Upcoming Student Activities By Jenna Shelton jshelton@lc.edu As Student Activities President, this writer has the exclusive on what exciting programming we are thinking up. Unfortunately due to COVID, we have had to cancel annual favorites such as Fall Fest and other on-campus events. What we have been able to provide has been focused virtually to ensure the safety of not only our students, but also our staff and faculty as well. The last couple of weeks of September leading up to an action-packed October have a few exciting activities that I am looking forward to including a Netflix Movie Night Party that starts Friday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. The link to join will be posted on the L&C Student Activities Facebook page immediately before the movie is set to begin. The movie chosen by students for this week will be announced soon.
Award-winning performer Carlos Andrés Gómez will be speaking Sept. 22 at 3: p.m. on Zoom. In celebration of National Hispanic Month, which began Tuesday, Sept. 15 and runs until Thursday, Oct. 15, L&C, in partnership with six other colleges, booked Carlos Andrés Gómez, an award-winning performer, public speaker and educator to create one of the most captivating and sought-after programs you will ever see on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 3 p.m. on Zoom. This performance engages diversity, inclusion, equality, healthy masculinity and gender equity. Carlos’s work is enhanced by best practices in diversity and education and utilizes interactive exchange, facilitated dialogue and storytelling. Those critical tools, along with spoken word poetry, humor and improv, are used to concoct a routine unlike any other. The link to join the Zoom will be posted on Blackboard as well as the L&C Student Activities Facebook page. Page 4
Tuesday, Sept. 22 is a busy day because after Carlos’ performance at 3 p.m., L&C Student Activities will be hosting a fun night of chances to win prizes playing Family Feud on Zoom. Battle your school mates at 6:30 p.m. on a link that will be posted on Blackboard and the Facebook page, and you could win your choice of a gift card or one of the awesome new L&C face masks. The link to join will be released on the day of the event.
Compete in the Sept. 22 Family Feud for your chance to win a L&C facemask. L&C is proud to announce that it will be offering free, yes you heard me correctly, FREE yoga classes on a trial basis via Zoom with a hopeful start date of Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 6 p.m. The classes will be taught by Louise M. Hamlin-Laird, a Certified Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher and Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider. The class will be called a Flow & Restore Class and will incorporate slower energetic movements, breathwork, and restorative poses with modifications to allow the class to be suitable for all levels of experience. There is a hope that this will be a great benefit to not only students, but also staff and faculty as well, as stress and tension levels are at level highs right now. Make sure you keep an eye out for next month’s upcoming events preview; October is always a month that I am most excited for! WLCA vs COVID
by Gary Chapman
As the Lewis and Clark Community College (L&C) campus is opening, one of the programs allowed in is the Radio Program. With a major part of the program revolving around talking into microphones, they, of course, had to make some changes to how WLCA runs. Here are some of the changes:
1)
Increased Sanitation
2)
Changes in Operation
One thing that everybody who comes into the studio must do is sanitize. Everybody must sanitize before and after the shift using the cleaning fluid, which you spray on a towel or a wipe. They wipe down the mixing board, computer, phone, and keyboard, etc. They also must wipe down the seat and must wear a mask when another person is in the studio.
It used to be that the songs would go through one pot (the term used to describe the place that you control the volume) and the mic is another pot. Now the board is set up so that there are three inputs, where one program goes through one, and the next thing is through the other, etc. It makes it easier to have the song already ready for your set. Also, as with many things, all classes and meetings are done through Zoom.

3)
Remote Shift
It is common in radio to do a shift from another place, usually as a promotional piece. Now, most people in the radio business are doing their shifts at home, and WLCA is no exception. The way they do it is using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) to connect into the L&C network, connect to the computer running WideOrbit, which is the program that plays and schedules the songs, use Teamspeak (to send the mic over and hear the station) and a program which tells the board how loud it should be and use that to do the shift.
And that is how WLCA is accommodating for the new guidelines. Sure, it might have its hiccups, but most people have gotten used to it, with Sports Director Ethan Hanneford saying that he “is just vibing [and] going with the flow. It does take some getting used to, but as this seems to be the new normal, we better get used to it.

