Dave’s top tips Crack repairs in paths. Mending cracks in concrete paths, patios, drives, walls and floors has long been a problem for both the builder and the DIY enthusiast. New concrete in a crack is completely useless unless the crack can be widened into something that will allow a decent amount of concrete to be placed in it. Its no good trying to fill a 5mm crack with concrete comprised of 10mm aggregate! Now however as things have moved on in the building industry a jointing compound is available and is suitable for drives, paths etc which will fill cracks from 5mm wide to 40mm wide and harden to a permanent finish which can even be power washed. This compound can be bought at many builders’ merchants and DIY stores. For an even stronger more hardwearing crack filler for drives and paths an epoxy resin compound is available which sets harder than the actual concrete itself! Epoxy resin pigments may also be added if you have something a little more exotic than standard concrete or need to match a colour. Be sure to check out our website at www.dstevens999.co.uk for more top tips along with some great video tutorials to help you with your DIY skills

Regards Dave Stevens. If in doubt call me (see main advert for number) and I will do the investigating for you. Disclaimer. All advice above is given in goodwill with many years experience. We cannot guarantee however that your problems will be rectified so please, if in doubt call us before undertaking any works yourself.

HYPNOTHERAPY AND COUNSELLING.

*******************************************************

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. How many times have we all said that? Hindsight regretfully cannot be changed once we have done or said something, but we can learn by mistakes or wrong decisions, and prevent ourselves from repeating the same thing in the future. Examples of these of course, are carrying out something that causes us to look back with regret, or splashing out on an expensive item, only to find it didn't work or let us down, when our partner has washed their hands of it, but we went ahead anyway, or perhaps trusting someone who lets us down when everyone else told us not to. And losing trust in someone can hurt. Sometimes people are attracted to one type of person....often the wrong type of person....and so we repeat a relationship with the next unsuitable person....yet again as our friends might warn us. There is a saying isn't there? Making a mistake once is perhaps acceptable, making the same mistake again is foolish, making it a third time is unforgivable. And sometimes it becomes a habit. If you feel you are repeating past mistakes, whether it be in your relationships, or with work colleagues, or in any other situation, then a short course of Life Change sessions with me at the address below, can help to break that repetitive behaviour, and in so doing, it will take you forward into a more acceptable future. Why wait? Ring me and together we can find your own way forward so you can finally say hindsight was a wonderful thing but now that stays in the past! Hucclecote Scout News

With the good weather we all had over the May Day weekend the Scout Camp at the Glasshouse was a great success with 40 in camp many of them new Scouts from Cubs, all enjoyed the many activities and cooking on open fires. All had to be woken up on the Sunday morning as a result of the usual early morning start after not much sleep on the first night. Plans for the Summer camps in Yorkshire are now well ahead. With fine weather forecast for the weekend I am sure everyone will enjoy going over the Scout Pioneer bridge at the Guide and Brownie event at Dinglewell School this Saturday. With summer here (we hope) all the Scout meetings are activities outside with cooking, stream activities and other projects each Friday. We are doing climbing, windsurfing and kayaking as an extra activity before we break up for the summer. We could do with a volunteer to come along each week to help out, you do not have to have been in the Scouts before, open ladies as well as gentlemen. Phone Terry on 521664 if you would like more information or have any children who are interested in joining the group.

Hucclecote Horticultural Society The Highnam Court visit has come and gone – as I write this we all have our fingers crossed that the forecasters predicting a heatwave prevail over those who are predicting a battering by yet more rain. Still, it would save getting out the hosepipe, which in itself is a blessing. Our next meeting is on Thursday 26th June and is one of the highlights of this year - we are to be entertained once again by Chris Evans from Dundry Nurseries. Chris has been honoured recently – he was awarded the British Empire Medal - for all his hard work setting up and running the Butterfly Garden. This helps mainly younger people with disabilities to ‘get their hands dirty’ and build up their abilities and their confidence working in the garden. Chris is a most entertaining and amusing speaker and we are looking forward to hearing more of his anecdotes about both the nurseries and the garden. Very strongly recommended for visitors! We follow that on Thursday July 24th when we have another local topic ‘The History of Barnwood House’ courtesy of Brian McBernie. Again, this should be a fascinating evening, with no doubt plenty of reminiscences from those who will remember the house when it was in its heyday as a large hospital. My potatoes are now showing and mounded up – runner beans ready to go in – tomatoes managing to survive the usual slug onslaught after each shower of rain – more updates anon. Our excursion this year is to the Savill Garden at Windsor Great Park on Saturday 21st June. Some seats are available still – please contact me, Chris, for details if you are interested. Why not join us one evening and find out more about us. All meetings are at the Hucclecote Community Centre, with refreshments from 7.15 pm for a 7.30 start. All welcome, no need To advertise call 01452 890242 to be an expert. More information from Chris on 610694.

‘Tell me your story’

29

A few months ago I was reading about an initiative where a church leader set up a sofa in the town square with a sign that said 'tell me your story'. Over the course of a week had numerous encounters with people who sat down and told him their story. There were stories of pain and success, brokenness and beauty, triumph and disaster. I wonder when you last told someone your story? As a local church leader I hear people’s stories of love and romance when they come to be married in church and I have the enormous privilege of hearing and telling a personal life story when I lead a funeral service. People are fascinating, amazing, amusing, bemusing and plain confusing but each story is unique and more often than not filled with success and mistake, pleasure and regret. In the Bible we see Psalm 139 and its wonderful telling of the God who made us, loves us and holds us in the palm of his hand. This is our loving God who sees through our imperfection to the purity of our heart and mind. His desire is to be known and found by us, his desire is for loving friendship with us. I offer you the invitation to come and share your story and to meet with other people searching for God. Rev’d Andrew Axon, St Philip and St James Church, Larkhay Road’

Hucclecote Townswomen Guild Our May meeting held at Hucclecote Community Centre was well attended and we welcomed five new members three of which came from the newly closed Barnwood Guild. Our events for the coming year were announced and included a Tombola Stall at the Hucclecote Show, Car Park Duty, Arts & Craft Day in August and an Inter Guild Skittles match. This year we have decided to have a Christmas Lunch instead of our usual New Years Dinner so this has been booked for November at Hatherley Manor. Our Speaker for the evening was Di Alexander who gave us a very interesting talk entitled "The Mitford Sisters" She said that you could not make this story up and how true this was. There were six sisters and one brother and out of the sisters four became published Authors. They were raised in what would be called genteel poverty I will mention just two of the sisters, Diana and Unity. They both scandalised the family, Diana by becoming Sir Oswald Mosley's lover later to marry in the dining room in Gerbil's home and Unity by her friendship with Adolf Hitler. When war was declared on Germany both Mosley and Diana were interned and Unity shot herself in the head only to survive but was never the same. Such an interesting story too long to relate here so do look them up on the Internet or better still read the newly published book by Di Alexander entitled "The Other Mitford" Pamela's Story Do come along and join us we meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month at HHC at 7.30pm where our June talk is entitled "Cotswold Canals Trust"
