PREFACE Thank you for watching my Portfolio. For me, architecture is the tool I used to understand the world during my undergraduate. I learned a lot of knowledge through architecture, which comes from life, society, interdisciplinary fields and so on. My portfolio includes three works, which represent my observation of life, my exploration of design ideas, and the knowledge I learned in school.

The first work is the development of my personal interest, which is about the design of the combination of psychological theory MBTI and architecture. It shows my interdisciplinary thinking.

The second job is my project in GSAPP summer program. In this project, I used a different design method from the past and designed from a new perspective, which benefited a lot.

The third work is my homework in school. About how to carry out reasonable architectural design, this project shows my discussion on the spirit of place and my thinking on a special spatial form.

MBTI & 8 FUNCTIONS 01 DORMITORY INNOVATION Site: Instructor: Type: Role: Time:

This work transforms my school dormitory. This is the place where I have lived for five years. During the five years I have lived here, I have observed my roommates and my neighbors, their use of dormitory space. Although the school dormitory is a collective accommodation space, and everyone's beds and rooms are almost the same, because of the differences of individuals and small groups in the room, the attributes of personal space and dormitory shared space are different because the people living in it are different.

During my observation, I studied MBTI and Jung's eight dimensional theory and found a certain corresponding relationship between my roommates and neighbors in personality and spatial attributes. Therefore, I transformed the dormitory in combination with MBTI and Jung's eight dimensional theory.

DOMITORY GROUP

In Chinese campuses, dormitory groups are generally concentrated in a certain area. The prototypes of these buildings come from the Khrushchev building in Russia. In order to meet the sunshine requirements and low cost, the buildings are built like replicas, and a certain distance is often controlled between the buildings. These dormitory buildings are generally between 5-floors, lacking physical changes.

The living conditions of students in the new campus are rising, so it is necessary to consider the transformation of the old school buildings and dormitories to adapt to the living standards of students.

The dormitory building consists of one unit after another with the same scale. Four beds and a space for drying clothes will be placed in one unit. Everyone's space is independent. During their stay, they may buy many homes to meet their individual needs. The walkway in the middle often has different layout according to the dormitory with different atmosphere.

Concept

In this project, MBTI and eight functions are introduced to locate and divide space and the carrier of space - students.

Due to the establishment of the new campus, the number of people in the old campus becomes less, so everyone's per capita space can be expanded, and the area becomes larger, giving play to the private space and activity space.

Different personalities often correspond to different public space use tendencies. For people with large personality tendencies, having a suitable learning and social space is conducive to their academic and mental health growth.

People with many similarities in a dormitory can resolve the contradiction in the dormitory to a certain extent.

Public Space After part of the original structure is demolished, public spaces are added. These public spaces are often given special attributes near rooms with the same temperament: the exhibition and studio are placed near Art Salondorm, the public dining space is placed at the door of Party salondorm, and the roof is connected with Idealist Salon dorm.

The number of doors in rooms on even floors is relatively small, so the location of the toilet is transformed into a public space. Single floor dormitories are mainly designed on the same floor.

The toilets on even floors are reserved, which is also the floor where the entrance of each room is located, so there are many places where the door can stay.

The public area of the study type dormitory is the study. There is no fixed bed in this room. People can study and rest in a corner according to their own needs. In this room, the space is diverse, but there is no completely closed floor, so roommates can discuss freely in this large space, but there is a space suitable for their own activities.

Party type dormitories consist of many public spaces, including corridor public space, outdoor public space and internal public space. The whole type of dormitories are divided into two parts, but they can be connected on the second floor. Therefore, the two dormitories are independent and integrated.

View From The Opposite Building When economy and practicality are no longer the pursuit of architecture in this era, the same space is no longer suitable for the living conditions of most students. Therefore, it is very necessary to transform the campus architectural space for young people.

The reconstruction of the building not only improves the students' life and makes the living space customized according to their personality, but also transforms the uniform facade of the dormitory to make the shape more diversified. The reduction of building blocks enriches the outdoor space in the building, and the placement of public space makes the indoor daylighting no longer rely only on the windows at the two ends of the corridor.

This part is about my collapes work in handshake in the summer. The project begin in my observation of my tinny found in my daily life.

I found there is some change in the window: Day time, window reflect the views of the outside world.

Night time, light can go through of indoor so people can see it.

This element then be my main characristic of intervene installation in the yard of Columbia University.

The installation then become the exhibition itself in the garden.

Online Jerrett Ley Exhibition installation Individual Work July, 2021

This work was made when I attended Columbia summer school. I tried a different way of thinking and used a different architectural language than previous projects.

The starting point of this project is to observe a tiny thing in life - Windows. I take windows as inspiration.

In my step-by-step thinking about the line of sight, I abstract the element of "observation" and develop it into space to form the basic conceptual form of my building with the role of enclosure and light.

