Volunteers Needed as Gloucestershire County Council give Funding to SkillZONE SkillZONE is urging more volunteers to come forward to take safety tours for young people at its Gloucester based Interactive Safety Education Centre. School visit numbers are on the increase after funding has been granted by Gloucestershire County Council to offer free visits to all children aged between 7 and 14years at school in Gloucestershire. SkillZONE is an interactive life size safety village made up of a street scene where young people learn to be safe in various situations such as hazards in the home, stranger danger online, difficulty in water and road safety. SkillZONE needs more volunteer guides to take groups around the village on a 2 hour tour, they encourage visitors to identify dangers and come up with ways to avoid risk and to learn to stay safe for life. Madeleine Jarrett SkillZONE Volunteer Manager, has been with the centre since April 2019. She says; “Just knowing that we are making children happy and safe is why we all work together to achieve this. Seeing children learn new skills to keep them safe for life is a boost to our volunteers and the children have an education they will never forget. I have worked in Volunteer management for many years but this is totally different and a very unique Volunteering Role with many of our dedicated Volunteers being with SkillZONE since we opened 6years ago. I am extremely proud to say I work for Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue and would urge anyone thinking of Volunteering to make contact with us� Volunteers come from all walks of life and just need to give a minimum of two days per month. Along with on- the- job training volunteers are offered courses in; safeguarding, first aid, health and safety and equality and diversity. SkillZONE also gives job references and pays for mileage.
