But the full, busy days at Camp Tekakwitha did not lend themselves to the amount of planning and organization required to record a CD. Enter Father Kent O’Connor, who got the project moving from concept to reality. “Each time I visited camp, I was really impressed with the way the kids sing there,” said Father O’Connor. “They have such energy and prayerfulness, and it’s a big part of the experience kids hold onto for the rest of the year.” Leawood’s Curé of Ars parishioner Mark Fortino Camp Kateri Tekakwitha Schedule co-produced the CD with Camp Kateri Camp Tekakwitha Sr. High Father Campers entering 5th/6th grade Campers entering 9th- 12th grade in fall of 2009 only in fall 2009

It happens every year: Parents get busy and miss the all-important registration deadlines for camp. That leaves their youngsters either squeezed out of camp entirely, or at least out of the session their friends are attending. So, parents, take note. Camp registration begins on Jan. 30 for campers entering 7th through 12th grades this fall. Registration for campers entering fifth or sixth grades in the fall begins on Feb. 6. Online registration begins at 9 a.m. each of those mornings. Although the registration link will not be available until Jan. 30, parents are encouraged to log onto the site and become members well before registrations open; doing so will allow them to receive updated camp information and confirmation of their transaction via e-mail. Mail-in registrations should be postmarked no earlier than the first date of registration for the respective session. If you have questions regarding camp registration, download a Camp Registration Packet from the youth ministry Web page at: www.archkck. org, or send an e-mail to Jennifer at: jenniferarchkck@sunflower.com.

O’Connor, providing the recording equipment and microphones. The recordings were made in the course of a typical day at camp, while campers came in and out of receiving the sacrament of reconciliation. “There had to be some control for noise with kids getting up to go in and out of the confessional, but the music was recorded when they would normally be singing with the same songs that are usually sung,” said Father O’Connor. The CD features 13 tracks, including well-known praise and worship songs such as “Open The Heart of My Eyes, Lord,” “Here I Am To Worship,” and “Your Grace Is Enough.” “The CD is designed to be a singalong,” said Nearmyer. “It’s a completely raw outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