This building is involved in the backyard space of GSAPP building and affects people's experience in this space. Its main function is to hold exhibitions.

When wonder in the yard, basic circulation is passing by or go into the building without any waiting.

The intervention strategy for the courtyard is to extend people's route, create some structures that will attract them, enable them to stay in the courtyard, and eliminate the lack of interaction between various buildings.

This step aims to join the building and the yard.

The main strategies of the yard in in two part perspectively combined with the investigation of the Handshake. One part is view. When visitors go through the yard, they can go up and down if they go through the istallation. Andwhen people in the building watch out from the window, they would see different part of the view projected n the installation. At night time and at daytime they can see different thing.

Generation

The basic element is a polygon composed of triangles and squares.

These shapes can be seamlessly connected to a face by rotating 60 degrees.

When these shapes meet square windows, they will extend other shapes.

This step aims to join the building and the yard.

At night, the reflection of the installation decreases, and the light inside the installation make it becomes a transparent object when turned on.

Isometric Drawing The device mainly grows from the four flower beds. The entrance is mainly placed at the necessary place on the circulation and connected with the window of the building.

People in the installation see the superposition of buildings and other buildings.

When they walk in the device, they pass through different shaped spaces.

They will see themselves in the device and the reflection of others in different spatial positions.

During the day, the installation will reflect the surrounding buildings and landscape. People can see more than the scenery in the courtyard in the building.

P L A N The plane form of the device adopts a nearly symmetrical form to echo the original site in form. The intervention of the device in the site is to enrich people's activity space and vision. The application of mirror turns the whole site into an exhibit that can be superimposed on the field of view to correspond to the display function.

Study complex needs to be developed in Chinese universities. For Chinese students, the traditional learning space is often the self-study room or library of the school. However, this form of space is relatively single and the activities and functions are relatively limited. When students need some compound space, it is difficult for them to find a place to carry out their activities.

With the increasing diversification of teaching channels in recent years, learning is no longer limited to classrooms and libraries, but has long evolved into an all-round experience, which needs a flexible, friendly space suitable for different forms of activities. In addition to the typical study environment, any successful learning environment must have an important part such as interaction and communication space. Therefore, a compound public building with public and social attributes needs to be developed in Chinese campuses to meet the personalized social space and learning space of contemporary students.

This project is located in Tianjin urban construction university. In order to improve students' campus life, the project mainly discusses how to meet the needs of students of different majors and purposes on the premise of preserving the continuity of space, and reintegrate the scattered functions on the campus to meet the spatial and spiritual needs of students in social, learning, activities and interests.

The site is located in the center of the campus, surrounded by scenery. The design strategy is to re synthesize the scattered functions in the campus. The design principle is to ensure the openness of the space in addition to the mixing of functions, so as to promote communication and interaction and restore the original open space as far as possible.

P L A N In order to solve the isolation problem of vertical traffic space, folded plate space is mostly used in the height difference of buildings, and functional space or viewing platform are arranged in these spaces.

Many seats are designed in the coffee bar. Students can study or socialize in the coffee bar, because the coffee bar provides white noise, which is a very focused place for discussion at the same time. In this area, the indoor and outdoor are transparent, and the activities of people on the roof can be seen. You can relax appropriately during your study.

Aerial View This picture shows the relationship between the building and the surrounding environment: in the north is the landscape lake, in the south is the dormitory group, in the East is the teaching building area, and in the west is the college student service center and canteen.

The base is located in the center of the campus and is an area with “crossing” attribute. Therefore, in the process of architectural design, we pay attention to people’s feelings when passing through the building: people can pass through the overhead part of the building, that is, the external space in the building; or follow the steps to the roof, then go through the sky garden, and then go down to the ground; or enter the architecture from the outside, cross the space inside the building, and then go out of the area.

KINGWAY BREWERY RENOVATION, RENDERING, URBANUS ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN I rendered the drawings during my internship in URBANUS architecture office. This is a transformation project. The strategy is to transform the abandoned brewery into a place for citizens to carry out literary and artistic activities. In this project, I updated some models, re fitted the materials, and analyzed and studied the demolition and construction of some reconstructed spaces.

Relationship between indoor light environment and opening and closing of sunshade components

Opening and closing division value

Number of open copies: 20 degrees Change value of light intensity: 102~115lux Through the introduction of shading components, the light intensity of the room is simulated. Through the adjustment of different shading areas at the same time, the light intensity change of the grid unit is analyzed and selected, and the reasonable opening degree is obtained through the change.

The construction moves on the slide rail in a sliding way through bolt links.

The sun visor is made of translucent material, which can block the light and transmit part of the ambient light at the same time.

This project is about the design of intelligent system, the graphic design of accessories and the research on the opening and closing degree of sunshade system in one day.
