(AP) — Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton planned to travel June 20 to discuss flood damage in southern Minnesota, where roads have been blocked and low-lying farm fields have been covered with standing water from storms since last weekend. The threat of severe storms remained in the forecast for southern Minnesota and northern Iowa for much of the week, and showers forecast through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service. A disaster proclamation was issued for Cedar, Lyon, Plymouth, Pocahontas and Sioux Counties in Iowa. Gov. Terry Branstad visited northern Iowa Wednesday, where considerable flooding occurred. Southern Minnesota endured a second round of heavy rains and severe thunderstorms June 16, following waves of storms that drenched much of the region over the weekend. Some 50,000 Xcel Energy customers in Minnesota experienced outages or disruptions Monday night. Crews worked through the early hours June 17 to restore service. If the damage gets close to $7.3 million statewide, state officials can start the process of requesting a presidential disaster declaration, said Kris Eide, the state’s emergency management director.
