On Sunday 23 April, the NAEC at Stoneleigh Park will open its doors once again to let all you passionate Landy enthusiasts experience the world’s biggest and best indoor Land Rover show, with two show halls packed full of exhibitors offering the latest and greatest products, accessories, parts and more for your Land Rover.

It’s worth noting that if you buy your tickets in advance (costing 50% less than buying your tickets on the door), you’ll gain access to the show from 9.30am, hereby allowing you to ‘jump the queue’ and get to those early bargains before that mate of yours rocks up an hour later. You snooze, you lose!

It’s not just hot Land Rover trinkets and toys that will be getting the attention once the GBLRS opens its doors.

For the first time we are opening up the 2.4-mile off-road course, marshalled by

the All-Wheel Driver Club, for you all to get your Land Rover in on the action throughout the day. Tickets for the course will cost just £10 in advance, but £15 on the day – so again, time is of the essence people.

Furthermore, the car park will again become a centrepiece at Stoneleigh and an extension of the show, with a dedicated Land Rover car parking area where drivers will be given the chance to showcase their very own Landy.

aised in County Durham and apprenticed as mechanical engineers in Tyneside, two brothers, Bill and Graham Rimmer, started out by buying, tinkering and fettling their own Triumphs.

Later, in 1982, they founded Rimmer Bros., which operated from modest buildings at the family home in Lincolnshire. Those were the days when they bought, sold, restored, serviced and provided parts for Triumph, doing all the work themselves, for they had no other staff.

The business then grew and many years later, the brothers still own the company they founded, where they now have a loyal, expert and hard-working staff of 65 people to keep the wheels turning. Expansion seems to have been continuous during that time, such that the company HQ at Bracebridge Heath, near Lincoln, now includes 105,000 sq ft of storage space, tens of thousands of stock lines, millions of parts - and now covers the Triumph, MG, Rover, Mini, Rover SD1, Land Rover, Range Rover and Jaguar (1998 onwards) ranges. For years it has been one of the ‘classic’ industry’s leading concerns, which not only offers many parts which can often not

be found anywhere else in the world, but backs this with an amazing record of technical expertise, and a reputation for high-quality service, and for highspeed response to every request.

As the British motor industry has contracted, Rimmer Bros. has grown larger, to ensure that many well-loved classic cars, now out of production and no longer supported by their original makers, can still be maintained, restored, and enjoyed. While the support for Triumph strongly continues, during the 1990s the coverage of Rover SD1 models was added, and in the 2000s Land Rover and Range Rover, to include models right up to date. From 2005, our support was extended to cover more modern MG-Rover cars. In 2012 our range was further extended to cover Jaguar models 1998 onwards.

2013 saw the completion of our new warehouse built to the rear of our existing building. It effectively doubles our storage capabilities allowing our bulk Land Rover and MG Rover stocks to be stored on one site. We have also introduced a production line conveyor system into the packing room to increase the speed of order processing and despatch.

With the company now well-es-

tablished, the parts inventory at Bracebridge Heath continues to grow, the technical and service expertise continues to match it, and the company’s strategic aim is to improve on that, even further, as space, time, and new marketing opportunities allow.

hat with an off-road course to play on, two show halls packed full of exhibitors, Land Rover-only parking... and crucially a bar, you might be forgiven for thinking that we’re spoiling you as this April’s Land Rover showpiece returns once again. But the truth is, we’ve still got more in store for you.

Alongside the off-road course

being opened up for drivers to lap round, there will also be a trials event held on the course later on in the day. Tickets for the event will be £20 per driver and you need to book in advance as space for competitors is limited. Head to the show website for more information and booking.

The autojumble will return once again only this time it has been relocated outside, firstly to make room

for all those spares and accessories, and secondly to make room for all of the exhibitors, vehicles and Landy products inside.

Usual facilities of the restaurant and bar will be available and please do remember that your furry friend (the dog) can come along for the day as well. It promises to be a corker.

aking decisions can be very difficult. It’s part of being one of those boring things... you know, being an adult.

Who really enjoys deciding on things like what mortgage is best, what to have for breakfast in the morning and so on and so forth.

The decisions don’t stop there either.

Even narrowing down your winch options for your Land Rover can be a nightmare. That is, unless you turn to Goodwinch.

They’ll give you a tissue and sympathise with your predicament, but they’ll also help you choose a winch that’s perfect for you.

So, exactly what sort of options are you looking at?

Well, Goodwinch has recently launched two new winches, both in the Goodwinch Bull range. The 9.5i SR uses a Bowmotor 1 and is fully sealed against water and muck. It comes with a blue budget bowrope and an aluminium hawse.

It’s a smart looking bit of kit with a line pull of 4309kg (9500lbs). It costs £799 plus carriage and VAT but, if you needed more, you don’t need to spend much more.

The 12.0i SR winch also features a Bowmotor 1 winch motor and is fully waterproof. But this is aimed more at recovery truck winching, up to 4 tonnes, so would be com-

The line pull is 5454kg (12,000lbs), so it’s a fair bit more powerful, yet only costs another tenner compared to the 9.5i SR. At £809 plus VAT etc it looks like a bargain, and comes with budget blue bowrope and aluminium hawse.

If you were spoilt for choice already, things are about to get even more challenging for you.

