborate headpieces that resemble that of face masks. The gilded regal jewelry and headpieces stole the show and were out of this world. The fabrics for these designs were sheer with detailed beading and crystals. The stunning costume like gowns left the crowd speechless and in awe. Some of the gowns had a thorn like appearance which included a head mask, very attention grabbing. I can only describe his fashions as something out of a fantasy movie. The ‘performance’ ended with the models reuniting on the runway for pictures from the crowd. The pictures speak for themselves and now I can see why the event was over crowded as this designer took the crown. On the last weekend of September, the Be Well Beauty and Wellness Expo opened its doors to the public. The Be Well Expo has been a staple expo for buyers, retailers and health and beauty care professionals. Now, the public had the chance to meet with top professionals in the industry and attend lectures from renowned doctors and estheticians. With complimentary services at The Nail Bar by Creative Nail Design and The Skin Analysis Lounge where guests could get a thorough analysis of their skin by a licensed esthetician, Be Well had much to offer to the public.

The two-day event had over 200 vendors and spa services to offer. Despite the limited attendance to the expo, no doubt due to the Herbalife Triathlon and Carmageddon 2 (the greatest obstacles in the way of this two day event), some happy beauty and health consumers were able to enjoy the lectures, demos and naturally, the breakthroughs and innovations in wellness and beauty over the weekend.

The expo was filled with tutorials on hair and make-up applications, including a demo on how to care for lash extensions, how to address hair loss for men and women and the preventative products they use, discussing their claims misconceptions. Another lecture by licensed esthetician, Michael Q. Pugliese, was on peptides, known for their anti-aging qualities. Peptides have become more common in cosmetics, and Pugliese discussed what peptides are, what they do, and how to select the appropriate make-up for you.

Beauty and Wellness Expo in LA :

The Be Well Beauty and Wellness Expo in LA provided large scale beauty and health product showcase with plenty of opportunity for education for the health and beauty conscious women of Southern California. On the beauty and demo stage there was a very informative lecture by Amy Rueda, co-founder of Authentic Skin Remedies, discussing The Dangerous Side of Beauty. Rueda offered information about the unregulated cosmetic industry and what dangerous chemicals and fillers your make-up may contain. Working closely with the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics (www.safecosmetics.org), Rueda co-created the Authentic Skin Remedies line of beauty products after learning that she developed cancer, possibly from using skin care products that contained toxic chemicals, says Rueda. There were new innovations and beauty products on the show floor, from mineral make-ups and body butters to anti-aging devices and teeth whitening. All had their individual perks but some stood out more than others. Of course it would be impossible to discuss all the products and services we saw, but here are some that The LA Fashion found to be worth a mention.

Dr. Ben Johnson, founder of Osmosis Pür Medical Skincare was a keynote speaker on Saturday. Ironically, his lecture was on the age old question of whether or not skin care products are actually a waste of time and money. With this in mind, his company, Osmosis Pür Medical Skincare has made astonishing breakthroughs in skincare using medical research and technology to create a line of products to restore skin’s natural vitality by enhancing the immune system and its functions. Restore, for aging body and skin, is a topical and internal immune system repair that works from the inside out to reduce and prevent the progression of aging and disease. Osmosis has a variety of skin care lines including a line of mineral make-up. Dr. Johnson has also developed Harmonized H₂O UV Protection. This is essentially sun screen water. By using 2 ml twice a day prior to exposure to the sun, your body is protected from the harmful UV rays from the inside out by neutralizing UV radiation. This remarkable breakthrough also had regenerating health qualities. Definitely worth checking out. www.osmosisskincare.com