L&C Student Activities Partners With ICCSAA For Virtual Programming By Jenna Shelton jshelton@lc.edu
It feels like with each day, things are changing and one is never really sure what is really going on, but Lewis and Clark Community College’s Student Activities is rolling, trying their best to keep up with it all by hosting virtual programming. L&C has had the unique opportunity to combine forces with multiple members of the Illinois Community College Student Activities Association (ICCSAA) to come up with some great and exciting fun ideas for the students for all seven of the colleges. In addition to L&C, the other colleges are Richland College, Lincoln Land Community College, Moraine Valley Community College, Morton College, Joliet Junior College and Oakton Community College. This means that L&C students will not only get the chance to have fun and win great prizes, but they will also get the chance to meet new people from all over the state of Illinois, since virtual activities may be hosted with other colleges at the same time. The collaboration with ICCSAA has decided to use Bass/Schuler Entertainment, a professional entertainment company, to hold a certain number of virtual events that all of the colleges could attend together. Bass/Schuler is an award-winning agency that represents live professional music, games, acts, comedy, speakers, novelties and similar events to colleges, festivals, and corporate markets since 1999. “Since we’ve moved to virtual programming for the safety of our students, participation has dropped. Other colleges are facing the same thing, so we decided to try to band together, share the cost of the programming, and hopefully, we’ll see student participation going up,” Jared Hennings, Student Activities Coordinator said when asked why L&C chose to partner with ICCSAA. In fact, next week one of the planned programming events include a special that could be described as improv, spoken word, poetry, humor, along with a wonderful twist in diversity and storytelling by award-winning performer Carlos Andrés Gómez Page 6
as he draws from his eclectic expertise to create one of the most creative and sought after programs one could ever see. Other virtual events currently in the works include comedians, escape rooms and even the live music of a beatboxer who makes music with only his mouth, a microphone and a pedal - he will teach students the art of beatboxing. L&C student and Student Activities member Elise Gremli said, “It’s great! It shows that different colleges support each other and even if we are all different schools, it makes you feel like one big one. Like you’re part of something bigger.” During a difficult time like COVID-19, that is all that colleges like L&C want to do—be there to support their students— whether through classes, financial aid, counseling or just some good old plain fun! Be sure to keep an eye out for upcoming Student Activities events on their Facebook page as they keep it updated often, as well as L&C’s main Facebook page. For specific questions or information, please contact Student Activities Coordinator Jared Hennings at jhenning@lc.edu or 618-468-6400. Student Activities President Jenna Shelton can be reached at jshelton@ lc.edu or messaged on the Student Activities Facebook page. Campus News

King King
Death of a King: Chadwick Boseman Caroline Hussey Contributor
Chadwick Boseman, 43, known for roles in movies such as “Black Panther”, “Marshall”, “42”, “Thurgood” and “21 Bridges”, passed away in his home among family on Aug 28, 2020, after a long four year battle with colon cancer. “It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman,” reads a statement on Boseman’s official Instagram, “Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV.” Boseman fought through the difficulty of cancer, all while giving the public several feature films. “From ‘Marshall’ to ‘Da 5 Bloods’, August Wilson’s ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ and several more — all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy,” said Boseman’s family in an official statement. What seems to be his best-known role, portraying King T’Challa, was a proud memory of Boseman’s. “It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther,” says Boseman’s family. Apart from family, friends, co-workers and fans have been all over social media, posting tributes and pictures of Boseman, including several co-stars writing emotional goodbyes. As of Sept. 15, the official statement of Boseman’s death has over 18 million posts and over 660,000 comments, most dictating how they will miss the actor. Grieving co-stars who have reached out saying their goodbyes include cast members from “21 Bridges”, “Da 5 Bloods” and “Black Panther”. Lupita Nyong’o, Boseman’s co-star who plays Nakia in “Black Panther”, released a heartfelt post dedicated to Boseman on her social media.

He was absorbent. Agile. He set the bar high by working with a generosity of spirit, creating an ego-free environment by sheer example, and he always had a warm gaze and a strong embrace to share. When I was around Chadwick, I wanted to be better, less petty, more purposeful... He was fueled by love, not fear,” stated Nyong’o in her post. “He moved quietly, deliberately, and without imposing himself or his ideals on others. And yet he also made damn sure that his life meant something. He cared so deeply about humanity, about Black people, about his people. He activated our pride. By pushing through and working with such high purpose in the films he chose to commit to, Chadwick has made the infinite his home.”

