With the weather being so nice, we are all spending much more time in our gardens, possibly noticing how many odd jobs there are that need doing outside. Daveâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s top tips Drilling holes in ceramic tiles Ok , so you have just tiled your bathroom and need to fit a few items to the wall such as a towel rail. But those tiles seem so hard and slippery, what is the best way to drill a hole? The first thing you need to do is mark out where the hole needs to be and apply some masking tape to said mark. This will help prevent the drill from slipping around on the tiles surface. Next fit a masonry bit of correct size into your drill and set the hammer action of the drill to OFF. Align the drill with your mark and slowly start to apply pressure with the drill running fairly slowly. This should give you a slight indentation on the tile as the drill cuts in. Gradually increase the speed but being careful not to overheat the drill bit and not applying too much pressure. Gradually the drill will pass through the tile and you can then apply the hammer action to drill through the actual wall.