Alongside the mighty G12 twin-motor winch that Goodwinch produces, Goodwinch also makes a single-motored winch, the G10. All its winches are made to order so you can specify exactly what you need in terms of drums, bowropes and so on.

The one you see in the photos to your left has a Bowmotor 2 fitted with a mid-sized drum which

If you needed it, there is an extra large drum available, which may be called the Extra Large Drum or Ginormous Drum or something. The Bowmotor 2 works with a Bowright solenoid for long, reliable service.

What you can also see is all the elements that make this Goodwinch good, from large drum roller bearings to V-Ring seals, that make this winch both waterproof and very robust over a long period of time. Many of the items are milled from solid aluminium.

than four decades. It is thought that many of the original G10 and G12 waterproof models are still in service today. Given that they were built in the late 1990s and so are 15-20 years old, that’s quite a reassuring statistic when looking at buying one of the new winches.

TDS winches are now in their ninth year of production, making them a well-known name in the world where you need to get out of that mudhole, or climb that impossibly steep slope. Well, not you, obviously, you’re not stuck, but to help that other fella.

This low-profile winch will fit neatly into most centrally mounted bumpers on a range of Green Oval vehicles, from Defender, to Discovery 1 and 2 and Classic Range Rover. Prices start at £1499.00 + VAT, but really this is a bespoke service, so give them a call to discuss your exact requirements.

The winch shown is fitted with the optional Air Freespool Kit (£99.00). It’s recommended that you also fit the Turbo 1 Power Controller (£199), since this puts more volts into the Bowmotor for even more amazing performance.

awn and I first visited Iceland many years ago and were so impressed with the people and the country that we have returned many times. We began to run expedi-tions in 2010 and currently spend just over three months each year there either ex-ploring with clients on overland and/or photographic expeditions or just for pleas-ure.

What attracted us to return after that first visit, and on later trips venturing into the interior, was the

prospect of seeing some of the most spectacular scenery on Earth in a land that has been described as Europe’s last wilderness.

The country is truly amazing and seems to ‘have it all’, from dramatic coastlines and fjords to ice-capped mountains and majestic glaciers; from farm land around the coast to desert terrain in the interior that goes on for miles and miles - and not for-getting those volcanoes, hot springs and the aurora borealis Northern Lights.

We currently organise and lead 4x4 expeditions during July, August and early Sep-tember as well as offering the opportunity to fly-drive during the rest of the year.

Iceland is an overlanders’ and photographers’ playground and it is our aim to in-spire all those who travel with us to enjoy it as much as we do.

Land Rover Defender 6x6 HC Conversion

The Defender HC Tandem 6x6 Walking Beam (TWB) suspension upgrade consists of a tandem axle that can be quickly installed on to donor chassis, converting the rear axle into a powered tandem walking beam suspension. This conversion vastly improves the overall on and off road performance of the standard 110 Defender vehicle providing increased payload capacity by as much as one and a half times, combining increased dynamics stability and overall braking performance. The unladen weight of the 6x6 chassis cab is only 2180 kg. Fitted as standard to the vehicle is a heavy duty limited slip rear differential, with inboard vented calliper disc brakes.

n the modern world we apparently live in, running a diesel engine and a 4x4 isn’t always seen as the most social thing you could do. Look

at the way cities are now thinking of banning diesels, and the way the EU is rowing back on its championing of diesel engines. So it behoves us who love the smell of diesel in the morning to do what we can to be seen as upright citizens. At least, after our first coffee. And if all this saves us money then that’s just a happy by-product.

Diesel additives are certainly one way to go, and one such product is being brought to market by Tunit.

Tunit is a tuning company (the clue’s

Wales is calling L lanerchindda Farm is one of those places that once you’ve been for the first time, you’ll return home already planning your next visit. This serene bed and breakfast, perched upon the Car-marthenshire hillside, first entered Land Rover owners’ consciousness under the stewardship of Nick Bointon, as an ideal resting spot just outside Llandovery for green lane adventures. Since those days, the new management partnership of Martin and Lynne Hadley, plus sons Mark and Andrew, has only facilitated the farm’s rise in popularity.

The Hadley’s previous experience came at a successful hotel in the Lake

District, before acquiring the farm some ten years ago now. For a real taste of the Llanerchindda hospitality, you’ll need to do just that… taste! Should you arrive there just approaching lunchtime, you’ll be subject to Lynne and Mark’s culinary expertise. The other half of the team are Martin and Andrew, who together oversee the front of house and as with all of the Hadleys, they are more than happy to assist your stay in whichever way possible.

Annotated maps, portable sat-navs or even a local to guide you on your way, are readily available throughout your visit. You aren’t taking advice from any old family either, they’re well educated on the do’s and don’ts of green laning

in the area thanks to their involvement with GLASS and Treadlightly.

With more than enough local lanes in the surrounding area to keep you coming back again, it’s good to know Llanerchindda have plenty of accommodation options for when you finally have to stop for the day. One of the favoured choices should be the on-site cottage which is the place to be for anyone planning a group green laning holiday to the area.

The copious amount of green lanes around the farm is what makes Llanerchindda so unique. Your first visit will more than likely see you sample the traditional lanes of Soar y Mynydd and Strata Florida in order to get to grips with the Welsh landscape. However, on a second visit you can dabble in the dozens of less-trodden trails that still come with stunning sights of the countryside.