Microsoft Flight Simulator Opens the World to Old and New by Gary Chapman gchapman@lc.edu One of the longest-running franchises in gaming, surprisingly enough, is the “Microsoft Flight Simulator” franchise, with the first MFS being released in 1982, and the series being released throughout the 80s and 90s. And now, after an almost 14-year hiatus, the latest “Microsoft Flight Simulator” is finally released. The game, which is developed by Asobo Studios, who has previously developed ports for the “The Crew” 1&2 and a bunch of Disney titles, was released as the 11th major entry to the MFS franchise and is the one to be released after “Microsoft Flight Simulator X” which was released in Oct. 2006 and was re-released on Steam in Dec. 2014. There was a minor release in 2012, a free to play title titled “Microsoft Flight”, but that game was a flop and can no longer be downloaded. “Microsoft Flight Simulator” is rather system-intensive, with the game taking up around 67GB and the map data, which uses Bing Maps, is approximately 90GB. A good way of showing how big this would be is the physical release by Aerosoft in Europe, which uses 10 dual-layer DVDs just for the map data. The game also requires a lot of power, the game’s minimum requirements ask for an Intel Core i5-4460, 8GB of RAM and a Radeon RX 570. They suggest 16GB of ram and an RX 490 though, so that is a lot of power.

The game, even on “low as it goes” settings, looks simply amazing. The game renders the areas around the airports as realistically as possible thanks to Bing Maps, and the cloud to render trees, buildings, etc. The game on Ultra looks stunning.

The game controls alright, Reddit user and Pilot in training Lithominium said, “If you have a keyboard and mouse, you’re going to have a bad time, if you have an Xbox controller, it’s going to be more pleasant, if you have a joystick or HOTAS (hands-on throttle-and-stick), it’s pretty good, and if you have a full flight sim loadout, it will be great.” The game is attracting the people who like flying and the people who just want to play games, as the game’s visual fidelity is beautiful and the game naturally runs with an Xbox controller. The game retails for the normal $60, but it also has the Deluxe version for $89.99 and the Premium version for $120. The difference between the versions is more planes and hand-crafted airports.

The game looks simply beautiful, and even as someone who is not into flying planes, I still recommend the “Microsoft Flight Simulator” to all.

In the late 50s, Jamaica was developing a new sound. Grabbing influence from R&B, Caribbean folk, New Orleans jazz, and more, ska was being born. In the 60s, when many Jamaicans were immigrating to England for work, the ska sound went international. Art students and British punks latched on to the ska sound and 2-Tone took root.

Unfortunately, during the 60s and 70s, England was struggling economically and politically. As is often the case, the political divide caused distrust in immigrants and a spike in racist rhetoric (among many, many other issues). 2-Tone became a voice of anti-racism The 2020 Ska Against Racism logo and political action; integrated and album cover art was designed bands were normalized, and the by Adam Davis of Omnigone. black and white checkerboard became a symbol of racial har- In 1998, Mike Park, who runs mony through music. It is no secret that racism is still, regrettably, a big issue in the United States. That is why Mike Park and Asian Man Records, along with a number of other labels and ska/ska-punk bands, is reviving the Ska Against Racism movement. On Sept. 4, the Ska Against Racism album was released as a digital album and a double-LP set (currently sold out). The 28-track album contains songs from 28 ska and ska-punk bands ranging from the Hepcats, to Less Than Jake, to The Interrupters. The format has changed but the message is still the same: teach the roots of ska, bring awareness to racial injustices. All proceeds will go to The Movement for Black Lives, The NAACP Legal Defense Fund, The Conscious Kid, The Alpha Institute, and Black Girls Code. The album is available on BandCamp with a minimum $1 donation. A second print of the LP has not been announced at this time. Entertainment

Beauty Bakerie Beauty Bakerie eauty Baker Beauty Bakerie is Where You’ll Find Everything You Need to Get Caked! By Ashtyn Britt abritt@lc.edu
There are few pleasures I am able to enjoy as of late, but of the few I have, makeup is in the top three. There is something so delightful to me about transforming my face to reflect outside who I am on the inside, and going out into the world to showcase it. Wearing a mask and keeping social distance while doing so, of course. Anyway, last year I discovered a brand that I’ve loved since the second I laid eyes on their themed packaging, Beauty Bakerie. What makes this makeup company stand out from the others is their packaging specific to a baking theme, as well as sweet smells and even sweeter names for their products! I first obtained their Proof is in the Puddin’ eyeshadow palette in my Winter FabFitFun box and was instantly in love with the company! Then, at the beginning of the year, they had a sale including a set with their Flour Setting Powder, their Spray Your Grace Baking Setting Spray and their Blending Egg Beauty Sponges to find that those products are by far the best that I’ve used yet in their own respective areas! Then, more recently, I managed to successfully purchase one of their coveted mystery boxes for only $50 with a retail value of around $150! The mystery box contained their Milk and Honey highlighting palette, the Breakfast in Bed eyeshadow palette, two smudge-proof Lip Whips, a

Beauty Bakerie products are available both on beautybakerie.com and at Ulta.com, and I can’t tell you enough that if you like makeup then to give them a try! They’re also a supportive black-owned business that works to make their products skin-tone inclusive, cruelty-free and, if possible, vegan friendly! For those of you who enjoy good makeup with an adorable theme, I beg of you please to consider Beauty Bakerie!

