Get ready for Minnesota Farmfest For the past 35 years the Minnesota Farmfest show has brought together area farmers and top agribusinesses for three days of networking, policy discussion, and special events. Join in August 1-3 to see the best and latest products on the market and learn new ways to advance your business. August 1-3, 2017 Gilfillan Estate 28269 Highway 67 Morgan, Minn. 56266 Show hours Tuesday, Aug. 1: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2: 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Getting around There are plenty of ways to get around the 50 acres of Farmfest. Take advantage of the many convenient transportation options provided. On-site shuttle: A complimentary on-site shuttle will be circling the show grounds. Look for the Farm-
fest Shuttle Stop signs and hop on for a ride around the perimeter of the show. Parking lot shuttle: A shuttle will run through the parking lot during the show days to help you get from your car to the entrances and back again. Shuttles will make multiple stops throughout the parking lot. Golf cart rental: Golf carts are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The cart rental is located inside Entrance Gate 2. Golf Carts can be reserved in advance by contacting NB Golf Cars at (605) 2754653. Parking Free parking is available on the south and west side of the show grounds. Exhibitor parking will be located on the east side of the site across County Road 13, in the area next to the field demonstrations. No animals allowed with the exception of ADA Service Animals.

The forum schedule for 2017 will include an exciting line-up of feature forums, with a heavy emphasis on key topics and agricultural policy issues affecting farm families and rural communities. Mark Schultz, commodity marketing analyst with Northstar Commodities, will provide a Grain and Livestock Marketing Update at 9 a.m. This is held during the free pancake breakfast sponsored by the Minnesota Farm Bureau, which will occur from 8-10 a.m. Retire at Zero is the title of the special forum being presented by Farm Bureau Financial Services that same day at 2:45 p.m. The Linder Farm Network Noon Show will be held each day from noon-1 p.m., featuring many special guests each day. The noon show on Aug. 2 will feature Max Armstrong, nationally-known farm broadcaster. The 2017 Minnesota State Pork Ambassadors will be introduced during the program. reverse osmosis system. When tiles are flowing, collect samples of 2 to 4 ounces of water in clean plastic bags or bottles. Keep in mind that tiles are seldom running in August, so you might consider collecting samples starting right now. Simply label the sample with the date and source of the water and put it in your freezer. Typically, MAWRC receives more tile samples at this event. “A lot have a good handle on their drinking water,” said Formo. Many farmers treat the testing as a science project, taking samples from different fields at different times of the year to make comparisons. “It helps farmers get a sense of trends,” said Formo. In turn, MAWRC can research what practices might make a difference in water quality. Due to emergence of nitrogen fertilizer regulations, township well testing and other nitrate questions, the Minnesota Agriculture Water Resource Center will once again provide free nitrate screening at Minnesota Farmfest. Warren Formo, executive director of MAWRC, said this is the third year his organization has done nitrate testing at Farmfest. He noted that the nitrogen rule rolled out by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture this summer has generated a huge amount of concern among growers. “We expect to see lots more samples this year, which is great,” said Formo. Samples can be brought to the MAWRC booth in the AURI tent, right across from the Wick Buildings Farmfest Center. Samples will be analyzed immediately at the booth and results will be ready in about 20 minutes. All MAWRC asks is whether the sample is from a well, tile or stream, as this affects the testing process. For wells, remember to take your sample before water has gone through a water treatment system, especially a

DieselSellerz talk biodiesel DieselSellerz appearance, 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2: Minnesota Soybean Booth 618 Come talk with the DieselSellerz about why biodiesel is their fuel of choice. The guys will be hanging out at Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council’s Booth 618, 1-3 p.m. Aug. 2. The Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council teamed up with the DieselSellerz, stars of Discovery Channel’s hit show “Diesel Brothers,” to promote biodiesel. The partnership aims to bring awareness to biodiesel on a state and national level. Stop by to talk with them about why biodiesel is good for farmers, good for Minnesota and even better for the environment. While you’re there, take a look at the DiselSellerz MEGA RAMRUNNER, an 8-anda-half foot tall by 8-foot-wide monster! This truck features a third-door extended cab, three sunroofs and seating for six! It’s definitely a must-see. Minnesota currently requires a blend of 10 percent biodiesel (B10) for all diesel vehicles in the summer months, increasing to B20 in 2018. The use of biodiesel on Minnesota roads is equivalent to removing roughly 202,000 vehicles each year. Biodiesel also contributed about $1.7 billion to Minnesota’s economy last year, and helps enhance the price of soybeans with an added value of 63 cents per bushel.
