It's time for golf! We are greening up and we have made it though another winter. We have so much going on this year for all golfers, so make sure you look at the golf booklet to keep up with all of the events. For those who have requested, we've listened and have created an all new Match Play Championship (Net Tournament) called King of the Mountain. This tournament will be held throughout the golf season so make sure you get signed up. Our junior golf program has started and you will see many juniors around the course. I am expecting some good things from our juniors this year. If you have a junior who wants to be involved with the Junior Golf Club or Junior Golf League, you still have time to sign them up. You will see some new faces in the golf shop this year. Many of you have had the chance to meet our new Assistant Golf Professionals Adam and Jordan, but we also have three interns coming in for the season. Kelsey Fallisch will be here the first week of April and will return to Florida Gulf Coast University for her finals and will be back ready to go the first week of May. Kelsey is a junior and spent last summer in Wisconsin at a very active club. She will bring a lot of energy and experience when it comes to playing and coaching juniors. Aron Walker will be here mid-May and is just finishing his freshman year at Western Kentucky University. He was a three year captain of his high school's golf team and worked at his hometown golf club in Indiana. Aron is excited to be coming to The Ledges where we will provide him with a great experience that will allow him to grow as he continues the PGM program. Last, we have Zach Dawson from North Dakota State University who has previously worked as an intern for AJGA. He was part of the team that ran our event and was impressed with our facility and program. Zach has extensive junior golf training and will be a huge asset to our operation this year. He is already in town and learning our operation. April kicks off so many events for our golf season and we are excited to get them going. Opening Day, Alcatraz Cup, Emergency Nine, Nine, Wine and Dine and Family Big Break are all happening in April. Make sure you look through this newsletter to get all of the information on these events. If you have any questions regarding these events, please don't hesitate to reach out to us in any way.
Member/Guest invitations have gone out and we hope you will sign up to play this year. Last year we had to add a flight to the tournament because of the demand, so make sure you sign up early and reserve your spot. The field will fill up quickly. You'll want to make sure you take a minute to shop in the Golf Shop before the season begins. We have all kinds of new apparel in our shop including Peter Millar, Foot-Joy, F&G and Polo RLX, just to name a few. We've also added some colors and sizes to our popular Ledges t-shirts in both long and short sleeves. With our bourbon and scotch tastings growing, we've started to carry Ledges logo etched bourbon and scotch glasses as well as beer pints with our logo. These would make great gifts, but would also be nice to have around the house too. If you've been hiding all winter and have not heard the buzz about the Callaway Epic Driver, then you need to come by the shop and set up a time to demo one. We've tested the driver with the Trackman and I've seen everyone's numbers drastically improve. This is one of those drivers that is a must-try if you are looking for more distance. The new Jail Break technology produces on average 3 MPH more club head speed APRIL 29 and about 5 MPH ball speed 3:00 P.M. which equates to 10 or 15 more yards. It's a must! $25 per Junior Golf Club family

Speaking of the Trackman, many of you have enjoyed the benefits of using the Trackman by signing up for a membership. I am exited to announce that Trackman will be adding a putting feature into the putting component. I saw it at the annual PGA Merchandise Show and it will be a strong tool for improving putting. If you have any questions about the Trackman or would like to learn more, you can reach out to our professional staff. Memberships are $500 for the year and it gives you unlimited access to the Trackman along with an hour lesson where we will show you all you need to know and how to interpret the data. I hope that after reading this, you will be excited to get out and play some golf. See you on the course.

THE BENEFITS OF USING A TRACKMAN JORDAN DEBONIS, PGA
As the golf season begins, many golfers begin thinking of ways to get their game into shape. A great way to prepare for the season is by utilizing all that the Trackman has to offer.
The Trackman will give you reliable
Everyone can benefit from looking at the numbers from the Trackman Launch Monitor, including us professionals. This device will give you a full analysis that can be broken down to help you understand everything about your golf swing.
any gaps you may have in your set. There
There are not many touring professionals who don't use this technology to improve in their game. Take Dustin Johnson, for example, the top ranked player in the world. He found that his wedges were his weak spot in the game. He bought a Trackman, spent months perfecting and getting his gapping issues taken care of and is now the best player in the world. I find the Trackman helpful during club fittings and lessons because the numbers do not lie. Having clubs that fit your golf swing is very important. The key factors we would look at is ball speed, spin rate, smash factor, launch angle and club head speed.
numbers to provide an optimal set up for your game. During these club fittings, we can also get you the accurate numbers for each of your clubs so that you can fix is equipment out there that will fit with everyone's golf swing. Teaching with the Trackman not only helps us golf professionals, but helps the student understand as well. As the student hits the golf balls, we can use the feedback that generates on our iPad, then go into full detail on why the golf ball had the flight that it did. A lot of problems that I see are club path issues not matching up with the face to path which could make for a very inconsistent ball flight. With our Trackman technology, we can get that information within seconds and provide you with drills and practice techniques to help fix the path or club face where needed. Come see your professional staff and get your swing tuned up as the season starts to kick in! Don't forget that we do offer a Trackman membership which includes a full tutorial from the professional staff. You may use it whenever you want as long as it's not loaned out already.
ON THE COURSE WITH ADAM LAIRD As spring unfolds for the new golf season, we are gearing up for an excellent 2017! We are excited for this year's events, both old and new. The master calendar is now available on The Ledges website giving detailed information on all of our events. Please take a few moments and browse through the upcoming schedule. There is also good information on how to prepare for the season. Whether it's upgrading equipment, regripping, making an effort to walk more or get into better shape, we can all afford to set a goal for something during the 2017 golf season. The warmer temperatures will enable our bodies to be looser and muscles to stretch easier, helping almost all golfers with mobility and rotation. These two keys can increase distance, promote better balance throughout the golf swing, as well as take away a few of those aches. Better mobility and rotation can also increase stamina during the round allowing us to be more focused later as we come down from the home stretch. Here's a great drill that will increase shoulder turn and mobility to get everyone a few extra yards.
KING OF THE MOU N TA I N
1. Take a club across the shoulders and rotate just the upper body. 2. The lower body should stay very stable. 3. Do not sway or bend the lower body during the drill.
Match Play Championship April 1- July 31, 2017 Entry Fee: $50 per player
Keep in mind as we move forward that our Junior Golf Club and PGA Junior League are both great golf programs for junior golfers. We will continue to grow and develop our program to be the best product offered. Please stop by the Golf Shop to get more information and a signup form.