HBO Max Maximizes Confusion By Alex Johnson amjohnson@lc.edu
Streaming services have officially become as confusing and frustrating as the cable packages they were intended to replace. When Netflix started streaming movies and TV shows in 2007, I thought we were finally seeing the future of content consumption. No longer would we have to buy 40 channels we did not want just to get access to one channel (or even just one show) that we did want. Now, content is just as spread out as it was in the cable-days, and “seeing everything” involves multiple, paid subscriptions. HBO seems to miss the glory days being able to sell cable packages and confuse consumers. If you are a cable cutter (is that still a phrase?), you currently have two options to get HBO: The HBO App (formerly HBO Now) or HBO Max. One offers less content, one has weird restrictions, both are $14.99/mo. If you have cable you can also get the distinctly named app, “HBO”, and log in to watch the same content as the HBO App (formerly HBO Now) without signing up for another streaming service. Make sense? HBO Max offers HBO original shows, movies on the HBO roster, Max exclusive content, content from network television channels like Cartoon Network, and more. That is a big step up from the HBO App, which only offers original shows and movies on the HBO roster. At the moment, HBO Max is not available on the Amazon Firestick, one of the more popular streaming devices and the basis for many smart TVs. Roku devices, another common basis for smart TVs, will also not be able to see HBO Max in their app stores. This is due to ongoing negotiations, with Amazon seeming to be one of the bigger hurdles. This is also why the HBO App/ HBO Now is being kept alive. Is HBO worth it at all with this confusion? The HBO App/HBO Now? No, it is not. Compared to Max it is just lacking so much, if it were less than $10, I would say yes, but not as is. HBO Max, though, just might be. HBO Max also includes all the classic and contemporary HBO originals; you will be able to find everything from “Sex and the
Product Reviews
City” to “Deadwood”, “Sopranos” to “Game of Thrones”. Getting access to HBO’s current broadcast roster is a big advantage too; there is a constant rotation of content, both old and new, to explore. Movies are clearly labeled as new and leaving soon, meaning you should not miss anything. Of course, this is the same content as the former HBO Now. A big draw of HBO Max, one that makes the $14.99 price tag hurt less, is the additional content. HBO Max includes original, exclusive content, much like its competitor Netflix. A lot of this content is stand-up specials, but there are a couple of movies and series. Max also has a couple of exclusive deals, a stand-out (and possible attempt to compete with Disney+), is DC. While DC has been leaving something to be desired with many recent films, their animation studio has put out some great content (including the “Harley Quinn” series, which is a great take on the character) and many classic DC films, like the 1989 Tim Burton “Batman”, are included with this deal. A lot of HBO Max’s “hodgepodge” content seems to have been recently pulled from other services too, notably, “Friends” (1994). Streaming rights deals change at rapid rates, but with Max scooping up shows and networks, they might be one to watch. HBO, and by extension HBO Max, has WarnerMedia at the helm, and they have a lot of content they could throw at Max to make it a success. If your favorite show has recently gone missing from your current services, look for it on Max. You might be able to ditch a couple of other subscriptions in favor of one. Of course, there is the elephant in the room: how do you watch HBO Max? If you watch all your content on a laptop, desktop, or tablet, then HBO Max is an easier sell. If you use a Firestick, there are workarounds to get Max working, but keep in mind, this is not officially supported so there may be issues. I’ll leave it up to you to decide if that is something you want to do (it is very easy if you choose this route). If your streaming device of choice does not support HBO Max, keep an eye out for it. For all the annoyances, it really does offer a lot to watch. Page 15
Remembering Lou Brock By Nathan Tucker nrtucker@lc.edu Baseball Hall of Famer and Cardinals Legend Lou Brock, who passed away on September 6, 2020 at the age of 81, will always be remembered in “Cardinals Nation”. He had over 3,000 hits, and nearly 1,000 stolen bases in his storied career, the latter number being a feat that will likely never happen again. He was known by a few nicknames for his baserunning prowess, but the “Base Burglar” and “Running Redbird” was known by teammates as one of the toughest players the game had seen. “Toughest SOB I’ve ever seen,” said former Cardinals manager Red Schoendienst, who died in 2018 at 95. “Never saw him in the training room,” said Tim McCarver, a Cardinals Hall of Famer and current Fox Sports Midwest commentator, to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Page 16
Fans, and players who might have been a bit young to actually witness Lou Brock’s greatness as it happened, might have to credit Lou for the Cardinals becoming the team they did for generations.

