Dave’s top tips Choosing a new basin unit When selecting a new basin, give consideration to the special requirements as well as the plumbing. Try standing in front of the proposed position. You can cut a piece of cardboard roughly to size and hold it in front of you. Is there enough room for you to wash? Is there enough room for the door to open and close without having to do a jig to get in or out of the room? The type of basin you choose will depend on personal preference, but also needs to be functional as well. There are a huge number of styles available: Pedestal, Wall hung, Recessed and Corner. You will also have a decision to make on the style and type of taps to buy. Be sure to buy those which work with the basin. For example, some basins have two holes for individual hot and cold taps. Others have a single hole for a mixer tap. The waste for the basin is usually supplied as part of the kit. Be sure to check out our website at www.dstevens999.co.uk for more top tips along with some great video tutorials to help you with your DIY skills Regards Dave Stevens. If in doubt call me (see main advert for number) and I will do the investigating for you. Disclaimer. All advice above is given in goodwill with many years experience. We cannot guarantee however that your problems will be rectified so please, if in doubt call us before undertaking any works yourself.

Gardening Tips for June from Gardening Delight..
23
Flowers, Tubs and Borders Continue to plant out summer bedding, plant up hanging baskets and tubs. Remember to rake a good quality general fertilizer such as blood fish and bone into the borders before planting. In tubs and baskets use a good quality compost containing water storage granules and a slow release fertilizer. If the weather warms up you will need to water more often. Always water either first thing in the morning or in the evening when the sun is not so bright ensuring all the water goes to the plants and is not wasted. As we move into the month you should start to feed containers and baskets once every 10 days or so, use a liquid fertilizer as per the instructions on the packet, this will go straight to the plants and help produce a wonder summer display. In the borders to prune back those spring flowering shrubs this prevents them becoming over crowded and will keep the bushes compact and encourage new growth for flowering next spring.
Lawns The grass should be growing well and will need mowing more regularly, dropping the blades of the mower to give a nice neat cut but not too low in case we get a very dry spell, the grass will deal with the dry weather if its cut to a medium height rather than too short. It’s not too late to use a granular feed and weed which will boost the lawn and help reduce the weed growth but make sure the brand you use is suitable for use during the summer months.
Fruit and Vegetables Potatoes will now need earthing up, this means bringing the soil up around the new shoots as they come out of the ground, this helps prevent the tubers going green if they become exposed to the light and increases the crop. Water well if the weather gets dry. Thin out seedlings of beetroot, carrots etc..This allows the remaining plants to grow on to full size. Carrots are best thinned in the evening when they are less likely to attract carrot fly. Beetroot ‘thinnings’ can be used in salads to add an extra flavour.. Put straw or matting under strawberries to protect the crop from slugs. Tie out and separate any new canes from Raspberries and Blackberries these will carry next years fruit. Check out our web site for our tip of the day.. www.gardendelight.co.uk Disclaimer – these tips are the result of many years experience in gardening however no guarantees can be given. Remember there are principles to successful gardening but no formulas. Please mention The Hucclecote-Link when responding to adverts