PGA Junior League Golf is a fun, social and inclusive opportunity for boys and girls, between the ages of 7 and 13, to learn and enjoy the game of golf from PGA and LPGA Professionals. COURSE UPDATE F R O M
D I R E CTO R O F AGRO N O M Y J IM H OW E LL
The agronomy team has accomplished many of our goals during the so called "off season." For the most part, the weather has cooperated allowing us to complete our projects. The largest project we've completed is the Bermuda grass removal in number 10 fairway. The good stand of the Bermuda removed was installed in several areas of the rough and along paths to improve the course's visual appearance and playing conditions. The crew will continue Bermuda removal on 18, followed by 7 and 8 fairways. Our goal is to have this program completed by May 1 which will allow adequate grow-in time. I am very excited to announce that we've recently hired a full time Horticulturist. Sloan Finnerty accepted the position and began work on March 1. Sloan has many years of experience in the landscape business along with a degree in Forestry from Auburn University. He will begin by improving the aesthetics around the club, fitness center and golf course. As the golf season begins, you will see many improvements to our landscape and grounds. The new Lynx irrigation control system is scheduled to be fully operational by April 1. All 22 of the satellites were installed and the grounding plates were added to increase protection from lightening strikes during the season. This improvement was much needed to the water system and we are looking forward to having much more control of the water that we apply to the course. Earlier this year I had the opportunity to attend my first Golf Industry conference and was able to spend several hours training with the Lynx technicians. I was very impressed with the system and the future of this irrigation control program. Please contact me if you have any questions. Enjoy the golf season!

OLIVER HOROVITZ A Taste Of Scotland Wednesday, May 3, 6:30 p.m. $25++ per person or $35++ per couple $20 for Scotch Tasting Oliver "Ollie" Horovitz is a writer, filmmaker and caddie on the Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland. He has written feature articles for Sports Illustrated, Golf World, Golf Week and Golf Digest and in 2007, he wrote and produced a documentary called The Caddies of St. Andrews. In the middle of Oliver's high school graduation ceremony, his cell phone rang: it was Harvard. He'd been accepted, but he couldn't start until the following year. A caddie since he was twelve and a golfer sporting a 1.8 handicap, Ollie decided to spend his gap year at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland - home of the famed Old Course. After school finished, Ollie wasn't ready to leave paradise quite yet. He decided to remain in St. Andrews for the summer and work as a caddie on the Old Course. And so began a 10-year adventure that would change Horovitz's life in unexpected ways. Join us on Wednesday, May 3, as Ollie will bring you behind the scenes at St. Andrews - giving you his best caddie stories, plus insider-advice for planning Scotland golf trips, and a fun slideshow...all combined with a Scotch tasting! The Scotch Tasting is optional and will include four different single malts for $20. A book signing will follow the lecture.
MARTINIS AND MANUSCRIPTS BOOK CLUB On April 20th Kathryn Miller will cover the true-life story of an unbelievable journey starting with a five-year-old child in a village in central India, who gets lost and finds himself transported to Calcutta, some 1800 kms away. Young Saroo, all of five, penniless and illiterate, does not even know the name of his village and knows little else about where he was from. He gets off at a bustling, crowded train station and survives six weeks in the intimidating bad and mean streets of Calcutta. He ends up at a benevolent orphanage where he is pronounced 'lost' and is adopted by Sue and John Brierley, a young couple from Tasmania, Australia. Despite his gratitude for his adoptive parents, Saroo always wondered about his origins. Eventually, with the advent of Google Earth, the internet and Facebook he had the opportunity to look for the needle in a haystack he once called home. With a lot of perseverance and no small amount of luck, he accomplished his search. It is a wonderful real-life tale of hope and the human spirit. The memoir, A Long Way Home, became the #1 international bestseller. Now it’s Lion, a major motion picture, which received six Oscar nominations. May’s book, A Man in Moscow, by Amor Towles, transports us to The Metropol, the famed Moscow hotel across the street from the Kremlin where movie stars and Russian royalty hobnob, where Bolsheviks plot revolutions and intellectuals discuss the merits of contemporary Russian writers, where spies spy, thieves thieve and the danger of twentieth century Russia lurks outside its marbled walls. Sally Upchurch will review this tale which starts In 1922 when Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery. And, intrigue … with sparkling threads and tokens: special keys, secret compartments, gold coins, vials of coveted liquid, old-fashioned pistols, duels and scars, hidden assignations, stolen passports, a ruby necklace, mysterious letters on elegant hotel stationery…great mystery and excitement. You have got to read this to see what’s in it! If you are a Ledges member interested in joining the Martinis and Manuscripts book club, please contact Bob Westerfeldt at 256-534-1269 or rwesterfeldt1@comcast.net.