Sure, those Cardinals teams are obviously worse without him, but what he did on the field inspired a generation of Cardinals fans. Without his presence, perhaps “Cardinal Nation” is more of a free state.
“This included Brock playing with a broken shoulder after being hit by a pitch from Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax when the Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander had taken exception to Brock bunting on him.
Those years made Brock, Bob Gibson, Red Schoendienst and many others legends that will live for eons, long after the old Busch Stadium they played in was demolished.
“If Bob Gibson weren’t in the National League all those years, Lou would have been the toughest guy I ever saw, met on a baseball field. He and Bob were 1-2, as far as I was concerned,” McCarver said.
On Saturday, September 12, 2020, Lou Brock’s funeral procession stopped by Busch Stadium for a ceremony that celebrated both his playing accomplishments and his life as a whole.

player. He hit four of those five out of the ballpark.
Kendrick was friends with the late Buck O’Neil, a Negro Leagues legend who worked for the Chicago Cubs as a scout, and discovered a collegiate Lou Brock.
“It strikes me that a man who committed larceny 938 times [the amount of bases Brock stole in his career] is being welcomed into Heaven,” Kendrick said with a smile. “If he can steal that much, and get in Heaven, there is still hope.”
The story, originally told by O’Neil and shared on Saturday by Kendrick, was that Brock was so nervous about the tryouts at Southern that he almost left without ever stepping foot on the diamond. The one thing that gave him confidence was seeing a young boy playing in a game with the college players before his tryout. ‘If that kid can play with these guys, so can I’, and Brock made a promise to himself to give it his all. He faced five pitches in the tryout that would determine his fate as a baseball
Sports
At the end of his heartfelt remembrance, Kendrick emphasized Brock’s faith, and even left on a joke.
Lou Brock Jr. issued an emotional tribute to his father through the Post-Dispatch this past week. In that tribute he talked about the perfect marriage between his father and a baseball-crazed city. “Growing up in St. Louis as Lou Brock, Jr. was a wonderful experience.” said the younger Brock. “Everyone says St. Louis is a baseball town, and my father absolutely was a baseball guy. What is so amazing to me is how St. Louis’ love for baseball has been honored
with the likes of Jack Buck, Bob Gibson, Stan Musial and all the wonderful guys. To know my dad’s name honors the city, as well as MLB, is a gift. “To baseball fans all over the world, thank you for your love of my dad. And thank you for all the condolences. To Cardinal nation, I will tell you one indisputable fact: He loved you just as much as you loved him. I am proud to have shared my dad with you.” The Cardinals are honoring Brock in a number of ways throughout the remainder of this season, and likely years to come. The team will wear a patch with his number and signature on every uniform, and the infield dirt at Busch Stadium will have Brock’s number 20 etched beyond frequent target, second base. No matter the amount of tribute, it will never feel like enough for the man that embodied Cardinals baseball and the city of St. Louis for over half a century.