LOCAL GROUP HELPS GLOUCESTER PARENTS FIND FRIENDSHIP NCT Gloucester branch is holding a regular ‘Bumps and Babies’ group for new and expectant mums and dads, whether it’s their first, second or fifth baby! The group runs every Tuesday, 10:30 am to 12:00 at Salvation Army Hall, Gloucester and all parents are welcome you do not have to be an NCT member to join our Bumps and Babies group. Set up by parent charity NCT, Bumps and Babies groups provide relaxed and informal get-togethers, in community venues with enough room for buggies, babies and a close circle of parents. It is a great place for parents and parents-to-be to make new friends, share tips and chat with those going through the same things. ‘What mood are you in?’ For my birthday last year I was given a little desk calendar that includes various cards describing your mood of the day ranging from ‘addled’ and ‘hunk-dory’ through to ‘wonky’. Each day I am able to inform (or warn) people approaching what mood I may be in. Sometimes we find ourselves experiencing a variety of moods and emotions, some in our control and others as a reaction to the people we meet and the things we experience. Recently I was challenged in my own life to approach God whatever my mood. There are days when it is harder to pray or harder to spend time alone with God. There are times when lively worship songs and hymns are just perfect and others when silence is all that is desired.Whatever your mood and whatever situations you are faced with you are very welcome to come and join us in worship and fellowship. We meet each Sunday at 8.45am for a traditional service and at 10.30am for a more modern and noisy time together. We would love to meet you and you are welcome whatever mood you are in! Hucclecote Scout Group May Day camp went well and though a little cold at night the sun shine through the weekend more than made up for it. Between May Day and Summer camp always seems to be an extra busy period in Scouting, starting with doing a pioneer bridge at the Brownies event at Dinglewell school. Then to celebrate the Queens Jubilee we are having a special evening to events ending up with food, I hope it will be dry. A trip to Painswick Beacon is always popular, as is our Midsummer madness evening when everyone dresses up and gets wet at the end of the evening. Summer camp near Newquay is well in hand with activities at an activity site and a visit to the Lands End experience all booked, we still have 2 places left in the mini bus for any late comers. The main event after that is the 36th Father and Sons/daughters cam on the weekend of 20th September. Open to all Beavers, Cubs and Scouts with their Dads (or mums), a great weekend of activities at Cranham, cooking in patrols of 12 over open fires. With 140 on camp many have been coming since their boys/girls were in Beavers and are now in the Scouts. Notices out at the end of June to be in by 12th July at the latest. Please phone Terry on 521664 if you have children interested in joining us.
Hucclecote Horticultural Society I am writing this on May Day Bank Holiday Monday, after a very successful few hours helping to man our table at the Methodist Church plant sale. It is a date in the calendar to remember – the number and range of plants is enormous – put it in your diary for next year – we are anticipating being there again to sell plants for the society. Our next meeting is on 27th June when Dave Cropp talks to us and whose topic is a subject that we are all having to come to terms with – just think of last summer and this spring – Defensive gardening in a time of climate change. With our water butts redundant last year, and so far this year a mainly dry but very cold few months, I am sure that he will have some good advice to offer. The July meeting on Thursday 25th is one to test our knowledge - or lack of it in my case – when Rene Geissler is going to test our horticultural credentials with a quiz. As someone who only knows one Latin name for plants [the one for snowdrops] this promises to be something of a challenge.Woe betide anyone on the same team as myself. Our trip to Birmingham Botanical Gardens will take place on Saturday 29th June, when all being well there will be plenty for us to see and to learn about, with a visit to Webbs of Wychbold on the way home. If you are interested, we do offer any vacant seats to nonmembers, so contact me for details. All meetings are at the Hucclecote Community Centre, and start at 7.30 pm with refreshments from 7.15 pm. All are welcome: attendance and membership are not restricted to Hucclecote residents. More information from Chris on 610694. To advertise call 01452 617040

In May we were treated to a yoga introduction given by Krista Woodman who runs small classes locally. She demonstrated some ‘partner yoga’ moves which members and visitors then tried, it was a huge success and we all had a great time, it’s a fun form of yoga and is a great way to stretch and unwind. June’s meeting will be a talk on increasing breast cancer awareness and will cover how to check for breast cancer. This was a popular suggestion for a meeting topic amongst members and guests and we look forward to learning more from our speaker. Due to popular demand the Hearts & Hurricanes WI have now created a craft club and a book club. Please have a look on our Facebook page or visit our website www.heartsandhurricaneswi.weebly.com for more information or contact Tara Davidson on 07948 966 957. New members are more than welcome. We meet on the second Wednesday of every month at Coopers Edge School at 7:30pm. Entry is free for members and £3.00 for non-members.
Hucclecote Townswomen Guild . The speaker at the April meeting of Hucclecote T.G was changed from previously advertised as Mr Nicholas Clark was unable to give his talk “ The Road to Samarkand” and again Saintbridge TG came to our rescue, as Mrs June Davis, showed us slides and told us about her trips to the Annapurna Region of Nepal, when she became interested in helping the children there to access education and so help the country to progress. At the moment, children don’t have to go to school, and those that do attend school only need to go to age 10years, the facilities at the schools are poor, limited numbers of toilets, no play areas etc. however, Saga Charitable Trust are helping to improve the amenities at the schools, especially those in remote areas, and also the orphanages, eventually providing new buildings to house the children. June sponsors four children to school, as well as sponsoring a school in very remote area, and went to help in one of the orphanages for a while, which had 35 children with 5 members of staff presently in a rented cramped building, with poor toilet and play areas, but happy smiling children, and very tender care given to poorly, babies and children. The children stay at the orphanages until they get work, go to school or are adopted, but U.K and U.S.A do not allow adoptions from Nepal. June also did a bit of sightseeing in Nepal and showed us slides of the colourful prayer flags fluttering everywhere, Hindu temples, green fertile fields, street markets etc. we all enjoyed a very enlightening talk. April saw the Ramblers Group have an enjoyable 5 day holiday staying in Swanage , Dorseta different walk each day around that area , especially as the weather was kinder than it has been recently! next meeting of Hucclecote TG will be on Thursday 20th. June at Hucclecote Community Centre at 7-30pm, when our Speaker will be Mrs. Susan Marshfield ,an old friend of HTG, when she will talk about “Being in the Right Place at the Right Time”, we look forward to a hilarious evening All members visitors are welcome.