Ultimate
Ultimate Update: What’s Happening By Dillon Neibel dneibel@lc.edu
For most of us concerned with Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), the best way to follow the excitement is by focusing on the premiere organization that is the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Now, since the talent pools tend to get pretty heavily stacked, I will be breaking down my updates by division and might occasionally review the overall Pound for Pound rankings.
Heavyweights (205-265lbs):
The Heavyweight division is currently shaping up to be the most exciting it has been in years. In the most recent Pay-per-view (PPV) event UFC 252 held on Aug. 15, fans were treated with the conclusion of the trilogy between Daniel “DC” Cormier and Stipe Miocic. After both men claimed a victory over the other by knockout (KO), the score was settled after going the distance of all five rounds, and Miocic held onto his belt and solidified himself as the greatest Heavyweight in UFC history when considering the accolades of both men. DC, as promised, retired that night but will continue to grace us as commentator and analyst of the sport. Miocic is not out of the woods yet if he wishes to continue to build his legacy, as many dangerous challengers are en route to the belt. Former Light Heavyweight Champion and arguably the greatest of all time (GOAT) Jon “Bones” Jones looks to continue his undefeated career in the HeavyPage 18
weight division, having recently vacated his Light Heavyweight gold. The always dangerous Cameroonian Francis “The Predator” Ngannou has been on a violent first-round KO win streak since his loss to the current champion. Fun fact: Francis Ngannou holds the world record for the most powerful punch, which is equivalent to 96 horsepower and is equal to getting hit by a Ford Escort at top speed. That is a 2,464lb vehicle with a top speed of 110 mph. Other prominent contenders of the division include the 20+ year legend Alistair “The Demolition Man” Overeem, always entertaining Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis, striking specialist Jairzinho “Bigi Boy” Rozenstruik, wrestler Curtis “Razor” Blaydes and possibly the return of heavy-hitting Anthony “Rumble” Johnson.
Light Heavyweights (205lbs):
At one time this division was the most exciting of the sport, but then Jon Jones started his reign of terror and defeated two generations of fighters, totally clearing out the division. However, the division will have a chance to grow once again as the undefeated GOAT has vacated his belt for a move up a weight class. In September’s UFC 253, the vacant belt will be up for grabs in the Comain event, as Dominick “The DevSports

astator” Reyes looks to prove himself after coming off a highly contested loss to the former champion, against the heavy-hitting Jan “John” Blachowicz. Other up and rising contenders of the division include former title contender Thiago “Marereta” Santos, Veteran Glover Teixeira and rising star Aleksandar “Rocket” Rakic.
Middleweights (185lbs):
Headlining the main event of UFC 253 is a promising showdown between two undefeated strikers in the champion Israel “The Last Style Bender” Adesanya and Paulo “The Eraser” Costa. Champion Adesanya is a rising superstar since making his transition from kickboxing and will look to use his high-level counter striking against the forward pushing powerhouse Costa. Former champ Robert “The Reaper” Whitaker and #3 ranked contender Jared “Tha Killa Gorilla” Cannonier will face each other at UFC 254 to advance their spot in the title picture. Other hopefuls include Jack “The Joker” Hermansson, Yoel “Soldier of God” Romero, Darren “The Gorilla” Till and many others as the division is looking as promising as ever since the Anderson Silva era. O’Fallon, Ill. resident Andrew “El Dirte” Sanchez recently sported both an impressive KO and mullet in his recent UFC bout. Sports

streak and belt in a unification bout against interim champ and heavy handed Justin “The Highlight” Gaethje at UFC 254 in October. The match holds a lot of promise in a classic striker versus grappler match as Gaethje is coming off a giant upset victory over Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson.
Mega-star Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal is rumored to put on a rematch for the novelty Baddest Mother F****r (BMF) against Stockton bad boy Nate Diaz. Older brother Nick Diaz is also rumored to make his return, both being expected to happen in January.
Ferguson, up until the Gaethje fight at UFC 249, was on a decade long 12 fight win streak before the upset, and is notorious for creating some of the most bloody and violent fights in the sport’s history. Ferguson was potentially going to fight long time top contender Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier, in what would be a potential fight of the year, as both men are known as what we call a real “fighter’s fighter.” Poirier is coming off a five round victory over Dan “The Hangman” Hooker that is being talked about as the potential fight of the year.
Although a date is not yet verified, reigning champ Kamaru “The Nigerian Nightmare” Usman looks to continue his domination of this division against the terrorizing Gilbert “Durinho” Burns, in a fight that hardcore fans are looking at as a real test for the champion.
The welterweight division might truly be the most talent-stacked and exciting division in the entire promotion right now, looking down the list of all ranked and even non-ranked contenders one could see any of them being given a title shot with 1-3 wins. Former champion and Ferguson, Mo. resident Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley will soon face former interim champion Colby “Chaos” Covington.
Lightweights (155lbs):
Just as in the welterweight division, you cannot find a much thicker talent pool than what we have among the lightweights. Undefeated mega-star, champ and potential GOAT Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov will be defending his
UFC president Dana White recently said that a different fight for Ferguson is being set up since negotiations did not work with Poirier. My money’s on Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira, whose style is practically a mirror of Ferguson’s. This division continues to explode, as do many others. For now I will end this breakdown, but I will continue to work down the list of divisions in my next Ultimate Update article. Page 19
